UK and Europe news Regional update
Following everyone adapting to a new way of operating, the EIC team has been working hard to provide members with the highest level of service; ensuring that we Jo Cam pbell are keeping everyone up to date on the latest energy sector news, connecting companies by e-networking and providing a platform of EIC LIVE e-vents. May was an extremely busy time for the UK events team, with hosting between one and two LIVE e-vents weekly. We launched our very popular series of open forums, offering companies an exclusive opportunity to access leading market information from industry specialists from the comfort of their own home. Our first open forum focused on operations & maintenance, giving attendees the opportunity to find out more about the EIC and how we can help find new O&M opportunities through the use of EICAssetMap and EICSupplyMap. We also worked with the sales team to host an open forum on 15 May, focusing on how to build business development strategies through the use of EIC platforms. If you would like further information on these e-vents or EIC platforms, please contact jo.campbell@the-eic.com We were delighted to have over 200 attendees register for our opportunities in the nuclear industry on 5 May. This e-vent heard from Sellafield Ltd, Rolls-Royce, Doosan Babcock, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Nuclear AMRC – discussing how companies could support the overall international nuclear new build and decommissioning plans. EIC do not only host our own webinars, but we also work in partnership with our member companies. On 20 May KBR and EIC ran an extremely successful e-vent that focused on energy transition, and how the industry is driving towards a sustainable energy mix. Lloyd’s Register and EIC held a panel session with an expert line up of speakers, providing insights and best practices on managing and optimising ageing assets. Following the launch of our Decommissioning Insight Report, written by Senior Upstream Analyst Diveena Danabalan, we held a focussing on decommissioning interactive webinar addressing the importance of supply chain expansion out of the North Sea. We are here to help so do let us know if there are any topics you would like to be updated on. Stay home, stay safe, stay positive. Regional news
Impact of COVID-19 on Europe’s onshore wind sector Since COVID-19 drastically hit Europe and showed its cataclysmic aftermath, the ensuing impact on some onshore wind companies’ operations in the region has been unavoidable. In April, Vestas and Siemens Gamesa suspended their 2020 guidance, citing uncertainty on future implications from the outbreak. Manufacturers were seeing difficulties in production facilities for mechanical and larger components, due to temporary freezes and protocol changes to assembly processes. However, a number of announcements were made that show the sector still standing strong, providing hope for little impact in the long term. In Q1 2020 Nordex secured 1.6GW of new orders, with 1.3GW from Europe alone, and Vattenfall also announced healthy Q1 profits. Spain in particular has shown progress despite being one of the more critically impacted countries from the virus. Following a short-lived halt, a number of Spanish factories restarted production including Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Nordex and LM Wind Power, as well as the construction pause on all onshore wind projects lifting in Spain.
