Ed's Note LOVING THIS MONTH:
Goodbye 2015, hello 2016! Time really flies when you’re having fun. In a blink of an eye, it’s 2016 and the start of my second year with Teenage! In the spirit of the New Year, we’ve
put together an issue that celebrates
renewals and fresh starts. For many of you who left resolutions on your 2015 list unchecked, we give
Pantone just announced their ‘Colour of the Year’ and it turned out to be two colours for 2016 – Rose Quartz and Serenity. We’re expecting everything from mobile phone covers, notebooks, bags and shoes to have them as a colourway this year, but Clinique is already way ahead of the game. Their signature Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes ($26) comes in Big Blue and Pink & Plenty – gorgeous pastel shades you can wear every day.
you suggestions on how you can set
achievable goals for 2016 (p. 76), and let you in on the resolutions that the
Teenage team hopes to achieve this year.
Revamp your wardrobe with some cool new kicks (p. 46) for school, and
maybe even double up your pencil case as a makeup pouch (p. 36) for quick touch-ups in between classes. Get ready to mark your calendars,
‘cause we’ve also listed all the movie
blockbusters (p. 62) you can look
forward to this year. Watch this space as we dish out the deets on them closer to their premiere date. Remember to check out Passport
to the Future for your comprehensive guide to tertiary education. Even if you’re a few years away from taking your ‘O’ Levels, it doesn’t hurt to find out more so that you can get ready when the
time comes.
Here’s to a successful year ahead!

Your Say
Hi Teenage!!
Love, New Teenage fan :)
15
Congratulations! Your letter has been picked as our ‘Letter of the Month’!
2
You could check out museums and art centres. A random visit could develop into a passion for the arts. There are many interesting things on display.
3
Spend a day at the Botanic Gardens. Attend outdoor concerts if they are scheduled. They are free.
Gardens by the Bay is a veritable
wonderland during the Christmas season. It won’t be a disappointment if last year’s spectacular visual spectacle is anything to go by.
4
If you are musically inclined, get together with similarly talented friends and form a musical group so you can sing a variety of songs that suit your singing style. Jamming sessions can be so interesting and could develop into a life-long passion.
A walk down Orchard Road when the streets are lit for the Christmas season is always exciting. Check out dates, times and what activities are scheduled.
7
If you are going on a family vacation, remember to photograph interesting sights to share with family and friends. Please look around you, enjoy the
experience and soak up the atmosphere. Send comments and
photos when you return to the hotel.
8
Make your own greeting cards. Today, everyone with the
aid of the computer, can be a design whiz. Teamwork – if you are good at art, team up with someone good with words. Innovative greeting cards can be created this way.
9
Do a good deed – if you have elderly relatives or neighbours
offer to help them spruce up their house.
10
Do research on the dangers of drugs, smoking and underage drinking.
Here’s what you should say NO to during the holidays:
DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM YOU WISH TO SHARE? SOMETHING TO GET OFF YOUR CHEST? Kelly’s responses take into account age, experience and needs of writers. Those writing in know and seek her tough love, nononsense approach. Readers wanting a different type of response should seek advice elsewhere. Older and more experienced readers knowing the answers to questions need to exercise patience. Not everyone knows what you know.
been molested or raped when under the influence of alcohol. No drunk driving ever!
2
Say NO to drugs – no one
should have the power to encourage you to take drugs. You just say no! If you are at a party, never
leave your drink unattended.
Someone from your group must see that nothing is slipped into the drinks of friends.
3
Say NO to taking that first
After qualifying as a teacher, Kelly Chopard went on to attend several counselling courses. Over the past 30 years, she has been invited to sit on panels and discussion groups, give talks and has taught modules dealing with youth issues. She counsels primary and secondary school pupils. She also engages in parent-pupil counselling sessions. In the 1970s, she was a member of a People’s Association Team counselling young adults in areas like drugs, smoking and other health and social issues. From 1979 to 1983 she had a counselling column in a local woman’s magazine. Since 1996 she has been responding to Teenage readers in her Dear Kelly column.
cigarette – no matter how many people tempt you. Frankly, with all the medical research available and the graphic warnings on cigarette packets, it is foolish to smoke.
Smoking is not cool!
4
Say NO to sex! Many teenage
girls have had their first sexual encounter at unsupervised year-end parties and have lived to regret it. Some had first been plied with liquor or had a drug slipped into their drink.
Don’t accept any invitations from guys you recently met.
IMPORTANT
If invited, say you’d like to bring a friend along. Double dating is safer.
Here’s wishing all Teenage readers a happy holiday and blessings to you and your family.
When writing to me through mail, state your Full Name, Age, I.C. No.,Telephone No., Gender and Pseudonym. There is no length restriction. Send your letters to: Dear Kelly, Teenage Magazine, 20 Bedok South Road, Singapore 469277 or via email at:

Dear Aunty Kelly, I can’t afford to buy Teenage. I am lucky my friend lent me her copy. She said I should tell you about my problem because you will give me good advice. I feel embarrassed but she said, “Nobody will know who you are.” Okay, this is my problem.
My father lost his job because the company closed down. It is hard for him to find another job because he is over 40 years of age. We are very worried as the savings father has is becoming very low. Mother is a housewife. I find part-time work during the holidays and give what I earn to mother for food.
I find part-time work during the holidays and give what I earn to mother for food.
Grandmother stays with us. Luckily, the government helps to pay for her medicine.
I am very worried because our happy home is now quiet and everyone looks worried.
No one is laughing and joking anymore. What do you think we can do? Thank you very much & God bless. From: Afraid
Kelly: I am very glad your friend convinced you to write to me. I promise no one will know your identity except me. You have nothing to be “embarrassed” about. You are lucky to
have a loyal friend. Make her a little card to thank her for sharing Teenage with you. Your parents should approach the principal so you can get pocket money, and there are provisions for books, uniforms, transport etc for students just like you. I recently helped a single mother fill in forms requesting financial assistance for her two teenagers. She said the viceprincipal was helpful.
124
Based on your name, I am pleased to inform you that your community has a support system to help children like you, including free tuition.
Also, please tell your parents to go to the ‘Meet-the-People Session’ in your area and speak to your grassroots leaders.
Help is at hand. Say hello to your friend for me. God bless you too.
125
And thank you Kelly for your time and effort, you’ve helped countless teenagers. It’s kind of depressing when teens like us can’t find anyone to relate to. But you helped us to solve our problems. Thanks to whoever decided on putting One Direction on the cover! I love you and it’s amazing. Lots of love, Dean Dear Teenage, I have been reading Teenage magazine since January. Ever since then I’ve been waiting every month for it. I love your articles about Taylor Swift and the Dear Kelly section is super interesting too. Tuckshop

The Munchies Waffles ($18.90), which comes with two scoops of ice cream, whipped cream and milk chocolate ganache, is our favourite kind of sinful.
This specialty chocolate bar is a dream come true – there’s something for everyone, even for the most anti-chocolate of folks. Serving up various renditions of the ubiquitous confectionery, Max Brenner has a sound rep for its sensual pastries and creamy fondues. You won’t be able to resist the Melting Heart Cake and Shake ($18), an artistic platter of dark fudge cake that oozes chocolate lava, and the Classic European Fondue ($25.90), served with three towers of chocolate sauce and a small personal grill. While waiting, nest a hot cup of Italian Thick Hot Chocolate ($7.90) in your hands; or DIY your own concentrated shot with Suckao ($7.90).

Max Brenner’s Chocolate Chunks Pizza ($12 for half) is out to give cheese a run for its money. It’s topped with a generous amount of marshmallows that melt into a glorious goo when you bite into it.

Amidst the row of huge chain stores at Millenia Walk is a quiet, down-to-earth eatery that speaks of seductive sweet treats. Patisserie G doles out delicate pieces of gateaux that almost look too good to eat – timeless favourites include Chocolate Caramel Tart ($7.50) and Bomb Cerise ($9.50). But here’s the real deal: dark chocolate mousse, chocolate meringue and chocolate hazelnut praline crunch moulded into a dome of sugary bliss known as The G Spot ($9). Aside from confectioneries, they do a brisk trade in brunch specialties like croissants, sandwiches and danishes too.
Y! -TR ST
Tuck into a heart-warming pot of Eggs Cocotte ($17). This humble dish of eggs poached over a bed of smoked salmon is the stuff of breakfast dreams.
Famous enough to host customers like Coco Chanel and Marcel Proust, this 112-year-old Parisian tea house has made its way to Capitol Piazza early this year. An exquisite space filled with posh furnishings, you’ll be treated like royalty as formally-dressed waiters serve you Angelina’s indulgent chocolate delights. Regulars would make a beeline for the Mont-Blanc ($14), a fine mix of meringue, whipped cream and chestnut paste vermicelli, while sipping a cup of African Hot Chocolate ($12). Also worth trying is the newly-launched Negresco, a dollop of dark chocolate shavings and cocoa powder that melts sinfully in your mouth.
23
There are also stories about food, popular apps to use and giveaways. Hope to see more of BIGBANG too (especially G-Dragon)! Love, Leelynn

How pretty is this? Flore ($13) combines fresh notes of raspberry, vanilla and white chocolate mousse into a rose bud-like beauty. A pity it will only be available till January next year…

I really like the Taylor Swift poster included in the magazine but my father does not allow me to hang up posters on my bedroom walls. At least I’ll know my bookshelf will look better in the future with more issues of Teenage! I’m a fan of the anime Attack on Titan, so it was interesting to know more about the actors in the film adaptation in ‘The Screen Titans’. Even my mum enjoyed the magazine! She has been hunting for good beautifying apps so the app recommendations came at the perfect timing. I have been searching for more photo editing apps (I already have Picsart) to edit pictures for my Instagram so it was a great timing for me as well. My mum also enjoyed the beauty products recommendations. Keep up the fantastic work, Teenage!
DearKelly Dear readers, Most of you have spent the year studying hard. Many have devoted time to CCA, which is often time-consuming.

Holler at us! We want to know what you think of Teenage, how our stories make a difference in your life, and where we can improve. Here’s how!
When I saw Taylor Swift on the cover of your November issue, I swiped the magazine off the shelf and bought it immediately. After I browsed through it, what caught my eye was the Dear Kelly section featured on the cover page. Since I have never bought Teenage before, I didn’t know what it was about. I was curious and read it first and was surprised when I found out it was an advice column as I rarely see those around. When I read about the problems of some teens, I cried a bit as they were just so sad. I cried more when I read Kelly’s responses to them. It felt assuring that there was an adult who cared for them despite only knowing them through a single letter.
M
Dear Teenage,
It’s my first time writing to you. Thank you for the amazing design and layout that you guys did! It’s so great that I can’t take my eyes of it!

It’s safe to say we have a new-found respect for 3D latte art after a visit to Atmosphere Cafe & Bistro. Chief Barista Serene does some darn good flat draw art (just look at how cute this Totoro x Teenage cuppa is!), but if you prefer something fancy, she’ll be glad to whip up these utterly adorable foam sculptures for you. And it only costs an extra dollar on top of your coffee. We had a hard time convincing ourselves to sip up these masterpieces – it’s not every day we get coffee that looks this good!

Never mind if you’re underage or simply a teetotaller, And Why has mocktails that are totally hangoverfree and super pretty to boot. Located along Kampong Glam, this Halal cafe whisks you back to early ’90s New York (it’s pronounced ‘NY’ for a reason), with waiters decked out in a suave vest and fedora hat to serve you their exotic blends. For the sweet tooth, go for Mad About Dolce ($6.90), an indulgent mix of hazelnut with chocolate flakes and roasted marshmallows. Other popular options include Mademoiselle, Full Passion and Elder Mint Tea ($7.90 each), but there’s a secret behind these drinks: they come with edible flowers and glitter. Say what?

Somehow, time seems to move a lil’ slower when you step into this hole-inthe-wall coffee nook, tucked away at a small corner of Emerald Garden condo. It’s cosy and intimate, with baristas who know their regulars well enough to memorise their usual orders. Stamping Ground Coffee has the art of coffee down to a T, specialising in grab-and-go espresso-based double shots (from $4) and punchy cold brew (from $6) packaged in uber-fancy beer bottles. For non-caffeine drinkers, they also offer friendly alternatives like Chia Seed Honey Yuzu ($6), Almond Nutmilk ($8) and Chia Seed Pomegranate ($6).

Unicorn potion made from tears of joy? Cold brew with swirls of gold dust that originate from the laughter of children and the dreams of kittens? Drinkable jelly that changes colour? We’re not sure what kind of witchcraft goes into these hipster-esque concoctions, but we’re certainly diggin’ it. If you’re up for surprises, request for the mystery drink of the day – we don’t know what magic they’ll perform, but you have our word that it will be awesome anyway. Don’t worry, according to the folks at Dapper Coffee, no mythical creatures were harmed in the making of these beverages.

ailing from Changmai, Thailand, Potato is a well-loved pop-rock band that has withstood make-orbreak obstacles throughout their 14-year career, including a tragic death, member departures etc. If you’re new to Potato’s discography (or Thai songs in general), we recommend at least a listen to older hits like, ‘Do You Still…?’, and ‘An Unprotected True Love’, plus newer ones like ‘Balance’ and ‘You Go Your Way’.

Pup: ‘Balance’. Everything in this world is straightforward, including humans. It’s about accepting our differences and weaknesses. Having more acceptance makes everyone more tolerant, and the world a better place to live in.
If you could be president of the wor ld for a day, what would you do? Pup: If I could
What were your first impressions of each other? Kan: My first
impression of Pup was that he is indeed very handsome. He’s someone I’ve idolised during my teenaged years, and I looked forward to meeting him. Pup: We met Kan when he was playing the drums elsewhere, and I decided that he might’ve been a bit immature. (Laughs) He didn’t have any tattoos or facial hair back then, and he looked quite feminine with his long hair…
Which song off your discography can you guys relate to the most? Hang: It would have to be ‘Old Moon’.
It speaks about people who have been left behind, those who have been overlooked, and talks about how one should turn back and care for themselves and their own heart.
music and our listeners – there needs to be artiste influences, but at the same time, the music has to stay relatable to the emotions of the audience. It is difficult striking a balance between the two at times.
What do you appreciate most about your band members? Kan: As the youngest member,
everyone has been like an older brother to me. I really like that they give leeway to me, so when I make a mistake, they forgive me and let it slide. (Laughs) Pup: I don’t necessarily play an instrument, but I like that everyone still takes my opinions into consideration, as someone who is delivering the same kind of music and emotions to the audience.
What has been your greatest challenge as a band? Pup: The most difficult aspect is
maintaining a balance between the

do anything, I would gather all the scientists in the world to do research on everything about the universe, and to find out the purpose of mankind. It’ll be a quick way to get answers, as there are a lot of knowledgeable people working together. (Laughs) Kan : I would like to mandate that everyone should reveal any information or secrets that they know about Area 51. We are a nerdy band…
What’s a piece of advice you’d give your teenage self? Hang: To avoid feeling privileged and
demand something back from society. Rather, adopt an attitude to give back [to society]. It’s easier to change yourself, than the world. Kan : I’ll tell myself to believe and seek the advice of my elders. When I was young, I was quite rebellious and I didn’t really listen to what the adults had to say.
W
e’re guessing this trio needs no introduction: a Korean hip-hop outfit whose music is easily appreciated by folks from all over, Epik High was one of our earliest listens in K-music. Coincidentally, these music maestros have also had their share of difficult hiccups throughout their long history. But thankfully, Epik High has sailed through all those and is continuing to make epic music today. If you haven’t already, check out ‘Fly’, ‘Up’, ‘Don’t Hate Me’, and ‘Born Hater’.
What motivates you to create music together? Tablo: We’ve been together for a
very long time, but we’re able to stay together and not hate each other because we respect our differences. We fight and make fun of each other a lot, and I think that’s what keeps us together, because we’re basically just like any other group of friends.
What were the challenges back in the ear ly days? Tablo: When we started, most people in
Korea didn’t really know what was hiphop. We have a DJ in our team and when we first started performing, we had to explain what we were doing before they allowed us to hook up any of the
DJ equipment. I think he was the first person to actually perform DJ-ing live on TV in Korea. That was difficult, but once people caught on, I think the whole ride was very enjoyable. Till the moment you break out, I think all musicians have a very difficult time getting noticed or getting a fan base. That takes a lot of work and a lot of luck. I think everyone struggles pretty much the same, but what makes it beautiful is if you do make it and you learn to be grateful for it.
Epik High has a very cool image, but what are some moments you’ve felt the most uncool? DJ Tukutz: Well, when I call someone and that person doesn’t pick up. And when I call a second time, and they don’t pick up again. I’ll [wonder if] that person is angry with me?
If your life story were a movie, who would you choose to play you? Mithra Jin : Leonardo DiCaprio. DJ Tukutz: Samuel L. Jackson. Tablo: Does it have to be human?
I would be a dog, like Toto from Wizard of Oz. It’ll be an animal movie – I’d like to be a Bichon Frisé, Tukutz would probably be just any breed of dog (laughs), and Mithra would be a bear. I really love animal movies.
Epik High
If you could be president of the wor ld for a day, what would you do? Tablo: If I could do that, I would do two
things. First, I would free all the animals. Then I would make everybody buy an Epik High CD, and I would retire the next day. Like, ‘I am out! I’m done – for life!’ Then I’ll go party with the animals, riding the horses, running with the deer, and swimming with the fish...
If you could hang out with Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift for a day, who would you pick and why? Tablo: Do I have to do one entire day? Mithra Jin : Justin Bieber
(Tablo: Why?). DJ Tukutz: Taylor Swift (Tablo: because she’s his type). Tablo: I’d rather hang out with a beaver. I like animals! And what I’d do with [the beaver] is to go find some water near the forest, and make a home for the beaver together. But I’d make it a beautiful home, like a big mansion.
If you guys were stuck on a deser ted island, who would you bring? Tablo: I know who I would take... the
beaver [from earlier]. It will cut the trees [with its teeth] and it’ll build a treehouse with me. The beaver could make a fire by biting on the wood really fast, and since it can swim, I’ll hold onto it and he could swim me back home! I have the perfect friend. It’s like having a living breathing Swiss Army knife. Tukutz and Mithra Jin : Barack Obama. If the president of the US is around, somehow we will get out. Or Justin Bieber. Scooter Braun would come and save him. Tablo: I’m screwed. You guys are gonna have helicopters and aeroplanes to pick you up, but it’s just going to be me... and my beaver.

Purpose

A Head Full Of Dreams
Justin Bieber
Adele
Coldplay
We were pretty skeptical about what Justin Bieber would bring to the table with Purpose, seeing as it’s been three long years since his last album, in which he occupied himself with reputationwrecking shenanigans. But we gotta admit, not only has he cleaned up his image – Biebs has managed to deliver a solid R&B slash EDM record, that’s filled with emotionally raw tunes like ‘I’ll Show You’ and ‘Life Is Worth Living’, and catchy-as-hell songs like ‘What Do You Mean?’ and ‘Love Yourself’. Our fave track however, is ‘The Feeling’, a dreamy electropop duet with breakout singer Halsey. We’re not quite Beliebers yet, but Purpose has tilted us ever so slightly in that direction.
Rumour had it (lol) that Adele’s thenupcoming record was enough for major artistes like One Direction, and Justin Bieber to push up their album release dates to avoid clashing with the music heavyweight. And wisely so – 25 has since become 2015’s top album despite only being released in late November, and sold over 3.8 million copies in its first week. Despite critical comments on how 25 dully continues the similar theme of heartbreak on her previous hit album, 21, we beg to differ. There’s always gonna be a time where we’ll need heartwrenching and emotion-filled tunes, and Adele’s 25 provides that perfect musical therapy.
Into their seventh record, this Britishrock band can pretty much do whatever they want. Which includes pulling some strong strings for A Head Full Of Dreams, roping in collabs with Beyoncé, Tove Lo, frontman Chris Martin’s ex Gwyneth Paltrow, and even a voice sample of US President Barack Obama. And we adore how this album embraces an upbeat exuberance that Coldplay had abandoned in 2014’s Ghost Stories. Plus, there’s something for everyone, from uncharacteristic disco-thumpers like ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’, to the refreshing ‘Fun’, to the ruminative ‘Everglow’. Great for spreading some (mostly) positive vibes!

Beneath The Skin
MADE SERIES
Taeyeon
Of Monsters And Men
BigBang
The first of Girls’ Generation to debut with a solo effort, kid leader Taeyeon pleasantly surprises with I. Her debut mini-album is filled with a myriad of musical styles that aptly showcases her strong vocals while engaging listeners from its first beat. From the heartfelt ballad, ‘Farewell’, to head-bopping earworm ‘Stress’, to our personal favourite, ‘I’, Taeyeon pulls off a more alt-rock sound as compared to the straight up pop that Girls’ Generation is firmly planted in. It’s undeniable that this songstress has way more potential than she’s been letting on, and we can’t wait to hear her future works.
Following their tried-and-true formula, Of Monsters And Men delivers their second album Beneath The Skin, a slow-tempo record filled with intense drumbeats, swelling guitar riffs, and haunting vocals. Despite the similar theme between this album and their previous, the band takes it a notch darker, weaving in brooding lyrics that shows off their musical and emotional depth. Admittedly, Beneath The Skin wouldn’t impress as much in track-bytrack scenarios, this album strikes us as lacking in discernible factors, and is better heard as a whole.
What can we say about BIGBANG’s MADE Series that hasn’t already been said? Constantly at the forefront of the K-music scene, it’s amazing how BIGBANG was able to surpass even themselves, managing a well-balanced mix of their signature head-bangers and surprisingly sentimental tracks. The only pity is that BIGBANG was scheduled to release a full-length MADE album after this series, but it’s currently nowhere in sight (at time of print). Till then, we’ve gotta satisfy ourselves with the eargasmic treats that are the MADE Series.

DearKelly Dear readers, This month we will look at boredom. Recently, an article published on Yahoo! Singapore, highlighted a survey conducted by MTV Asia which focused on those aged 12 to 24 from 26 countries. 97 per cent of the 15,000 surveyed admitted to being bored. Even more shocking was the fact that two-thirds admitted to experiencing boredom on a weekly basis whereas almost a quarter admitted to feeling bored daily.
Some important facts emerged: Of the 26 countries involved, young Malaysians were found to be the most bored at 89 per cent. There was a tie between Britain and Brazil at 79 per cent followed by 78 per cent
activities they engaged in – and get this – even more boring than going to school and doing homework. I quote Kerry Taylor, head of MTV International: “The results surprised us – given this generation’s access to technology and a seemingly limitless range of content, we thought boredom might barely exist for youth.” I asked teenagers what they use their gadgets for. Most said to play games, watch movies, chat and send photos to friends. Many said they often wrote what was not true because they made everything look better than it is. Why? To make friends jealous.
Many said they were bored and admitted they browsed aimlessly with no idea what to look for. Some discovered pornography this way.
of Singaporean youths who admitted they were bored.
Let’s read what was reported: • With the rapid increase in the availability and prevalence of electronic devices, many thought that the youth have access to an enormous variety of content and social media outlets. • The MTV Asia survey revealed that the average teenager possesses up to six connected devices and is able to access great amounts of information. Unfortunately, this overload of possibilities may be the cause of boredom. Concerned adults including parents, teachers and those engaging with youth would be alarmed to discover that 47 per
cent of participants admitted they browsed the Internet for no particular reason and indicated it was one of the most boring
Maybe courses should be run to guide students so they will be more saavy when looking for information online.
What is boredom? It is defined as a state of feeling bored. Bored people are often listless and lethargic.
The 5 types of boredom: Thomas Goetz, an educational psychologist explains how they differ from each other.
1
Indifference – in this type of boredom, people appear to be calm, relaxed and stay on the sideline. They don’t get involved in the activity whether it is conversation, work or projects.
2
Apathy (showing a lack of concern or interest) – this type
of boredom was the subject of a recent
92
study based on university and high school students in the US. The study revealed that sufferers experienced something like “helplessness that could lead to depression”. At least 36 per cent of high school students reported it. They don’t seem to be excited by activities.
3
Calibrating – people with this type of boredom tend to experience
wandering thoughts and they wish to do something other than what they are involved in at the moment. We see this in people doing
repetitive tasks. They want a change but don’t know how to bring about change.
4
Reactant – this type of boredom is
considered the worst. People in this category are highly stimulated and
have lots of negative emotions. They show signs of aggression and restlessness. Such people want to leave the ‘dull’ place they feel they are in, and run from the people they blame for their boredom including parents and teachers.
They waste time daydreaming of situations they’d rather be in that they imagine would be better than where they are at present.
5
Searching – people experiencing this type of boredom have negative
feelings and an unpleasant gloomy restlessness. They spend
their time focusing on what they imagine would be more interesting. But nothing seems to interest them. If you find yourself in one of these five categories, please speak to a counsellor. Always here for you.

Suicidal… bored… I want to change… Dear Kelly, I have been reading your strict advice for many years. I used to do well in primary school and was fortunate to go to a good secondary school. My parents were very happy. I was proud of myself and enjoyed all the praises I got from family and friends after my PSLE results. That was at the end of 2014. I found primary school very easy and scored high marks with very little effort. I did well in English and I speak well, which is useful. I was chosen to make the farewell speech for the primary 6 graduating class. Classmates looked up to me. I was always appointed group leader and many friends accompanied me, in and out of school. I am writing this in 2015. Everything has changed. Somehow the lessons seem so hard. I have so much to learn and there are regular tests and projects to do. Now I am at the bottom of the class. Only one guy talks to me because he too is at the bottom of the class.
I feel humiliated. I am ignored. Secondary school is boring!
The problem is that at the beginning of secondary 1, I used the minimum study method I used in primary school.
The result was I failed my first test in February 2015. I was shocked. My parents were very upset.
I promised to do better.
93
Instead I gave up, stopped listening to the teachers and soon became very bored. My teacher warned me that if I “did not submit my homework I would be sent to the discipline master”. So I started
to skip school and my only friend joined me. We went to play electronic games, watched many movies and ate a lot thanks to a big allowance from my parents. When I do go to school, I am so bored. I draw during lessons, and wrap my hand in a bandage before tests and say I can’t write or claim to be ill. When the report card is shown to my parents, I say I had a migraine.
I have become a great liar! I have grown really fat with all the eating. I am starting to hate myself and have thought about killing myself as things have gone horribly wrong in my life.
