LIFE SHAPE Notation Studio


Introduction

‘‘You just need to live and life will give you pictures.’’ -Henri Cartier Bresson In this society, we all need to work to survive. Even though reality is ruthless, I still think I can not forget to chase my own dream, to live like myself. I spend time on my interest, I take photos, I film movies, I play musics, and I do architecture. This idea inspire me to make this notation theory. I attempt to translate my thought and perspective into theory, and then combine my interest with architecture.

Beauty, which does not exist in objects, but exists in the ripples and shades of the haze produced by objects and objects. -In Praise Of Shadows

Architecture is not only composed by Brighness and Darkness, but by the Gradient between them.

I Love Photography, it became one of my way to see this world. The sunlight is streaming through the Window, and shadow silently project in the space. How to design this simple thing? How the light come from? How dose it go through architecture? I design the architecture with photography theory. Refraction / Reflection / Diffusion / Aperture / Shutter / Iso

Yilan Site is at the middle of many fields, Yilan. Beside the site is a small river which is very clean. The people here wake up early to do farming. They are all close to the land , water , nature. I once have lived here for two month, and have a preious

experience.

‘‘Form follows the Gradient of space.’’ Working and Living at a same building.Ripples and shades of the haze produced by the light through water. Create an atmosphere of serenity and gentle emotion. You can see a Chromatic Gradient in the Notation, which is related to the atmosphere. Light / Water / Nature Reflection / Refraction / Diffusion all show in this notation. As the space is not always bright, you can be more concentrate at the texture, quality, beauty of object.

A faint or wavering light. Vaguely flicker in the darkness.

A Day begins, you see the space getting brighter.

Light shines through the small river, and gives the space morning sunshine. Reflection of river keep sparkling and many ripples of shadows fufill the space.

Light enter from the window and then go through water, have some reflection on the ceiling, and diffusion on the tilted wall, also some refraction to the next space

č’™太弇 Montage

Montage is one of the main narrative means and means of expression in filmmaking, as opposed to long-lens film expression methods. A series of shots taken at different locations, from different distances and angles, in different ways. In a broad sense, montage is editing, which means editing some of the photographed shots into a movie plot, depicting character. With the role of montage, the film enjoys great freedom in time and space, and can even constitute film time and film space that are inconsistent with the real time space.

Montage

Design many ways to experience the history museum. You might simultaneously see the gallery and listen the old factory’s sound or go through a gallery but also feel you were like the fuels in the conveyor... When you were in the theater / gallery / live house, you will perceive different things be placed together. Might be old building structure , old facility , nature , illegal construction , gallery , museum , live house , theater.

坢ĺ˘&#x; Ruins

Abandoned Architecture lay on the green land, Nature invade architecture. I observe this phenomenon, and have some conclusion: Unstable, Undone, Growing/Dying, Incompleted, Asymmetry, Potential. I try to find a balance between nature and architecture, thinking about their relationship. And I want to design an Living Architecture.

Hostel

Gion is a famous attractions, a historic place. Here has many old wood house which is really fascinating but also creat a problem of abandoned building. So I design a hostel to invite tourist come to live and see the beauty of old houses.

Ruins

Steps of Ruins:

1.Broken / Remain Decompose the origin stucture, some remain and some goes to next step.

2.Blur / Misplace Elements might change material, function, shape. Some replace others, some were opposite, some combine with others.

3.Overlap / Refactor Different things reconstruct with an new order which is really living.

Hide in the old town, like a forest inside building.


Close to neighbor, Intimate with water.

Design use a lots of material from surrounding building. Because some of them were abandoned. Like wave board from roof, wood panel from wall, slabs from floor... These material reorganize in a new dynamic order.

The wall broken, take other tattered ceiling panel to rebuild. The Roof collapse, gather other wood board to recover...

You can’t clearly define the boundary of wall, ceiling, floor. The Threshold is incompleted and unstable.


Light comes suddenly. There is nothing you can anticipate . But everything is dynamic and alive, have an undisturbed fascination.

Whoo~Whoo~ 白色噪音

I’m wondering what if we can perceive the city with hearing but not vision. How will the city become? Car passby , Wind blowing , People talking... The sounds does not just influence your hearing, or just some objective existence, but really reform the whole city.

I once have a experience when I got my hair cut at Hair salon. I take off my glasses and lose all my vision. I can only sense the space with glimmer and sounds. This experience really impress me that I sometimes intentionally block out my vision to really feel the different world.

Conch

White Noise


Conch collect all sounds into a small space, and then frequency countervail each other. Afterwards, you can hear the sound of sea waves which is produced by white noise.

I try to collect the sound of city by different way to make different white noise, and to create atmosphere of every specific space.

Thermae Venice have many attractive activities, like Water Traffic , Fish Market, History building. There is no car and motorcycle here. So the pedestrian can freely walk in the city and more concentrate on every things. I want to design an Thermae. An anti-vision program.

Land from a ship, Pass by a Piazza, Walk into a fish market, you notice some strange thing at ceiling...some steam... some noise... attract you to go into.

Whoo~Whoo~ You walk in to Thermae with misty fog and gradually losing sight... You do not perceive the city with your vision, but with hearing. Architecture is like an conch. Gathering all the sounds in the city. Fish Market , Port , Piazza , People Passby , Seagull , Gondola ship Rain , Wind , Seawave... The shape of space make the sound reflection and then Amplitude Cancellation. Every Noise will become white noise. Form the space atmosphere.

Invite the sound of city into space. Different size, direction, angle of hole. Different radius, height, width of space.
