MESSAGE FROM MINISTER FOR TOURISM INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT, THE HONOURABLE KATE JONES MP It is my pleasure to welcome you to Toowoomba for Australia’s longest-running annual horticultural event, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. This 10-day celebration of everything that is ‘spring’ attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year to enjoy entertainment, local food and produce, regional wine and of course, spectacular floral displays. The event has become an integral part of the city’s identity and this year’s 70th edition of the event is sure to be memorable. The Queensland Government is proud to support the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers through Tourism and Event’s Queensland’s major events program which helps drive visitation, increase expenditure, support jobs and foster community pride. It is a major highlight on the state’s It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, worth $800 million to Queensland’s economy in 2019. Congratulations to the event organisers, and all of those who are involved in delivering the event. During your visit I encourage you to explore the unique tourism experiences on offer in Southern Queensland Country and hope you come away with amazing Queensland memories. THE HON KATE JONES MP Minister for Tourism Industry Development

TOOWOOMBA REGIONAL COUNCIL MAYOR’S WELCOME Welcome to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. It is an historic year for the Toowoomba Region as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of this iconic event. Originally the brainchild of Essex Tait and the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce in 1949, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers has continued to flourish over the years. This year the event won the Gold Award for Major Festivals and Events at the annual Australian Tourism Awards for a third consecutive year and as a result of this, has been inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame. This is a credit to everyone who has played a part over those 70 years from our gardeners who work so hard to have the flowers in full bloom during the ten-day celebration, to the residents and businesses who showcase our region’s wonderful community spirit through so many wonderful unique events. In September there simply is no better place to be than in Toowoomba for this captivating event. I welcome you to our beautiful region – we hope you enjoy everything there is on offer. CR PAUL ANTONIO Mayor, Toowoomba Regional Council

QUEENS PARK Queens Park is the hub of Carnival, hosting the Heritage Bank Festival of Food & Wine, Night Garden powered by Ergon Energy Retail, Sideshow Alley and the finishing point for the Grand Central Floral Parade. Queens Park has retained the charm and character common to 19th century public parks and botanic gardens. The much-loved Queens Park is probably most recognised for the beautiful camphor laurel lined avenue. But there's something to behold wherever your eyes take you including bright flower beds, large canopies of stately trees and acres of expansive green lawns.

Pink Matter was born in late 2016, and ever since, the neo-soul 4-piece has captivated the Brisbane music scene. Within their first year, the all-female group won the QUBE Effect ‘People’s Choice Award’, played Jungle Love Festival and released their debut single Quicksand, which would later earn them airplay on 4ZZZ, Triple J Unearthed radio and Triple J.

From the likes of The Beatles and The Kinks, right through to the modern rock jangles of The Kooks and The Strokes, Sloan Peterson has embraced warm and swirling guitars, and retrospective vocals as a staple on her new record. To the same merit, contemporary pop queens Lana Del Rey and Gwen Stefani lend influence in the form of Sloan Peterson’s sultry and sweet tones.

One listen to Lost Friends, Middle Kids critically acclaimed debut record and it’s clear that the rising Australian trio is aligned with each member’s own vision. Its 12 songs veer from brittle blasts of indie rock to elegiac piano ballads to pop anthems destined to ignite stadium singalongs.

100,000 people line the street as flowery floats wind their way through the heart of the city. This year's wonderful theme is "Power of the Flower". Street performers, carnival characters, incredible inflatables and stilt walkers escort the stunning floral floats on their journey to Queens Park. Be early to grab a good viewing spot because the whole town and thousands of visitors turn out for the Parade! There’s free chalk so you can make your own artistic mark on the parade route and when it’s over, head for the Godsall Street Oval where the floats are on display and the flowers, fruit and veggies that decorated them will be available for sale!

There’s no better time of year to explore the sights, tastes and entertainment that our beautiful region has on offer, and we’re inviting you to join us for all the colour and action of the iconic Grand Central Floral Parade. In 1950, the very first floral parade was led by a bullock team and watched by over 50,000 members of the community. In 2018, we had over 100,000 people line the streets to watch over 80 floats, performers and community groups showcase what their community means to them. This year we are taking a walk back in history, to celebrate the people that devote hours upon hours of their time, creativity and community spirit to create this parade for our city each year. Join us at the 2019 Grand Central Floral Parade to see this year’s theme ‘The Power of the Flower’ brought to life by our community, led by an updated version of the 1950's bullock team. We’d love for you to visit us in-centre as well. Join us on Carnival Saturday atGrand Central Shopping Centre for entertainment and fun for all the family before heading out to watch the parade, plus visit our historical photo wall in-centre, showcasing a range of images from the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers over the past 70 years. We look forward to sharing this momentous milestone with our community and visitors, and are proud to once again be a Major Partner for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.

HIGHFIELDS STEAMPU NK FESTIVAL

Showcase of over 40 of Toowoomba’s best artisan and craftspeople and their wares in a beautiful historic hall. Fairy Dell will help children make fairy gardens and there will be a flower area to talk to local growers of the plants for sale. There will also be a special exhibit area, Flaunting the Flower, which is open to all artists in any medium for special pieces.

The region’s most comprehensive annual art exhibition is on from the 21st to the 28th of September. Featuring more than 1,000 pieces from more than 200 artists, the exhibition has something for everyone. For more information, visit www.downlandsart.com

The Highfields Steampunk Festival is bringing our steam-powered past to the forefront of today’s technology through combining historical elements with old-fashioned features. There will be a historic steam engine powering a water pump, miniature steam train rides, steampunk fashion competition and steam-flower art show incorporating floral inspired pieces with a steampunk twist.
