On 25th October 2017 The Asian Today won Publication of the Year at the prestigious Asian Media Awards which took place at the Hilton hotel Manchester. The Asian Today is The Longest running free newspaper that targets the south asian communities. Based in the Midlands The Asian Today has continued to maintain a high level of local journalism by featuring a range of stories challenging perceptions of the Asian Community. The newspaper was launched in 2002 offering a platform for the community to voice their views and concerns. A free copy of the newspaper is available every month, however the online edition is updated with current news on a daily basis ensuring readers are up to date with news that matters to them. The publication focuses mainly on current events, encouraging community interaction and dialogue as well as provoking debate and discussion. Ifraz Ahmed - Editor In Chief said: "It is always an amazing feeling when you get recognition for the hard work that you do, it endorses that what you are doing is being done well, to a high standard and for the right reasons. It was truly humbling and was honoured to win the award for the second time, we won the award at the inaugural awards back in 2013. "As a news publication we
believe it is our responsibility to tell the stories of the many voices most publications choose not to. We thrive on good community stories, stories that matter to our communities, that will help in creating a cohesive community. Our moto has always been ‘Promoting Education, Diversity & Integration’ - a statement that we feel we have been delivering for the past 15 years. "The journey started in 2002 when I felt that not enough was being done by other media to highlight positive stories in our communities. Soon after setting up the publication I was lucky enough to team up with Anita Chumber who has been integral to the success of the publication, she has been with the publication from the start and seen all the highs and lows. We stand shoulder to shoulder and I would like to thank Anita for her dedication & support over the past 15 Years, here’s to another 15. "I would also like to that everyone that has been part of The Asian Today family & journey past & present, you know who you are. Then she came up and spoke to me, and she started crying again. “She was really touched by my story.” Moin is also an ambassador for Acorn’s Children’s’ Hospice, and despite being in constant agony he volunteers to help other seriously ill children. A staunch Villa fan, Moin also is a regular as a pundit for Aston Villa’s website. Moin has admitted that last year things spiraled for him after becoming critically ill – and felt hopeless struggling to see life improving for himself. Thankfully Moin has pulled himself through the difficult time and he wants to now inspire others to ‘Keep going
as good things will come’. “I had a really tough year last year,” he revealed. “I lost all my energy to live and I was in a depression. “I was in hospital and I was thinking ‘Why don’t I just get taken from this world?’ “Now, I realise that everything happens for a reason. I got through that time and got to experience the happiest day of my life. “So you should never give up, because there could be something amazing coming in your life. “All you have to do is have a bit of patience and good things will come.”

£250 vouchers are fake
T
here is a new scam being broadcast via WhatsApp claiming that if you click a link within the message that you will be entiltled to a £250 voucher, which can be used at a Tesco, Asda or M& S store. However this is a scm and not true. Users of WhatsApp
are being told to be vigilant. Asda has already sent out a statement confirming that these vouchers are bogus. The fraudsters are sending out fake Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Asda vouchers on WhatsApp. The WhatsApp message tells users of the service
that, to celebrate Asda's 68th anniversarry, the retailer is offering everyone a free £250 voucher. The message states - All you need to do is click on a link and fill in your details. There are two tell-tale signs the scam is fake: the spelling and grammar mistakes and,
if you manually type in the supposed url mentioned in the offer ( http://www. asda.com/mycoupon ), this page does not exist on Asda website. The scammers can possibly plague your phone with a nasty virus when you click the fake link.

A carjacker who targeted a 90-year-old man as he returned to his car in a Birmingham park has been jailed.
19-year-old Mohammed Subhan was one of three teenagers who attacked him and made off from Kings Heath’s Highbury Park in the driver’s Vauxhall Corsa. Subhan was found in possession of a stun gun when he was arrested after crashing the car. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for 32 months. Police are still investigating several carjackings in south Birmingham. West Midlands Police Force said the victim was left with a bruise to an eye and a cut to his finger. The man spoke to a woman in the park and she called police. Two traffic officers
spotted the Vauxhall Corsa on Kingswood Road around half an hour later, just over a mile away from the robbery, which happened at about 11:10 GMT on 17th March. One of the teenagers and a female fled from the vehicle. Subhan reversed down the street with the car doors open before crashing into a vehicle travelling up the road. He fled but was caught shortly after by a police officer. He admitted robbery, possession of a stun gun, aggravated vehicle taking and use of vehicle without insurance and was jailed at Birmingham Crown Court
last Monday. The case against the 16-year-old boy and 14-yearold boy was dropped. Det Con Tom Lyons, from Force CID, said, “We’re grateful to the member of the public who helped the victim in this case. “There was a speedy response from police which enabled us to quickly arrest Subhan, who showed no remorse on his arrest. “We are still investigating several offences of carjacking around the Moseley area earlier in the year and will do all we can to bring the offenders to justice.”

MIDLAND LANGAR SEVA SOCIETY BUS UNVEILED NOVEMBER 2017

A
former mobile library has been saved from the scrap heap thanks to Midland Langar Seva Society, a Sikh charity which feeds the homeless. The bus will be used to prepare meals to be distributed across the country to the homeless. It will also be a place for shelter and aid for the homeless. The bus was unveiled on the 4th of November when thousands of Sikhs celebrate the birth of the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. A team of volunteers serve over 12,000 meals a week in 17 locations across the UK and also run children’s breakfast clubs. The Midland Langar Seva has been recently recognised for it’s amazing work by being honoured at the Pride of Birmingham Award. in need of food every night of the week. The work of Midland Langar Seva Society is based on the Sikh concept of langar (meaning communal kitchen), which sees free vegetarian meals served in all Gurdwaras (Sikh temples) across the world all day, every day. Founder of the charity Randhir Singh said: “Midland Langar Seva Society was started out of a desire to help however, the more people we helped, the more we wanted to help. It is this desire to do seva (selfless service) that has seen us grow and now have teams across the UK and even India. Guru Nanak Dev Ji started langar 500 years ago and we simply wanted to bring this service outside of the walls of a Gurdwara to ensure it reaches those that need it. With this in mind, we have always been looking for more ways to help and as a team we came up with the idea for a langar bus.
This will allow us to transport enough food to feed hundreds across the UK, whilst also giving us a place we can provide aid and more to those that need it.”

Local Councillor Wants Your Views On Hate Crime
Councillor Waseem Zaffar MBE has teamed up with Tell Mama, an organisation that measure anti-muslim attacks to promote the Birmingham hate crime in the workplace survey. According to West Midlands Police, reported hate crime in the West Midlands has increased by 28% in the past three years. Councillor Zaffar said: “I am particularly concerned about hate crime in the workplace and how employers are supporting their employees as victims of

FORMER BRADFORD POLICEMAN HONOURED AT YORKSHIRE AWARDS Former West Yorkshire Police officer Kash Singh, of East Morton, near Bradford, was presented with the Richard Whiteley Award at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Leeds City Hotel. The award is not made every year but is given as a special accolade when organisers come across someone who, they believe, captures the spirit of Yorkshire like the late TV presenter Mr Whiteley. Mr Singh set up his charity One Britain One Nation in 2012 after a distinguished career in the police force. The charity promotes patriotic events which have so far attracted about 50,000 people. He said: “I am humbled and honoured that my work has been recognised at such a distinguished level and I feel privileged to be associated with the name of Richard Whiteley, such a great Yorkshireman. “My life has been in Yorkshire – it is a fantastic place to live and work. The people are friendly and the scenery is beautiful. “I have created a template for my work in Bradford and my goal is now to take it to every corner of the nation.” Mr Singh, who moved to Bradford from the Punjab
with his parents at the age of six and joined West Yorkshire Police when he was 20. He rose to the rank of Inspector and in 2006 was tasked with restoring order to the Manningham area of Bradford, which had been hit in 2001 by what were described as the worst riots in mainland Britain. Within 18 months he was
Keith Madeley said: “Kash is an outstanding individual who is making a huge contribution to the social fabric of Yorkshire and beyond. Yorkshire Awards committee member Canon
founder of the British Indian Association, said: “From an early age it was my desire to help people and make a difference, and I was always so proud to wear the Queen’s uniform. “I want to encourage all our communities to love our nation and pull together as one people. “When I was policing in Manningham I succeeded in getting 13,500 people
on board. I think being local helped and with my Sikh background I had an understanding of the community and that made a huge difference.” Mr Singh said he and his team of helpers at OBON now wanted to get people united under the national flag – not just during Jubilee celebrations or at the Olympics. “People are shy about bringing out the flag and some people from white communities don’t do it because of how it might be perceived. “Hate crime has increased by more than 50 per cent, tensions are rising, but I am trying to bring out the best in all communities, to bring people together to work in the interests of our country and instil an element of hope and inspiration in future generations,” he said.

Fly-tipping Costs Taxpayers £58m
NEWS
COUPLE PLANNED TERROR ATTACK ON THEIR WEDDING DAY
PLOTTER: Zainub Mirza
At a cost of £58m, more than one million incidents of fly-tipping were dealt with by councils in England in 2016-17. It was the fourth year in a row that incidents increased. Around 56,000 fixed penalty notices were handed out by councils to people caught illegally dumping. The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said household waste accounted for two-thirds of fly-tipping. Between April 2016 and March 2017, there were 1,002,000 cases of fly-tipping handled by councils in England, equivalent to 114 every hour – 66,000 (7%) more than the year before. There was a slight decrease in the number of enforcement actions taken by councils, such as investigations and warning letters. In England in 2016-17, there
were 474,000 enforcement actions carried out, a drop of 20,000 on the year before, although 56,000 fixed penalty notices were given for small scale dumping. In May of last year, all councils across the country were granted additional powers that allowed them to give fixed penalty notices for fly-tipping as well as their existing powers to use them for littering and anti-social behaviour. Birmingham-based meat firm Premium Halal Meat & Poultry was prosecuted at the city’s magistrates court in July 2016 and given the biggest financial penalty of the year – £25,541. The company had to pay a fine and costs after being prosecuted by Birmingham City Council. The most common place for waste to be dumped was at the side of the road.
Defra said two-thirds (67%) of fly-tips “involved household waste”. “Total incidents involving household waste increased by 8% from 2015/16.” In a report accompanying the statistics Defra said, “Many local authorities have started to improve the way they capture and report flytips over the past few years, so the increase over time should be interpreted with some care.” A Defra spokesman said: “Fly-tipping is an unacceptable blight on our landscape, which is why we have cracked down on offenders by strengthening sentencing guidelines and giving councils the powers to hand out on-the-spot fines to fly-tippers. “We have made it easier for vehicles suspected of being used for fly-tipping to be stopped, searched and seized
and will continue to work with local partners to stop this inexcusable crime.” The Local Government Association, which represents councils, said cleaning up flytipping was diverting money away from other services. Its environment spokesman Martin Tett said, “The Government has responded to our call for councils to be able to apply Fixed Penalty Notices for small scale fly-tipping – and this is a big step in the right direction. “When they take offenders to court, councils need a faster and more effective legal system which means fly-tippers are given hardhitting fines for more serious offences. Manufacturers also need to provide more takeback services so people can hand in old furniture and mattresses when they buy new ones.”
Tributes To Boy Killed In Yardley Crash
Heartbroken friends have paid tribute to a 17-year-old boy, named locally as Isam, killed in a crash after a car failed to stop for police. The teenager was a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf which collided with a lorry. A second passenger, also 17, was in a serious condition in hospital after the crash, which occurred on Church Road, Yardley, near the Swan shopping centre, at around 4.15pm on Thursday. A 17-year-old was arrested near the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and theft of a motor vehicle. The lorry driver was taken to hospital but was later discharged. The police watchdog has launched an investigation. Friends expressed their sorrow at the death of Isam on social media. Usman Ali said, “RIP my bro, I can’t believe it. Life is too short. RIP soldier, RIP Isam.” Another friend wrote, “RIP Isam. The good die young.” Elayna Blake sent her best wishes to the teenager’s family saying, “God bless your family Isam. It’s like every other day I know somebody has passed.”
“RIP Isam, you were a good kid! You’re in a better place now,” said Josh Tilley. Wayne Platt wrote, “Sorry for the family who have lost someone dear to them.” Samantha Richards said, “Terrible.” In a statement, West Midlands Police said, “A teenager has died following a collision in Church Road, Yardley yesterday (26 October). “The 17-year-old was a passenger in a car that had failed to stop for police and was involved in a collision with a lorry at around 4.15pm. “The teenage boy sadly died at the scene and a further 17-year old passenger was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition. Independent Police Complaints Commission operations manager Rashpal Pahal said, “Our sympathies are with the family of the teenager who died and everyone else affected by this tragic incident. “We have a duty to independently investigate in these circumstances, and will examine the events prior to the collision to determine whether appropriate policies and procedures were followed.”
A husband-and-wife from Birmingham turned their home into a terror training ground and talked of launching an attack on their wedding day. Ummariyat Mirza, an exaccountant, researched terror acts and bought a steel hunting blade and a rubber training knife, which he used to practice on a dummy at their home. His wife, Madihah Taheer, allowed him to buy a knife using her bank details and reportedly fantasised about beheading newspaper columnist and radio presenter Katie Hopkins. The pair planned to carry out an attack in the UK and had looked at potential targets, including military sites in the Midlands, according to police. The couple were further assisted by Mirza’s sister, Zainub Mirza, who sent the couple an array of extremist material, including footage of a man holding two severed heads. The siblings were arrested by armed counter-terror police on March 29th. The force stopped their Ford Fiesta on Alum Rock Road during the evening rush-hour amid fears their plans were “escalating quickly”. Subsequently, Taheer was arrested on April 24th. During searching of a number of addresses, police found a huge collection of pro-Islamic State material and social media exchanges between the three. Amongst the findings were extremist propaganda videos, including graphic images of prisoners being tortured and executed. Police also recovered a steel hunting knife with a paracord rope attached so it could be concealed under clothing and a body armour jacket. In one exchange between the married couple, Mirza wrote, “The day of nikkah [wedding], I’ll kill ‘em all. Give me the list, the only thing that stops me is we are not married. I will defo, I’m not joking.” 21-year-old Ummariyat, of St Agathas Road, and his sister Zainub, 23, of Eastfield Road, admitted terror offences on the first day of
a trial at Woolwich Crown Court in London on October 9th. On Thursday, Taheer, also aged 21, was found guilty of supporting her husband in his planning. Det Chief Supt Matt Ward, head of West Midlands Counter Terrorist Unit, said: “Ummariyat Mirza’s plan was escalating quickly so the decision to carry out arrests in a busy Birmingham street at rush hour was not taken lightly. “The planning had begun in 2015 but quickly gathered momentum in terms of the volume and especially the nature of the shared material with the majority of videos shared by Zainub Mirza to her brother. “The constant stream of material and supportive comments sent were, we believed, to encourage Ummariyat Mirza to begin acts of preparation for terrorism.
HUSBAND: Ummariyat Mirza
“When Ummariyat Mirza and his sister were arrested, mobile phones were found in the car and at their respective addresses, as well as at other family addresses. “Their devices were examined, and a significant quantity of relevant mind-set material was found on them. “The communications between Ummariyat Mirza and his sister revealed they shared extremist material and praised killings carried out by Daesh. “It is thought Mirza and his wife, encouraged by Zainub, were planning to carry out an attack in the UK, it is not known where this attack would have been, but we discovered research into potential targets, including military sites in the area.” They are due to be sentenced on December 1st.

Marco Hajikypri who was rejected by Dragons’ Den, and then turned down a £90 million offer for his company has had to sell his house and car.
H

Hajikypri used to drive a £50,000 Audi Q7 but now has to borrow his girlfriend’s Smart car. He has sold his house and is living in a rented home and has been forced into putting £90,000 back into his health food business to keep it alive. The situation is a far cry from his success in July earlier this year, when Hajikypri claimed that he had been offered £90 million for his
company Professional Gains. But he turned that offer down because he believed he could do better on his own, but now he says, “I wish I had taken a tenth of that offer now. I’ve had hate mail, it’s been awful.” Hajikypri, who is from Great Barr, Birmingham, was on BBC’s Dragons’ Den last year with his Pro Gains healthy meals service but left with nothing, with Deborah Meaden telling him he’d overvalued his company at £2 million. But just a few months later, Marco had expanded to three units in West Bromwich and employed 33 people

JAS SANSI The Thinking Man's Mouthpiece Photographer and LoveBrum trustee, Jas Sansi brings a dose of all things Birmingham. With an unprecedented love of the city and its unique diverseness, he brings his 6-foot passion to The Asian Today.
THE TIMES OF INDIA: WHAT BREXIT HOLDS FOR THE EVER-DEVELOPING COUNTRY? This time last week, I was unexpectedly in India for the funeral of my beloved aunt. It allowed a few days to reflect on differences between the UK and India; two countries that have shaped many British born Indians like me. Brexit continues to promise exciting opportunities beyond the Single Market as we exit the EU. India is a country with a population the size of Europe but what’s it like as a country to engage and trade with? If you’re a flag bearer for Brexit but have never visited India, you may be in for a surprise; India is not Europe. I’ve enjoyed visiting India for five decades witnessing change. It’s an exhilarating, exciting, white knuckle ride of a country. I miss the chaos of North India when I fly back to Birmingham Airport. Lane discipline is observed on the M6 . The screaming horns of TATA widow making trucks are a distant memory. Not once do I see a roadside cart selling fruit juice or a motorcycle carrying a family of four. The journey from Amritsar Airport to Jalandhar, where I have family is about the same distance as Birmingham to Telford. The road linking Amritsar to Jalandhar gets better every time I visit but never quite gets finished. Relatives assure me once complete, the journey will be about an hour. The completed stretch is faultless, it’s the frequent slowing down at incomplete flyovers, to go off road that stretches the journey time. This is just one example of where our two countries differ. They are at different stages in the development of infrastructure; a key factor in productivity. I wish them every success in their journey, especially now Brexit has tied our economic future to their prosperity. You will never bare witness to the tapestry of humanity as you do in India. I tapped that line into my computer with fingers scalded gathering my aunt’s ashes 48 hours after her funeral pyre was lit.

Teen Tycoon Is Britain’s Youngest Millionaire Akshay Ruparelia, nicknamed ‘Alan Sugar’, reckons he is Britain’s youngest business millionaire – after selling houses during his school lunch breaks. The 19-year-old owns an estate agency, and whilst balancing homework with property development, Akshay still managed to get three A*s and 2 As at A Level. He hired a call centre service to answer his company switchboard while he was in class and rang clients back after the school bell rang. In little more than a year, Akshay’s firm www. doorsteps.co.uk, was attracting investors looking to buy shares. His company is now valued at £12 million, and he has sold £100 million worth of homes. The young man’s friends nicknamed him Alan Sugar, after the British business magnate and star of BBC show The Apprentice. Akshay charges just £99
commission on houses he sells and says he is on a mission to put High Street agents out of business as they charge thousands of pounds. His idea is proving so popular that this week, just 16 months after his web site went live, Akshay’s company became the 18th biggest estate agency in the UK. Doorsteps.co.uk, which he started after relatives loaned him £7,000, already employs 12 people and is set to double in size soon with investors having already handed him £500,000 to get their hands on shares. Akshay’s company is already operating from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands. He is raising £5 million with a share issue and
is recruiting an ever expanding network of mums across the UK who work self-employed showing clients around properties he has been asked to sell. Despite his commitment to running his company, Akshay still managed to get five A Levels, three at A* and two A grades in maths, economics, politics, history and financial studies, at Queen Elizabeth High School in Barnet, London. “I want to rip up the oldstyle way we sell homes in this country,” he said. “People have had enough of being ripped off by High Street agents in flash suits and cars charging them a fortune, but actually doing not a lot to sell their home. “Why give an estate agent a small fortune just for putting photos of your
Walk of Hope The walk of hope mission for Peace & Harmony arrived in Birmingham. The success of the 2015/16 Walk of Hope which covered a staggering 7500 kilometres over 16 months travelling 11 Indian states is once again being undertaken. The founder of Manav Ekta Mission Sri was recently in the UK on a British teaching tour. Sri M visited many faith establishments across Handsworth as part of the Walk of Hope initiative. Sri M took time to learn about the faith buildings and reciting prayer for peace and harmony. The walk commenced at Shree Geeta Bhawan Hindu temple
moving on to Lozell’s Mosque, New Testament Church of God, St. Mary’s Convent, Birmingham Buddhist Maha Vihara, Gurdwara Babe Ke, St. Michael’s Church, and Soho House & Peace Garden and finishing at Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha and The Nishkam Centre. Special invited dignitaries were in attendance including Bhai Sahib Bhai Dr Mohinder Singh, Amrick Singh, Matloob Hussain, Bridget Von Baron from Netherlands and many more who joined the Walk of Hope. When visiting the Lozells Central Mosque Sri M said “I am very privileged to come to the Mosque. I
house on the internet? “Quite rightly people trust mums. Every mum who works for me will be honest and tell the truth. It is important. For the majority of people selling their home is the biggest financial transaction of their lives.” Now he has 1,050 homes for sale on his web site, selling around 30 a week. The most expensive sold for £1.4 million in Notting Hill. Akshay, who lives at home with his parents, has a place at Oxford University to study economics, but has put that ‘on hold’. “At first, I paid myself £500 a month, things are going quite well now so I’ve upped that to £1,000 a month,” said the remarkable young man.
am here thanks to Bhai Sahib, who suggested that as I had done the walk in India, it would be good to also have a walk in Birmingham. “Whatever religion one comes from, if the heart is pure, if you believe in your faith and you bow your heads down to the supreme, then we are all on a religious path.” The walking group was received with open arms and love at every stop on the planned walk, given refreshments and blessings before moving on to the next stop. It was heart-warming to see so many different faiths coming together and showing solidarity for peace and harmony.

Jennifer Lawrence was Forced to do ‘Nude Line-Up’ by a Female Producer When Jennifer Lawrence first started out in Hollywood she was forced to stand knaked next to other thinner women to encourage her to lose weight. After recent sexual harassment cases against the Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein a number of actresses have started to come forward with their own sexual harassment experiences with other Hollywood Executives. Jennifer called the scandal “oddly unifying” for women as it has encouraged them to go public with their stories, adding that it was “fundamental to the female experience to be mistreated and feel ashamed about it”. The 27-year-old then shared her own story from when she was starting out in the industry and was encouraged to lose a serious amount of weight in a short time. “When I was much younger and starting out, I was told by producers
of a film to lose 15 pounds in two weeks,” she said, according to People. “During this time a female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me. We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates. “After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.” The Hunger Games star, who revealed an actress had already been fired for not losing weight fast enough, tried to stand up for herself and went to a male producer to talk to him about the weight loss demands.
SHOCKING! Padmavati in trouble as Rajputana Sangh threatens to burn cinema halls!
Padmavati, one of the most anticipated movies in Bollywood starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead is facing trouble as a Rajput organisation has threatened to butn the cinema halls if the film is screened. The Rajput group have threatened the cinema owners in Rajasthan with dire consequences if the film had any romantic scene between Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji. Here is what Bhanwar Singh
Reta, founder, Jai Rajputana Sangh, said in this regard. “We won’t tolerate any distortion of history and if any romantic relationship is shown between queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, we will burn cinema halls screening the film,” “Our members are trained in handling a large array of weapons ranging from swords to AK 47 guns. We won’t let anyone dishonour Padmavati and insult the people of Rajasthan,” “Our demand is that the

TO BE SOMEONE ELSE Shah Rukh Khan has said that his fame and stardom would be wasted and of no use if gets affected by the success of others. The actor who is now 51-years-old at a recent interview was questioned about whether or not it was diificult to remain unfazed by others' work after being in thre industry for the past 25 years. “What is the point of having
become such a huge star, if you are still going to follow someone else? Or be bothered by someone else, or think about someone else or compare yourself to someone else,” he asked. The successful actor says that he has everything going for him, which is why he does not feel the need to look further than his mirror. “I am sure, I am being presumptuous, but there are a lot of people out there who say ‘wish we become Shah Rukh Khan’. I am Shah Rukh Khan, so why should I want to be someone else?” Khan, who will next be seen alongside Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma playing a vertically-challenged man in Aanand L Rai’s upcoming untitled film, says things are vastly different than when he first started in the industry. He said, “With no money, no house, no future, parents dead, I did what I felt like doing. I had nothing to lose. Now I have everything. One way to look at it is, ‘Oh I have so much to lose’.” “The other way is, ‘I’ve gained so much, even if I try to lose it, it won’t go away.’ If we were so brave when we had nothing, why should we not be equally brave in our beliefs and thoughts in what
we want to do, when we have everything going for us.” “I am not saying I am a pathbreaking guy and I will make people follow me, make them see me as an example. No, I do what I feel like doing. I made the most expensive film in the country ever, knowing fully it won’t recover the money. But I had to do it,” he said. The actor said he is excited by the work of his contemporaries but eventually finds solace in what he wants to do. “My belief is, if someone else has already done it, why do you want to do it? Go for something else… So many people know me, have me on their minds, they have some good and bad things to say.” “I can’t assimilate all and live my life. As an artiste, actor, father, star, it has to be what I feel like in the morning.” Khan also stated that he doesn’t watch as many movies as people might assume being someone heavily involved in the Bollywood industry. “I don’t watch films, my family has now put a condition if I want to continue as an actor, I have to watch two Hindi films in a month. They are like ‘but how can you not watch films? You act, make films, run a company, how can you not?'” The family, he added, has made a list of films that he needs to watch.

We will only give them the go-ahead to release the film after we are satisfied that no scene insults queen Padmavati,” In the meanwhile Shobha Sant tweeted about an incident that involved defacing of Padmavati face by some rowdy elements. She wrote: “How can any1 who claims to ‘protect’ her honour deface her image? @FilmPadmavati.”

FEMALE EMPOWERMENT OF VERNA Verna, the truly moving & thought-provoking Socio-drama from the groundbreaking filmakers of 'Khuda Kay Liye' brings female empowerment to the fore
Rape is one of the most prevalent and heinous forms of crimes against women. According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, astonishingly one female is raped in Pakistan every two hours, which sees the country ranked third from the bottom as the most dangerous for women in the world. In an attempt to spotlight the necessity for female empowerment, critically acclaimed filmmaker Shoaib Mansoor will once again use the medium of cinema to raise awareness, ignite action and create change by producing and directing his
highly anticipated and emotive social drama, Verna, releasing in cinemas on 17th November through Eveready Pictures, one of the first and oldest film production and distribution companies in Pakistan which have played a pivotal role in establishing and reviving Pakistani cinema with over 400 colour and black and white films and HUM Films, a reputable film production and distribution company based in Karachi, Pakistan, working under the Hum Network Group. Verna stars the vivacious and unconventional Pakistani actress Mahira Khan, marking her second collaboration with Shoaib Mansoor after the huge success of the critically acclaimed ‘Bol’. She is joined by Haroon Shahid, lead singer of SYMT, who makes his acting debut in the film. Shoaib Mansoor is renowned for backing projects that not only play a vital role in the revival of Pakistani cinema but also that draw attention to critical socio-political issues, from feudalism and misuse of power to gender equality, as he did with breakthrough films such as ‘Bol’ and ‘Khuda Kay Liye’. Both of his previous outings were appreciated not only in Pakistan but also in India; ‘Bol’ not only became one of the highest-grossing Pakistani films of all time but was also appreciated as Best Hindi Film at the IRDS Film Awards in 2011 by the Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences, a Lucknow-based civil society organization for raising many social issues including the regressive attitude of a male-
dominated society. However, with Verna, Shoaib Mansoor is perhaps set to produce his most hard-hitting and poignant project to date, as he continues his passion-filled quest to implement social change through the art of film. He states, “I believe in meaningful cinema. The subject of all my films are very close to my heart and Verna is no different. It is my ongoing effort to educate both men and women - women to stand up for their rights and men to accept women as their equals.” Rape is often used as a tool for oppression amongst the powerful in society to humiliate and invoke fear among the vulnerable. Bodies of women have become the battle ground for men to fight their battles of honor, power and revenge, leaving women powerless at the mercy of their abuser. The story of Verna seeks to push boundaries and eradicate the stigmas attached to discussing the monstrosities of rape whilst challenging the stereotype and commonly held myths that only poor women get raped, in dark lonely allies by uneducated savages. Verna’s narrative revolves around the life of a highly educated and attractive woman Sara (Mahira Khan), who was born to an affluent family, with

both parents teaching at a university. Out of her ideals of righteousness she goes on to marry a polio-stricken young musician Aami (Haroon Shahid) and they proceed to make a wonderful couple, leading a happy life until their lives are disrupted when they are faced with some extraordinary circumstances. Facing the risk of punishment, marginalization and isolation, Sara looks to take a stand against rapists despite the fact she will have to battle the entirety of the socio-political system. This brave act will see Sara wage an impassioned fight against the powers that be as she looks to put an end to female oppression and sexual abuse against the vulnerable. The hard-hitting trailer has already sparked curiosity and furor to seismic levels across a vast array of media and social media platforms. Powerful and political with equal measure, the short clip gives audiences a tacit taste of the social drama as it jumps from gaiety to grief. The trailer evokes a dense feeling of female empowerment as Sara expresses “I am not just your wife but also a separate individual”. Aside from the emotive drama in the scripting and setting, Verna will also feature music from rap artist Xpolymer Dar and Haroon, releasing on the 22nd October. Haroon’s casting in Verna marks a continuation in the trend of Shoaib Mansoor having multitalented male leads who are also musicians.

NRI TRAPPED BY ‘PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS’, JAILED IN UK FOR TRYING TO MEET 14 YEAR OLD GIRL FOR SEX Balachandran Kavungalparambath, 38, a business manager at Citibank in East London has been given a 15 month sentence for attempting to meet up with a young 14 year old. Online chats show numerous messages shared between the ‘Internet Interceptors’, who posed as the 14 year old girl and Mr Kavungalparambath himself. Mr Kavungalparambath flew from London to Birmingham, checking into a hotel where he was expecting to meet the young girl, but was instead confronted by Internet Interceptors, the team that hunts paedophiles. Two months after this confrontation the Internet Interceptors exposed Balachandran Kavungalparambath through
a live Facebook video, which lead to his sentence, followed by his deportation back to India. Balachandran Kavungalparambath groomed the girl via Whatsapp, convincing her to have sex with him and explaining how her first sexual encounter would be painful. Mr Kavungalparambath is married and a father, denied any intention to have sexual intercourse with the girl; he claimed he only want to have lunch with her and assumed she was 18, blaming her saying that she invited him to come over to the hotel room. “But as I said, I was supposed to have a chat with her, it was not with the intention of getting her into a bed and having sex with her,”
he said. His alleged intention was brought to light as the messages including direct sexual references were read out. The sexually explicit chat revealed Mr Kavungalparambath’s yearning to perform sexual acts which was enough evidence to convince the court of his crime. “I have to leave the country and I will lose my job. I am from India.” Kavungalparambath was heard crying and pleading to the Internet Interceptors and later admitted his intention was to have sexual intercourse with the girl. A pack of condoms and a perfume were found in Balachandran Kavungalparambath’s bag; he claimed the perfume was a gift for the girl and
his objective was ‘not to make [her] pregnant’ yet the meeting was to end with them ‘making love’. The Internet Interceptors said that they had little information on Kavungalparambath. “We called his wife and informed her about this, but she hung up on us.” Internet Interceptors posted a one hour long video of Mr Kavungalparambath getting arrested. Balachandran Kavungalparambath will be listed on UK sex offender register for 10 years and will be given a 10 year sexual harm prevention order. He will be deported back to India after serving his sentence. Citibank has disclosed Mr Kavungalparambath is no longer an employee.

the drink lead to his mother using it to make a batch of Lassi, serving it to 27 members of her family. 15 family members have died and others are in critical condition. The officer also claimed “Aasia concocted the plot to avenge being married against her will and was provided with poisonous substance by her alleged lover, Shahid Lashari”. Bibi first stated a lizard fell into the milk and poisoned it, however later confessed her crimes in court. Aasia Bibi, her lover and her aunt have all been

arrested on the suspicion of participating in the incident. Bibi argued her lover gave her the poison yet she did not use it; she also declined his proposal of marriage. Her vengeance lead to her being charged for murder. The incident took place in the Daulat Paur area in Muzaffargarh in the southwest Punjab region of Pakistan. According to the cases reported to UK’s forced Marriage Unit in 2016, Pakistan has the highest number of forced marriages, and there is little remedies to help the women who are married against their will.
angladesh is planning to introduce voluntary sterilisation in its overcrowded Rohingya camps, where nearly a million refugees are fighting for space, after efforts to encourage birth control failed. More than 600,000 Rohingya have arrived in Bangladesh since a military crackdown in neighbouring Myanmar in August triggered an exodus, straining resources in the impoverished country. The latest arrivals have joined hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees who fled in earlier waves from Myanmar’s Rakhine state, where the stateless Muslim minority has endured decades of persecution. Most live in desperate conditions with limited access to food, sanitation or health facilities and local officials fear a lack of family planning could stretch resources even further. Pintu Kanti Bhattacharjee,
who heads the family planning service in the district of Cox’s Bazar where the camps are based, said there was little awareness of birth control among the Rohingya. “The whole community has been deliberately left behind,” he said, citing a lack of education in Myanmar, where the Rohingya are viewed as illegal immigrants and denied access to many services. Bhattacharjee said large families were the norm in the camps, where some parents had up to 19 children and many Rohingya men have more than one wife. District family planning authorities have launched a drive to provide contraception. They have asked the government to approve a plan to launch vasectomies for Rohingya men and tubectomies for women, Bhattacharjee said. But they are likely to face an uphill struggle. Many of the refugees said they believed a large family would help them survive in the camps, where access to

food and water remains a daily battle and children are often sent out to fetch and carry supplies. Others had been told contraception was against the tenets of Islam. Farhana Sultana, a family planning volunteer who works with Rohingya refugees in the camps, said many of the women she spoke to believed birth control was a sin. “In Rakhine they did not go to family planning clinics, fearing the Myanmar authorities would give medicine that harms them or their children,” Sultana said. Volunteers said they struggled to sell the benefits of birth control to Rohingya women, most of whom came to them for advice on pregnancy complications or help with newborns. The move has been backed by the US President Donald Trump who tweeted “I have great confidence in King Salman and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, they know exactly what they are doing,” “Some of those they are harshly treating have been ‘milking’ their country for years!” Mr Trump added.

Written by: Neelam Heera @cystersbham As you know we had our first Cysters Chat meeting. One of the women who attended wanted to know more about the issues surrounding womens reproductive health, as women without any health issues she was unsure what to expect. Here’s her story, “I recently attended the first ever Cysters Chat Meeting held in Birmingham on the 2nd September 2017. It was a confidential meeting nothing will be shared about their names. I wasn’t too sure on what to expect, but I went in with an open mind. It was a real eye opener and to this day I still think about the women. The Founder Neelam Heera has set this charity up on her own and most of all with no financial help. Neelam’s goal was always to just help women who are going through the same medical issues she was. I’m in awe of her. There aren’t many
Cysters Birmingham
women out there who are willing to help other women; there is always an agenda or possibly something else they will gain from it. Neelam isn’t one of those people. I have watched Neelam work so damn hard to make sure these women are supported. I have seen her take some of these women in her own time to the hospital for their appointments as she knows what it feels like when no one is there to help her and she doesn’t want anyone else to go through that either. Cysters is just a brilliant name for the charity a sisterhood. When I was sat in the room where the meeting was, I remember thinking how brave are these women are. The pain and struggle they endure every day is just heart breaking. It isn’t always about the physical but the mental and emotional trauma they face also. But even talking about these medical issues they get
judged on. Due to the fact it is a taboo subject. But, why is it? It’s a medical condition and this is what a lot of people just cannot understand. I did a lot of research before and after the Cysters Chat Meeting was shocked to find the lack of awareness and also support for these women. 1 in 10 women of reproductive age in the UK suffer from endometriosis. Endometriosis is the second most common gynaecological condition in the UK. On average, it takes 7 years from onset of symptoms to get a diagnosis Meeting these women was an experience for me, I don’t suffer with the issues that they do. But it made me feel grateful that they allowed me to sit and listen to them. But whilst they were talking I felt their pain. Listening to their stories and one part stuck out for me on what I heard. Every time I menstruated I would be incapacitated
Has the world become health crazy???!!! W
e now live in a world that is so ingredient savvy that never have buzz words like vegan, gluten free, cruelty free, dairy free been so poignant thanks to the hashtag and social media influences!!! Is it a good thing or not??? In some cases I've seen the obsession with healthy living can spiral so out of control that people are left miserable, like who doesn't want cake now and then!!! Don't know about you but a slice of chocolate cake tends to diminish pretty much allllll of my problems! On the flip side however,
the focus on better eating and using cleaner, purer products has benefitted many families and the realisation that small changes have huge benefits! Parents are teaching their kids about the effects of over their indulging in bad food, I even heard one young mum tell her daughter that too much surgery drinks will rot her teeth and no boy will ever fancy her! Growing up in the 70's and 80's no one ever taught us about good foods vs bad foods which is probably why the NHS is struggling with self-inflicted health issues.... So, here's the score....
in total agony for days, as well around ovulation. After numerous visits to my GP I was told that what I was experiencing what was ‘a normal part of being a woman’ and that I was just ‘unlucky’. That was coming from a GP diagnosing their patient! I mean how is that showing any empathy to the situation. How is that providing help to the patient? I mean it’s being part of woman? How sexist is that? It really angers me that these women get judged by the authorities that they need to help them. I believe this is why the diagnosis takes so long. There were women in that room all telling their stories of their journeys. I looked to my left and I looked over to my right, and I was blown away they were just powerful insights into their lives. These women are so strong and such role models. All have normal jobs. But no matter how hard life gets them down they get up and carry on. One of the women who I won’t name her story really hit home and opened my eyes on her life, having numerous miscarriages; no support from her work or her own GP/Hospital it was just
so upsetting. It broke down her confidence and lack of trust by the authorities. This poor woman had to go through such terrible losses. Even now she is still standing. Cysters Chat in my opinion is something that is so valuable and very much needed. This is an outlet for women to come together and talk about their experiences that possibly their friends or family just cannot comprehend. So they come to this meeting and if, they really want to vent, cry or talk they can because no one in that room judges. They sit and talk and try find solutions to go forward. I remember speaking to Neelam and I said to her she is a credit to these women. She is helping them and she isn’t doing it for herself but for the women who need someone to talk too. It’s not about publicity to her. All of these women I respect and really admire not because of what they continue to go through but the fact they just carry on. But they also support one another. I am very thankful and grateful for Neelam for allowing me to write about this and letting me attend

the meeting and meet these incredible women. I attended this Cysters Chat and have found it so beneficial and empowering to meet other women in similar situations to each other and it’s a really supportive environment. Due to the help, support and friendships that are made in the groups they all continue to support each other. Meeting other women with reproductive health issues is vital to coping with the illness by sharing stories. The support and empathy they can provide is a wonderful thing. Cysters in my opinion is incredible and it’s tackling taboo opinions of gynae issues. My hat goes off to Neelam Heera for being strong, brave and unstoppable to make sure these women all around the world are cared and supported for. Her vision just makes me speechless because she is driven and passionate for what she believes in. I recently wrote a blog about her because she is a role model to women everywhere.” Facebook: Cysters Women’s Support and Awareness Group Twitter: @cysterbham Website; www.cysters.co.uk
Have You Considered Organ Donation? NHS shows that by the end of March 2013, 3/10 UK active kidney transplantation patients were from BAME communities. • Furthermore last year alone saw an increase in consent from minority communities from 24% to 33% however this is greatly overshadowed by the 61% maintained by the white community. • Median wait times of 1419-1413 days for BAME patients compare unfavourably when considered against the 1092 days for non-BAME patients. Because of these incredibly high wait times more are likely to suffer and not receive a kidney. • Only a small percentage (5%) of deceased donors are from BAME communities • The statistical figures quoted clearly show a great contrast between the donation rates of the BAME communities and the remaining population. Because patients from BAME communities are more susceptible to illnesses such as diabetes, they are more likely to need an organ transplant than the rest of the population, as they are more. There could be a variety of reasons as to why donations are not as high amongst the BAME communities as amongst other groups. People often cite as potential barriers to donation religion, culture and traditions.

ARE YOUR READY FOR GDPR? GDPR otherwise known as The EU General Data Protection Regulation will come into force next year on the 25 May 2018. It will be the de-facto policy for data privacy for all UK and EU businesses. It will replace the long standing Data Protection Act. The remit of GDPR is quite simple, it’s basis is to broaden the rights of individuals data and give access to it, whilst businesses who handle such data ensure it is secure. The idea is for you to be
more in control over you own data and for organisations to adhere to the policies. Failure do to so could result in hefty fines for companies. If all or part of your business operates in the online space, such as eCommerce or taking individuals data in some way shape or form, then you will need to demonstrate you have taken adequate steps to ensure you followed the new guidelines. So, the question remains what should your business be doing

This is not great news for the 43 per cent homeowners on variable or tracker mortgages who face an increase in mortgage payments in the run up to Christmas. Many homeowners who have had a mortgage post 2009 would not have known rates rise above the historic low of 0.5 per cent.
Countrywide estate agents have forcasted that the house prices in London will rise by 2.5 per cent and 4 per cent across the rest of the uk in 2018. “Although there is talk of a ‘London slowdown’, the capital’s property market has changed pace following last year’s stamp duty changes and Brexit referendum,” says Countrywide’s research and analytics director, Johnny Morris.
There will be three new retail outlets opening up soon at LinkStreet, which connects Grand Central and the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham. Property management company Hammersons has signed up Jeweller Summer & Silver to take a init in Link Street until the end of the year. Semmer & Silver are currently based in the jewellery quarter. Also London based unisex fashion house ‘Total ‘Black’ has leased a unit from November until the end of the year. Joining them in the tenancy of
Link Street is ENESS cosmetics which will open up at for the month of December. ENESS cosmetics sells natural and vegan cosmetics and toiletries. LinkStreet is inspired by some of London’s most popular and innovative retail spaces including Carnaby Street. LinkStreet received significant investment in 2015 to makre a hub for contemporary, independent and local retailer to trade from. It currently boasts tenants such as Pretty Green,
Irregular Choice and Ben Sherman. Iain Mitchell, UK commercial director at Hammerson, said: “The brand and retailer curation at LinkStreet continues to develop and evolve and the arrival of these new, unique brands will undoubtedly inject further character into this unique space. Our investment in LinkStreet has enabled us to engage our shoppers with a new experience every time they visit, whilst giving independent and smaller retailers a foothold in a prime regional shopping destination.”

Ferrari FXX-K Evo Launched
O
nly a limited number have been built, will only be available to owners of the standard FXX-K and only a few selected customers. The Ferrari FXX-K Evo has been evolved from the LaFerrari track day FXX-K. The new Evo version has extra downforce and extra exclusivity. This has been specifically built as an ‘extremely limited-run model’, it has the same 6.3-litre KERS-boosted V12 as the standard FXX-K with 1036bhp and more than
900Nm torque, however what makes the new Evo unique is the the aerodynamics. The coeffieciency of the downforce has been increased by 23 per cent over the standard FXX-K and as much as 75 per cent over the road-legal LaFerrari. The significant coefficiency is down to a twin-profile rear fin on the wings and a central fin. They all work together to allowing for an additional 10 per cent downforce. The airflow is improved by the re-designed rear bumper and the underneath
rear diffuser, which helps in increasing the downforce by 5 per cent. Vortex generators have also been introduced to the undertray, which provides an overall downforce of 30 per cent. You can only purchase the FXX-K Evo if Ferrari gives you its blessing, or if you are an existing owner of a FXX-K looking to upgrade. The price yet has nort been announced but with the standard FXX-K costing around 2 million, the Evo should cost over £2.5 million atleast.

Female drink drivers ‘more likely to be pulled over’ It has been reported that women are more likely to be stopped by police over the festive period. The report has come from data that shows that women are more likely to be convicted of drink driving once they have been pulled
over and breathalysed. The news comes as most companies and individual get set to celebrate the festive period. The drink-driving offences have been steadily declining over the past decade, however the figures are still a
concern for authorities with 62% of male convictions and 64% of female convictions driving under the influence. The 45-60 female age group is more likely to be convicted of drink driving offences over the Christmas period.
The Tokyo Motor Show wasn’t dented by a concept car equipped with external airbags that protects the vehicle from being dented in a collision. The Flesby II ultracompact vehicle has it’s body panels covered with soft, next generation rubber. "We put airbags, which are mainly employed inside the car, on its exterior, such as its hood or fender, to protect the entire body," Takashi Ishikawa, managing officer of Toyoda Gosei, said at the Tokyo Motor Show. The idea of the concept car was first thought about in 2013 by Toyoda Gosai, a manufacturer of rubber and plastic automative parts and LED’s. LED lights projected onto the rubber also allow the driver to communicate with pedestrians and other vehicles, the company said. "In the event of contact with a pedestrian, the soft body serves a safety function in absorbing the impact," the company said.

IBRAHIMOVIC: ‘I’M BACK TO FINISH WHAT I STARTED’ ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC SAYS THAT HE IS CLOSE TO A RETURN AT MANCHESTER UNITED, AND VOWS TO FINISH WHAT HE STARTED AND WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic
T
he Swedish striker has been out since April after suffering a knee ligament injury, which ended the striker’s debut campaign at Old Trafford after scoring 28 goals in 46 games. Following a positive rehabilitation process, which has now been ongoing for six months, United opted to re-sign the striker on a one-year deal in August, with Ibrahimovic vowing: “I am back to finish what I started.” The 36-year-old was speaking to Thierry Henry for Sky Sports ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham which United won 1-0 courtesy of a late goal by Anthony Martial. “I said I have come back to finish what I started,” he said. “Everything I built up in the first season – obviously we won the three trophies
– the ending for me was not the ending I wanted, or nobody wanted, especially after how the season went. “The target is the Premier League. That is my target to finish. “Everything I started in the first season, we will finish in the second one.” United started last season by lifting the Community Shied, before winning the League Cup and Europa League later in the campaign, the latter ensuring qualification for the Champions League after Jose Mourinho’s side finished 6th in the Premier League table. Ibrahimovic, however, was absent for the Europa League final after suffering the knee injury in their quarter-final victory over Anderlecht. “In that moment when it happened, it was easier for me to say that I would come back because then I had
a challenge,” Ibrahimovic said. “The challenge was that I never had a major injury, and all these people talking that ‘it’s over’ or ‘he’s too old’, all these doubts that I had in my whole career. “When that happens, it triggers me because it gives me energy and an objective. I’m challenging what I am able to do, how far I can take my body. “In the last years, when you’re thinking how many more years you are going to play, that is where you are hesitating. “But the injury made it easy for me. I had one target, and that is to come back and play the game. “I will walk out just as I came in, I will not walk out limping. “I will walk out the way I want to walk out. Even if I have to walk on water I will do that also.”
Lewis Hamilton Wins
Fourth World Championship Lewis Hamilton has been crowned Formula 1 world champion for a fourth time.
The 32-year-old was hit by title rival Sebastian Vettel on the opening lap of the Mexican GP but secured the championship after fighting back into the points while the German driver only finished fourth. “It doesn’t feel real,” said Hamilton. “I’m really happy with this fourth. I’m going to have to take some time to really think about it but I’m proud
of the flag and everyone who represents it.” Hamilton’s victory makes him the most successful British driver in Formula 1 history. On the all-time rankings, the title draws him level with Vettel and Alain Prost. Asked about the early collision with Ferrari driver Vettel, Hamilton said, “I don’t think I was too aggressive. I put my car in the perfect
position and I left a lot of space for the car behind.” But the pair later warmly embraced in the paddock as Vettel congratulated the Mercedes driver as a deserved champion. “Lewis has done a superb job all year round and deserves to win the title,” said Vettel, 30. Hamilton and Vettel were forced to pit at the end of the first lap but Hamilton emerged a further 30 seconds behind the Ferrari and facing a long afternoon fighting back into the top ten. “It was a horrible way to do it, to be honest,” Hamilton said. “I had no idea what was going to happen to the championship.” “I hope those that are watching are happy with this year’s result and I’ll continue to rise it as high as I can.”
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he would like to manage on the international stage at some point.
Jose Mourinho
Mourinho Speaks Of Desire To Manage Internationally The Portuguese coach was speaking to Soccer AM’s Tubes ahead of Manchester United’s league clash against Tottenham. The 54-year-old has enjoyed ground-breaking success in a managerial career which has spanned almost two decades, winning 25 trophies during spells at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and United. His success has seen him linked with the top international jobs throughout his career,
namely England and his native Portugal. When asked if he would like to move to international football management, he said, “There will be a moment in my career where I would prefer that nature of job, being more analytical and preparing a team inside doors but competes less. “The experience of living a World Cup or European Championship from the inside is an experience I want to have after so many years I’ve had in football.”
As for club football and which competitions held the most prestige, he said, “For everyone, the Champions League is the ‘El Dorado’, it is something that normally means more than championships. “But I agree when people say that championships are the ones that make you feel that the season was really great. “I have won all four championships in which I’ve been involved and that’s reason to be proud.”
Roger Federer defeated Juan Martin del Potro over three sets to win the eighth Swiss Indoors crown of his career – and his seventh title of 2017. The 36-year-old had to work hard on Sunday before dispatching Del Potro 6-7 6-4 6-3, making amends for two final defeats to the Argentine in Basel in 2012 and 2013. The pair shared the first two sets. A tiring Del Potro could not keep up in the deciding set however after having stolen a break in the opening game, Federer roared back to win four games in succession before finishing off his opponent. As for next week’s Paris Masters, organisers later
confirmed he would not be in the field for the final Masters 1000 event of the year, all but ending his hopes of ending the year as the world no 1. “It’s unbelievable how well Roger is playing,” said Del Potro. “I hope to be in such shape when I’m his age. But I doubt I will be.” Federer and Del Potro had met on four previous occasions this year, with the latter winning their last meeting – a US Open quarter-final last month. In a tight opening set, Federer had the chance to take it on serve, only for Del Potro to break, and the Swiss player then lost five points in a row to lose the tie-break.
Del Potro was the aggressor in the second, bossing the first half of the set and forcing the early break opportunity, which Federer withstood. Federer regained control, breaking in the final game of the set, before wrapping up the victory with two further breaks in the third. After his victory, a satisfied Federer tweeted “8 is gr8” alongside a picture o f himself kissing his trophy.

JOSHUA 10TH ROUND STOPPAGE Anthony Joshua insists he is focused on keeping his belts “by any means” following his 10th-round stoppage win against Carlos Takam
T
he 28-year old WBA super and IBF world heavyweight champion suffered a damaged nose during the bout before breaking down the tough Frenchman for a 20th-consecutive knockout victory at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Promoter Eddie Hearn says he plans to put in place three fights for Joshua next year, but the unbeaten boxer is more fixed on a long-term strategy as he embarks on ruling the division for the next 10 years. “I’m just focusing on keeping my belts by any means,” said Joshua following his win over Takam. “I think the WBA have a mandatory in place, so my next three
fights could be an obligation I have to fill if I want to keep the belts. “In my mind I’m just focusing on keeping my belts and getting better from here and winning and winning. “It’s not about the 21st fight or the 22nd fight, it’s about 15 fights from here – 10 years, 15 years you know. “I’m not just worried about my next three fights, I’ve just got to plan the long-term strategy with Rob and Eddie.” Hearn said, “It’s up to what Anthony what’s to do.” “He can box in any territory he wants but I think right now it’s about mapping the year rather than just the next one. “Every show is iconic. Every show
there are images and footage that go back to people around the world and we should be very proud of what they’re watching because I don’t think it’s been done before. “AJ has always wanted to put on shows in and out of the ring. There isn’t a show like an Anthony Joshua show, there just isn’t in world boxing anymore.”
