editor’s welcome Welcome! First of all, Congratulations to all of those who were presented with a winning award at last month’s Copra Beauty Awards and the Fragrance Foundation Awards. Well done! We will have coverage on both of these events in the July issue.

24

Secondly, big special Congratulations to Linda Key, CEO of The Fragrance Foundation UK, who was awarded this year’s Gordon Whitehead Award at the Copra Lunch. An accolade presented to an outstanding individual who Copra feels has made an extra special contribution to the retail beauty industry. Furthermore, in this month’s issue, we have included a Supplements feature on how effective they are and what are the benefits we should expect from taking them. Our second feature is Festival Fragrances - matching up the ideal fragrance for the outdoor events during the summer season.

21

26

Also, not forgetting the informative columns we feature from our talented regular writers - Persolaise - who, this month, shares his interview with IFF Perfumer, Jean-Christophe Herault, and Kathryn Danzey, who provides advice on the best supplements to keep skin looking youthful. And of course, our regular News sections: News, and Spa and Beauty News, detailing who, what, when and where...as well as Beauty Related, featuring new product launches. Finally, esprit’s Communications Manager, Maria Tatchely, is challenging herself, again, by taking part in the Welsh Three Peaks, which involves climbing the three tallest mountains in Wales, within 12 hours! To help her raise funds for the Saint David’s Hospice, I have taken the liberty of including the link where you can sponsor Maria for such a worthy cause, taking place on Saturday, 24th June, 2017. Just go to: www.justgiving.com/funraising/ManicPeakReachers any donation will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Enjoy the read!

basil. Here the floral heart is safely Every summer in the GLASTONBURY ensconced within a forest-like shady dell of Artemisia and oakmoss, a UK we’re blessed 21 - 23 JUNE path of blackcurrant buds beneath The mother of all music festivals, with a veritable Glastonbury’s gone from hippies in a frenzy of festivals fug of patchouli (among other things) to our version and national sporting of California’s Coachella - it’s events to fill our all designer wellies caked socials calendars in mud and - seemingly within blinged-out hotpants worn with mere days of Instagram-able floral crowns, packing away our the fir trees. Clinking glasses of Champagne, 100ml EdP Ah, but seasoned ‘seasongoers’ will have one eye on their rapidly filling social calendars and another on the weather reports predicting watery doom; and so my advice is to always pack sunblock and an umbrella (we’ve experienced the vagaries of British weather before, right?) and taking this opportunity to advise the ‘season-goers’ about stocking up on these scintillating scents to make sure at least one of their senses feels properly summery… 22

HAMPTON COURT PALACE FLOWER SHOW 4 - 9 JULY

Now you could go for an all-out floral bouquet, but besides being rather obvious, you’ll be fighting with the heady aroma of several billion blooms and we don’t want you to come over all peculiar. Go for sublimely sun-kissed notes of rose and ylang-ylang garlanded with swags of cypress entwined with

quaffing strawberries and watching crowds get utterly drenched on Henman Hill is a quintessential part of British summertime. Get in there first by dousing yourself with lusciously cool unisex notes of freshly cut grass, juicy wild strawberries sprinkled with clementine zest and dewy cypress. The heart gets

cardamom for a tingle of spice. Crisply herbaceous the whole way through, the base notes of cherry wood, leather and brandy wrap everything in a soft rug of comfort. Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling, £98 for 50ml EdT

ROYAL ASCOT 20 - 24 JUNE

CAMP BESTIVAL 27 - 30 JULY

The horseracing event guaranteed to attract visitors who’ve never

seen inside a stable, Ascot has perhaps become best known for the outlandish hats and somewhat unfortunate outfits of Ladies Day. But there’s ways of keeping in touch with the saddles and blankets authenticity of the event while remaining contemporary and chic step forward this beautiful blend of two notes integral to the heritage of Hermès: leather and rose. Perfectly balanced with piquant quince and fuzzy saffron, it’s grown-up fruity fun. Galop d’Hermès, £183 for 50ml EdP

Striped blazers, straw boaters, and the slightly boozy buzz of terribly nice chaps following Ratty’s advice and “messing about in boats”. Might I suggest going full-English and reaching for the gin in scent form, too? Here the bracing freshness of juniper is complemented by aromatic angelica and pepped up with peppercorns, cinnamon and

A festival “…aimed at families with young children” is enough to strike fear in the bravest of souls, and while friends assure me it’s “ever such fun” they all return looking as though they’ve completed a tour of Vietnam. Stave off an emotional meltdown with the crisply cool fragrant equivalent of a deftlyapplied ice-pack. Gently handled mint (no hint of mouthwash!) swoons into a cloud of fluffy mimosa, Mojito-esque lime swirled with iced berries and a mineral tang of freshness as welcome as that sudden summer shower halting an horrific puppet show. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Celestia, £130 for 70ml EdT

READING FESTIVAL 24 - 27 AUGUST

Nirvana headlined a legendary Reading Festival in '92 at the very peak of their fame, though a fragrance inspired by the sheer force of creativity in the 'grunge' movement may not seem an obvious crowd-pleaser. And yet the crisp fragility of apple, blackcurrant and weirdly familiar (yet slightly discordant) pimento, sinks at last to a comfort blanket of suede, tobacco, and resinous frankincense,

as almond-like notes of tonka bean kick in for a final flourish. Highly distinctive, strangely addictive, you'll certainly stand out from the crowd. Jusbox Black Powder £130 for 75ml EdP

NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL 27 -28 AUGUST

When in Rome (well, Notting Hill), it’s got to be rum, right? Intriguingly infused with gardenia and passion fruit, there’s a definite cocktailsipping insouciant vibe to this – a feeling that intensifies as a milky swirl of vanilla is added to the mix and the creaminess of tonka beans jiggle beguilingly. To be worn by those not afraid to shake their stuff until the sun sets, although the advertising campaign may have carried slogans such as “are you

on the list?” and “this is a private party”, I think this one deserves to be shared with everyone. Carolina Herrera 212 VIP for Her, £40 for 30ml EdP

No matter what the occasion, there’s bound to be a fragrance to match the mood (and defy the weather!) With various scientific studies showing that 65% of people can accurately recall smells for over a year after they experienced them, perhaps we should get in to the habit of accessorising our summer season-going outfits with that final finishing touch: a fragrance that will forever capture the memory, a scented snapshot of their social calendar, to treasure forever. 23

Stella Radiance

Drawing inspiration from the power of the night and the magnetic attraction of the cosmos, Issey Miyake introduces Nuit D’Issey Blue Astral, a masculine fragrance revealing a new olfactory dimension, a scented nebula of vibrant notes. Light and dark, cool and warm, sensuous and explosive, the exhilarating radiance of Nuit D’Issey Bleu Astral plays on the attraction

of opposites. Opening with sparkling fizzy lime and crisp Russian coriander, the scent’s deep sensuous leather core is wrapped in a base of vibrant ambery woods and vetiver. Crafted to reflect the mysterious glow of a starlit night, blending shadow and light, the blue, black transparent bottle is etched with fine delicate streaks, evoking the path of stars. Nuit D’Issey Bleu Astral EdT 75ml, £42.00 and 125ml, £60.00 is now available nationwide.

Black Rose addition Sisley has added to its successful Black Rose range with the introduction of Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream. Restoring youthful bounce and radiance, this daily skin cream works to provide greater efficacy and comfort. Its delicate sensory texture and addictive fragrance gives immediate long-lasting restoring actions. Skin is plumped, smoothed and hydrated. Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Cream is now available in 50ml £128.00.

A dash of French glamour During the 1930’s, Albert Fouquet, creator of the Eight & Bob range of fragrances, was a regular visitor to the newly created ski resort of Megève - a favourite destination to local dignitaries, international diplomats, and glamorous celebrities alike. In this secluded yet picturesque Alpine region, Albert adored the wonderful ambience that surrounded him and captured this in Nuit de Megève. A fragrance that contains cool fresh notes of grapefruit and petit grain, entwines with its warm heart of tonka bean, orris, and black coffee. A dry, aromatic tobacco, earthy musk, and spicy vetiver, provides the fragrance its sensuous and robust base. Reintroduced, Nuit de Megève is available in a 100ml EdP £125. Furthermore,
