The 72nd Cannes Film Festival rolled out its red carpet in May and the event featured a 12-day festival in the French Riveria. During all the glitz and glamour stars got together from across the world celebrating artists and films. A total of 1845 feature films were submitted for the official selection this year, however no Indian film made it to the official selection of the festival for the first time in a decade and neither was there any Indian talent in any of the jury this year.

Since the festival began in 1946, Indian pictures have walked away with several major prizes and this year no film was showcased The festival had a host of Bollywood stars who graced the red carpet and this included Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Aishwarya RaiBachchan , Sonam Kapoor,Ahuja,Huma Qureshi and Priyanka Chopra Jonas who attended with her husband Nick. Actress Huma Qureshi, 32-year-

old said “It is a shame, “The kind of films that come to Cannes are very niche in India, because it’s not the quintessential Bollywood film.” she believes it is time to start pushing the boundaries of cinema in India, which last year churned out more than 1,800 films — more than any other country on Earth. Indian cinema’s main focus has been on big-budget hits rather than the more art-house pictures that tend to gain traction at Cannes and other international festivals.
