Alma Mater 'Ntid the silent hil1s surrounded, Ripened by the flight of time, And with honors still unbounded, In her strong and lusty prime, Alma Mater proudly raises Halls and tower tall and strong, And her children sing her praises, Sing them loud and sing them long. Ever shall her children love her, Forming still a noble band; While the flag that waves above her We shall bear to every land. Let us laud her colors glorious, Loyal to the Black and Blue; Let us wave her flag victorious, Pleclging each one
to be true.
And when age at last steals o'er us, Softly like the sinking sun, Visions will appear before us, Of the course that we have run. When our lives have told their story Failing lips shall move to cry: "Alma Mater ! live thy glory ! Alma Mater, C. C. L !"

The following September, l-raving ascencletl another step of learniug, we returnecl as o1c1 girls to C. C. L to welcome the new arrir, als. We electerl l3etty Wells presiclent, ancl uncler her leaclership the Sophomore class entererl into everything

In aclclition to these strelruolls er.rgagements we enjovecl our social activities, especially our Valentine Party in Rec Hall w1-rere the fun ancl merriment ran high. At the encl o{ the evening valentines were clistributed

Then came the sleigh-ricle which we gave to our sister class the Set'riors, ancl thoughts o{ this party will ite {or us a bright spot in our memories o{ 1-rapp1' times at C. C. I. Soon our Sophomore vear was at an encl, arrcl clurirrg the errsuing I'ear we were proucl to bear the name of luniors. Once more we were victorious on the hockey fie1cl ancl basketball court, and we now withclrew to leave the fielc1 to our closest competitors. Accorcling to custom we gave our Senior Partv on \\rashington's Birthdav. our entertainment began with an attractive play, "ll-he trlower Shoir", which was given in chapel. Later y.u wourcl have thought you were back among the people of two centuries ago, if you hacl glan,:ecl into Rec Hall that Satur<lay night aucl seen the colorful array of costumes. But all good things must come to an enc1, anc1, just as we enterecl c. c. I. with eagerness ancl hope awhile ago, now we prepare to leave with much the same feelings. intently ancl founcl a love1y garclen scene with many people present. Banners aclr'ertisecl t1-re fact that it was a charity fair. The chief attraction was a girl, seaterl at a little table, nt the encl of the garcleu. telling the fortunes of the patror-rs. Imagine my surprise upon cliscovering her to be Helen Clackett !
This soon faclecl arrcl a pleasant, airy classroom appearecl. Little chilclren were plannit.tg wooclen houses while others macle sancl castles. Behind her neat ancl orclerly desk sat their teacher, Jetrnie. She just loves to teach the little clears. Tl-re next picture was one of another classroom. The chilclren here were to say, thev were al1 dressecl alike in blue and white uniforms. A root-r-r in the \\ralclorf crowcleci this scene from view, ancl I watchecl the new one u'ith interest. Two verv short pages were ushering a couple into the clir.ring-room, an<1, rrpon close observance, I recognizerl them as Shrimp ancl Betty llutler. 'I'l-reir C. C. Presentiy I looked into the office of Johrr D. Rockerfeller himself ! C)n a chair at his right sat Esther, who was taking dictation in a lapicl, clear shorthancl. To me she seemecl an efficient stenographer. The next picture was clistirrctly foreign. Under the shaclow of a pagocla Jane stoocl, preaching to a grorlp of Chinanien. F'rom their acloring glances I should say that Jane was doing very well. 34
The flan-res grew brighter ancl I saw a Broaclway theatre. Bi11y Newman was playing ski1liu1ly the role of leading lac1y in, o'Alrie's Irish Rose." Her per{ormance brought deafening applause from the packed house.
A solemn procession passecl ancl I cliscovered Julie. She hacl begun an arclent campaign to refolm the State of New Jersey. She hacl a large nllmber o{ fol1owers who seemed to give her adequate support. This clisappearecl, ancl in its place was a beautiful limousine speeding along Park Avenue. Herp, the owner of this luxurious vehicle, hacl become a clever actress. For a moment, I caugirt a glimpse o{ her name as it appeared in flashing lights on Broadway. -llherr
I saw the spacious toy clepartmer-rt of R. H. ldacv anctr Co. young clerk was illustrating the merits of N'Iacv's new ro1ler coasters Upon closer observance I recogr-rized her as Dot Fowles.

Religious Notes and Girl Reserves of C. C. I. We find an important place in our brrsy scheclule for the wor1c1-wic1e Girl Reserve C1ub. Through this r,r,'e fir-rcl opportunity, in our rveekl1, meetings ancl aclclitional activities, to consicler atrcl clevelop the spiritual, mental, ancl clemocratic relationships between one another, ancl between us an<1 the girls of other lar-rc1s. C)ur works begins eveu before school opens irr September, for it is one of our clearest cllstoms to sencl letters of welcon're to the new stucler-rts entering onr school. Our neit step this year was inviting the entire school to a N[arshmallow Roast at the olcl quariy on October 2, and. the goocl time resulting claims a place in the number of happy memories oi C. C. I. Soon after came the I'Tembersl-rip' I)rive-an event renclerecl unusually exciting by the rivalry of the two teams, each strir.ing to olrtair.r the larger number of members. 'l-he losing teanr plovecl its sportsmanship by treating the winners to an evening at the "movies." 'fhe new members were aclmittecl to the "Circle of Light" at the beautiiul and impressive Canclle Service a week later. \\,-e helcl regular 'lhttrsclav-r.rig*1-rt meetings throughout the year, ar.rd interesting prograrls were proviclecl; f or instance, ltliss Robison, one of our own f acultl'. gave a ritalll inlelestirtg talk un ltct'own rx1reris11,'sq as a rrris:i,,l1ary tn the nr,our-rtaineers of tl'ris country. The ar-rnual Y. \\r. C. A. ltanquet was helcl this year at the Irrn in the town. 'lhe enthusiastic orchestra, macle up of our own girls, furnished mn:sic throughout the clinner, anci tl-re toasts aciclecl greatly to the fun. 'lhe l'Iite J3ox, to wl.rich we all contribute of our efforts in the l-enten season, lrrought L1s two hundrecl and thirty-eight dollars, u''l'rich, with the profits of our C. C. I. Revue,.vill lre used for charitable causes. 108
A pageant of the Book o{ Iisthel was rvritter-r bv a member of the schoolbocil', ar.rcl was prescnterl lrv 'l-he Girl Reserl'es on April 29. The costumes ancl setting were lovelv, ancl the pageant was a great suLrcess. \\rhile all tl'rese atrnual er,ents are tery clear to us, I think rve all agree that o{ all is a \ reekl}' occLlrrelrce-our Sunclav night Vesper-s. Usuallv, Dr. Trevorrow is the speaker ancl his vital, beneficient worcls, which mean so mucl-r to tts t.row ancl later, are the explanation o{ the fact tl'rat at C. C. I. we fincl Vespers a thing to be ar.rticipatecl ancl rememberecl, rather than to be avoicled whenever clearest
possible.
Of course our school Presiclent is by no means our onlv Vesper speaker, for we have nr,any other irterestinq {)nes who colne to us. Among ihe sl,eakers whom we have hearcl tl'ris vear are Dr. Neff, Dr. Nlartin, Dr. Cole, Dr. IJ. W.

The French Club, this year, has taken its accustomed place among the C. C. I. organizations. Our memltership has increasecl so greatly that at the beginning of the seconci semester it was thought best to clivicle the club ; the seconcl year girls {orming a club of their own witl-r separatei ofllcers an<l meetings. This plan has provecl very successful.
In November the Club gave its annual "Cabaret", which, this year, took the form o{ the festival of the Parisian "N{idinettes" that is held on the Fete of St.
Catherine.
During the second term each division presentecl a French Play. "Celui qui "La Danseuse de Jean", both proving exceed-
Epousa une Femme N{uette" and ingly successful anrl anrusing.
As Marie Louise Armancl, the French orphan for whose schooling the Club has pai<l, is now able to earn her own living, we have adopted a little girl only six years old, who is in the orphanage at Grenoble. The girls of next year ancl those to come will care for little Noel as we have for Marie Louise, and the good work of "Le Cercle Francais" will go on.
