Trust. Quality. Reputation. Expertise. Innovation.

In 2015, The Carter Group celebrates its 70th anniversary. When John Carter founded our business in 1945, he began a tradition of innovation and excellence that we pride ourselves on today. From the local British grocers, butchers and fishmongers who relied on John Carter’s early cabinets to keep their produce fresh, to Carter Retail Equipment Ltd’s global clients of the 21st century – our values remain the same. We are a family-owned company based in the heart of Britain whose industryleading reputation is built on trust, quality and expertise. From our manufacturing, research and development and testing facilities in Birmingham, we pioneer the newest technology and engineering solutions to meet the display refrigeration requirements of our supermarket client base.

While John Carter hand-built his first cabinets and coldstores from timber and other rudimentary materials in the mid 20th Century, the supermarket revolution brought a seismic shift in business and technology, with demand spreading first across Europe and then the world. Today, Carter Retail Equipment Ltd satisfies demand from some of the largest global retailers for our Hydrocarbon, CO2 and Chilled air-ducted cabinets across Europe and then globally. Natural refrigerant cabinets are now the majority of our output. Our company is fully equipped to provide solutions for new territories and emerging markets, including ultra energy-efficient products that offer the best performance and value for all climatic challenges.

Innovation is the application of better solutions to meet new requirements. As we look to what 100 years of trading will look like, the next 30 years will represent many new challenges with the reinvention of retail in developed markets and a transition of technology that has taken decades to realise and evolve in Europe which Carter Retail Equipment Ltd are now facilitating into other areas of the world in a matter of months. Carter Retail Equipment Ltd takes prides in being the preferred supplier to our customers, which we achieve by providing the best technologies and products in retail refrigeration to any store format – worldwide. It’s why thousands of satisfied customers across the world put their trust in us everyday.

We care for our environment... Energy efficiency in supermarket refrigeration has a critical role to play in preserving our environment. The requirement for refrigerated food in the modern world fulfils one of the most basic of human needs – but its impact is largely unknown to the public consumer. This is why the environmental impact of Carter Retail Equipment Ltd is central to the products we put into the marketplace. Supermarket growth is prolific and in the United Kingdom its refrigeration demand already represents about 3% of national electricity consumption. With every new product Carter Retail Equipment Ltd produces, we strive to cut environmental impact and power consumption.

Food waste in developing markets through inefficient cold-chains creates a combined challenge. In 2012 – through inefficient cold chains and consumer waste: - A third of all food produced was wasted - 25% of all fresh water consumed globally was used to produce food that was ultimately wasted - 300 million barrels of oil for the same cause - And 24 million acres of deforestation globally for food production to be ultimately wasted

Energy and food are not infinite resources. Energy efficient refrigeration providing food at the right product temperatures will assist in alleviating concerns of our growing global population. Our commitments through research and development and training are: - Leading the way on refrigeration containment - The usage of low GWP refrigerants - Providing the right product temperatures with the highest evaporating temperatures - The usage of the best commercially available energy efficient components - Providing best value through life-cycle costs

For other areas of the world currently realising rapid population and economic growth its effect will be even more profound; the built environment will need to grow but the energy resource to fulfil this growth will only diminish. The paramount need for environmental sustainability is not a fashion it is a reality.
