Nicholas Routledge has been widely known as the producer, singer and guitarist of Aussie electro group Van She for many years, and after a hiatus, he now has returned to the scene as a DJ under his new moniker Nicky Night Time. Being a kid in the 90s, Nicky had always loved that NYC sound of house, saying that house music has been in his my blood from early on in high school. His biggest musical influences include Daft Punk, Marshall Jefferson and Detroitborn house producer MK.

Recently, his mixes were also picked by Andi Durrant to be featured on his radio show on KissFm, as well as Pete Tong on his Evolution show on iHeartRadio.

His first release under this new moniker titled “Everybody Together” was #1 on the ARIA Club Charts for several weeks and nabbed him a Best Dance Release nomination at ARIA Awards 2014. This track brings to the table the perfect mix of elements old and new, with influences varied from NYC piano house, to 90s pop and soul. Some of the greats in the business have even given it a spin, from Digitalism and Aeroplane, to BBC Radio 1 veteran tastemakers Annie Mac and Rob Da Bank. Following his debut release is a classic garage-house production called “Gonna Get Better”. This track takes the essence of Robin S’ “Show Me Love“, and features amazing vocals of Australian singer-songwriter Nat Dunn. Rocky Rock is a DJ, rapper and producer, widely known as the former DJ for Black Eyed Peas. He was born in the Philippines, but later moved and grew up in the States. Majorly influenced by his cousins, he discovered the world of music as a kid in junior high school. With an urge to learn more and master his craft at the turntables, he went on to participate in DJ competitions, including one sponsored by Linkin Park. It would be this competition where he won and began his life-transforming friendship with Joe Hahn. Joe pushed him to eventually move to Los Angeles where he got discovered by the owner of the hip-hop music festival Rock the Bells.

In 2001, he founded Mind Music, a DJ school dedicated to empowering the next generation of DJs with turntable skills. In 2002, Rocky entered a DJ competition called Koolmix where the actual prize was to be the opening act for the Black Eyed Peas. He then formed a unique friendship with apl.de.ap who would ask Rock to work with the group. After working with the Black Eyed Peas, he found himself on the road again with the Sublime with Rome, and then on his own tour in Europe. He is currently a residing in Spain, holding residencies at clubs such as Mandala Beach Mojacar, Mae West Granada and El Bribon De La Habana.

Roger Sanchez is a prolific remixer, world class mainstream DJ/producer, and one of the most world renowned names in the house music scene today. Born in New York to parents of Dominican heritage, Sanchez attended Manhattan’s school of Art & Design with several hip hop legends like Kurtis Mantronik. He went through the graffiti/break dance stage through his early teens and on the DJ decks by age 13. After mixing for several years in some of New York’s hot spots like the Tunnel, Roger felt right at home and he decided to give music a full time go. By 1989 Gladys Pizarro from Strictly Rhythm Records touched base to see if Sanchez was interested in production; one year later he had recorded his first single; “Luv Dancin”.

From his humble beginnings he moved to multi-year residencies in Ibiza; from digging in dusty crates to headlining festival main stages around the world. His creativity when it comes to producing is like non-other; from a few singles into an ambitious catalogue of over two thousand original productions and remixes, but not all in his name. Roger has released under a slew of monikers, including S-Man, Roger S, The Nu-Solution, Underground Solution, DV8, Ego Trip, El Mariachi, The Funkjunkeez, Tribal Infusion, Twilight, and Transatlantic Soul. Roger has remixed work from superstars like Chic, Daft Punk, Diana Ross and The Police, contributed to the soundtrack of Hollywood movie Blade, and founded three record labels before his beloved Stealth Records which he started in 2002. He was awarded the first-ever Best Podcast Award at the International Dance Music Awards in 2007. In addition to his bi-weekly podcasts, Roger has also hosted online radio shows that attract up to 10 million listeners world wide.

Oliver Grégoire is one of the most creative DJ/producers from Belgium. He has truly mastered the art of modern production and experiments with many different genres through various pseudonyms, leading to a massive discography, that includes releases on some of the planets finest record labels. Carried by his growing success in 2005, he founded an independent electro label called LouLou Records, Oliver first started using the label as means to released tracks under the artist name Kolombo, his new solo project.

Oliver found that Kolombo had real potential and allowed him to put out a wider variety of sounds, from dark electro to minimal, while still keeping his electro house feel through out his productions. Kolombo ended up releasing loads of solid remixes and EPs on labels such as Kompakt, Noir Music, Turbo, Eskimo, Future Classic, Systematic, Boxer and many more. Consequently, massive world wide tours were organized for the up and coming star and he found himself DJing his mixture of electronic house and disco in places as diverse as Brazil, Mexico and Russia. Guy Judah or just Guy J is an Israeli DJ, producer and remixer who was born in Tel Aviv and now calls Antwerp, Belgium his home. He started producing at 14 and by the time he hit the ripe age of 18, he had enough knowledge to properly craft his own style of tech-house. Mixes from Bedrock Records boss, John Digweed, such as Northern Exposure and Transitions played a big part on Guy J’s formative years. One thing led to another and he found himself talking to John Digweed, his tracks found positive feedback from the team at Bedrock which propelling him into the centre of the electronic dance music scene.

ocoon Beach Club offers just about everything you’d want in a place to go on a tropical vacation and then some. Next to the beach? Check. Prominent pool? Check. Music? Check. Excellent dining and cocktails? Double check. It seems like there’s no better chill venue during the day/party place on weekends in the Legian area than Cocoon. The place just exudes a loungey cool atmosphere where wading in the pool, enjoying canapés, and sipping on cocktails all under the warm hug of sunlight. At night, the place transforms into one of the hottest party venues in town and with the beginning of the high season, the place is just beginning to warm up.
As you walk into Cocoon, you’ll notice that it’s on the corner of Jl Double Six and the beach, an excellent location for sunsets. The venue is raised giving a commanding view of the beach and has a pool in front of much of the outdoor sun deck. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and cool and if you want an even better view, the upstairs is a great option. The restaurant has this bright clean feel that’s reminiscent of an empty white sand beach and evokes a certain air of freshness.

FOOD As for the food, Cocoon offers an extensive menu with just about something for everyone and for any occasion. We kicked it off with the Super Foods Salad (60k) quinoa, grilled vegetables, chickpea, avocado, sunflower seeds, and pepitas pesto dressing. It tasted about as healthy as it sounds and should satisfy anyone whose gluten/dairy allergy keeps them away from brining tupperware everywhere with them. Next up were the tapas selections, Crispy Pork Dumplings (55k) and Lamb Shaslicks (55k). The pork dumplings had a crispy exterior and minced pork on the inside, it came in a plate of three, came with soy ginger dipping sauce and one could comfortably eat them in two bites or go all out and shove it all in at once. Very satisfying. The lamb came in three skewers seasoned with capsicum, onion, and toasted sesame. It was bite sized meaty goodness. For something more substantial, we had the Cocoon Burger (120k) which had Angus beef, beef, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomato, onions, fried egg, pickles, mustard, and mayonnaise with wedges on the side. The meat was excellent cooked (medium) just how we liked it. The moistness of the patty really stood out and each bite was a perfect mouthful of meat and carbs. If you feel like adding some veggies to the mix, get it with Snake Beans (35k) which had peanuts and shredded coconut. The main event had to be the Fritto Misto (180k), crumbed prawns, scallops, calamari, and white fish with tartar cocktail sauce and shaved fennel salad. This dish works excellently as something to share amongst friends or as a solo main. The seafood bites were uniformly crumbed with that right amount of crisp that doesn’t leave the roof of your mouth raw. A real treat. As for dessert The Oasis (60k)was a little bit of everything. Coconut and white chocolate sago, mango gel, and young coconut granita was both delectable and refreshing on a hot day by the beach. You also have to try their cocktails such as Cocoon Colada (110k) blend of Bacardi and
Midori with fresh pineapple, coconut milk, and a dash of Blue Caracao. Or, our favorite, the Sangria Mojito (110k) Muddled lime, orange, lemon, mint leaves, mixed berries, vodka, triple sec, white wine, topped with ginger ale. Both were alcoholically refreshing. Cocoon represents grown up fun in the sun where lounging, dipping, eating, drinking, and dancing all seamlessly come together for a good time.

Wonderful Wow Worthy Worthless Worm Fodder
For more than two decades, Björk Guðmundsdóttir, plain old Björk to you and I, has never been one to shy away from eccentricity, but unlike so many other avant-garde artists, she has never strayed too far from the mainstream music radar. It’s perhaps not surprising then, that for her latest outing, we find everyone’s favourite monosyllabic Icelandic siren (bit of a one-horse race that, granted) trussed up like a human dandelion, and baring her soul after what sounds like an extremely unpleasant break up from American artist Matthew Barney.
Haxan Cloak on production duties has ensured that this is no faux-Broadway number or acoustic-guitar led sob-a-thon. Instead, Vulnicura lays down its musical intentions on opener “Stonemilker”:cinematic string arrangements over jarring electronic beats. It’s an approach that works extremely well given the subject matter, and consequently this ode to an ended relationship feels all the more genuine thanks largely to the album’s stark arrangements.

It’s the kind of line you wouldn’t normally expect from Björk, as so much of her work is steeped in ambiguity, but here she’s getting straight to the emotional point; essentially, breaking up is not only hard to do, but its cruelly confusing
By its very nature, Vulnicura is at times an uncomfortable listen - for every gorgeous phrase or chorus there is always a darker, more unsettling moment just around the corner. “Black Lake” stretches to more than 10 minutes, frequently descending into a single, claustrophobic note lasting for almost 30 seconds, and “Family” features a queasy ensemble of chopped up violins and cellos that will struggle to get anyone’s toes tapping. I
n the world of arts, she is one of the not-somany women who has reached widespread acclaim. She is everything about a woman, unceasingly empowering other women through her art. Through her MotherArt Space, she seeks the gifted young women, enlightening them to keep growing in the world of arts. What theme do you pursue? My art covers the women. I am interested in their lifestyle, their characteristic, and how they solve the problems on their daily routine and career. Other aspects like their gesture and fashion also make another exciting idea to be laid on canvas. How did you first meet the idea of creating these female figures? The idea sparked when I was doing my final project. The students were asked to make 12 original works. I was a bit confused of what I should make, but at the same time, I was reading a book about an urban life titled Midnight in Jakarta. That’s how the idea came out. I started painting the women and their lifestyle which weren’t too much explored in Bali at that moment. This project was done in 2000. What is the characteristic of your art? The head cutting. What I want to convey here is that people are not perfect, including the women. We are lacking on many things, and how I portray it is through the depiction of their heads. There will always be the face and the hair, but if you look through it, you can sometimes spot that either their nose or ears is missing. With this vagueness, I believe my objects still look good and pretty when they are actually imperfect. You have been painting women so far. Have you ever thought to paint men, or kids, or elderlies for your next project?
I have painted man, once. It was for an exhibition at Seniwati Art Space, and the theme was about the closest person we, the participants, love. I chose my husband, and it has been the first in my life I had a man as my object. For kids or elderlies, I haven’t thought about it yet, but perhaps, there will be the time. As a woman artist, what is the challenge you always meet? The challenge is to face the other artists, who are mostly the men. So, as women artists, we have to keep our existence by continuously creating art. And when doing art, we can’t play around. When there is an idea coming out, we have to put it into realization immediately. We can’t hold it for a long time, as the process has to keep going. Can you tell us briefly about MotherArt Space? This space is a platform to find young talents in Bali, especially the women. We let them work freely, and we never try to ‘tie’ them. Our therapist then requested us to lay on the massage table while facing down, and the session was continued with the healing Balinese massage. Pressure and strokes were applied gently yet smoothly, benefitting the aromatic essential oil that lubricated the skin. The massage was followed with full body scrub, and once done, we were then lead to a shower.
