Program Description:

The Experiences in Architecture (EiA) program at the Catholic University of America is a precollege workshop for students interested in architecture or other design-related fields.

Students are exposed to both the academic and professional sides of the architectural arena, as the city of Washington, D.C., becomes their classroom.

The Experiences in Architecture program prepares students for architecture school, giving students a head start, as well as acquainting them with campus life at the university level.

Program Overview:

Students spend mornings exploring the city, architecture and meeting professionals and special docent tours at museums and monuments in the nation’s capital, afternoons are spent in the studio learning to draw and model by hand. An optional third week is available for those who want to pursue digital modeling, rendering and drawing. Students work in small groups of five to seven with an experienced instructor, developing skills and presentation techniques.

Evenings and weekends include opportunities to further acquaint oneself with the city, nature, sports and local culture (movies on the Mall, national parks, theater and more). Residents live on campus and have dining service included in the cost.

Both tuition costs include a tool kit, so students do not need to purchase materials. The resident cost also includes room and board, and three meals a day at the dining facilities.
