Josh Byrne – Guest Curator Josh is an environmental scientist, gardener, TV presenter, author and research academic. Best known for his role as the WA presenter on ABC TV’s Gardening Australia program, he is also Director of Josh Byrne & Associates, a consulting practice integrating the fields of landscape architecture and built environment sustainability with offices in Fremantle and Melbourne. Josh is a Research Fellow at Curtin University where he has led national research projects in high performance housing and low carbon residential precincts. His wider research interests include water sensitive design and sustainable urban development. He has authored a number of academic publications in these fields, in addition to industry guidelines and popular books. Josh is Patron for the Conservation Council of WA and a TEDxPerth alumnus.
Rob Lines – Curator Rob is TEDxPerth’s Director of Curation and has been volunteering with TEDxPerth since 2014. He works with a team of dedicated and talented volunteer Curators across all TEDxPerth events. Despite a degree in Computer Science and Physics, Rob’s career has been in theatre. He’s worked in the UK and Australia, managing regional theatres, touring culturally diverse theatre and dance around the world and, as Producer, a digital theatre company. Rob is the Manager of the public theatres and venues of the University of Western Australia.

Martin Anda Martin is an environmental engineer with over 30 years experience in the water, energy and built environment sectors. In 2007 he launched Murdoch University’s Environmental Engineering degree program where he is Academic Chair and Senior Lecturer in Environmental Engineering, where he teaches on transition to a post-carbon society. He regularly chairs international conferences in Perth including the World Renewable Energy Congress. In 2016 Martin was awarded the Pioneer Award from the World Renewable Energy Network for his services to renewable energy industries. He recently completed building his new solar home in the innovative new subdivision WGV in Fremantle. While an enthusiastic cyclist his next big financial challenge is transitioning from ICE to EV.
Colin Ashton-Graham Colin is a Behavioural Economist with almost thirty years experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of sustainability behaviour change interventions. He has applied these skills to infrastructure and service planning in the transport sector and to demand management of water, energy, waste, garden nutrients (river health), physical activity (population health), household waste and transport. Colin’s recent work includes the Technical Lead on behaviour change programs in Western Australia for the Water Corporation, Plastic Free Foundation, Parks and Wildlife, Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Transport, Sport and Recreation and many Local Government Authorities.
Rebecca Prince Ruiz Rebecca is passionate about behaviour change and helping communities address the growing plastic waste issue. She is the Executive Director of the ‘for-purpose’ Plastic Free Foundation, a notfor-profit organisation that brings the public and business together with the vision of a world without plastic waste. While raising awareness is essential, it’s only the first step; people want to be part of the solution. Rebecca has 25 years experience in environmental and waste management, community engagement, and sustainability behaviour change. She has consulted to the Western Australian government on community consultation and engagement on single-use plastics and the lightweight plastic bag ban, is a member of the Waste Reform Advisory Group established by the Environment Minister and a Director of WA Return, Recycle, Renew, the scheme coordinator for the introduction of the Container Deposit Scheme in WA in 2020.
Amy Warne Amy started her working life in the Tax Office before embarking on a career in waste education. Amy’s passion is composting and gardening, and she has been a committee member of Hilton Harvest Community Garden for ten years and now works as a Farmer at North Fremantle Social Farm. Through work and volunteering Amy has been involved in Living Smart, Earth Carers, Sustainable House Day, Plastic Free July, Earth Hour, and Save Beeliar Wetlands. Amy grew up in country WA and now lives in a retrofitted suburban house with her family in Hamilton Hill.
Sustainability Partner Cundall is an international, multi-disciplinary consultancy operating from over 20 locations across the globe. Cundall provides professional services from business level strategy and governance to building performance and design. Driven by the consideration of people, design, environment, economics and technology, Cundall has proven that sustainability and commercial pragmatism are not mutually exclusive, but are inextricably linked. Cundall’s Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide offices are certified carbon neutral under the Australian Government’s National Carbon Offset Standard. Cundall is targeting zero carbon for their global business by 2020, with the Australian offices the first to achieve this.
Drink Partners Cullen Wines is the first winery in Australia to be officially certified carbon neutral. Cullen Wines have been voluntarily offsetting their carbon emissions since 2006, buying credits almost exclusively for projects in WA which focus on pulling carbon emissions out of the atmosphere. Over the past nine years, Cullen have been responsible for 3921 tonnes of CO2 offset through reforestation carbon sinks, and the planting of 1705 native trees and shrubs. In 2010 the Carbon Reduction Institute said Cullen Wines had a “powerful case for demonstrating leadership to other wineries to take action to combat climate change”. Taking on a life of its own, Atomic Pale Ale left the Gage Roads line up and took on a new role as the core range of the Atomic Beer Project. In late February 2020 they will be opening their first brew pub championing the Atomic Beer Project, giving a place to experiment and push the boundaries with hop driven ales. www.atomic.beer
