Loughrey: Depth is key CORK newcomer James Loughrey believes the depth of the Rebel panel has been crucial to their impressive start to the championship.
“The boys we had coming off the bench are probably the best in Ireland.”

Aidan Walsh, Ciarán Sheehan, Donncha O’Connor and Alan O’Connor were introduced yesterday, with Alan Quirke and Noel O’Leary held back; six of the starting 15 from the 2010 All-Ireland final. “The boys we had coming off the bench are probably the best in Ireland. There’s no team has better subs than the likes of Ciarán and Aidan, so every individual knew they had to empty the tank, to give it their all.” Loughrey, man of the match in Cusack Park ahead of forward duo

Murphy is Rebel captain HURLING BRIDE ROVERS Brian Murphy will captain Cork in next Sunday’s Munster SHC semi-final with Clare at the Gaelic Grounds, ZULWHV -2+1 +25*$1 Murphy will wear the captain’s armband in the absence of Patrick Cronin who has been ruled out as a starter on the team because of a recent viral infection. However, the Bishopstown man could feature at some stage in the game as a sub but it will be one of Cork’s most decorated defenders who will have the honour of leading out his county in a major championship outing for the first time. Definitely out of the Cork team is outstanding midfielder Lorcán McLoughlin who has a shoulder injury. His absence was described by team boss Jimmy Barry-Murphy as a ‘terrible blow’. “He was one of our best players in the league and is a huge loss to us.’’ ● More GAA P45-53.
