ORNARE. Ornamentation and its Articulation in Interior Realm
Introduction to Studio: • The studio focuses on ‘design’ role of ornamentation in the interior realm. The studio will investigate the definitions, notions, and theories of Ornamentation and its influence on the design process. • To Evaluate the necessary approaches of making and construction, that can be studied with the idea of ornamentation and its related processes. • To utilize ornamentation in the given syntaxes such as materiality and construction of elements, functional and structural attributes of a system, form, and material, etc. for the various spatial interventions in interior space. • Derive the relationship between ornamentation and function - construction - aesthetics of interior design practices = ornamented articulation in interior realm
Oranre: Ornamentation and its Articulation in Interior Realm
Brief Outline: The studio will focus on ornamentation as a medium to represent syntax between the use of color, texture, and the visual qualities inherent in material and structure to articulate the interior elements to generate ornamentation with the notion of functionalism. The ornament has resurfaced with its new identity of being functional, structural, and aesthetical. The interior project is served by digital means, advanced material, construction techniques, modern expression, and abstract ideas achieving the purpose of functionality. The studio will be conducted through reinterpreting the tools and approaches to create ornamentation which executes new concepts and metaphors of the space formation process.
Learning Outcomes: The students will develop the ability to experiment, explore, and generative methods to fabricate an interior design project that represents the visual and tactile outcome of ornamentation. Students will learn to develop and explore ‘ornamentation’ through research, inference, and representation in 2D and 3D mediums. Students will learn to develop an experimental attitude to apply explorative and generative approaches for developing ornamentation for the given context through a scaled outcome in a contemporary program requirement. Students will learn to test and resolve the conceptualization of the newer design positions and newer design approaches for ornamentation to be a complex system for design development processes. Students will learn to formulate a design process and use it in generating a design with various spatial complexities. The students will be able to build an interior system as an ornated space that learns to synthesize interior design issues of the activities, users, and services.

OVER VIEW PROJECT TYPE: Cultural LOCATION : Pittusbrgh, USA AREA : 504 Sq mts YEAR : 2020 ARCHITECTS : FreelandBuck Over Viewis a three-dimensional drawing of the space it occupies, the central lobby of the former Carnegie Library space, in its original state. building renovation in the 1970s. “The intricacy of the original ceiling allowed us to create a dense cloud of lines overhead while clearly evoking the ornamental style of the original building,”.
Like Renaissance-era trompe l’oeil ceilings, O ver View uses the illusionary depth of perspective to create spaces beyond the existing architecture. Standing at the center of the room, the intricately patterned original ceiling can be seen projecting upward away from you. From other points of view, the installation becomes an abstract pattern of lines projecting down toward the floor.
The 34-foot x 38-foot installation, made of printed and cut textile suspended over an aluminum frame, depicts a leaded glass ceiling that once enclosed the room before it was removed during a p r e v i o u s accident.

BRAND IDENTITY INTERPRETATION The definition of beauty given by ELC which is: to be tender and wise, delicate and graceful. The pureness of the acrylic cube tolerated and included everything. It also went well with the theme of the ELC CIIE II: Made of prestige.
ESTEE Lauder’s pavilion in China’s CIEE. The acylic panels gradually form a taller opening as a welcome element. On closer inspection, the lower transparent panels are seen.
The structural steel columns are kept away form the corners to provide a seamless transition
The acrylic material is used to bring about the branding, to create distinction it is lit u with a lavender light. For each singular brand the same principles are used as shown in the images below.
The central focal point of the pavilion, changes colours to depict its association with all of its brands.
The sections of the translucent acrylic fins get larger from bottom to top. When people move through the pavilion, they would experience the change of the lights and shadows of the bottom part of the acrylic walls along with the variety of shapes and sizes of the upper part at the same time. The atmosphere is dynamic throughout.
The structural steel columns that are taking the load are concealed along the curvature of the panels’ trajectory
Different types of Flooring (for example : wooden, carpeted, patterened) a r e employed to creeate segregation
“One can feel open and shining as if he was in a crystal garden in one moment, and feel narrow and serene as if he was in a deep forest when turns a corner.” Emphasis is brought to the island desks by the use of colour i.e. black. The Ceiling being dark provides a background for the ornamentation to shine through.

FRAME China Office PROJECT TYPE: Office LOCATION : Shenzen, China AREA : 327 Sq mts YEAR : 2020 ARCHITECTS : ARCHSTUDIO FRAME is a well-known media devoted to recording and promoting cutting-edge interior design, covering the design of products, home decor, material, and fashion. Taking "FRAME" as the theme to reinterpret space, structure, form, and material, the design presents an innovative and inspiring working environment and communication platform to employees and visitors while communicating Frame magazine's pursuit of aesthetics and design.
The bookshelves and stairs surrounding the atrium become the visual focus of the office. The bookshelves are used to keep the magazines and materials of the editorial team, while the staircase plays a key role as the vertical circulation in the space. The two together form an 8.8-meter-high installation with the theme of "FRAME". The bookshelves and stairs are woven from reinforcing steel bars with a diameter of 8 millimeters, and this seethrough "frame" weakens the physical presence of structures and interfaces.

TERRA RESTAURANT AND BAR PROJECT TYPE: Hospitality LOCATION : Lviv, Ukraine AREA : 1152 Sq mts YEAR : 2020 ARCHITECTS : YOD Group
Terra is designed to celebrate the natural beauty of western Ukraine’s landscapes – many of the design details are references to the four elements.
The context behind Terra’s opening makes it all the meaningful that the studio opted for a concept that reconnects users with Ukrainian heritage and craft. The meticulous use of materiality and strategic lighting creates an atmosphere that is at once relaxing and curiosityprovoking.
Eye-catching, light-incorporating columns clad in brown and green glass bricks stud the dim, ambient restaurant. One of the structures hides a round wine room with a capacity of 3,500 bottles. Other pillars are covered with terracotta tiles, adopting the Ukrainian technique of surfacing fireplaces and furnaces with ceramics. The space’s back wall – an interior centrepiece – is similarly layered, with copper-hued glass slabs imprinted with unique, floristic designs. Terra’s footprint is fluidly extended with an outdoor terrace populated by American sweetgum trees.
ORNAMENTATION IN CONTEXTUAL INTERIORS Oranre: Ornamentation and its Articulation in Interior Realm
‘We aimed to extract colors, textures, and impressions from the landscape to translate them into the interior design language, like the Eyedropper tool in Photoshop, but on a reallife scale,’ explains the team at YOD Group.

ASSOCIATIONS OF CLAY LAMPS AND LAMPSHADES A flickering flame can be engaging, mesmerizing and even inspirational. Flames can induce trances and cause visions, negate destructive forces. So it is no wonder that oil lamps continued to be useful, decorative and meaningful accessories even after light became dominated by electricity. Ornamentation is found in these objects by simple motifs and geometric forms. Lampshades have aperatures that give unique effects with light. Lamps can be given simple repetitive details while they are half dried to add characte.
Lamp and Lampshades come in corresponding sizes. There are three major sizes of lamps available in the market: 1. Small (DIA : 8 cm) 2. Medium (DIA : 10-12 cm 3. Large (DIA : 15cm)

What is Folklore?
Linear and Shed
Diagonal Visibility
Folklore is a tradition based on expressive behaviors that brings a group together, creates a convention and commits it to cultural memory. Historically, folklore has been transmitted through oral recitation, music and dance performances in community spaces and theater.
SITE LOCATION : Mehrauli, Delhi
With a spatial idea of “Pursuing Newer Perspectives”, the idea is to propose a Center for Folklore Education and Research Center.
DESIGNED BY : Design Bureau YEAR
What is the need for such a center? As a Moral and Arts Education Center for Children People’s reaction to events in life may vary but Folklore provides us with the wisdom to overcome situations. We are unique as individuals, but we are all connected through collective moral truths. Children benefit from moral education at an early age as it would help model positive character traits while borrowing from their own culture.
: 2010
The built-form offers a linear void, giving complete freedom for programmatic functions to spread throughout the space. Site is closer to residential areas allowing for an education center to be successful in the area.
Proposed Program provides a platform for folklorists to preserve and conduct research to make Indian Folklore a selfsustaining branch of literature and to make a living library of oral folklore by means of formalizing it.
As a Cultural Hub to support small scale industries
Educating Children in the narratives of folklore via art, dance, music, poetry, literature or theater allows children to be exposed to the various forms of Arts available and broaden their perspectives.
With performances and the potential to bring in large crowds, the project will be able to offer opportunities to small scale industries to put forth their work for outreach and exposure.
Diagonal Visibility is purposed to ensue newer perspectives by the following methods :
As a Preservation Center for Folklore
1. Emphasize this spatial continuity 2. Increase the circulatory experience 3. Encourage alternative viewership and activities 4. Imbibe a sense of transformation
Depicting Folklore in its true format via art, dance, music, poetry, literature or theater allow children to be exposed to the various forms of Arts available and broaden their perspectives.
The National Folklore Support Centre (NFSC) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization, dedicated to the promotion of Indian folklore research, education, training, networking, and publications. NFSC aims to achieve its goals through cooperative and experimental activities at various levels. It is supported by grants from the Ford Foundation and the Tata Education Trust. The aim of this research cell is to ensure Indian Folklore becomes a self-sustaining branch of literature and to make a living library of oral folklore by means of formalizing it.
