President’s Welcome

Welcome to the 33rd VHRR Phillip Island Classic “Festival of Motorsport” this weekend, the 10, 11, 12 & 13 March 2022. At this years event we celebrate a very important milestone in Historic Motor Sport in Australia being the 50th Anniversary of VHRR. This is a significant achievement and one which we are all very proud of. VHRR remains #1 in Historic Motor Sport. At this 2022 event our Clerk of Course will again be Michael Herlihy, who is very experienced and capable in the role, and I extend thanks to both Michael, his Deputy and to all our Classic Race team who will manage the “on track” activities over the weekend. I also express sincere thanks to the hard working VHRR Phillip Island Race Committee, and the VHRR event Management Team all of whom have worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of this event. We are of course delighted to welcome back our Spectators and thank them all for the support that they have shown us over many years. Thanks also to all of the volunteer Officials, Scrutineer’s, Flaggie’s, Fire & Rescue Team, Recovery Team, Medical Crew, Grid, Pit & Gate & Paddock Officials without whom this event would not take place. We will have cars from Grp J K & L, M&O, Grp C & A, Grp N, Grp S, Formula Ford, Form Vee, early and late model open wheelers and big banger sports cars plus also a few F5000. We will have some early 5 Ltr SuperCars, as well as Regularity cars. We will not have any cars from overseas in 2022, so it will be an all Australian affair. Thank you to our “local” Victorian competitors, many of you are regular entrants and have been coming to the Island since this events inception. It will also be great to welcome entrants from all over Australia, WA, SA, TAS, NSW & QLD. Without all of you supporting us we simply do not have an event. Our thanks to the Phillip Island Circuit Management and Staff for their continuing support of this event and for the magnificent presentation of the venue. Finally our thanks to the continued support of our Sponsors large and small, and particularly SHANNONS, PENRITE, COOLDRIVE & BURSON I wish everyone an enjoyable and safe weekend of great Historic Motor Racing. Ian Tate OAM Chairman VHRR Phillip Island Race Committee and VHRR President 2022
