\ What Roles Do The Teachers Play? 



The teacher is learning about each child, not just what is typical of 3-5 year olds. The teacher is the researcher, the data gatherer, and the strategic contributor to the child’s capacity to learn.

Within the teacher-researcher role, our teachers carefully listen, observe, and document children's work and the growth of community in their classroom. They provoke, co-construct, and stimulate thinking, and collaboration. Each is committed to reflection about his or her own teaching and learning.

Documentation of children's work (called panels), collections that children have made, and work that children have created are displayed both at the children's and adult’s eye levels A welcoming environment encourages a child to engage in activity and discovery. The Reggio Emilia approach integrates nature into the curriculum so that the child learns to appreciate the physical and structural environment. It is designed to encourage playful encounters for our Preschool and PreKindergarten students.

The Daily Schedule We want your child to feel secure and independent, to move from one activity to another as easily and confidently as possible. We want to provide a variety of learning experiences for a well-rounded education, so we plan a daily schedule with these goals in mind. The schedule you see on the table works well for us. After a few short weeks, the children become remarkably independent and responsible learners

~Hours of Operation~ Before school care: Monday -Friday 7:00 a.m. – 8:15 a.m.

Half-day hours: Monday-Friday 8:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Full-day hours: Monday-Friday 8:15 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.

After school care: Monday-Friday 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Curriculums

The child: “The child is worthy of being listened to.” 

Children are growing researchers; they can and want to communicate with the surrounding world.

They are individuals with their own thoughts, emotions and expressions.



Children have enormous potential and curiosity.

Children strive to understand the world, creating their own theories to explain how it functions.

Their knowledge should be drawn out using their natural curiosity, not filled in.



The Reggio Approach also understands that time should not always be set by the clock, but by the need and interest of the children. Sufficient time is given for children to express, learn, explore, extend and revisit given projects.

Our Program at Toledo Christian Eagle’s Nest “educate, train, prepare”

“Children are learning every minute of their day.” They are learning from their environment, from their daily schedule, from their activities and from time spent outdoors. They learn from the world around them. In the Eagle’s Nest, we work to facilitate their learning.

The Classroom Each classroom is set up for authentic learning.

Children are given opportunities to make choices, come up with ideas, experiment and take responsibility for their work.  Materials are low on shelves, in containers and on hooks so they can be managed independently  Shelves are neat and uncluttered, so materials are easy to see, remove and replace.  Distinct interest areas are created ~blocks, dramatic play, art, discovery, library, sensory and movement~ to promote decision-making, focus, and classification. These skills are essential to understanding and problem solving.  A variety of learning materials are available to the child in each area  Soft lamps, comfortable arrangements, and natural, inviting decor give each classroom a familiar hominess

The Creative Curriculum: Using exploration and discovery as a way of learning, The Creative Curriculum for Preschool enables children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills. The Creative Curriculum:  is based on 38 objectives for development and learning, which are fully aligned with the early learning standards for the state of Ohio  offers daily opportunities for individualized instruction  addresses all areas of learning content and Kindergarten readiness  recognizes and provides for the needs of learners at all levels

Handwriting Without Tears (Pre-K only): Aiming to make legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill, our curriculum uses hands-on, educationally sound instructional methods to teach handwriting.

HeartShaper Bible: Children are introduced to God, His Son, His Word, and His Church. They will become engaged in Bible stories and Bible study through multisensory learning, Bible skill-building activities, and focused life application.

Open Court Language Arts (Pre-K only): A research-based curriculum grounded in systematic, explicit instruction of:  phonemic awareness, phonics and word knowledge  comprehension skills and strategies  inquiry skills and strategies  writing and language arts skills and strategies
