THERE was some positive news today for Munster coach Rob Penney with both Conor Murray and Stephen Archer expected to be in consideration for Munster’s make-or-break Heineken Cup round five tie with Edinburgh next Sunday in Scotland, ZULWHV 6($1 0F&$57+< Murray was forced off after just 14 minutes with a cut lip in the loss to Cardiff in Cork at the weekend, while Archer limped out of the action with 20 minutes remaining after sustaining a dead-leg. Remaining a more immediate concern for the coach is Mick Sherry, who hurt an ankle and was replaced in the 23rd minute. Damien Varley and Luke O’Dea, who both missed the Cardiff game through illness, have recovered and will be training with the squad today, while Johne Murphy, forced out of the starting XV for Saturday’s game after tweaking a hamstring in training, remains a doubt. Meanwhile, this afternoon Paul O’Connell addressed the national media outlining details of his career-threatening back injury, and his rehabilitation program. Munster’s final British and Irish Cup pool game against Plymouth Albion on Friday January 18 will now take place at Temple Hill. The game was originally scheduled for the Waterford Regional Sports Centre, but has now been moved due to a delay in ground works. The Munster A side travel to Aberavon this Saturday for their penultimate clash in the British and Irish Cup pool.

The duo who have signed three-and-a-half year deals with the Tigers, sign on from Manchester United and Sunderland respectively. Both players have impressed during loan spells, helping the Tigers to second place in the league table and into the promotion race. “I'm delighted to announce I've signed for Hull City on a three and half year deal. HARTY CUP THE new chairman of the Carbery GAA Board, John Corcoran, believes a combined West Cork schools team should be put forward to compete in the Dr Harty Cup. Corcoran believes that the failure of Cork schools to make a significant impact in the prestigious competition in recent years is to the detriment of the game in the county and he believes that it needs addressing. “I have been taking note of the failure of the Cork schools to challenge at the business end of the Harty Cup and, while it’s great to see Midleton CBS make the quarter-finals this season, we should be doing a lot better overall in the competition. “I have suggested entering a combined West Cork schools team next season and you would be drawing on players from four schools in that. “The four schools that I am talking about are St Brogan’s Bandon, Hamilton HS Bandon, Clonakilty CS and Mary Immaculate, Dunmanway.’’ The new divisional chairman believes if such a proposal got the green light the game of hurling in general at underage level in the county would
