Substance - reimagined

As a consequence of primordial origins, the essence of architecture continues to be act, interaction and confrontation more than an appreciation of visual imagery. By this, not just human interactions are elements of the search, but a palpable tension within a space, a landscape or a cityscape. It is that tension that wants to be captured, it is that tension one wants to encounter. It is that tension one wants to remember, that tingle and its state of mind, in order to create a new line of contemporary relevant visions. The trigger to such sensation is the essence of that space. It is personal and acts on your unconcious level. You don’t know it’s there and you don’t need to know. Your focus is distorted. As an architect, your specificity lies primarly in being a catalyst, an initiator, not a receiver. You experience the surrounding space differently. In this visual diary, any elements that can shift the public focus - from what I perceived as being essential - were ruled out. Such factors can be colour, noise or excessive information. Most photographs represent known places as abstracts. It’s seeing the unseen that becomes an orientation method. Focusing on the intangible rather than the tangible, thus creating a powerful physical experience for the seeker himself, as a pilot-project, is a rather risky task. It may work as a pretext to exploring a new kind of relevance. But why would it make sense to explore what seems to be such an abstract view of the surrounding environment? Because the field of knowledge is much greater today. It is greater than ever and much more intricate, and no one can claim to master it all. But under this pretenses it is vital to aquire relevant knowledge. This represents a start-up exercise in gaining such relevance.
