A season after setting the school record by earning the highest seed in school history at No. 3 for the NCAA Tourney, Florida State tied that mark in 2010-11.

OHIO STATE BUCKEYES

FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLES

Ohio State has been to a school-record nine consecutive NCAA tournaments.

A trio of starters with Iowa roots are expected to lead the Noles in 2011-12: senior preseason All-American post Cierra Bravard, sophomore forward Natasha Howard, a 2010 freshman All-America selection, and sophomore point guard Tay’ler Mingo.

The Buckeyes have won six Big Ten regular-season championships and four Big Ten tournament titles in Jim Foster’s nine years as head coach.

One of the greatest players in Florida State women’s basketball history, Brooke Wyckoff, begins her first season as an assistant coach at her alma mater. Wyckoff, who played eight seasons in the WNBA, was a freshman on Sue Semrau’s first Florida State team in 1997. A major part of the Florida State women’s basketball program is active community outreach. The Seminoles take part in numerous community service projects, including Samaritan’s Feet shoe distributions. Head Coach Sue Semrau and her assistant will coach a game barefoot during the conference season for awareness for the organization, which collects shoes and gives them to underprivileged children across the world. Bravard made 156 free throws a year ago, which is tops in the ACC. She shot an impressive 78.8 percent from the line a mark that ranked third in the ACC among players with 100 or more attempts.

Illinois returns its entire team from last season. In five years under head coach Jolette Law, the Illini have never lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament, have posted a 7-4 record at the tourney and twice reached the semifinals.

ILLINOIS FIGHTING ILLINI

Itoro Coleman begins her second season as the head coach at Clemson after going 10-20 in her first season.

CLEMSON LADY TIGERS

The Lady Tigers’ freshmen class was ranked 30th nationally by ESPN Hoopgurlz. Four of the five players were ranked three-stars or higher, led by Natiece Ford, who is ranked 47th nationally.

Karisma Penn was one of six players last year and two among BCS schools to average at least 17.5 points and 10 rebounds per game.

In trying to rebuild the program, Coleman now has three former Lady Tigers on staff, including herself, Kanetra Queen, and graduate assistant Morganne Campbell.

Amber Moore set an Illinois freshman record by making 65 three-pointers on the season, the fifthbest single-season total by an Illini player in history.

The Lady Tigers return just one starter from last season – Shaniqua Pauldo. Pauldo is the leading returning scorer for the second straight season and the lone returning starter each of the past two years.

SHANIQUA PAULDO

KARISMA PENN Karisma Penn broke Illinois’ single-season blocks record in 2010-11 and is on pace to become the Illini’s career leader in that category.

DUKE BLUE DEVILS

In the last 15 years, Purdue has amassed the seventhhighest win total among NCAA Division I teams.

In 2010-11, Duke hit 34.3 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Blue Devils return five studentathletes this season who hit 14 or more treys, including Chelsea Gray (33), Tricia Liston (28) and Shay Selby (23).

The Boilermakers are the only team in the Big Ten with a national championship in women’s basketball. Purdue has been in the top 10 in home game attendance for the past 16 seasons.

ALLISON VERNEREY

BRITTANY RAYBURN

The Hoosiers are 2-2 alltime in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge coming off last year’s win on the road at Clemson.

INDIANA HOOSIERS

The Joanne Boyle era begins at Virginia in 2011-12. Boyle is only the fourth head coach in the 38-year history of the Virginia women’s basketball program. A four-year letterwinner at Duke, she joins Itoro Coleman (Clemson), Sylvia Crawley (Boston College) and Katie Meier (Miami) as former ACC women’s basketball players now serving as head coaches in the league.

VIRGINIA CAVALIERS

IU will be the road team for the second-consecutive season in this year’s Big Ten/ACC challenge, but Indiana is a perfect 2-0 in challenge games that take place away from Bloomington. The Hoosiers won at Miami, 69-54, on Dec. 5, 2008, and were also triumphant at Clemson on Dec. 2, 2010, with a 65-51 win. Defense has been the key in each of Indiana’s challenge wins in the last four years. In each victory, the Hoosiers have held ACC opponents to under 33-percent shooting from the field, forced an average of 19.0 turnovers in each game and collected 10 steals in each contest. The Hoosiers return nine letterwinners from a year ago and welcome five newcomers to the 2011-12 team. Only two of the returnees were on the roster in each of IU’s Big Ten/ACC Challenge victories, senior Danilsa Andujar and redshirt junior Sasha Chaplin. Indiana head coach Felisha Legette-Jack has been at the helm of the Hoosier progrm for each of the four installments of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. She is one of nine Big Ten coaches who have been a part of each annual challenge.

The Cavaliers return four of their top five leading scorers from 2010-11, including senior Chelsea Shine, senior and recipient of last year’s ACC Sixth Player of the Year Award Ariana Moorer, and returning ACC AllFreshman team member and sophomore Ataira Franklin.

Miami returns its complete starting five, including two of last year’s All-ACC first-teamers in Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams.

Michigan State is coming off its first outright Big Ten regular-season championship in program history. The Spartans previously won titles in 1997 and 2005 as co-champions.

MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS

MIAMI HURRICANES

Miami’s No. 3 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament was the second-best seed in program history behind the No. 2 seed earned by the 1992 Hurricanes, who reached the Sweet 16 that season. The NCAA appearance was the seventh in school history.

Suzy Merchant was named Big Ten Coach of the Year last season. Returning senior Lykendra Johnson was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, while graduate Kalisha Keane was Big Ten Player of the Year.

Miami head coach Katie Meier was named the ACC Coach of the Year after leading her Hurricanes through the ultimate turnaround -- from finishing 12th in the league in 2009-10, all the way to sharing the league’s regular season crown last season. Meier, then in her sixth season, picked up several high-profile postseason awards for her success on the year. Meier was tabbed by the Associated Press as its Coach of the Year, sharing the award with Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma and Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer. Last year’s 12 ACC wins for Miami marked the most for the program since joining the league to start the 2004 season. The previous high for wins in the ACC was six during the 2005-06 season, with the team finishing sixth in the conference. Returning senior guard Shenise Johnson had one of the best seasons of any player in the country last year, earning a litany of awards for her efforts. In addition, Johnson has been named the 2011-12 ACC Preseason Player of the Year.
