County mayor Cllr Noel O’Connor said the deaths of Kyle Roche who drowned in Youghal last Thursday and a four-year-old girl from Doneraile who died following a road accident near Grenagh on Saturday reminded us that “precious life can end in an instant.” “The deaths of two beautiful children have an enormous effect on not just their heartbroken families but the entire community. We should be thinking about youngsters playing and laughing in the sunshine, enjoying ice cream but instead we mourn for two of our children. I would urge people to take extra care whatever they are doing during the sunny spell so we can hopefully avoid any more heartbreak. Our hearts are with the communities and our deepest sympathies go out to both families.”
As girl dies in separate accident in North Cork
By PADRAIG HOARE The four-year-old child was travelling with her parents when the family car was involved in a single-car accident near Grenagh just after 4pm on Saturday. Her five-year-old sister was taken to Cork University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Parish priest at Grenagh, Fr Aidan Crowley, said the county was reeling from the tragedies. “It is absolutely unspeakable and unimaginable that any family would lose a child so young.” Witnesses to the road accident are asked to contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on (021) 4946200. Hundreds of mourners came to Mass of the Angels for Kyle, who was described as bringing “so much joy and happiness” to those that loved him. ● See page three for more.
