Abstract
The importance of continuous training of health personnel for performing ECG exams in Telehealth systems.
The use of telecardiology for easy access to the results of electrocardiogram (ECG) exams performed in the city of Montes Claros, in the Municipal’s Emergency Care Dr. Alpheu Gonçalves de Quadros, began in December 2012. The service was made possible through a partnership between the Minas Gerais State Health Department, Telehealth Center of the UFMG’s Hospital and Clinics, Center for Telehealth of the Clemente de Faria University Hospital – UNIMONTES, and Municipal Health Service of Montes Claros. The telecardiology system uses the hardware module ECGPC-TEB, for ECG acquisition and the computer software ECGPC TEB-UFMG - Version 6.2 - Revision 1, assisted trough the website http://www.telessaude.hc.ufmg.br/. The use of this solution was not successful right from the start. However, the Department of Biomedical Systems Technologies took the initiative of working at the Municipal’s Emergency Care , and began tracking the nursing professionals in the electrocardiogram acquisition, transmission and reception of the reports. Failures in the implementation of the procedures were corrected and a new training strategy, with the support from the Center for Telehealth of the Clemente de Faria University Hospital, was designed and put into operation. Also very important was the commitment of the hospital administration. The new procedure was very successful resulting in an increase of more than 600% in the mean monthly procedures in the first two months after the implementation of the new training program.
