“Chabad at McGill is a very special place, one that is difficult to put into words. Chabad was my home away from home. It provided me with nurture, care, knowledge, and love. Chabad was fundamental to my university experience, and taught me so much that a classroom could not. Chabad at McGill will forever hold a special place in my heart.”

– Victoria Shore

• OVERVIEW • McGill University is arguable the most prestigious university in Canada, and among the top twenty-five in the world. McGill’s degrees and diplomas in over 300 fields of study attract 40,000 students, including over 10,000 international students that come from around the world to study here, and 4,000 Jewish students. McGill counts among its alumni 12 Nobel laureates, three astronauts, three Canadian prime ministers, thirteen justices of the Canadian Supreme Court, four foreign leaders, 28 foreign ambassadors, three Pulitzer Prize winners, and 28 Olympic medalists.

Chabad at McGill University Marks Grand Opening of New Student Center MONTREAL — When Rabbi Shmuly and Rashi Weiss took on the roles of directors at Chabad at McGill University in Montreal, Canada nine years ago, they had three people around their humble Shabbos table. In Early April 2016, while gearing up to host hundreds for Passover, the full transformation of “the humble three guests at the Weiss’ first Shabbos table” to state-of-the-art and modern Chabad Center was complete. Surrounded by family, friends, students and supporters, Rabbi and Mrs. Weiss proudly re-opened the new Rohr Jewish Center at McGill University. “Look at this place! It’s magnificent,” commented one of the students. “Chabad at McGill is definitely the place to be. I know it’s cliché, but this really is our home-away-from-home.”

“My Jewishness has grown for the better thanks to the openness of Rabbi Shmuly and Rashi. I also met my best friends at university through Chabad, and I could not imagine going through all those cold, stressful December exam periods without Rashi and her amazing hot and lively Shabbat meals that nourished my Jewish soul.”

As we settle in to our new, state-of-the-art facility, we anticipate a significant boost in participation of at least 20% in the first year alone.” – Rabbi Shmuly Weiss, Director
