TENNIS NT – PROFILE Vision To have the game of tennis enjoyed by a significant proportion of the NT population. Mission To provide pathways to optimise people’s life long enjoyment of tennis. Heritage Tennis NT Incorporated trading as Tennis NT was established in 1980. Its establishment was the shared vision of the founding President, Mr. Max Horton and a small group of interested tennis players. TENNIS NT – PRESIDENT’S REPORT In this 2007 annual report we will showcase the many achievements of our athletes and continued progress and initiatives in many areas of Tennis NT and across our affiliate network. Highlights: - Kassandra Dunser and Adil Hakeem being selected to represent Australia - Members of the NTIS squad achieving career high Australian Ranking Points - 4 Tennis NT tournaments successfully held, including Arafura Games, NT Open Championships, Darwin and NT ITF Tournaments - 15 Affiliate run tournaments held throughout the year - The Indigenous Tennis Program showed an increase in participants While we acknowledge the success, 2007 has been a challenging year for our affiliates in attracting and retaining coaching staff. The Katherine Tennis Club committee members in particular are to be commended for their efforts in continuing to provide playing and coaching opportunities for their members and young athletes. Tennis NT will continue to assist Katherine and all our affiliates to attract tennis coaches to the Northern Territory. Tennis NT has continued to lobby the NT Government for new facilities and while we have gained support from the Department of Sport and Recreation little movement is occurring to date. The City of Palmerston has been proactive in giving their support for tennis courts to be built in the new suburb development of Bellamack and Roseberry and we await the outcome of those negotiations. I always like to take the opportunity within my report to acknowledge the efforts and continued support of our Territory wide network of sponsors, coaches, volunteers, officials and administrators who contribute so much to our sport. Thank You. Tennis NT will continue to work in collaboration with Tennis Australia, Kids Tennis Foundation, our State and Territory colleagues and the Northern Territory Government in ensuring tennis remains Australia’s Favourite. I commend to you the 28th Annual Report and Financial Statements of Tennis NT for the period January – December 2007.

TENNIS NT – GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT 2007 saw the implementation of many changes at Tennis Australia, which filtered through to the Member Association level. The obvious visual change is the introduction of the new tennis brand, which has symbolised a shift in culture and structure within tennis across Australia. It has been a juggling act bringing together the ideas and actions of Tennis Australia whilst maintaining a unique environment for tennis delivery in the Northern Territory. Late in 2006, Rohan Fisher began his new role of Athlete Development Manager SA/NT and 2007 was the first full year running with a new structure for athlete development. The agreement between Tennis Australia, Tennis SA and Tennis NT is in place for 2007-2008 to trial this form of delivery. Local coaches Pat Coburn and Ben Milner provided coaching to NTIS athletes on a regular basis and when the Athlete Development Manager SA/NT arrived in NT for one week every month, a buzz of extra activity would ensue. Thank you to Rohan Fisher who has made a concerted effort as Athlete Development Manager SA/NT to value add to programs and increase the standard of athletes and coaches within Tennis NT and its affiliates. Changes to staffing have been seen in the Tennis NT office. Marketing and Events Manager, Sean Barrett, transferred to Tennis SA in July. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sean for his dedicated work (and hairstyles) whilst at Tennis NT. With temporary staff filling this role, the Board opted to take time to evaluate positions and the climate of tennis at Tennis NT. The new position of Tennis Operations Coordinator was offered to Mark Pead, who will begin in 2008. Administration Officer, Robyn Stanley, continued to provide immeasurable support throughout these staff changes. With new staff, different ways of operating and a lot of logos to change, Tennis NT forged ahead during 2007 delivering programs, tournaments and events. The Arafura Games brought international sport to our doorstep and proved to be the catalyst for planning and securing funding to deliver wheelchair tennis locally. Social wheelchair tennis will be piloted in 2008. The SKYCITY NT Open Championships and ITF Tournaments again provided high quality tennis, with players traveling from all corners of Australia, and some internationally, to compete in Darwin. The staff and volunteers who assisted with these major events must be thanked for their contribution. Six of the seven affiliates in 2007 were court providers and as such were able to run effective coaching programs, tournaments, social competitions and mentor new coaches. Without this work being done by the affiliates, Tennis NT would not have athletes accessing programs, coaches attending workshops or as many competition opportunities for the players. Regional Development Officers based in host clubs are contracted to improve the standard of tennis in their region and run the Indigenous Tennis Program locally. 720 indigenous athletes were seen through this program, which allows tennis in the Northern Territory to stand out amongst the other Member Associations. Personal highlights included learning how tennis tournaments are managed, attending the Our Sporting Futures conference (pictured) and traveling to each of the affiliates, as well as Groote Eylandt. It has been interesting to learn how differently tennis is conducted across the Northern Territory and yet how well the affiliates support each other. I trust that 2008 will see the consolidation of many of Olivia Birkett , Katherine Hollis, Don Boyanton, Carol Kawaljenko, Steve Rossingh the changes brought about in 2007 and that Tennis NT can continue moving forward with support from its members and affiliates. TENNIS NT – COMMUNITY TENNIS Regional Development Program Northern Region Southern Region Central Region
Gove Peninsula Tennis Club Alice Springs Tennis Association Katherine Tennis Club
RDO: Nicky Mayer RDO: Warren Foote Supported by Sandie Smiles & Mark Pead
In 2007 the Regional Development Program continued to engage regional communities with tennis. The program aims to support contracted Regional Development Officers, who are coaches based at tennis clubs, to take tennis out to their region. They also run local coaching programs, tournaments and competitions, and manage the hub tennis club in their region. With RDO’s leaving Southern and Central regions late in 2006, there was a gap in delivery in these areas. Unfortunately Katherine Tennis Club have found it difficult to secure a new full time coach, so Tennis NT arranged for support via two Darwin coaches travelling to work with Nicky Mayer coaching them. Alice Springs Tennis Association welcomed Warren Foote and Treena Monroe as club managers in March. It took some time to establish their core business at the centre, so some delays occurred in fulfilling RDO commitments. In the Northern Region Nicky Mayer has continued to deliver a strong program through Gove Peninsula Tennis Club. The knowledge she has shared with both Tennis NT and other RDO’s has been invaluable. Indigenous Tennis Program The Tennis NT Indigenous Tennis Program reached new levels in 2007 with 720 athletes introduced to tennis in different communities. The programs’ philosophy is to provide exciting new opportunities to indigenous communities. Tennis is a fun sport, that provides a healthy pastime and can help increase self esteem. These are intangible benefits of the program, however we can quantify that the number of indigenous athletes in metropolitan tennis clubs was 15 and in regional clubs was 12 for the year. An aim for the Indigenous Tennis Program in 2008 will be to train local deliverers in coaching and officiating so that tennis can become self sufficient in communities. ITP on Groote Eylandt

TENNIS NT – COMMUNITY TENNIS Membership and Player Registration 2007 saw a record number of 1,366 registered members for Tennis NT. Administration Officer, Robyn Stanley, put in a concerted effort to ensure all affiliates entered details of members correctly. Tennis NT would like to thank all affiliates for supporting membership and hopes to see another increase in numbers in 2008. Tennis Borroloola did not renew its affiliation in 2007. Katherine Tennis Club and Alice Springs Tennis Association were both in rebuilding phases with their membership and we hope to see their numbers continue to rise in 2008. It was pleasing to see the metropolitan based affiliates of DTC Sports (410 members), Darwin Tennis Association (254 members) and Palms Tennis Centre (49 members) increase their numbers. Most impressively, Gove Peninsula Tennis Club with a town population of approximately 3,500, had 367 members. This means about 10% of the town are members of the tennis club! 450

Insurance In 2007 Tennis NT and its affiliates were part of the Tennis Australia National Insurance Program with Marsh. Under this scheme, all affiliates are covered for Public Liability and Professional Indemnity, plus all registered members received Personal Accident Insurance. Interestingly, NT was the only state that did not lodge a tennis insurance claim in 2007. With cheaper costs and an increase in benefits to affiliates and a wide range of information available from Marsh, Tennis NT is happy to continue with this scheme in 2008.

TENNIS NT – COMMUNITY TENNIS Katherine Tennis Club rebuilding courts
Facility Development Katherine Tennis Club underwent a massive upgrade of their 2006 flood damaged courts, rebuilding all of their six courts. The Katherine Town Council provided much of the support for this project and the club is now ready for tennis action in 2008. Gove Peninsula Tennis Club upgraded their fence, built a new storage shed and began repair work on and off the court surfaces.
DTC Sports completed the upgrade of all six of their tennis courts. DTC Sports became the first centre in the Northern Territory to receive support through Tennis Australia’s National Court Rebate Scheme. Tennis NT continued to communicate with the Northern Territory Government and Sport and Recreation about the possibility of a Territory Tennis Centre and relayed other facility priorities. The precedence has been established to continue this communication, about facilities, with government. Club Managers Workshop On the 28th and 29th November, club managers from each of Tennis NT’s affiliates gathered at the Tennis NT offices for a two day workshop.
Attendees at the Club Managers Workshop
Tennis NT staff presented a range of topics and opened up items for debate. Tennis Australia was represented by Geoff Quinlan (Athlete Development department), who highlighted some of the key initiatives and developments in this area. He praised Tennis NT and its affiliates for continuing to produce high standard players, given NT’s small population and geographical isolation.
After considerable discussion, a major concern for all affiliates was a lack of coaches and this is to be addressed in 2008. Throughout the workshop, brainstorming and sharing of ideas lead to constructive actions and it was very positive bringing together club managers from across the Northern Territory.

TENNIS NT – COMMUNITY TENNIS Tennis Australia Initiatives Baseline All of Tennis NT’s affiliates are registered with Baseline and this is the main tool used for player registrations. Clubs can also use Baseline to keep track of member contact details and as a communication tool to their members. Baseline provides a direct link between affiliates and Tennis NT. Hot Shots Tennis Australia’s new participation program, aimed at children aged 5-12, is delivered by local coaches. In 2007, the Northern Territory had 109 children registered with the program. Club Business Plans DTC Sports and Gove Peninsula Tennis Club submitted their Club Business Plans to Tennis NT this year. Tennis NT’s goal is for all clubs to have an active Business Plan that is regularly monitored and reviewed. Tennis Australia have produced tools to make the business planning process simpler. Facility Development Government Grant Access Tennis NT is encouraged by Tennis Australia to assist affiliates submit grants to the NT Government for facility development. In 2007 Gove Peninsula Tennis Club applied for a facility grant and Tennis NT met with other clubs about future applications.
Gove Peninsula Tennis Club being upgraded
Indigenous Action Plan Five of the eight Member Associations applied for funding through the Indigenous Tennis Program at Tennis Australia. Supported by the Australian Sports Commission, this funding helps enable delivery of tennis to indigenous athletes in regional settings. The action plan submitted this year for 2007-2009 has provided for additional resources to run Orientation to Coaching workshops in communities to help make tennis more self sufficient. Disability Action Plan Being inspired by wheelchair tennis at the Arafura Games, and wanting to provide a pathway to the event for Northern Territory wheelchair athletes, Tennis NT submitted a Sports CONNECT Disability Action Plan. Funding was secured to pilot a social wheelchair competition in 2008.

TENNIS NT – ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT Little Incentives for Tournaments (LIFT) 2007 was the inaugural year for LIFT funding. The aim of LIFT funding is to provide an incentive to athletes outside of the NTIS program, to reach some of the NTIS criteria. Not only will this financially reward achievements of a certain standard, but begin to put athletes on track for criteria entry into the NTIS program in future years. Further information and forms can be found at www.tennis.com.au 2007 recipients were: Ethan Scobie $600 George Shepheard $600 Kiera Halicek $300

Swinger Enhancement Program (SEP) The SEP Program has continued to foster emerging talent across the Northern Territory. SEP derives its title from the computer program “Swinger” used in conjunction with a digital camera to video athlete technique. From the footage taken, the Athlete Development Manager SA/NT meets with the player, their parent or guardian and the athlete’s private coach at a stakeholder’s meeting.
LIFT funding recipient, Kiera Halicek
Areas of the athlete’s game that would benefit from further attention are highlighted and discussed. Following this meeting, private coaches work on these particular areas with the player during their private lessons. A review session occurs later in the year. One of the thirteen athletes from this years SEP Program has progressed to the NTIS and all others had a strong year representing their clubs and schools, and some were selected for Northern Territory teams. Metro & Regional Camps This year, camps for both Metro and Regional athletes were scheduled to provide an intense training environment. Two Metro Camps were held in May and August and one Regional Camp was held in June. A total of 18 athletes attended these camps, which provided them with access to some interesting activities such as yoga, psychology, fitness testing and hydration education. Up2U Camp Invited athletes from the Metro or Regional Camps attended the Up2U Camp. It was planned to provide preparation in the lead up to the 14/U National Points Schweppes Red Centre Open in November. Held in Alice Springs, many athletes traveled from Darwin and were billeted for the duration of their stay. Returning from a four year scholarship at Michigan State University, Sarah Andrews was one of the coaches at the camp and found this to be a very positive experience. The athletes certainly benefited from both the coaching and the whole camp program, in the lead up to an important tournament on the Northern Territory calendar.

TENNIS NT – ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT Optus Teams Event In a change of format the 12s & 14s teams events were held at Melbourne Park in conjunction with the 16s and 18s Nationals and Australian Open Wildcard playoff. The athletes selected to represent the Territory also took part in a three day National Camp prior to the three day teams event. The NT 12s Girls Team (Kassandra Dunser & Kiera Halicek) created history by progressing to the Teams event final. Along the way NT defeated the larger states of Queensland, NSW & Victoria. The manager of this team was Ashlee Brown.
Ashlee Brown Kassandra Dunser

The NT 12s Boys Team (Lachlan Bates, Kaelan Bates & Ben Lye) were the youngest team competing in the event and will greatly benefit from the experience for next year. The team manager was Pat Coburn. The NT 14s Girls Team (Kassandra Dunser, Matilda Hurst & Emily Webb) were extremely competitive losing a tight first match to WA who went on to win the event. The manager of the 14s team was Pat Coburn. Tennis Australia The results achieved across the world by Australian Juniors have been simply outstanding. There are four World Teams championships and Australia won 3 from 4 in 2007, which has never been achieved by Australia before. The AIS program is also producing strong results. Tennis Australia’s NHPA / Sports Science Coordinator, Geoff Quinlan, attended the Club Managers Workshop in November in Darwin. Geoff presented on the direction of Athlete Development in Australia. Tennis Australia has provided substantial financial assistance to Tennis NT for Player Development. It has also assisted individual athletes in the Territory through participation opportunities in tours and tournaments it has coordinated and conducted. Acknowledgements A number of individuals are to be thanked for volunteering at various times throughout the year to support athletes on tour. They include Sarah Andrews, Pat Coburn, Jaslyn Hewitt & Ben Milner. NTIS Strength & Conditioning Coach Kia Naylor has also been an outstanding contributor to our 2007 program.

TENNIS NT – ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT To the staff at Tennis NT, a big thanks to Robyn Stanley, Olivia Birkett, Sean Barrett, Sarah Andrews & Mark Pead for their continued support and the countless hours they spend on Athlete Development for Tennis in the Northern Territory. Where to now? The results this year have been better than ever before; a WTA ranking, an International ITF Singles Title, a National Teams Final, a National Doubles Finalist and numerous National semi finals appearances. These listed results however represent only five NT athletes. The first challenge that lies ahead in the Northern Territory is to increase the depth of tennis in both juniors and seniors. The second challenge is to see the depth of tennis spread through all the affiliates. “The secret formula in producing elite tennis players is very easy for the athlete and coach – ‘Hard Work.” Rohan Fisher Athlete Development Manager Tennis SA / NT

TENNIS NT – COACHES & OFFICIALS Coach Development Junior Development Coaching Course (JDCC) Tennis NT scheduled a JDCC in May 2007, however could not secure enough participants to make the course viable. It is already a goal for 2008 to overcome some of the costs and time barriers to enable this course to run and increase the number of qualified coaches in the Northern Territory. Orientation to Coaching (OTC) Workshop Five OTC courses were held across the Northern Territory in 2007 with a total of 43 participants. These OTC coaches will be encouraged to complete the Junior Development Coaching Course in the future. Tennis NT is also encouraging senior athletes to take an active coaching role where possible, acting as both role models and to develop their own coaching skills for the future. Adil Hakeem, keen to complete coaching qualifications, assisting a coaching program
Coach Workshops Five coach workshops were held, with presentations by Athlete Development Manager SA/NT, to provide new ideas and professional development to coaches. These were well attended and Tennis NT would like to encourage coaches to continue to attend these workshops. Coach Travel Assistance In 2007 Tennis NT introduced Coach Travel Assistance, to encourage coaches to take athletes on tour. Four coaches applied for the travel assistance when traveling interstate with junior players to various tournaments. Officials Tennis NT conducted two court supervisor courses in 2007 in both Darwin and Alice Springs. This provided new court supervisors to assist with the running of tournaments. Whilst no referee courses were conducted, current referees worked towards maintaining their qualification and were vital in Tennis NT’s ability to run tournaments.

TENNIS NT – EVENTS SKYCITY NT Open Championships Tennis NT were very pleased to sign SKYCITY as the new naming rights sponsor for the NT Open Championships. This has proved to be a successful partnership and we aim to continue working closely with SKYCITY in the future. Thank you to Ross Connolly, who again performed the role of Tournament Referee supported by court supervisors’ from across the Northern Territory. Tournament Director Sean Barrett again put together an excellent tournament for players and spectators alike. Night time NT Open Championship action at Gardens Tennis Complex
As the premier event on the Northern Territory events calendar, players from the following age groups competed for Australian Ranking Points: Men’s and Women’s Open, 18/U and 14/U. There was also an 12/U and 10/U section that provided an exciting opportunity for many of the Territories’ younger players. This year there were 41 athletes from all eight states and territories competing. In 2008 this tournament will be elevated to Australian Money Tournament status, with increased prizemoney. Tennis NT hopes this will see an increase in participation that will provide NT players with a high standard of tennis.

Introduced in 2002, the Senior Points Circuit was designed to increase participation in senior tournaments and to provide incentive for clubs to conduct more open tournaments. Since its inception the circuit has grown from four to six events and participation numbers have grown steadily from year to year. This year 331 athletes, from the Northern Territory and interstate, entered Open events at these tournaments. An interstate athlete may come top of the points leader board, however only Northern Territory players are eligible to win the Senior Points Circuit title. Previously all three of the Northern Territories’ regions have been represented in the Senior Points Circuit, however due to the condition of their flood damaged courts, Katherine Tennis Club were unable to host the Katherine Open in 2007. Gardens Tennis Complex offered to host the Katherine Open, renaming it the iizen Open for 2007-2008. This meant that six tournaments were still run in the Senior Points Circuit and valuable Australian Ranking points remained available for junior athletes. Finally, congratulations to Tarlina Tipungwuti who not only won the women’s circuit, but became the first player in SPC history to compete in all six of the Senior Points Circuit tournaments. Traveling to Gove and Alice Springs, as well as playing all the tournaments in Darwin, Tarlina’s achievement is the mark of a dedicated Northern Territory athlete.

TENNIS NT – EVENTS Darwin and Northern Territory ITF Circuit Thank you to the naming right sponsors PowerWater and Darwin City Council for supporting these two events as part of the July Junior Circuit. We also appreciate the support from the ITF and Tennis Australia for much of the behind the scenes work in organising these tournaments. In 2007 Marcia O’Shea again performed an important role as Tournament Referee, assisted by her daughter Lisa O’Shea. There were also a number of local court supervisors who provide valuable support to the referees. Sean Barrett did an excellent job as Tournament Director, supported by a team of dedicated tournament office volunteers. The staff of Gardens Tennis Complex again worked in the canteen and pro shop looking after needs of players and coaches. Physiotherapist’s were on rotation from Fannie Bay Physiotherapy, ensuring that players injuries, both acute and long term, were properly managed. This year five countries were represented at both the Darwin and NT ITF tournaments, with players from China, Japan, New Zealand, Russia as well as many Australians. Of the 103 Australian athletes, five were from the Northern Territory. NTIS athlete Adil Hakeem reached the Round of 16 in both tournaments; Alice Springs players Ethan Scobie and Jamie Toyne played together in doubles and both had competitive singles matches; and NTIS athletes Matilda Hurst and Tarlina Tipungwuti played in the NT ITF to gain valuable ITF experience. Tennis NT would like to thank players and coaches for their continued support of the Darwin ITF circuit and for playing some highly entertaining tennis. Tennis NT is proud to host two of the eight junior ITF tournaments that take place in Australia each year. These ITF’s continue to be strong breeding ground for future Northern Territory and Australian champions. Darwin ITF: Chen-Yu Wu & Miyabi Inoue

TENNIS NT – MARKETING Tennis Brand Tennis NT Office windows
2007 saw the change over from the old Tennis NT logo to the new tennis brand. The Tennis NT office received a facelift with new branding on the inside and outside. The vibrant colours of the tennis brand can now be seen across Australia.
Website - www.tennis.com.au The Tennis NT website continues to be updated with news articles and photos. In 2007 we started receiving monthly statistics about website use and can track which pages are receiving the most hits. The website is an excellent marketing and communication tool and Tennis NT will continue to improve it. Each of our affiliates has access to a tennis website through the same system and it is an aim for 2008 that all clubs have a website. Australian Tennis Magazine The continuation of the bi-monthly ‘Grassroots’ segment enhanced the promotion of the programs and events conducted throughout the Northern Territory. The publication provides exposure to a national audience as well as through the Asia-Pacific region. e-newsletter Four e-newsletters were emailed to over 600 recipients. The e-newsletter is a fantastic communication tool that provides up-to-date information direct to members email. Tennis NT would like to see more people subscribe to the e-newsletter and aims to keep it relevant and interesting. TV Commercial Southern Cross continued to sponsor Tennis NT in 2007. The Tennis NT television commercial was updated and ran during peak tennis opportunities such as the Grand Slams and in the lead up to the tennis season. The phones at Tennis NT always ring with new enquires after the television commercial has been aired. Media Tennis was very well covered in the media in 2007. With numerous NT News and Centralian Advocate articles, tennis was prominent in print media. There were also television news stories focusing on a number of individual NT athletes, as well as providing updates during peak tournament season. Local radio support was strong with ABC doing live crosses from Arafura Games and the ITF Tournaments, Territory FM regularly interviewing Rohan Fisher for player development news and Hot 100 promoting tournaments, events and results.

INDEPENDENT AUDIT REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF TENNIS NT INC
Scope I have audited the attached special purpose financial report of the Tennis NT for the year ended 31 December 2007. The Association’s Board of Management is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the financial report, and the information contained therein, and has determined that the accounting policies used are consistent with the financial reporting requirements of the entity’s constitution and are appropriate to meet the needs of the members. I have conducted an independent audit of the financial report in order to express an opinion to the members of the Tennis NT on its preparation and presentation. No opinion is expressed as to whether the accounting policies used are appropriate to the needs of the members. The financial report has been prepared for distribution to the members for the purpose of fulfilling the Board of Management’s financial reporting requirements under the Association’s constitution and the Associations Act. I disclaim any assumption of responsibility for any reliance on this report or on the financial report to which it relates, to any person other than the members, or for any purpose other than that for which it was prepared. My audit has been conducted in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. My procedures included examination, on a test basis, of evidence supporting the amounts and other disclosures in the financial report, and the evaluation of accounting estimates. These procedures have been undertaken to form an opinion as to whether, in all material respects, the financial report is presented fairly in accordance with the basis of accounting described in Note 1 to the financial report and the requirements of the Associations Act. These do not require the application of all Accounting Standards. The audit opinion expressed in this report has been formed on the above basis. Qualification The Association only records amounts received for fundraising, donations and function receipts when these amounts are banked, as it is not practical to establish control over such income prior to its initial entry. My audit relating to such income was therefore limited to ensuring that the amounts banked are properly recorded in the accounts. Qualified Audit Opinion In my opinion, subject to the matters referred to in the above qualification paragraph, the financial report presents fairly in accordance with the accounting policies described in Note 1 to the financial report and the Associations Act, the financial position of the Tennis NT Inc. at 31 December 2007 and the results of its operations for the year then ended.

These funds are currently held in reserves. A requirement of the Lease Agreement for Tennis NT’s current premises is that they be painted. NOTE 6. NOTE 8. ITF TOURNAMENTS Tennis Australia paid money directly to Tennis NT as Tennis NT assumed responsibility of player per diems. The total amount is less than 2006, as fewer athletes claimed the per diem. NOTE 9. INDIGENOUS SPORT PROGRAM Tennis NT did not apply for extra Indigenous funding through the NT Government in 2007, as some money was allocated to the Indigenous Tennis Program from the ‘Developing the Community’ area and also from Tennis Australia. NOTE 10. SPECIAL GRANTS and PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT A special grant was applied for and received from the NT Government. This was directly used to assist the professional development of the General Manager attend a National Conference. All three staff members at Tennis NT in the first half of the year, received some form of professional development. NOTE 11. INSURANCE With the change in insurance provider under the National Insurance Program at Tennis Australia, it was not necessary to invoice affiliates for the extra insurance, due to a cheaper rate and additional benefits. TENNIS NT – FINANCIAL NOTES NOTE 13. COACH EDUCAITON Both income and expenditure in Coach Education during 2007 reflect that no Junior Development Coaching Course was conducted. In March 2006 a course was held, and the difference in the figures can be seen. NOTE 14. NTIS SQUAD In previous years income has been received by members of the NTIS squad when billed for tour expenses. In 2007 no tour expenses were billed to NTIS squad members. The income in this area is from squad fees. NOTE 15. STATE SQUAD, PROJECT 12’s and METRO/REGIONAL CAMPS In 2007 no State Squad or Project 12’s were run. Instead two Metro and one Regional Camp were conducted to provided training opportunities to developing athletes. NOTE 16. BANK CHARGES With the introduction of a mobile EFTPOS machine, bank charges increased in 2007. This will be itemised separately in 2008 and customers will be charged for credit card fees. NOTE 17. RE-BRANDING With the change to the tennis brand, Tennis NT’s office signage as well as other items such as referee shirts needed to be re-branded. Tennis Australia assisted in this process by providing free stationery, business cards and other items. NOTE 18. MEMBERSHIP With a decision to re-introduce membership cards, came a cost per card. As membership was at a record high, this figure rose per member. NOTE 19. COACH EXPENSES Coach expenses covered the contract payment to Tennis SA for the services and travel of the Athlete Development Manager SA/NT. Tennis NT’s Coach Travel Assistance for local coaches also came out of this expense item. NOTE 20. PLAYER TRAVEL SUBSIDES There has been a decrease in the number of tours organised and paid for through Tennis NT. As such this area of income and expenditure has decreased. Only two small tours were billed through Tennis NT in 2007. NOTE 21. TRAVEL There was an increase in travel for the Marketing and Events area as staff were required to travel twice to Melbourne for Tennis Australia meetings, assisted Alice Springs Tennis Association conduct two of their events and to Katherine for assistance with a Talent Search Day. NOTE 22. NET PROFIT With a significant decrease in funding from Tennis Australia, Tennis NT managed their programs and finances well in 2007 to end with a $6,244.16 profit. There is a need to increase levels of sponsorship, not only for events but for programs as well, so that Tennis NT can deliver a quality service to its affiliates and members. To increase income, there is a need to review membership and player development as these areas do not balance with their expenditure.
