New Year’s Eve this year seemed to be bigger and more crowded than ever. Every venue in town was full of revelers, people thronging the streets and madness in every corner. Some venues were a little too full, but that was fine, it was New Year’s Eve and what more would you expect. One small savior was that the traffic was not as bad on the night compared to the week before since Christmas, which was almost overwhelming. There was a little bit of rain on the night but that didn’t seem matter to anyone. Next day was the rebirth of Double Six. Some may remember when all roads led to 66 Club on New Year’s Eve over many years and it seemed the whole town would end up in that hallowed space for the last hours every New Year’s Eve no matter where you were before. This year Double Six Hotel opened the rooftop and recreated history on New Year’s Day with DJs Darren Emerson, Sebastian Leger and one of the most respected DJs of all time, Sasha in a space very reminiscent to the old super club. We had the best seats in the house courtesy of our friend Senor Ivan, who staked them out right at opening time 2pm, and we proceeded to relive those Holocene days and in such great company. It was the perfect extension of New Year’s Eve, a few hours later than years gone by, but we all made it. It seemed everyone in town was there, were you? This year was one of the best and longest New Year’s Eve celebrations the island has seen. I hope our livers can live up to it, press reset and go again — Happy New Year 2015 to all our readers. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of restaurateur, Christian Vannequé. He will be sadly missed by many on the island. l a t e s t

SCOOP AirAsia to Open Solo-Bali Route AirAsia has announced that it will begin operating Solo-Bali flight services starting from the end of this month. According to Assistant Manager of Operations at Solo’s Adi Soemarmo International Airport, Rini Tri Rahayu Hastuti, Air Asia has met all of the administrative requirements necessary to begin flights three times per week, which will commence starting January 28. With the opening of the new service, Solo airport officials hope to increase traffic through Solo, which receives minimal flight activity when compared to nearby Semarang and Yogyakarta. AirAsia also announced that starting on January 29 it would begin SoloSingapore flight services as well.

Claptone is the man behind the golden bird mask. There is no Claprone without a mask; he doesn’t reveal much information and certainly has never revealed his face. The only thing he would share was the fact that he traveled the land some centuries ago as a wandering musician, almost like today but with acoustic instruments. 2012 proved to be a year dominated by Claptone’s infectious “Cream” which became an immediate hit, topping new world charts at Beatport and Resident Advisor. 16 Bit Lolitas are a deep house duo made up of Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock, they´re both from the Netherlands and are both ready to rock the roof off of Jenja. Hailing from the UK, Futuristic Polar Bears are a group of DJs/producers consisting of Fran Cosgrave, Luke Hayes and Rhys Bukley. Luke and Fran had been working together for a good few years but wanted to start a fresh project at the end of 2009. They met Rhys in the early 2010 when they were booked to play a gig in his hometown. They all sat down and showed Rhys some of the new tracks, after which the two found out that he was a producer as well. DJ Bone (Eric Dulan) is a world renowned techno producer and DJ from Detroit. He began his DJ career spinning groundbreaking sets weekly at The Love Club (The Shelter). Ever since being described by Armin van Buren as a modern day Mozart, Andrew Rayel has been rising higher into the sky than he could have ever imagined. Right now I’m in my studio, just got back home to Moldava from my tour in Australia and South Africa, and leaving back on Thursday for Tel Aviv, London, and Glasgow. After hearing many of your tracks, one notices the use of beautiful classical harmonies; do you have a background with classical music? Yes I do! I was enrolled in a classical musical school when I was a kid after my parents noticed that I might have musical talent. It was something that I fell in love with and having a good educational musical background has helped me a lot in my career. What was your first big breakthrough in the electronic music world? My track “Aether” which was the first tune of the week that I got from Armin Van Buuren on his radio show A State Of Trance.

What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far? Several memorable moments to be honest…. The release of my debut artist album Find Your Harmony, being voted in DJ MAG for the first time, being on the shoulders of Armin Van Buuren during our track collaboration “EIFORYA”, as well as the two incredible album release party shows which we did in my home country Moldova and another at Ministry of Sound in London. What does EDM mean to you? EDM is a world which includes nothing but love, harmony, melodies, and happiness all around. Are there any producers/DJs that have influenced you in your career? For sure: Armin Van Buuren, Hans Zimmer, ATB. What would you be doing if being a superstar DJ wasn’t your job? I would be an accountant. Have you been to Jakarta before? What have you got planned here in Indonesia apart from the big show at Colosseum? I have, and it was one of the most amazing times…It was ASOT650, and WOW what a night and what a crowd. Have something planned for sure, but why spoil the surprise when you can wait and see… It’s worth the waiting. With all the success you had recently, where do you see yourself in five years from now? Next nights as it comes alive with lounge music and up was the Slipper Lobster Skewers (55k), enjoy excellent prices on the premium booze. although extremely small with only two sate The sounds from Ibiza, both inside and out on sticks, the slipper lobster was succulent with the patio never sounded so good. the miso flavor giving it a certain saltiness and Awesome bar. macadamia nuts injected a savory taste. We also had their Tebasaki Gyo-za (55k) which was art on a platter. It was a hollowed out chicken wing stuffed with minced prawn and shitake mushrooms then deep fried to make perfect bite sized snacks. Another great platter was the Nori-Rolled Fish Fritter which was tempura fried fish with miso mayo, absolutely delicious. For something more substantial, the Thai Beef Salad Wrap (95k) which was exactly what it sounded like, tasty and tangy. The dish was marinated beef Thai style, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, mint, red onion, and peanuts. The pita wrap played nicely with the overwhelming flavor associated with most Thai beef salads. As for cocktails, Alibi also had a nice selection of libations that compliment the tapas. We really liked the Iron Lung (98k), not only did it have the most metal name ever, the tequila, triple sec, yellow pepper juice and sour mix in a martini glass was pleasantly intoxicating. Stark Stark Dark Wheat We don’t ever do beers in this section so when Stark House opened its doors in central Kuta, we jumped at the opportunity. We tried their Dark Wheat Beer which was an awesome treat. First off, the beer temperature is of the utmost importance and Stark did not disappoint. When we poured the beer into the frosty mug something amazing happened. The foam started to freeze, yes, it was supercooled! The beer remained fluid, yet the foam was slushy. Excellent. The beer itself was made from roasted local hops and barley which have a caramellike taste with a tiny hint of chocolate. If you’re into dark beers, this is clearly an excellent choice. You can enjoy the Stark Dark Wheat Beer for 35k.

orn and bred in the village of artists, Ketut Adi Candra has been involved in arts ever since he could remember and was a carver at his very young age. He was introduced to abstract painting by his uncle and quit carving when he entered the High School of Arts in Batubulan in 1990.

In 1993, he enrolled at Institute of Arts Indonesia in Denpasar where he would learn every aspect of arts and explore other styles, but still thought he couldn’t find the essence he was looking for. After a long search for his identity, he decided to commit to abstract painting, taking it to the next level after he graduated in 1999. His art is not a mere abstract but mixed media where he fuses acrylic and oil paint with a collage of clothes or other objects he thinks are interesting, making it harmonious with the

colors he puts on his canvas. Sticking to his roots, he also adds a touch of carving on his works as well as elements which come from the island’s traditions.

A strong believer, Adi mostly talks about Balinese tradition as well as his own spiritual journey through his works. His art tells people about preserving the island’s heritage as well as reaching the spiritual entity at the same time. In a nutshell, it is all about respecting the island through the arts. His works have been exhibited at many venues throughout the archipelago, from Bali to Yogyakarta and Semarang as well as overseas in Denmark. He is currently exhibiting at Six Point Café alongside two local artists, showcasing a collection of works that depict the rich traditions of Bali.

We tried the Kérastase Ritual (520k) which was said to be an exclusive routine that would bring out your hair’s inner radiance. This ritual consisted of four steps which are the diagnosing, bathing, treatment and texturizing. Before proceeding with the ritual, the specialist started it with some questions regarding our hair and scalp, followed with the diagnosis to define the problems as well as a recommendation on more specific products to use throughout the ritual. It moved to the next session where we were asked to lie on a reclining chair while our hair was washed and head was massaged. It then came to the primary component of the ritual which was the treatment. Here, we were seated on a treatment chair while the masque was applied to our hair from the root to its tip, followed with a relaxing scalp massage. Thereafter, the masque was left on our hair for few minutes while the specialist continued to give a hot stone massage on our back, hands and legs. The last session was the texturizing in which the masque was rinsed off, conditioner and hair tonic were applied, followed with blow-dry that results in glossy and bouncy hair.
