Pocket radio looks to new markets
Launching today, Sepura’s STP9000 series of TETRA hand-portable radios is designed to drive efficiency improvements across users’ operations, while also enhancing their safety and security. Features include IP67 protection, built-in RFID tag to assist resource management, highly-sensitive GPS capability, and choice of user interface.
Cassidian’s new TETRA radio is just 19mm deep, so is aptly named the TH1n. The size, weight and ergonomics are designed to appeal to potential TETRA users in new sectors, such as social workers and health care personnel who have the option of joining shared public safety networks but do not need a heavy-duty radio. Equipped with appropriate accessories, the compact TH1n is also suitable for covert use.
There are three models in the series: the STP9000 with full keypad and colour screen; the STP9100, with a reduced keypad and colour screen, and the STP9200, offering a reduced keypad and monochrome screen.
IP65 protection means reliable performance in demanding environments and 1.8 watt output power provides extra reach when network coverage is at its limit or when Direct Mode Operation (DMO) is used. The repeater feature in DMO enables teams to build a voice connection between users who might otherwise be out of reach of each other.
The IP67 environmental protection rating means that the STP9000 radio will still function after being submerged in up to a metre of water for up to 30 minutes. With this in mind, Sepura is targeting the marine, fire and rescue, open-cast mining and heavy industrial sectors, where a fully robust TETRA radio is required. The STP9000 series can be seen on Sepura’s Stand E401. Sepura’s new STP9000 series

The TETRA World Congress 2012 opens today against a backdrop of continued growth and expansion in the TETRA industry. Figures from IMS Research show that in 2011, the market for shipments of TETRA terminals increased by more than nine per cent over 2010. This makes 2011 the TETRA market’s most successful year to date. Significant growth is being seen in regions outside Europe – and the fastest growing region is Africa and the Middle East. Public safety remains about 65 per cent of the global market. IMS Research is also predicting growth in the TETRA infrastructure arena, with TRX shipments forecast to grow by 5.9 per cent CAGR and base station shipments by four per cent CAGR to 2016, again with significant growth in non-European regions.
