Welcome to Denmark Dear Delegate, First of all I warmly welcome the TETRA World Congress 2003 and all its participants to Denmark. For the event to be taking place here seems very appropriate as Denmark has always been focused on being in the forefront with regards to introduction of modern technology within telecommunications. In Denmark the radio spectrum is managed by the National IT and Telecom Agency, and as the Director General of the Agency I am very pleased to see that there is a transition from analogue radio technologies towards digital radio technologies, as this ensures a more efficient use of the spectrum. I do hope that the TETRA World Congress 2003 will have some fruitful discussions with good results, and I hope that the fact that the conference is

taking place in Denmark will stimulate the development of TETRA in Denmark. Hopefully this will help to demonstrate the advantages of TETRA to a wider public, and also help to ensure that TETRA becomes the success it deserves in Denmark.

Copenhagen’s buses choose TETRA The Greater Copenhagen Authority has chosen TETRA as the technology for its new digital radio communications network in the Copenhagen metropolitan area. Motorola has announced earlier this month that it has been awarded the contract to provide integrated voice and data communications between the metropolitan transport fleet of 1,200 buses, 2 ships and 30 trains. The network, according to Motorola, will help provide smoother operations in areas such as resource management, customer information (arrival times, locations) and security systems. Aiming for high standards “The introduction of digital radio communication will provide revolutionary opportunities to improve cross communic

ation between buses, trains and subways. The objective is to establish a new set of standards for communication within public transportation services,” says Mads Lebech, Chairman of HUR (Hovedstadens Udviklingsråd). TetraNet, the network operating company owned by Motorola, will be providing the network for this new service. Don’t miss the bus A presentation looking at ‘TETRA Communications for Transport in Copenhagen’ will be part of today’s conference programme: 17:05 - Transport & Utilities Stream. The presenters are HUR’s General Manager for IT, Mogens Buch-Larsen and Gert Vestergaard from NIRAS. If you want to hear more about HUR’s operational experiences with TETRA, make sure you take your seat early. World Congress News is brought to you by
