ICT PLUS feature How can I use ICT PLUS to help me get the most out of my allocation?

ICT PLUS (Planning, Leading, Utilisation, Strategy) assists principals and school leaders in making data-informed decisions. It currently provides insight into “managed” device data for Google, Microsoft and limited Apple devices with more Apple insights being added throughout 2021. FYI | “Managed” means machines that are connected to the network and run the Department’s Standard Operating Environment (SOE) image. Access to ICT PLUS is currently open to all school principals and field operations teams. School principals can in turn delegate access to other staff members via AMU.

The Planning Dashboard in ICT PLUS can answer the following questions for your school’s managed devices: • H ow many managed devices in your school are out of warranty? Check the Warranty chart.

• H ow many managed devices have 1 year or less warranty remaining? Download the Devices List and filter by warranty date. • Are they desktops or laptops? Click on the “Expired Warranty” segment of the Warranty chart, then take a look at the Form Factor chart.

Watch this 1-minute video to learn about the tool and what it can do for you. Hot tip: ICT PLUS is best used in the Chrome browser.

If you’re unfamiliar with the terminology used in the tool or would like to know more information about ICT PLUS, select the Help and Support page in the left-hand side menu of ICT PLUS. This page contains User Guides, Frequently Asked Questions and a Data Glossary, along with information about where the data comes from and how often it is updated in ICT PLUS. ICT PLUS sources data from multiple existing systems, making the various sources accessible in one place. Have you found that the data in ICT PLUS doesn’t line up to what you’ve found in your school? Please reach out to let us know and we’ll escalate your concern to the relevant ITD team, you can contact us directly on ictplus-devteam@det.nsw.edu.au BACK TO CONTENTS

• W hen was the last time someone logged into them? Take a look at the Utilisation chart, determined by last login date per device. For a detailed list of this information (and more) per managed device, go to the Devices List (Managed Only) table at the bottom of the Planning Dashboard and click Download as CSV.

T4L device management in schools

The NSW Department of Education provides schools with solutions to deliver a level of self-management for devices received through the T4L Rollout and discretionary purchase through EdBuy.

Windows Desktops, Notebooks and Tablets

Apple iPad and MacBook

Google Chromebooks

Your school’s eT4L Server provides a simple way to prepare a brand new Windows device for first time and ongoing use and management.

Since 2019, schools have had access to Jamf Pro to deliver mobile device management (MDM) for their Apple devices, including iPads and Mac computers. New devices are all preenrolled in each school’s Apple School Manager and a four-year Jamf Pro licence is included with each new Apple device. While the use of Jamf Pro is optional and other MDMs are available, with Jamf Pro, schools can:

To help schools set up their new Chromebooks for first time and ongoing use by students and staff, NSW DoE provides an enrolment process for the department’s Google domain. It’s an easy way of making your school’s Chromebooks work effectively with the department’s Wi-Fi infrastructure and with the DoE Google G Suite service.

• E asy build/rebuild with support delivered remotely via your school’s eT4L server • E asy installation of software via the DoE Software Catalogue and UDM • L ogon to any eT4L built device using your Department user credentials

• P repare their new devices out of • Automatically mapped shared drives the box and printers according to user type • Deploy apps from the App Store Find out more about eT4L and Mac Store wirelessly • C entrally configure restrictions and install app and OS updates

Find out more about mobile device management

It provides a consistent, reliable user experience. DoE Chromebook Enrolment is NOT a local management platform for Chromebooks. Schools don’t have access to the Google Admin Console and can’t locally assign their own settings, apps or extensions, however apps and extensions can be added by each user as needed.

Teach and learn with Windows

STEM and code

Presentations

Windows 10 brings computer science to life. Create augmented reality experiences with Paint 3D, PowerPoint and 3D Viewer apps, and use Windows apps such as Minecraft, Lego EV3 and MakeCode to learn to code!

PowerPoint has come a long way since 1997 and on Windows 10, it’s even better. You can insert 3D models, create animations, and use Design Ideas to create impressive presentations. Students also have the option to use Sway to create online presentations where they can also record their voice, add multimedia content, plus images and text.

Classroom and learning management Microsoft Teams is THE hub for teaching and learning on Windows 10 with quizzes, assignments, collaboration and more. With Microsoft Learning Tools built into Teams and 365 to support reading comprehension, line spacing and a picture dictionary, everything you need for digital learning is found in one space.

Multimodal documents

Voice Recorder and Video Editor are built-in apps for Windows 10 that allow simple creation of high-impact videos, as well as audio recordings of voice for podcasts. Nothing to download and so simple to use!

Whiteboard and OneNote bring learning to life on the digital page. Microsoft Whiteboard is a collaborative, digital whiteboard that makes it easy for a class to come together to share ideas in real time. Work naturally with digital ink, using pens or fingers to bring ideas to life in a limitless space. Board contents are automatically and securely saved so they can easily be shared. OneNote is a digital notebook that teachers can use to organise class notes, create interactive lesson plans, brainstorm with others, and engage in and encourage teamwork.

Collaboration

Creativity tools

The Office 365 experience is better on Windows 10. You can choose to access your cloud documents via Microsoft Edge or Office desktop software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, allowing students and teachers to collaborate in live time on their files saved in Teams or OneDrive.

Windows Ink functionality in Windows 10 contains applications and features that enable pen computing to create in Paint 3D, Whiteboard app, and even the Adobe Suite! Students can capture thoughts and express ideas in OneNote with or without a digital stylus and can even annotate PDFs and webpages in Microsoft Edge!

Interactive displays (Main Learning Displays) Main Learning Displays (MLDs) are large displays that are fully interactive, meaning they are like a big touch screen computer.

Your questions answered! MLD features: • M LDs come in 3 sizes 65 inches, 75 inches and 86 inches. Each suited to different learning spaces, bigger is not always better, see the learning scenarios for more information. Get a friend and a tape measure to better understand size! • E ach MLD is equipped with a T4L mini computer (MLD PC) that runs Windows 10 just like a notebook.

Can I use it as a whiteboard? Yes, Microsoft Whiteboard is built into Windows 10 on your MLD PC. With loads of colours to choose from, stencils, stickers and more, your old whiteboard just got a whole new wardrobe. What about screen sharing? Yes you can! Using the inbuilt Windows 10 Screen sharing software on your MLD PC or AirServer screen sharing software, you can wirelessly share your screen or a students screen directly to the MLD!

• A ll MLDs as part of the Rural Access Gap Infrastructure Rollout are mobile, meaning you can change the focal point of the teaching and learning in your classroom. Schools for Specific Purposes and Support Unit Learning Spaces will have a solution that is most appropriate for their needs.

Is my display the same as a big TV?

• A ll MLDs are able to access the internet wirelessly, however access to power is essential, make sure you select the right size to fit in a location close to a power supply!

Device Management:

User scenario We need a display for our library space! This space is often used by large groups for presentations, year assemblies and guest speakers.

User scenario We have open plan learning spaces that accommodate 2 classes (2 x General Learning Spaces), we need a screen that is not too big to take over the space, but big enough when we want to gather everyone together for the one activity!

User scenario We have a large number of typical breakout homebase rooms that need a workhorse display to boost interactive digital learning!

We wanted the largest display for this space, so the 86 inch MLD suits our needs perfectly and means everyone can participate in the action. The integrated webcam also means we can use this MLD to beam in experts and interact with people across the globe.

The 75 inch MLD is on spec for this scenario! It is small enough to move easily yet provides a generous focal point when we combine classes. Plus the interactive features are a bonus for interactive classroom experiences. Being two registered learning spaces we received 2 x 75 inch MLDs, providing even more flexibility. In our single general learning spaces / homebases we have also opted for the 75 inch MLD.

Being compact, yet packed with features, the 65 inch MLD is a perfect addition to our homebases. Plus, we are excited by the potential of screen sharing, which means we can present from anywhere using our teacher device wirelessly!
