After the hectic days and nights of the Bali High Season 2017 it seems to be getting back to normal again as the streets become a little less jammed and a little easier to get into your local club or restaurant. Thursday night saw the Grand Opening of the newest club in town, right in the centre of Kuta, with Moksa being packed to the gills and showing that it is a new player in Bali nightlife. Last week’s Pacha Festival Bali and Arturro Summer Party kicked off a memorable weekend on Friday night with those two events being well frequented and offering completely different experiences for punters. Pacha banging it out for rave party fans like never seen before on Seminyak Beach, while the Arturro show was a well-healed and classy affair for the fashionistas of Bali. Saturday night Ku De Ta managed to pull off one of their best White Parties ever with the UK’s Basement Jaxx headlining the show. There is nothing like getting ready for the annual White Party – the anticipation is intoxicating and the event is nothing less than thrilling. This year’s anyway. The unofficial after party at Jenja with MANDY was also memorable. There were plenty more events on all over town but they were the biggest during this year’s high season. However, it doesn’t stop there. There are plenty more great shows coming our way soon. Hardwell, Kygo, and Zedd are set to electrify the crowd of one of the biggest electronic music festivals that will be held this upcoming September 14 – 15 at Potato Head Beach Club. THE HERBALIFE BALI INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON IS SET FOR ITS 10TH RUN IN SANUR The 10th Herbali Bali International Triathlon is coming to the shores of Mertasari Beach, Sanur, and around 2000 triathletes are ready to compete for this year’s event. On October 15th, triathletes from across the globe, including Australia, France, German, and England, will be participating, and even Jauhari Johan, Indonesia’s representative for the 2017 SEA Games, is joining in the fun. Participants can choose between two categories: Olympic Distance Course (1,5 km swimming, 40 km cycling, 10 km running) and Sprint Distant Course (500 meters swimming, 20 km cycling, 5 km running). The Secret Sunrise is one of those events and it’ll be coming back to Bali after being held in Sydney, Johannesburg, London, Capetown, Amsterdam, and Dubai. MEET WATERMAN WEEK’S ENVIRONMENTAL ROLE MODELS Many people in Bali have done their share in saving the environment, and for their contribution ROLE Foundation will be honoring them with the Clean Oceans Warrior Award which will be part of their upcoming Waterman Week event from 25 August – 1 September. The recipients include among others the precocious Wijsen sisters from Bye Bye Plastic Bags; Marine Azure Earth who built a solar-powered boat; Komang Sudiarta’s Malu Dong community who have helped in cleaning up beaches; the booking site Book Greener; and many others. Ladies First at the Bali Flames Netball Tournament If you haven’t seen netball action before or you’re one of the sport’s greatest fans, you’re in luck. Finns Recreations Club will be hosting the 10th Bali Flames Netball Tournament in October. What started out as an informal catch-up by a group of ladies who love the sport, The Netball Club was officially launched back in June 2007 by among others, Marian Carrol, Rebecca Hamer, Pam Dorian, and Tamara Serong. “The tournament started as an excuse for ladies mainly in Southeast Asia to get together and share their love of netball,” explained De-Anne Cue to The Beat. De-Anne is the organizer of the tournament since 2015, and has been involved since 2012 as a player and umpire, and she continued. “There were plenty of sporting teams in Bali but none were dedicated to developing women’s sport and the Flames hopes to fill this gap.” The team has a diverse, multinational membership of all ages hailing from Australia, New Zealand, England, the U.S., Indonesia, the Philippines, and Japan. The first tournament was held at Bali International School in Sanur, with two Bali teams competing as well as teams from Thailand and Surabaya.

From that moment on, the tournament has been held every year in October and subsequently, the number of teams competing just keeps growing - from four teams in 2007 to 28 teams this year. And this year will also mark the first time that the competition will include a mixed division where men and women can play on the same team. The winning team, first runner-up, and second runner up will receive a trophy, plus the winning team will have their name added to the Perpetual Trophy that is on display at Finns Recreation Club. So what can we expect from this year’s tournament? “For anyone who comes along to watch during the tournament you will definitely see a lot of talented players, great teamwork, a lot of colors (everyone in the team’s outfits), different countries and cultures coming together all for the love of their sport,” De-Anne said. Surrounded by extensive zen gardens and gently spilling waterfalls, a maze of interconnected covered walkways lead you first to the sake bar where you can sip on some Japanese style cocktails before making your way through to the main area. Two huge open kitchens, each housing two opposing polished steel teppanyaki grills, sit either side of the space which is drenched in black, deep red and gold and moodily lit for a wonderfully authentic atmosphere. The a la carte menu is stuffed full of inventive fusion treats like Creamy Shrimp Tempura and Foie Gras Eggplant with Balsamic as well as the more customary nibbles like Gyoza or Tuna Tataki, but to really get the works there are five specially curated degustation packages to choose from. We start off with the Tuna Karashi Miso & Creamy Spicy Tempura, quickly followed up by that teppan staple of fresh veggies and beansprouts, expertly grilled to tender perfection. Next up comes the Prawn & Scallop with Butter Ponzu Sauce with the Unagi (eel) Foie Gras & Potato hot on its heels. It’s already an amazing spread that only gets better with the arrival of the super tender Salmon with Butter Lemon Soy Sauce, followed by the softest Wagyu Beef I’ve every tried – all dressup up in a sensational red wine soy sauce. On the side, a bowl of the classic Miso Soup and a hot pot of perfectly

fried rice complete the picture, before the final act of Matcha Tea Rolls with Orange Jelly sorts out the sweet ending. A superb drinks list means that there is always something either alcoholic or non-alcoholic to wash everything down – my particular favourite was the Sakura (160k++); a hit of raspberryinfused vodka, shaken with muddled cucumber, raspberries and a hint of lemon juice. LANA DEL REY Lust For Life “You get ready you get all dressed up/to nowhere in particular...it don’t matter coz it’s enough/to be young and in love,” sighs Lana Del Rey on “Love” - the opening track from her fourth long player. It sets the tone well for what follows: more tales of sex, heartbreak, love, and the broken American dream set against the faded grandeur of 1950s Hollywood noir. It’s only been two seemingly short years since her last outing on Honeymoon, but nonetheless Lust For Life sounds fresh and new, a sure-footed progression, delivered by an artist at the height of their powers. At times she’s still toting the femme fatale persona – fluttering her eyelashes as she pours cyanide in your vodka – but Lust For Life feels a lot more preoccupied by quixotic sentimentality than on past tracks like “Ultraviolence”. “Real love is like feeling no fear/When you’re standing in the face of danger/’Cause you just want it so much” she

sings without cynicism on the slow burning “Cherry”. Very much the solo siren on her first three LPs, it really felt like Del Rey was all alone out there, living in her own self-imagined retro bubble and making music way outside the confines of the modern music biz. Here, a number of guest stars join in (The Weeknd, Stevie Nicks, A$AP Rocky, Sean Lennon), but ultimately she’s on best form when going it alone. “In My Feelings” and “Heroin” are by far the best tracks: dark, moody but simply sublime and all the better for not being diluted by anyone else. If there’s one bugbear it could be argued that the album’s third act drags on a song or two too long, but overall Lust For Life is another magical instalment from this captivating American songstress. Bhineka Tunggal Ika Now – September 5 Setia Darma House of Masks and Puppets An art show, ‘Bhineka Tunggal Ika’, is now being held at Setia Darma House of Masks and Puppets. Besides dance performances, this art show also has invited artists and photographers to create works that respond to the birth of the dance and mask of Sutasoma, as well as Sunda Upasunda and Purwa Sandhi Naya dances. In this exhibition, Nyoman Wijaya displays his drawings that record the dancers of three dance performances, and 15 photographers showcases their photographs. LOOK Set on the front area of The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, we can say that this spa is truly a little piece of heaven. Lavish design and a soothing atmosphere are what makes this spa, complete with its state-of-the-art facilities which are provided to spoil guests even more. Stepping into the spa, guests are welcomed by its bright reception area, featuring floor-toceiling windows that let the natural light in. However, a different atmosphere can be felt as the guests pass its giant door. Dim-lighted hallways are hidden behind, lined with sheer curtains, leading guests to the spa’s treatment rooms and facilities. FEEL Heavenly Spa by Westin has a comprehensive menu, and they undoubtedly have something good to offer through item on that menu. We tried their 90-minute “Heavenly Spa Signature Massage” (IDR1.3 Mil), and we have to say that it really proved our point. The treatment kicked off with a soothing foot ritual, and what followed was something we have never found anywhere else. Before getting into the massage, our therapist asked us to choose one among three stones she showed us, either the ‘love’, ‘hope’ or ‘gratitude’ stone. After the ‘mantra-filled’ stone was picked, it was placed right under our headrest, so that it would trigger our emotion every time we opened our eyes, helping us to be more positive. Rested on our treatment table, the next session began with a respiratory therapy which comforted our system as the therapist asked us to take a long breath, followed by body stretching. While getting our back muscles calmed with a heated compress, the Swedish massage was applied to our body, with deep yet gentle hand movements applied to shoo those tensions away. The same movements were also applied on our fronts, without leaving any pressure marks behind. It was a totally blissful experience, leaving us feeling uplifted physically and mentally as this 90-minute treatment came to its end.

INGREDIENTS All treatments here mostly use locally-sourced products. For this treatment, the spa uses Whitey Oil which contains almond. This oil is good for the skin as it is not only relaxing, but also moisturizing. MAGIC It is an all in one package here.
