Assignment 1-3
Furniture Design module has taught me a lot on designing various types of furniture/ devices creatively, different from the conventional ways that I have been trained in the past semesters. Since Assignment 1 was about drawing out joineries and connections of daily objects around us, I was able to have fun researching the types of assembly and sketch it out in my own style to make a compiled sketchbook. Meanwhile, Assignment 2 has given us the opportunity to work in a group of 2, where my friend and I not only learn how to cooperate with each other as a team, we also learn how to balance functionality with aesthetics when designing a furniture for a company to put on sales on their online shopping site. It was the first time that we delved into the kids furniture designing and we learnt that there're actually more restrictions when it comes to children due to safety considerations.
In my opinion, Assignment 3 was the most interesting assignment out of these 3. In this assignment, we are allowed to be wild and imaginative while interpreting our very own selected invisible city story. Brainstorming process was fun as it was up to us to define the theme for the city and identifying the keywords found in the text to serve as our inspirations for the furniture or device design. I felt a great sense of achievement while flipping through the sketchbook that I've compiled as I see the development of ideas grow from mere texts to envisioning the city, defining the occupants' resting behaviors to designing a resting device that will suit the characters. Last but not least, I'd like to thank my lecturers: Ms. Suzy, Ms. Aishah and Mr. Redwan for being patient and considerate throughout the semester in conducting various lectures and informative tutorials to help us during our learning process.
