The Lawyer Locator is an online directory providing members an opportunity to list up to three areas of practice for public advertising.*

*To update your area of practice and counties you practice in visit the TCDLA website and under your profile click on the Lawyer Locator tab to edit.

The Significant Decisions Report is emailed weekly by Kyle Therrian. Most lawyers can’t keep up with the volume of reported cases. Experienced lawyers monitor advance sheets and generate professional reports summarizing state and federal cases. *

Strike Force

Our Mission Statement & Purpose

Strike Force is here to protect the defense function by assisting attorneys under attack for their role defending the accused. Strike Force is in place to help all criminal defense attorneys who are appropriately representing their clients and who, as a result, find themselves under attack. Examples of circumstances where aid may be provided by Strike Force include threats of contempt of court or other sanctions or threats of sanction which may hinder the criminal defense attorney in fairly representing their client.

Procedures

1. Bring Strike Force issues to the attention of the Chairs:

Nicole DeBorde Hochglaube William Reagan Wynn nicole@houstoncriminaldefense.com rw@reaganwynn.law (713) 526-6300 p (817) 900-6800 p

2. Chairs will determine if it is a potential Strike Force issue.

3. If it is a Strike Force issue, Chairs will communicate with the Executive Committee and/or General Counsel.

4. Chairs will communicate with committee members for a plan of action.

Note: Committee members cannot take action without approval from the Chairs.

Amicus Committee & Guidelines

TCDLA’s Committee aims to provide amicus assistance in both state and federal courts in cases that present issues of importance to criminal defendants, criminal defense lawyers, and the criminal justice system as a whole, in a manner consistent with TCDLA's fundamental purpose of protecting and ensuring the individual rights guaranteed by the Texas and Federal Constitutions in criminal cases. It is the Committee's goal to maintain and enhance the positive impact of TCDLA on the criminal justice system at both the State and national level.

The Committee aims to submit amicus briefs, whenever possible, in appellate cases that meet one or more of the following criteria:

• The case presents an appropriate vehicle for promoting TCDLA's policies and positions.

• The case presents an issue of widespread applicability and significant importance for the fair adjudication of criminal cases on either a statewide or nationwide basis.

• The case is one which will particularly benefit from amicus participation—e.g., where the assisted party, for reasons of strategy, page limitations, limited informational resources, or otherwise cannot raise in the opening brief a particular issue that can and should be addressed in an amicus brief.

• The case involves clearly presented legal issues which are ripe for resolution and are not unduly reliant on facts specific to that case.

• The case is presented to the Committee within sufficient time for adequate assistance to be provided consistent with the high standards of representation for which TCDLA should be known.

The Amicus Committee also provides a free moot court program to enhance oral argument preparation for appearances before the Court of Criminal Appeals, ultimately benefiting both members and their clients.

The Committee encourages members and non-members to contact the chair of the Amicus Committee to discuss potential issues for amicus assistance, and to do so as early as possible in the process.
