NON-SELLING EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS Tennants hosts a busy and varied programme of exhibitions and events, which not only support and enhance the auction programme but provide a diverse cultural experience for visitors and the local community. Frequently working in association with museums, private collectors and educational establishments, highlights of the non-selling exhibition programme include curated displays of treasures from The Bowes Museum and fine art exhibitions including 350 Years of British Art and Light & Shadow, which showcased major loaned works from over twenty museums and numerous private collections. The applied arts have been celebrated with exhibitions dedicated to William Morris, antique quilts and the furniture and furnishings of Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson. Northern Art is championed too, with frequent selling exhibitions. Jewellery Colour Stones. It should be noted that gemstones are often treated to improve their appearance. Heating, for instance, can intensify the colour or transparency of sapphires and rubies, whilst oiling can improve the clarity of emeralds. The international jewellery trade generally accepts these methods. Once heated, the colour enhancement is permanent, though there may be some effect on the durability of the gemstone in question. Once a gemstone has been oiled, the process may need to be repeated in the future to maintain the clarity. Certificates. Some lots are accompanied by gemmological certificates which give an opinion on some or all of the gemstones included in that particular piece. These certificates may have been obtained by Tennants or supplied by vendors. It is important to note that the content of these certificates is not guaranteed by Tennants and we cannot be held responsible for any disagreement over the content of certificates after the sale or for a retrospective change in opinion by the providers of any of the certificates.
Watches All Lots are sold as seen, and the absence of any reference to the condition of a watch does not imply the lot is in good condition and without defects, repairs or restorations. Most watches have been repaired in the course of their normal lifetime and may now incorporate parts not original to them. We do not undertake any inspection of any watches
