The program is offered at no cost to qualified applicants and held at Temple College. The curriculum is through LaunchMyCity, with Temple College staff, Rotary Members, and business community volunteers providing instruction. The program has eight training sessions with topics including Business Models, Market Research, Funding, Legal Strategy, Marketing and Branding, and more. The participants are also matched with a Mentor to help them navigate the journey of an entrepreneur. Some of the program participants did so to strengthen an existing business. Business Spotlight: Firefly Yoga & Movement Studio
Claire Jones, UMHB Student, Temple Chamber of Commerce 2022 Spring Intern
Firefly Yoga & Movement Studio states that, “when people feel better because of the benefits of yoga, they are generally kinder, and the world is just an allaround happier place.” They are grateful to be in the Temple area, because the fast-growing pace brings in new faces who are looking for a studio “home.” It is to the ones who come in daily, no matter their schedules or what is occurring inside their personal lives, that inspires Firefly to continue to spread its wings. People from all walks of life step in Firefly’s doors. What they experience inside is a new, supportive, and inclusive community.
In the next 5 years, Firefly hopes to expand, and open other locations. Kelly closed by adding that what makes Firefly so unique is their teachers and students, and she challenges you to stop by and see it for yourself! Much like the lightning bug, Firefly Yoga & Movement Studio brings light to dull places. In fact, that’s how owner Kelly Partyke chose the studio’s name. She wanted their mission of bringing light to the community to be clear. Kelly fell in love with yoga after her youngest of three boys was born. Yoga was the perfect balance of wellness and family, allowing her to feel successful in both. After discovering her passion for yoga, Kelly decided to become certified to share the gift of yoga with others. Kelly’s certification is in Holy Yoga, which is a form of Christian Faith based yoga. The studio offers a variety of yoga classes, including chair yoga for the less mobile, aerial yoga, and adult yoga classes. Firefly Yoga & Movement Studio also offers a semi-private program that serves those who are looking for a more goal-oriented wellness routine. Firefly is the only yoga studio in the Temple area. Not only do they offer yoga services but located in the studio you will also find a boutique. The boutique hosts an array of yoga apparel, supplies, and wellness lifestyle products.

Nonprofit Spotlight: Amy's House
Claire Jones, UMHB Student, Temple Chamber of Commerce 2022 Spring Intern are allowed in. In addition, separate food storage drawers and separate refrigerator spaces are assigned for each patient. Patients who stay at Amy’s House may stay anywhere from 1 night to around 2 months depending on their medical needs. Patients and their caregivers are encouraged to make donations. However, the Board of Amy’s House understands that many patients have expended large sums on necessary medical care, leaving little to cover the expenses of temporary lodging. Therefore, Amy’s House allows patients and caregivers to stay regardless of their ability to make donations. Amy’s House also has other ways of providing patients and caregivers with ways to satisfy other needs. One example of this is that financial donors often provide grocery vouchers that Amy’s House distributes to patients who need them. Exterior photo of Amy's House, 2114 S. 15th St. (photo courtesy of Amy's House) Amy Henderson Firth died suddenly in 2012. Amy was an organ donor whose organs and tissues either saved lives, or made lives better, for least 70 people. Jim Fly, the Executive Director and Chaplain of Amy’s House explained that in honor of Amy, an affordable, sanitized, and safe home-away-from-home was established in Temple, Texas. He explained that Amy’s House is for living organ donors, organ recipients, and their support teams. Amy’s House provides rooms for patients who are gaining strength to return home, patients who still need to be close to the hospital, and the families and caregivers of transplant patients. Once a patient has stayed at Amy’s House, they are welcomed back when traveling into Temple for medical appointments related to their transplants. There are several things about Amy’s House that make it so unique and make it a huge asset for the community. Amy’s House knows how important sanitizing is for those who stay in the house. Most every patient who comes in is on an immunosuppressant, which makes patients very susceptible to infections. To minimize infections, several steps are in place. The air and surfaces are sanitized, guests are required to wear masks, and no children under the age of 16
In the future, Amy’s House plans to add opportunities for volunteers to help maintain the services Amy’s House provides. As for now, Amy’s House is focused on keeping the infection rate at low to none, and continuing to provide a home feel to patients who need peace, comfort, and a place to call home for a while. Visit Amy's House online: www.amyshouse-temple.org.

News from the Temple EDC: H-E-B is expanding in Temple, TX with Planned Frozen Distribution Center
Temple Economic Development Corporation The Temple Economic Development Corporation (Temple EDC) recently announced that H-E-B, the San Antonio based supermarket chain, will be expanding their Temple, Texas distribution facilities with a new automated frozen distribution line. Pending final negotiations with Temple EDC and the City of Temple the project will grow H-E-B's current facility footprint by 325,000 sq. ft. and will add over 100 jobs to the local economy. "It is our privilege to continue to work with H-E-B as they grow their presence in Temple, Texas" said Adrian Cannady, President and CEO of Temple Economic Development Corporation. "H-E-B has seen many cycles of growth and expansion throughout their time in Temple and we are proud of the opportunities they continue to bring to our region. This expansion project, paired with Temple's strategic location and immediate access to I-35, will work to strengthen H-E-B's operations in Texas." "As H-E-B grows into new markets across Texas, expansion of our Temple facilities supports our commitment to be the best retailer in Texas," said Chad Madison, group vice president of H-E-B warehousing. H-E-B's Temple Distribution warehouse supports over 100 H-E-B retail stores across the region, from Austin to Dallas, and has been operating in the Temple community since 2010. With over 117 years in business H-E-B is one of the nation's largest independently owned food retailers and sees $36 billion in annual sales. The company is in the permit stage of the expansion with construction slated to begin by the end of 2022, and project completion expected in 2024.
A Nor'easter in Temple this August Temple Chamber of Commerce Staff The Temple Chamber of Commerce is excited to host the second annual Summer Sizzle "Seltzer" in the Santa Fe Plaza Friday, August 5, 2022. This free, family-friendly community event coincides with First Friday in Downtown Temple. It is an evening of live music, food trucks, an outdoor market, and fun for the entire family from 6:00 - 9:30 pm. This year’s event is being “taken over” by one of Temple’s newest businesses, Polar Texas Bottling. They are bringing the “Chill” to Summer Sizzle "Seltzer" as they introduce their New England roots to Central Texas. Founded in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1882 by a savvy bartender, Denis Crowley recognized an opportunity in carbonation as Prohibition began to rumble in New England. He crafted what he considered the best-tasting bubble recipe and began selling sparkling beverages from a horse-drawn carriage. Today, Polar Beverages remains owned and operated by the Crowley family’s fourth and fifth generations, under the leadership of President and CEO Ralph Crowley Jr. They are the largest independent beverage company in the United States. They are purveyors of premium-quality sparkling beverages, including Polar® Seltzer, heritage sodas, and Polar Orange Dry®. Polar Beverages invites you to sip into their world on August 5, 2022. Visit templechamber.com/summerseltzer for more information.
Aerial photo, H-E-B Retail Services Center in Temple (photo courtesy of Temple EDC) "Temple is a community where growing businesses like H-E-B can thrive. We are thrilled that H-E-B has chosen to expand its footprint in our city and look forward to the new opportunities that will be available to our community," said Assistant City Manager of Temple, Erin Smith.
