Badminton team continues winning streak

The 1982-83 badminton season marked the 15th consecutive year the Centenarv team has been undefeated. Their

unbeatable record created quite a media stir this year, when Coach Abbie Rutledge and some of the players were interviewed for a segment of the Channel 13 New Jersey Nightly News.

50

The team's dynamic lineup consisted of:

First doubles

Beth Perreault* - Mary Jane Facciponti

Second doubles

Lichtermann -Tracy Debbie Kerr

First singles -Wendy Schultz second singles Eva cook - Karen vanderhoof Third singles Vigra Fourth singles

82 Hocl<ey Team: short on wins,

long on spirit Although Coach Alice Eherts' varsity field hockey victory against the Alumnae team on Parents' Weekend - the scores of the other games were close. Th e 1982 squad was spirited and enjoyed working together. Because many of the players were new to the game and others hadn't played in a couple of years, the team devoted its season to working closely with Eherts on developing skills and learning to move together on the field.

Softball squad: "Best in years" for Centenary The 1983 softball team's 2-6 record, according to Coach Carol Allen, "does not accurately reflect the abitity of the team." "l feel the team was the best team skill and attitude wise have had at Centenary," she

-we

said.

-

Four of the team's games against other teams in the conference were lost by only a one-run deficit. It was during this season that the team joined

a new conference the Women's lntercollegiate Athletic Conference.

A Message from the Presldent would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the graduating class of 1983. Your program of study has been successfully completed, and you are now ready to enter a new phase in your life. Mrs. Dick and I wish you every success as you begin to pursue your chosen career. I hope that as you grow, both personally and professionally, your years at Centenary College will be recallecl with the fondest of memories. I urge you to become an active participant in the Centenary College Alumnae Association, and I look forward to seeing you again on campus each spring for Alumnae Day or whenever you choose to visit us. To all associate degree recipients, I sincerely hope that this milestone in your lives will merely be a halfway point in your formal education. Never before has a Baccalaueate degree been so crucial for success and career advancement as it is in today's work environment. I urge those of you who are receiving your Associate clegree to move directly into a Baccalaureate degree program, preferably at Centenary College, so that in two more short years you \ /ill be able to compete successfully in the I

workplace. I also wish to extend my congratulations to your friends, parents or guardians, and all others close to you who have maintained theirfaith in your academic abilities and who have assisted you in achieving this important goal in your life. Theirs is a job well done. ln years to come, I am confident that you will appreciate even more your days at Centenary. The faculty and administration have enjoyed having you on campus, and we wish you the best in whatever direction lifâ‚Ź takes you. Sincerely, Charles H. Dick President
