How to get to Residence Montelaguna by car Whether you are coming from Liberia or San Jose, the roads are paved and you do not need a 4 wheel drive. It is not far in km/miles, however, the roads are single lanes and therefore it inevitably takes longer than what the miles would indicate. Our suggestion is not to drive at night time, especially when you have just arrived as there is very poor lighting and often times, pot holes. It gets pitch black around 6:00 pm throughout the yr. Its therefore best to stay in a hotel and leave the next morning. From Liberia airport (approx 2 hours). Head towards the beaches (not towards Liberia town). As you leave the airport, you will come to a main road, turn right. You will basically stay on this road for about 1 hour. You will then see a big intersection (blinking lights) and a sign for Nicoya. Get “off” here by taking a right. You are now entering the town of Nicoya. Go always straight for about 10 minutes, and you will exit the town of Nicoya. Keep going straight and look for signs for Samara (there is a little y in the road – just keep to the right). Now you are on the road to Samara. This is a curvy road up some mountains (very beautiful scenery). It will take you around 45 minutes to get to Samara. Always go straight. Once you are in Samara, you will see a 2 story commercial center on your right called Patio Colonial. Take the road on your left. (which is in front of the commercial center). This is the road to Carrillo. Keep going straight for about 4 km/2 miles. On your right you will soon see a very large wall and a sign for Villas Playa Samara. As soon as you see this, look on your left and you will shortly see another large wall. This is the beginning of Residence Montelaguna. Go to the second entrance and come in, or beep if the bars are down (depends at what tigme you arrive). Useful phone numbers : 8887 1851, 8887 1876 From San jose airport. You want to take the CALDERA highway also known as the Autopista del Sol. Or highway 27. To do this, exit the airport and take the highway for down town San jose. Go straight on this highway until you come to a traffic light. This could take you half an hour if there is no major traffic. You have now entered the beginning of San Jose. On your right you will see a tall building and then a large park (it’s the “Central” park of Costa Rica). Pass the traffic light and keep going straight. Try and stay on the right lane as you will turn right as soon as the park ends. (There

is a Mac Donalds kitty corner to the park). Once you have turned right, this is the beginning of the CALDERA highway. Always go straight for a good hour. You will pass 4 tolls. (Pls make sure you have local money with you as I don’t think they accept credit cards. It will cost around $4 for the entire highway). Once you have paid the 4th toll, keep on going straight for about half an hour. You will pass Puntarenas – where the large container ships come in and later on you will see a Hilton on your left. There is also a gas station around here (good time to get gas if you are short). Keep on going straight until you are forced to go right as the road does a loop to get onto the Pan American highway (don’t be fooled, this is a one lane road – smaller than the CALDERA highway). Go always straight for another hour or so and you will get to an intersection called LIMONAL. You turn left here. You will know that you are at this intersection because there is a gas station on your left, and a huge statue of a bull and a monkey on your left also. (This is a restaurant, which specializes in meat. It is a good place to eat, and if you are traveling with kids, its great as it has a closed in kids park for the children to play in. The bathrooms are also very clean and nice). Keep going straight for half an hour, you will go over the Tempiske bridge, keep going straight for another half an hour, and you will come to a T intersection (there is a gas station on your right). Take a right and go straight for another 20 minutes. You will then get to NICOYA. You will see this because there is a big intersection with some blinking lights. Turn LEFT. You are now entering the town of Nicoya. Go always straight for about 10 minutes, and you will exit the town of Nicoya. Keep going straight and look for signs for Samara (there is a little y in the road – just keep to the right). Now you are on the road to Samara.
