editor s welcome It’s here...the build-up to Christmas has officially started and the race is on to go Christmas shopping crazy, especially with thousands of gifts being slashed in price by as much as 70%. With ‘Black Friday’ known as the biggest day on the American calendar for Christmas shopping, this year, more then ever, it has made its way into the UK to kick-start the pre-festive rush. Serious Yuletide shoppers will have the opportunity to grab some great bargains on the day, but with a number of stores carrying on with huge discounts during December, they will be able to shop until Santa arrives! Also, with such great savings to be made, this will no
34
doubt, get shoppers in the festive mood to spend and bag some bargain Christmas pressies. Meanwhile, it’s been reported that many retailers are now implementing a multi-channel approach that includes the tracking of customers with their Smartphone signals in a bid to learn more about their shopping behaviour, as well as other strategies. However, according to Dan Wagner, Retail technology entrepreneur and CEO of Powa Technologies, says: “It’s time for High Street retailers to step up to the plate. Retailers appear to have lost their nerve earlier than ever this year, with price cuts starting in earnest in what is their prime trading season.”
8
Dan adds: “Online purchases are expected to smash all records this Christmas period, and the high street needs to be more focussed in its fight back than simply implementing a strategy of aggressive discounting.” In the last issue of 2013, we have two great features - Desk to Dance Floor - changing your look from daytime office to night time party goer, which I presume many will be doing this month, and Beauty Gadgets - ideal gifts for Christmas and New Year resolutions! Not forgetting our regular articles: Net Scent; Spa News and Beauty Related. Finally, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the esprit team, for all their hard

afternoon with other women, where we could relax, throw off our wigs and be pampered. The beauticians were kind and knowledgeable about the problems we were facing and gave great tips about dealing with the effects of treatment, such as dry skin, redness, spots, losing eyebrows and eyelashes. I am really grateful to the charity and to the companies which supplied the cosmetic gifts and staff to help women at this gruelling time.” To celebrate this new partnership, every Bannatyne’s Health Club in the UK will be promoting LGFB Kiss Pins to their members in return for a donation and there will be a pre-Christmas raffle, which will help to raise awareness of the LGFB Programme, as well as funds. Already a number of clubs have got behind the new partnership hosting their own themed fundraising events. Together with selected Bannatyne Clubs playing host to LGFB Masterclasses, we believe this partnership will be of great help in enabling us to achieve our reach to more women and teenagers needing our support whilst being treated for their cancer.” So, it’s a busy and thrilling December for the beauty industry’s charity and a perfect curtain-raiser for the exciting opportunities and events set to take place in 2014...
