What Are You Waiting For? Psalm 40:1–5 Additional Scripture Readings: Psalm 130:5–6; Jude 20 We wait for everything. For the dryer to finish. For our husbands to get home. Waiting to become married. For the phone to ring. For the baby to wake. For the mail to come. For a car to pull up, returning our child safely home. For a job. For answers to prayer. With so much experience, we’re remarkably unskilled at waiting well. Waiting seems to us a colossal waste of time. But the fact is that while we are waiting, God is working. To move us where he wants us to be. To re-just the lives of others so that his ultimate desires will be fulfilled. To bring about what will make us eventually Christ like, though not necessarily immediately comfortable. What are you waiting for? And more to the point, how well are you waiting for it?

• Luke 10:38-42 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC) • • 38 Now while they were on their way, it occurred that Jesus entered a certain village, and a woman named Martha received and welcomed Him into her house. • 39 And she had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was listening to His teaching. • 40 But Martha [overly occupied and too busy] was distracted with much serving; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me [to lend a hand and do her part along with me]! • 41 But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; • 42 There is need of only one or but [a]a few things. Mary has chosen the good portion [[b]that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her. •

Her Promise The story of David and Bathsheba outlines in graphic detail the horror of sin and where it leads. David's first step toward sin leads to adultery, lying, deceit, murder, and, finally, the death of a son. The link between sin and restoration comes when David admits his sin and Nathan says the Lord has taken it away (2 Samuel 12:13). How much guilt is Bathsheba's isn't clear; however, when God tells them through the prophet Nathan that he loves their son Solomon and wants him to be called Jedidiah, the restoration is Bathsheba's as well as David's. If God could forgive this terrible sin of David, don't you think he could forgive your sin, whatever it may be? 7

Bathsheba Her name means: "The Seventh Daughter" or "The Daughter of an Oath" Her character: Her beauty made her victim to a king's desire. Though it is difficult to discern her true character, she seems to have found the courage to endure tragedy, winning the king's confidence and eventually securing the kingdom for her son Solomon. Her sorrow: To have been molested by a supposedly godly man, who then murdered her husband. To have suffered the loss of one of her sons. Her joy: To have given birth to five sons, one of whom became king of Israel after David's death. Key Scriptures: 2 Samuel 11:1-12:25 Her Story Bathsheba squeezed the sponge, moving it rhythmically across her body as though to calm the restless cadence of her thoughts. Normally, she looked forward to the ritual bath marking the end of her monthly period, but tonight the water soothed her skin without refreshing her spirit. She should be glad for the cool breeze. For flowers. For a lush harvest. But spring could also yield its crop of sorrows, as she well knew. Spring was the season for armies and battles. Once the rains had ceased and the harvest had been gathered, men marched off to war, leaving their women behind. Bathsheba shivered as she stood up. Though her husband, Uriah, was a seasoned soldier, she still worried about him, wishing she could fall asleep in his arms. But he was camped with the rest of the king's army beneath the open skies of Rabbah, an Ammonite fortress some forty miles northeast of Jerusalem. The king rose from his bed, unable to sleep. Pacing across the palace roof, he gazed at the city below. Jerusalem seemed calm, a city at peace with itself though at war with its neighbors. Soon his soldiers would gather a great harvest of Ammonite captives, laborers for his expanding kingdom. The casual observer might have thought David a man at peace with his growing power. Instead, the king could not quiet an increasing sense of discontent. Then, in the half-light, David noticed the figure of a young woman bathing in the walled garden of a house below him. He leaned against the outer edge of the roof for a closer view. Wet hair curling languidly against skin soft as lamb's wool. Breasts like rounded apples. He reached as though to steal a touch. Unaware of watching eyes, the woman toweled herself dry and stepped into the house. He waited and watched, but even the king could not see through walls. Over the next few days, David made inquiries and discovered that the vision had a name: She was Bathsheba, the wife of one of his soldiers, Uriah the Hittite. He sent for her. She came to him and became pregnant with his child. Fearing discovery, the king ordered Uriah home from battle. But the soldier surprised him by refusing to spend the night with his wife: "The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my lord's men are camped in the open fields. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!" So David convinced Uriah to spend another day in Jerusalem, managing to get him drunk. Surely the wine would overcome his scruples. But it didn't. So David played his last card, entrusting Bathsheba's husband with a letter to Joab, commander of the army. It read: "Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die."

8

• •

So Uriah died by treachery, and David claimed Bathsheba as his wife, her child as his own. One day, the prophet Nathan approached David, saying: "There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup, and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him. "Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to him." David was incensed: "As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this deserves to die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such a thing and had no pity." Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house.' " David's lust for Bathsheba marked the beginning of his long decline. Though God forgave him, he still suffered the consequences of his wrongdoing. His sin was a whirlpool that dragged others into its swirling path. And despite David's prayer and pleading, God allowed the son David had conceived with Bathsheba to die from an illness. But why did Bathsheba have to suffer along with the man who molested her and murdered her husband? Though the story gives us little insight into her true character, it is hardly likely that Bathsheba was in a position to refuse the king. In Nathan's parable, in fact, she is depicted as an innocent lamb. Why, then, have so many people painted her as a seductress?

(Jonah Bio) His name means: "A Dove" His work: He was a northern kingdom prophet. His character: Jonah must have been a gifted communicator. Why else would God choose him to preach repentance and grace to the pagan city of Nineveh? But Jonah was a proud man, a rebellious prophet, and a sulker. His sorrow: Jonah was sad that the Ninevites had repented and that God had granted them mercy. Jonah would have preferred seeing these pagans punished for their sinfulness. His triumph: That God had spared his life from the belly of the fish. Key Scriptures: The book of Jonah; Matthew 12:38-41 A Look at the Man Prophets often scandalized God's people, ill-prepared as they were to hear the unvarnished truth about their spiritual condition. But in Jonah's case it was the prophet who was scandalized, not by another prophet, but by God himself. For one day he heard God issue an incredible command: "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me." Could God possibly mean it? It was one thing to endure mockery and ridicule from your own people whenever you preached repentance, but going to the capital city of Assyria was dangerous, perhaps deadly. The Ninevites, after all, were a violent and ruthless people who had already brutalized many Israelites. What's more, Jonah despised them. So, like a rebellious teenager, he ran away, except that he wasn't fleeing his parents, he was running from the Creator of the universe. But, as Jonah soon discovered, you can't outrun God. Instead, he found himself surrounded by the entrails of a great fish. There in the darkness, Jonah was ready to pray. "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help and you listened to my cry…. You brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God…. Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good." From inside the fish, Jonah was calling his fear, his defiance, his pride, and his willful disobedience by a new name: "idols." And he was identifying the ship, the storm, and the fish as something they had never been called before: "grace." And once Jonah acknowledged these truths, God gave him another chance to obey, and the great fish vomited Jonah onto dry land. Even though Nineveh was probably more than five hundred miles away, Jonah headed for the city. In the same way he had prepared the fish to swallow the prophet, God prepared the people for Jonah's message. "The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth to show their sorrow for their sin." But now, instead of rejoicing at the way God had used him, Jonah acted like a spoiled child. Although he had taken God's message to the Assyrian capital city, he had no mercy for the people himself. He would have much rather watched Nineveh burn than have seen its people repent and avert God's judgment. He believed God's gift of grace belonged exclusively to his own countrymen. How little did Jonah perceive the nature and intentions of the living God for whom he spoke. His running and his sulking demonstrate how little he understood about God's great compassion and his desire to forgive anyone who repents of his or her sins. Reflect On: Jonah 2 Praise God: For his grace—in its many forms. Offer Thanks: For God’s call on your life and his willingness to make certain that you hear his voice. Confess: Your own foolishness and rebellion, remembering that nothing escapes his watchful eye. Ask God: To fill you with a renewed gratitude for his presence and love for the lost.

God Strengthens Us Through Others “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31–32) What about the other ten apostles (not counting Judas)? Satan was going to sift them too. Did Jesus pray for them? Yes he did. But he did not ask the Father to guard their faith in the very same way he guarded Peter’s. God broke the back of Peter’s pride and self-reliance that night in the agony of Satan’s sieve. But he did not let him go. He turned him around and forgave him and restored him and strengthened his faith. And now it was Peter’s mission to strengthen the other ten. Jesus provided for the ten by providing for Peter. The strengthened becomes the strengthener. There is a great lesson here for us. Sometimes God will deal with you directly, strengthening your faith alone in the wee hours of the morning. But most of the time (we might say ten-elevenths of the time) God strengthens our faith through another person. God sends us some Simon Peter who brings just the word of grace we need to keep on in the faith: some testimony about how “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Eternal security is a community project. Whenever God encourages your heart with the promise that in Satan’s sifting your faith will not fail, then take that encouragement and double your joy by using it to strengthen your brothers and sisters. _______________________________________________________________________________

Peter His name means: "Rock" His work: A career fisherman on the Sea of Galilee. His character: Peter was a determined and impetuous man who became bold in his witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His sorrow: Like many impulsive people, Peter's greatest enemy was his mouth—speaking without thinking. This landed him in all kinds of trouble. His triumph: The leadership of the disciples, the spread of the gospel to the Gentiles, and his martyrdom for the Savior he loved. Key Scriptures: Luke 9 A Look at the Man Simon Peter had heard about Jesus. Living close to the Sea of Galilee, as Peter did, it would have been hard to miss him. But Peter's career kept him busy. Being distracted by the Teacher wouldn't be good for business. Then one morning, as Jesus walked along the shore with the usual crowd of people surrounding him, he stopped and, without warning or permission, stepped into Peter's boat. Imagine the fisherman's shock when Jesus said to him, "Push out into the deep and drop your nets." "But, Master," Peter protested, surprised that Jesus knew his name. "We've been up all night fishing and haven't caught anything." Jesus turned to look at Peter with a glance that for the next three years would become familiar. "Okay," Peter sighed. "Because it's you, I'll do it."

17

• •

The moment the nets drifted below the water's surface, they filled with fish. Peter called for a second boat. But the nets were so full of fish that both boats nearly sank. Suddenly Peter made the connection between the miracle and his own wickedness. "Go away, Lord," he pleaded as he fell to his knees. "I'm a sinful man." The Master must have instantly bonded to this rough but tenderhearted fisherman. "Don't be afraid, my friend," Jesus said to him. This may have been the first time anyone had ever said these words to this brave man. Then Jesus added, "Follow me." The most outspoken and visible of Jesus' disciples, Simon Peter was a remarkably complex man. He was impulsive, brash, thickheaded, courageous, tough—and fearful. But there was a special place among Jesus' closest followers for this man. We have no record of there being an election of officers, but the gospel writers put Peter's name first when they list the disciples. He was their designated leader. And there was a special place in Jesus' heart for Peter as well. He was the only disciple who received a new name—a nickname. "Blessed are you, Simon son of John," Jesus announced to him one day. "Now you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church. And against my church, the gates of hell don't have a chance." But like the man who carried the name, the word rock had many faces. Certainly there was the kind of rock that provided stability—bedrock on which the church was to be built. But there was the rock that represented shallowness—an impediment for the seed to grow. There was the rock that got in the way of progress—the stumbling stone of offense. And there was the rock that was many Jews' weapon of choice. And in a contemporary setting, rock sometimes refers to a precious gem. Jesus couldn't have given Simon a more appropriate moniker. But any instability that marked the man prior to Jesus' resurrection was permanently erased once he touched the risen Savior and heard his call once more: "Follow me!" It was Peter who stood at Pentecost and preached a radical conversion message. It was Peter who, like his Lord, healed the sick—even his shadow had healing power! It was Peter who confidently stood before the antagonists in the Sanhedrin, the same men who later murdered Stephen. "Salvation is found in no one else but Jesus," he declared. "There's no other name under heaven by which we must be saved!" It was Peter who was singled out for an extremely unpopular assignment—to take the message of salvation to non-Jews. Peter, whom King Herod imprisoned for his refusal to stop preaching the Good News, was miraculously set free by an angel. And it was Peter whose death, Jesus said, would "glorify God." While ministering in Rome, Peter was arrested by Nero and was later tried and crucified. However, unwilling to be killed in the same sacred way his Master had died, Peter requested that he be crucified upside down. His wish was granted, and God was glorified. Reflect On: 2 Peter 4:12–13 Praise God: For his love. Offer Thanks: For the wonder of a Savior who meets us where we are and transforms us by his Spirit. Confess: Your inconsistency in wanting to follow him but so often neglecting to be his unfailing and faithful ambassador. Ask God: For the will to be in his presence daily and to find in that encounter his redeeming power.

“ Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?" Job 7:12 This was a strange question for Job to ask of the Lord. He felt himself to be too insignificant to be so strictly watched and chastened, and he hoped that he was not so unruly as to need to be so restrained. The enquiry was natural from one surrounded with such insupportable miseries, but after all, it is capable of a very humbling answer. It is true man is not the sea, but he is even more troublesome and unruly. The sea obediently respects its boundary, and though it be but a belt of sand, it does not overleap the limit. Mighty as it is, it hears the divine hitherto, and when most raging with tempest it respects the word; but self-willed man defies heaven and oppresses earth, neither is there any end to this rebellious rage. The sea, obedient to the moon, ebbs and flows with ceaseless regularity, and thus renders an active as well as a passive obedience; but man, restless beyond his sphere, sleeps within the lines of duty, indolent where he should be active. He will neither come nor go at the divine command, but sullenly prefers to do what he should not, and to leave undone that which is required of him. Every drop in the ocean, every beaded bubble, and every yeasty foam-flake, every shell and pebble, feel the power of law, and yield or move at once. O that our nature were but one thousandth part as much conformed to the will of God! We call the sea fickle and false, but how constant it is! Since our fathers' days, and the old time before them, the sea is where it was, beating on the same cliffs to the same tune; we know where to find it, it forsakes not its bed, and changes not in its ceaseless boom; but where is man-vain, fickle man? Can the wise man guess by what folly he will next be seduced from his obedience? We need more watching than the billowy sea, and are far more rebellious. Lord, rule us for thine own glory. What does the Sea say right now in your life? Amen. 20

Global Team Work

Global Teamwork

Christianity Ecclesiastes 4:9 "Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor." When individuals work together, they can double their strength and get much more done as a team. They also reap the value of having worked in agreement, thus creating harmony instead of disorder. Working as one people begins with the efforts of each person, as they work with another person.

22

• •

Proverbs 27:17 "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend."

A team has checks and balances, one person watches the other one's back. They help them if they falter or lose sight of the goal, just like in friendship. A good friend isn't someone who always agrees with you, what you do, or what you say. A real friend is someone that is willing to challenge you, to be better as a person. A team player encourages his fellow team mates to be better players. Teamwork and friendship both work in very similar ways Peter 4:10 "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

• •

Each person has something unique and special to offer as a human being, so we must recognize the many gifts that have been created through God's love, together our team has many options and great things to share with one another

Ephesians 4:11 "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers."

Just like the many cultures and peoples of the world have their great minds, speakers and teachers. So does each team have great players, some destined to greatness and some that will be leaders taking their team to high places. Teamwork relies on everyone knowing the position and fulfilling it.

Arise up leaders just like you did with King Josiah. Allow them to be warriors and conquerors in the spirit just like King David. Allow them to worship you in spirit and truth. Allow them to inherit the land just like Joshua, and Caleb. I Command every Angelic Angel to watch over our children, and keep them as the apple of your eye Oh God. We know you are visiting some of them in their sleep now, like you did King Solomon. Not one word will fall to the ground, and we shall suddenly see a quick change in our children in Jesus name. Devotion for Married Couples. How to change your Husband by Joe Beam?

31

• • • •

• •

“I can’t live with him anymore. Even his smallest quirky habits drive me insane. He has got to change.” “She needs to stop being so emotional all the time. One minute she is happy, the next minute she’s sad. I can’t handle being around her.” “I really wish my husband would lose some weight. But he’s too lazy to go to the gym. I wish he would change!” Unfortunately, statements like this have become ‘the norm’ in modern day society. Lunch out with the girls easily turns into listing all the things they want to change about their husbands. An all-male poker night leads to the unveiling of marital dissatisfaction. Even during workplace conversations and dinner out with friends, people openly reveal what they wish their spouse would change about themselves. What is worse is that spouses even say these things to each other. It is common for one spouse to willingly tell the other that if he/she would just stop doing this, start doing that, or do something differently, the marriage would improve. You’ve possibly even said this to your spouse. You probably thought, “I’m doing him a favor” or “Shouldn’t she want me to find her attractive?” You assumed you were being a hero. But in reality, you were being a dictator. You cannot change your spouse and stating how you wish your spouse would change leads to controlling him. And no one wants to be controlled. The message of change conveys, “I want you to be different. You aren’t good enough as you are.” When you desire for your spouse to change before you can be satisfied with him or her, then you do not accept them. You only accept the person you wish they would be. This is not to say that you cannot wish great things for your spouse and be lovingly supportive of positive changes they wish to make. Do this abundantly. But also be sure to let your spouse know that you love and appreciate him or her for who they are right now. In fact, the only person you can change is yourself. You are the only person that you have real control over. So instead of trying to change your mate into the perfect human specimen, look inward. What is it about yourself that you need to work on to make you a healthier, happier and kinder individual? If you accept others for who they are, they change. If you accept yourself for who you are, you change.

Most evil and hurtful attitudes in church and workplace is caused by gossip

Stones are thrown every day, yet many do not realize when they are the ones throwing them. These stones come in the form of gossip and the result is unending conflict infiltrating the world today. In O.C. Isom’s new book, “WOUNDS CAUSED BY GOSSIP Attitudes and Conflicts Within the Church and the workplace,” he details how to overcome being wounded by gossip. We must realize the core of our problems we face today stem from gossip and affect many, causing them to be wounded and sometime left spiritually dead. Many people can endure all kinds of physical affliction, but when our spirit is wounded, it can be very painful. Isom has dedicated his life to educating others on the emotional pain caused by gossip that has brought about division, emotional wounds and conflicts. Wounds Caused By Gossip illustrates the seriousness of negative words and the toll they take on one’s spirit. With much negativity words and gossip in the world, it is easy for one’s spirit to become damaged, hardened and wounded. It is for this very reason Isom has spent numerous years seeking groundbreaking solutions with help of God to restore pride and peace within the church and workplace. O.C. Isom shares transforming ways and strategies deals with evil attitudes, challenges, hardship and drama that everyone face in church and workplace. Readers will discover the effective keys to communication and listen that will build character, strengthen the moral for growth. Time out for slander, unforgiving, hatred and believers are separated because negative words. We must be uplifting, edifying and encouraging one another in kingdom of God. “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear” (Eph 4:29).

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane •

• • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Jesus Christ Prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane and it was recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. These three distinct Gospels record this significant event within Jesus’ Life. Three times, Jesus stated in Matthew 26: 39, 42, 44 “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Three Tines Jesus stated in Mark 14: 36, 39, 41, “And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt. Twice Jesus stated in Luke 22: 42,44, “saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done.

• Jesus Prays in Gethsemane • Saint Matthew 26:36-46 KJV • • 36 ¶ Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsem'ane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. • 37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zeb'edee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. • 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. • 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. • 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Jesus did the will of the Father, God instead of his own Will. This was the main point. The Second main point is that Jesus told us to Pray, lest we fall into temptation. Lastly, Jesus Tells us that we need to Pray, Watch and not be caught sleeping when we are supposed to be On the wall and seeking God the Father face. Jesus challenged us to last longer than an hour When we Pray and Worship him.

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. 44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

• Jesus Prays in Gethsemane Mark 14:32-41 KJV 32 ¶ And they came to a place which was named Gethsem'ane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy; 34 and saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. 35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt. 37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. 39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. 40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him. 41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

Jesus Prays in the Garden • Saint Luke 22: 39-46 KJV 39 ¶ And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done. 43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

• Jesus Christ Prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane and it was recorded in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. How Can Anybody, Become Somebody • • • •

HOW ANYBODY CAN BECOME SOMEBODY Introduction The experiences in the ministry have shown that there are many souls out there who are crying everyday for all kinds of breakthroughs. There are hundreds of people searching for jobs, works promotions, life partners, financial breakthroughs… Like the seed that the farmers plants, the goal one sets today often takes a long time to mature. That is when despair sets in and people resort to all kinds of methods to achieve their success. Some seek their success and others wipe out their frustrations through drugs, witchcraft, sorcery and other earthly methods. Beloved in the Lord! Dear reader! Let it be known to you that the Bible is full of stories of men and women who ascended to the mountain of success from small beginnings, those who sought their rise through divine protection and direction. Beloved brethren, with Him one does not think failure but success. How one can find salvation and success through God is the ultimate question that this teaching sets to answer.

Part I: CATCH A VISION

This teaching is an attempt to teach with the aid of the Word of God how to achieve success in life. God intended that every man born into this world would be successful. He planned that every man should be fruitful, increase in number, fill the Earth, and subdue it. SUCCESS, GOD’S WAY Generally there is a great misconception about what success actually entails. Many have regarded indices of success to include: owning a good car, living in a fine mansion, wearing a good pair of shoes, silk ties, silk shirts, designer suits; having expensive furniture; or possessing a large church. Such notions have often caused many people to develop inferiority complexes about their own modest acquisitions. Unfortunately, some even go further and consider their lives as total failures, while others are completely mesmerized by the opulence and magnificence of the attainments of their colleagues. Fortunately, by the standards of the Almighty God, SUCCESS is not measured by one’s possessions. Success is achieving God-given goals, plans, purposes, and vision. No one can say that Mother Theresa, that dear nun who chose to live in poverty in India to provide a shelter and care for the poor, was not successful. At birth, God gives everyone a plan, a blueprint and a purpose. Your life should therefore be judged as successful when at the end of it, you are able to look back and see that these divine goals and purposes have been accomplished.

Before the birth of Jeremiah, God declared: “The the Word of the Lord came unto me, saying, before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou cometh forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and ordained thee as a prophet unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:4-5) May it be known to you as you are reading this article, that it is very important to discover and know your God-given vision, plan and purpose and to aim at achieving it. Many people go through striving and struggling to acquire all the cars, buildings, wealth, and possessions they can. At the end of it all, they find out to their uttermost shock and dismay that their acquisitions have been in vain. Their lives are totally devoid of the sense of fulfillment and success that normally comes to those who achieve their God-given goals. Those who achieve their life purpose can always boldly declare with the Apostle Paul: “I fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord… shall give me at that day… (2Timothy 4:7-8) When Jesus Christ died a young man of 33 years, at an age that most people would term tender, He loudly proclaimed on the cross at Calvary, “It is finished” (John 19:30). He was extremely bold about this proclamation because He knew He had completed His God-given assignment. He had totally achieved the purpose for His birth and life. He died a totally fulfilled man. Therefore, to succeed in life, you need to catch a vision. Visions are born in prayer and meditation on the Word of God. In catching a vision, there are few simple things you can do, and this chapter will endeavor to help you. May it be known to you that: “The greatest tragedy to befall a person, is to have sight but lack vision” Helen Keller (a blind person) Beloved, if you want to become somebody and achieve your God-given plan, vision, purpose in life and finish as a totally fulfilled person, STAY GLUED TO THIS MAGAZINE.
