Le plus grand festival de sports d’hiver au monde a besoin de l’alliance de trois éléments clefs: une scène internationale spectaculaire, les metteurs en scène les plus expérimentés au monde et la distribution la plus internationale jamais réunie pour les Jeux Olympiques d’hiver. Salzbourg, pendant des siècles un joyau lové au coeur des Alpes, est devenue une cité internationale d’un grand modernisme, à la croisée des chemins d’une «nouvelle Europe». Une ville où la culture est omniprésente et pourtant à la pointe de la technologie et des affaires internationales. Aucune autre ville n’est mieux adaptée que Salzbourg pour se voir conférer la possibilité d’accueillir la plus grande des manifestations sportives. La candidature de Salzbourg a été élaborée par une équipe de jeunes professionnels énergiques, choisis avec soin, qui ont derrière eux tous les habitants de la ville et de la province de Salzbourg et qui bénéficient du soutien total, financier et émotionnel, de tous les partis politiques représentés au parlement autrichien. Le peuple autrichien désire ardemment montrer au monde entier sa passion pour les sports d’hiver, son aptitude sans égale à organiser des manifestations sportives internationales de grande ampleur et sa faculté d’intégrer sa culture originale dans une manifestation planétaire. A Salzbourg, les Jeux Olympiques d’hiver ne se contenteraient pas de revenir à leurs origines authentiques, au coeur des Alpes, mais ils acquerraient une nouvelle dimension. En puisant dans cette expérience et ce savoir-faire, le comité de candidature de Salzbourg s’assurera, au cours des sept prochaines années, que le nombre de pays pouvant participer aux Jeux Olympiques d’hiver augmentera de 20 % en 2010. Des Jeux Olympiques d’hiver à Salzbourg apporteraient plus aux Jeux et au Mouvement Olympique que les éditions passées des Jeux d’hiver. Dans le présent volume, nous allons passer en revue, dans le détail, le calendrier des compétitions et des entraînements lors des Jeux Olympiques d’hiver et nous allons montrer, une fois de plus, la richesse de notre région en sites sportifs de niveau mondial. Deux semaines après la clôture des Jeux Olympiques, Salzbourg sera en mesure d’accueillir les Jeux Paralympiques d’hiver les plus spectaculaires jamais organisés. Notre relation étroite avec le CIP et l’expérience de notre pays qui a déjà, par deux fois, accueilli les Jeux Paralympiques (Innsbruck 1984 et 1988) feront de l’édition de 2010 à Salzbourg, une édition mémorable et d’un niveau de qualité jamais atteint. Mais avant tout, les Jeux Olympiques d’hiver et les Jeux Paralympiques d’hiver ne seraient rien sans les étoiles qui brillent à leur firmament: les athlètes. Le comité de candidature de Salzbourg a choisi d’aménager trois villages olympiques séparés pour héberger les athlètes et veiller ainsi à ce qu’aucun concurrent n’ait plus de 20 minutes de transport à parcourir pour atteindre son site d’entraînement ou de compétition. Les athlètes seront au coeur des Jeux de Salzbourg.

The world’s greatest winter sports festival requires the combination of a spectacular international stage, the world’s most experienced stage managers and the finest and most international cast ever assembled for Olympic Winter Games. Salzburg, for centuries the shining jewel of a city in the heart of the Alps has become a highly sophisticated international centre at the crossroads of the expanding ‘New Europe’. A city rich in culture and at the top of technology and international business. No city is better suited to be awarded the opportunity to host this greatest of all sporting occasions. This bid has been put together by a hand-picked team of young, energetic professionals, with the whole support of the people of the city of Salzburg, the region of Salzburg and the full financial and emotional backing of all the political parties in the Austrian Parliament. The people of Austria have a burning desire to demonstrate to the world their passion for winter sport, their unchallenged capabilities in the organisation of major international events and their ability to integrate their own very special culture into an impressive global event.
Winter Games in 2010. Salzburg Olympic Winter Games would offer more for the Games and for the Olympic movement than any Games that have gone before. In this volume we will look in detail at the competition and training schedules for the Games and will once again confirm the wealth of world class winter sports venues that this region is able to offer. Two weeks following the completion of the Games, Salzburg will be able to host the most spectacular Paralympic Winter Games ever. Our close working relationship with the IPC and the experience gained by Austria from hosting two previous Paralympic Games (Innsbruck 1984 and 1988) will ensure a memorable Paralympics in Salzburg, raising these Games also to a new level. First and foremost though, the Olympic and Paralympic Games are about the stars of these spectacular stages – the athletes. The Salzburg bid has chosen to create three separate villages to accommodate the athletes, thereby ensuring that no competitor needs to travel for more than 20 minutes to reach his or her training or competition site. These Games will put the athletes at the centre.
The Olympic Winter Games in Salzburg would not only bring this great event of winter sports back to its cradle in the heart of the Alps but would elevate the Games to new heights. No other country in the world can offer the wealth of experience that Austria can. No other country in the world has more professional ski instructors working in all corners of the globe than Austria. Utilising this experience and expertise the Salzburg bid will, over the next seven years, ensure that 20% more countries will be capable of competing at the Olympic
