The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival organization is a volunteer-based nonprofit committed to providing free events for the community year-round. In addition to their signature spring event, they also produce Cork & Fork, a premier food and wine event, Fall Dogwood Festival, complete with craft beer and food trucks, and the Fayetteville After 5 summer concert series. The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival was recently named “#1 Event in the Southeast” by Southeast Festivals and Events Association.

Fayetteville Dogwood Festival April 25 - 28, 2019 • Free Admission The annual Fayetteville Dogwood Festival is Fayetteville’s biggest party! Head to Festival Park and Downtown Fayetteville the fourth weekend in April for four days of free concerts, food, a street fair, anchored attractions, art exhibits, street performances and more! Featuring: • Cork & Fork – premier food and wine event in Festival Park on Thursday • Boom & Bloom – a long-standing tradition, the Friday night kick-off party is complete with a marching band performance and fireworks finale • Street Fair – beginning Saturday, April 27, more than 150 arts & crafts and food vendors, as well as street performances and fun activities for the whole family, line the streets of Downtown Fayetteville • Kids Activities – more than ever for kids, including the midway carnival, a designated kids area with bounce houses and train rides, and an area with rock climbing and bungee jumping • FREE entertainment – free concerts in a wide variety of genres all weekend (past performances featured artists ranging from Parmalee and Rob Base to Tom Keifer and JoJo)

Cape Fear Studios, Inc. (CFS), a cooperative of visual artists, is a nonprofit arts organization located in historic downtown Fayetteville. Their mission is to involve, educate, and enrich Cumberland County and surrounding communities with the opportunity to create and freely view art. They welcome visitors to their main gallery and retail gallery to find beautiful paintings, photographs, sculptures, pottery, wood and glass art, and fine jewelry by local, national, and international artists. Exhibits are presented at no cost to the public, and educational opportunities are offered to the community through workshops, classes and mentoring.

This photography exhibition and competition is based on the touchstone words – Commitment, Sacrifice, Courage, Service, Dedication, Strength, Heroism – found on the public art walls of North Carolina Veterans Park. The exhibit coincides with the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center’s online exhibition of the contributions and stories of 100 veterans and 400 community supporters statewide, whose hands served as models for the Wall of Oath and community columns in the North Carolina Veterans Park.

Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum
There’s something for everyone – from history enthusiasts to families looking for fun – at this unique museum, housed in a restored 1890 railroad depot. Local history exhibits highlight people, events and places that impacted this area. To transport you back in time, there’s the model train room, vintage cars and interactive steamboat exhibit. The Museum also hosts a downtown farmers market.

Visit the Market House Museum
Opening August 21, 2018*
The Market House, which is Cumberland County’s only National Historic Landmark, is open to the public during Fayetteville’s 4th Friday celebrations, from 6 to 10 p.m., and the second Friday of the month from noon to 4 p.m. Explore the exhibit A View from the Square: A History of Downtown Fayetteville, which features dozens of historic images and information about the community. In addition to the permanent exhibit, a different local history exhibit each month.
Marking the 100th Anniversary of the establishment of Camp Bragg in September 1918, the Centennial exhibit traces this military training camp from its founding through World War II. Artifacts and photographs depict the remarkable growth of what would become our nation’s largest military training center during World War II, highlighting its impact on the Fayetteville community.
Fayetteville Fire Department Opening Fall 2018* This newly expanded exhibit in the Museum Annex is devoted to the history of the Fayetteville Fire Department. Learn how the all-volunteer force established in 1791 has grown into a team of proud, professional first responders who help keep Fayetteville safe. The exhibit features numerous artifacts, including two restored Fayetteville Fire Department vehicles, an 1880s Silsby horse-drawn pumper, and a 1920s LaFrance fire truck.
African American Businesses in Fayetteville February 2019 - January 2020 This new exhibit highlights the community’s African American history. From its early days, Fayetteville had a small but substantial free Black population, many of whom were engaged in business throughout the Downtown area. The exhibit traces a number of prominent and prosperous African American business men and women from the antebellum period through the mid-Twentieth Century. *The main portion of these exhibits will become permanent at the Museum.
Special Events City Market at the Museum Downtown comes to life with the open-air market for local farmers and crafters, hosted on the grounds of the Museum every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fresh, locally grown vegetables, fruits, eggs, honey, and other farm products are offered for sale. Visitors can purchase these seasonal offerings – along with plants, flowers, pottery, tea, coffee, soap, candles, jewelry, and other handcrafted products. Peak season is April through November, but vendors appear year-round.

Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra
Established in 1956 as a volunteer community orchestra, FSO has grown to become a highly touted professional orchestra, led by Music Director Stefan Sanders. Royal Court of Brandenburg Thursday, November 15, 2018 • 7:30 p.m. St. John’s Episcopal Church Revel in the balanced beauty of the Baroque in a program of beloved masterpieces by J.S. Bach and Antonio Vivaldi. Bach’s six Brandenburg Concertos were a royal gift to the court of Brandenburg in 1721; they have remained some of the greatest and most beloved compositions of the Baroque era. FSO musicians and Music Director Stefan Sanders perform the third and fourth Brandenburg Concertos, along with portions of Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B Minor. Also on the program is the bright and lively Concerto for Two Trumpets by Antonio Vivaldi. 1897 Poe House
Tour the home of an affluent Fayetteville family and learn about life in the early 20th century, including the roles of women and children, African American history, and technological and social changes that shaped the era.
Arsenal Park One of five arsenals commissioned by the U.S. government to expand defenses after the War of 1812, the Fayetteville arsenal became the property of the new Confederate States of America during the Civil War. It was destroyed in 1865 by Union troops under the command of General Sherman, but visitors today can explore the remaining historic ruins.

Collecting Carolina: Montagnards, Vietnam’s Central Highlanders Spring/Summer 2019 Artifacts, collected by a Vietnam veteran, depicting the traditional culture of this indigenous ethnic minority, whose tribes became close allies of American soldiers during the Vietnam War. On loan from the North Carolina Museum of History.
