“Salute to Business is a signature event of the Temple Chamber of Commerce, that we were unable to host in 2021 as a result of the pandemic. We cannot wait to bring business and community leadership together to celebrate the excitement of the transformation happening in the greater Temple community,” said Rod Henry, President of the Temple Chamber of Commerce. Salute to Business will be held at the Mayborn Convention Center on Tuesday, January 26, 2022. A social hour begins at 5:45 p.m. followed by dinner and a keynote speaker. The keynote speaker this year is the 76th Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Dade Phelan. A native of Southeast Texas, Dade Phelan represents Texas House District 21 and serves as the 76th Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. First elected to the Texas House in 2014, he is currently serving his fourth term as State Representative for HD21, which covers Orange County, part of Jefferson County, and Jasper County. He was elected House Speaker in 2021. In his first term as Speaker, Phelan dealt with unprecedented events, including restoring economic stability after COVID-19 and Winter Storm Uri. In his first term as Speaker, the Legislature restored our state’s position as the best economic climate in America, while adding government spending limits and maintaining $12 billion in our state’s rainy-day fund. In addition to fully funding public education, Phelan created a framework to expand rural broadband and telehealth, overhauled the regula-

Join Keep Temple Beautiful on December 8 for Holiday Eco-Tips, Tricks & Trees Tanya Gray, Keep Temple Beautiful According to Andy Williams, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” but unless it’s a green holiday season you’re planning, it’s also the most wasteful, consumer-driven time of the year.
However, it doesn’t have to be! This year, why not add eco-friendly practices to your holiday décor? From decorating to gift-giving to creating beautiful mantels and tables, the holidays shouldn’t mean not having an earth-conscious lifestyle. As I’m sure you know, an eco-friendly and natural décor will bring your home an organic holiday touch, while preserving the festive nature of the holidays. A good way to begin is by showing off what you’ve learned at this year’s Eco-Lunch ‘n Learn “Eco-Tips, Tricks, and Trees” event. On Wednesday, December 8th, enjoy Seleese Thompson, owner of Precious Memories Florist and Gift Shop as she shares fun facts and festive trees, mantels, and tables inspired with eco-conscious details. In keeping with the tradition of Keep Temple Beautiful’s annual holiday Eco-Lunch ‘n Learn, the program will include festive tips and tricks to repurpose everyday items, adding style to your home and office holiday decor.
This festive and fast-paced program will entail the use of natural elements, the repurposing of everyday household items along with ideas for environmentally friendly gift wrapping and gift-giving. So, come learn how to turn a simple mantel or table into an elaborate holiday centerpiece. The Holiday Eco-Lunch ‘n Learn will be held downtown at 17 N. 2nd Street at noon on December 8th. Temple Manufacturer Awarded Employer of the Year by Workforce Solutions of Central Texas at Annual Torch Awards Temple Chamber of Commerce Staff
Temple based manufacturer Reynolds Consumer Products was recognized as Employer of the Year by Workforce Solutions of Central Texas at their annual awards luncheon, the Torch Awards, on October 29, 2021. During 2021, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas worked hand-in-hand with Reynolds Consumer Products to recruit and retain employees in the Central Texas area. Reynolds has 51 years of successful operations in Temple, and currently employs 400 full-time and temporary employees.
A quote from Reynolds states, “Beyond all of these events in the past year, we have worked diligently to retain the employees that we are fortunate enough to bring into the Reynolds family. We have increased starting wages and restructured our pay and benefits…and revamped every aspect of our training program to make it as useful as possible to new employees and we are seeing result!”
They work diligently to maintain production levels within their product lines to keep their plant operating and Central Texans employed. With steady operations, Reynolds continuously has a demand for workers, and is actively involved in many hiring events hosted by Workforce Solutions of Central Texas. Reynolds also expanded their partnership with Workforce Solutions of Central Texas in an effort to grow their workforce and engage local youth in an internship model sponsored by the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) Wingspan Program. The internships were designed to encourage the career development of young people in our community. During Summer of 2021, Reynolds Consumer Products also participated in a three-day Summer Teacher Externship Program. The program placed two school teachers at the Reynolds production facility and distribution warehouse in Temple. While on site, the teachers learned the operations and production line requirements and from that experience, they can teach their students realworld expectations.

Social Services in Temple: Removing Barriers, Chaning Lives, Strengthening our Community Jason Culp, Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center; Tyson McLaughlin, Extraco Banks; Jordan Valentin, Coley Group, Inc. - LT Class of 2022
Temple is teeming with many organizations whose focus is improving the quality of life for our residents, which was evident throughout Leadership Temple’s Social Services Day. The group saw how many men and women serve enthusiastically and effectively to remove barriers, change lives, and strengthen our community. The Salvation Army McLane Center of Hope, located at 419 W. Avenue G, is putting on full display their mantra of ‘Doing the Most Good.’ Lt. David Beckham leads the charge in organizing the support that many in the community need. They operate a men’s shelter, women’s shelter, and a family shelter for those who find themselves without housing. The intent is not for the facility to be a long-term solution but rather an opportunity to educate and enable those who use their shelter to stand on their own. The Salvation Army provides follow-up assistance for up to two years to ensure their clients succeed. They also offer a wide variety of services for walk-ins or residents, such as assistance with VA benefits, job searches, utility assistance, and a food and clothing pantry. Additionally, they host church services and Sunday School weekly, which are open to the public.
LT Class of 2022 packing Happy Bags at Churches Touching Lives for Chirst tor Barbara Bozon, provides income-based housing for Temple and Belton residents. The Housing Consortium manages hundreds of properties and has over 60 employees. Not only do they provide affordable housing, but they strive to build a sense of community through leadership training, educational workshops, socials for their residents, and many other valuable resources. Churches Touching Lives for Christ was the final partner organization introduced to the Leadership Temple group. They are one of the several organizations in Temple helping to address food insecurity for residents. They are open six days per week and in 2020 provided food for over 3,200 families. One of their programs, Happy Bags, is facilitated by United Way of Central Texas Board Member Martha Tyroch. The program provides nutrition bags for Temple ISD school children who may not have access to adequate food over the weekend. The bags are assembled at the food pantry and distributed to several Temple ISD schools.
Churches Touching Lives for Chirst The United Way of Central Texas, led by Executive Director Stephanie O’Banion, is located in downtown Temple at 4 N. 3rd St. The United Way has a strong reputation as an advocate and supporter of many non-profits in the area. They focus on improving the education, health, and financial stability of those in our local community. Through collaborative efforts with many different agencies and non-profits, they make a positive impact on the community.
The list could go on, but in our time as a Leadership Temple class spent with these wonderful organizations, we were blown away by the commitment those in our community have for the betterment of our fellow residents. It inspires us to do our part to ensure that each person in our community does not go without needs met and the effort that is required of us who are able and willing to love our fellow man in such a way.
One of the partner organizations of the United Way of Central Texas is the Temple Community Clinic. Established in 1992, and led by Executive Director Sherri Woytek, the Temple Community Clinic began as a Leadership Temple project to reach the uninsured and underinsured residents in the area. The clinic is located at 1905 Curtis B Elliot Dr. and is open 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, MondayThursday. At the end of September 2021, the clinic had facilitated over 2,700 appointments – providing dental services, vision services, prescription assistance, and medical supplies -filling a void for those that would otherwise go without critical medical care. The Central Texas Housing Consortium is also a partner organization of the United Way of Central Texas. The Housing Consortium, led by Executive Direc-

Baylor Scott & White Health Scott and White Health Plan will be rebranded as Baylor Scott & White Health Plan beginning January 1, 2022 and is expanding its offerings to serve even more Texans. In addition, Baylor Scott & White Health Plan—which will continue to provide quality coverage to Texas seniors through its BSW SeniorCare Advantage™ plans — has been honored by U.S. News & World Report as one of only three “Best” insurance companies for Medicare Advantage in Texas. “We are thankful to be able to make healthcare more accessible to a greater number of Texans,” said Jeff Ingrum, president and CEO of Scott and White Health Plan. “We’re eager to serve additional communities and connect them with quality care.” New name, more Texans served— same great coverage The health plan’s new name, Baylor Scott & White Health Plan, reinforces the commitment to coordinate care and coverage with the Baylor Scott & White Health system.
“Your Medicare Advantage plan will work more closely than ever with your Baylor Scott & White Health system of providers,” Ingrum said. This year, Scott and White Health Plan is expanding coverage to serve patients in eight new counties, including Bastrop, Caldwell, Colorado, Erath, Freestone, Gillespie, Gonzales and Leon. This brings the coverage area to a total of 39 counties throughout North and Central Texas. Members with multiple chronic conditions may also now be eligible for inhome medical visits by doctors and other providers, including routine house calls, urgent house calls and 24/7 phone support for needs such as prescribing medications, labs, behavioral health, nutrition and social work support. “The in-home visits are coordinated with a member’s primary care physician to provide continuity of care and adherence to a member’s established treatment plan,” said Dr. S. Ramalingam, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Scott and White Health Plan. The Medicare Advantage plan, BSW SeniorCare Advantage™ plan, is designed to coordinate doctors, simplify member experience and eliminate unnecessary expenses.
As a patient of Baylor Scott & White Health and a member of a BSW SeniorCare Advantage™ plan, patients can access healthcare and insurance information in one secure portal through the MyBSWHealth app or website, including scheduling appointments, messaging a provider, viewing test results, and reviewing and paying bills. “Digital tools allow patients to quickly and easily access care and take an active role in their health, which can improve their overall well-being,” Ingrum said. The annual enrollment period for Medicare Advantage starts Oct. 15 and runs through Dec. 7. Baylor Scott & White Health providers and hospitals also accept other Medicare Advantage plans. BSW SeniorCare Advantage™ HMO and PPO were recently rated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) with an overall 4.5 out of 5 stars for 2022. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a five-star rating system. “This recognition is a direct reflection of our dedication to provide convenient access to quality, coordinated patient care with an exceptional experience,” Ingrum said. Star ratings reflect a plan’s performance and quality outcomes to help seniors shop for health insurance.
