Introduction

I came out of the fortified walls I looked ahead to see the massive world, where I have to struggle I was terrified I then looked back and saw my father standing strong and observing me. I made a little U-turn, and again turned back. I moved ahead…. I walked, slower, and then faster and finally I ran to face the challenges in the world. My father was still observing me. I gained momentum, and went up the hill, higher and higher to reach the top. As I was climbing, I saw that fortified wall covering me up from behind. That was my father, the mightiest and the most trusted person in my life The most secured wall for me

WHAT IS TRUST?

Trust is defines as “firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of someone”. ‘Trusting somebody’ gives strength to a person, irrespective of age and gender. It provides a strong bonding between two persons.

In my childhood, sometimes during play, when my father used to throw me in the air and then catch me, I used to laugh and enjoy. There was never a fear of falling down. This was the trust… the trust I had on him.

Emile Gaboriau, the French writer and novelist of nineteenth century, said – “A father is the one friend, upon whom we can always rely”.

WHAT IS SECURITY?

Security is ‘a state of being free from danger or threat’. A person feels secured with another person when he does not expect any danger or threat from him and ensures safety for staying with him

During my early childhood, my father made me walk holding my hands Then I walked faster holding his hands There was never a slightest fear in my mind But, while crossing a road, a stream or when climbing a hillock, I see him promptly holding my hand. What may be the reason?

The answer is very clear. My father used to ensure my safety and also to make me feel secured.

Father And Child

The relationship between a father and a child is like ‘A Fort and an Insider’ An insider holds greatest sense of security while inside a fort Likewise, a child feels most secured while with father

There are great fathers in various legends and history. In my mind comes the tale of a great father described in Hindu mythology.

After birth in the jail, the life of Lord Krishna was in danger. Demon ‘Kansa’ decided to kill the infant as he had heard that the infant would kill him after few years. Both the parents were in the jail. With the Divine power, the shackles and doors of the jail got unlocked. Basudeva, the father of Lord Krishna, took him in the dead of the night to a safest place entering in to the flooding river ‘Yamuna’ and heavy downpour He dared to enter into the flooding river without caring for his life

Though the legend says that everything happened due to Divine power of Lord Krishna, the actions of Basudeva show that the life of the child was secured by the father.

MY FATHER - THE WALL OF TRUST AND SECURITY FOR ME

Yes, I said - I walked with my father holding his hand. But, he preferred to hold my hands while crossing a road, a stream or when climbing a hillock. Oh, perhaps he felt that my hand might get loose, but his strong clutch would never go loose…

That was the thought of my father for his child, the ultimate care that he took for me

We are eight children of our parents We grew up within his fortified walls I have never felt any discrimination of my father towards any of us - his children. He took care of each of us equally. He tried to help all of us to the best of his capabilities, and also went on helping us till his death. I consider him as one of the great fathers I have ever seen.

Once, I read an anonymous quote which influenced me a lot. I must write down it here.

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way”

Yes, a guiding light is always trust worthy and ensures security too

Conclusion

A father is like a fortified wall for his children, within whose safety premises, the children grow fearlessly. I would like to conclude with a nice quote on father by Ama H. Vanniarachchy, the Sri Lankan scholar and writer:

“A father’s tears and fears are unseen, his love is unexpressed, but his care and protection remains as a pillar of strength throughout our lives”
