The 33-year-old man is originally from Cork, but had been living in Dublin until his recent return to his native city. It understood he was shot in the leg in the attack. His injuries are not life-threatening. In their statement, the Real IRA said: “He was shot in the leg for his
un-Republican conduct.” Two ambulances were called to the scene and he was rushed to hospital when the incident occurred last Thursday. Gardaí became aware of the incident after being contacted by the HSE after staff at the hospital discovered the man had been shot. No complaint has yet been made to gardaí about the attack. Gardaí are also investigating an in-
cident which saw four raiders break into a house near Kilbehenny, North Cork on Thursday night, where they tied up a husband, wife and a female relative in their 50s. All three received hospital treatment for their injuries. The raiders escaped with a small amount of money. A shooting incident in Onslow Gardens in the city is also being investigated — see page two.
