Aker and Mainstream to collaborate on green hydrogen in Chile

Aker Clean Hydrogen and Mainstream Renewable Power (MRP) have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on the development of green hydrogen and low-cost ammonia production in Chile. The LOI leverages on Aker’s hydrogen capabilities and Mainstream’s strong position in Chile’s wind and solar power generation market. Aker Horizons announced the acquisition of a 75% equity share in Mainstream for €1bn in January 2021.

President Ivan Duque has said Colombia is expected to reach a wind and solar generation capacity of 1GW by the end of 2021. Current capacity from the two sources stands close to 100MW, as of February. A key pledge of his administration is to achieve a 14% share of wind and solar capacity by the end of his term, which concludes in 2022.
