Organised in partnership with the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, our eighth webinar focused on Financing Energy and Infrastructure Projects in Brazil on 27 August. Representing Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), speakers Cleverson Aroeira and Alexandre Siciliano gave insightful presentations. They currently have 77 mandated projects focused on various areas such as energy and infrastructure, which accumulate over US$39bn. On behalf of UK Export Finance (UKEF), Brazil’s country head Maria Luqueze explained what the eligibility requirements to receive their support are, emphasising that companies must have a minimum threshold of 20% UK content, which can be goods, services or intangibles.

Petrobras reviews E&P CAPEX forecast

Brazil’s national oil company has announced that it will invest US$40-50bn in exploration and production between 2021 and 2025. The company previously envisaged an E&P capital expenditure of US$64bn between 2020-2024. Under the new plan, Petrobras plans to allocate 71% of total funds to pre-salt projects in the Santos Basin. The Búzios field alone will receive 35% of total funds. The company has said it will prioritise projects with a maximum breakeven of US$35 per barrel.

Gas law approved in Chamber of Deputies

The lower house of the Brazilian Congress has approved a new legal framework for the natural gas sector.

On 10 September we proudly received Heftos Oil and Gas. This new Brazilian company, created in 2019, is a subsidiary of UTC Engineering, focusing on brownfield oil and gas. Key speaker Mr Telmo Ghiorzi, Director of Business Relations presented an overview of current projects, such as the two year C&A offshore project, operated by Trident Energy, and the revamp of the Gabriel Passos refinery, belonging to Petrobras, with a total price of US$10.6m. Telmo also featured their supply chain demands and provided direct points of contact for procurement, business development and institutional and technical affairs. The bill, which has yet to be approved by the senate, is expected to unlock more than US$10bn in investments.

Argentina proposes gas pipeline to Brazil

Energy authorities in Argentina have unveiled plans to build a major pipeline linking gas fields in the Vaca Muerta shale province to the Brazilian gas pipeline network. The project, which would be built in three stages, calls for a 2000km, US$5bn pipeline from Tratayén in the country’s Neuquén province to the city of Porto Alegre in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state.
