Well, what a blasting weekend that was down at Omnia last week. From the top EDM to the top Techno, what a well-rounded weekend event it was. We had our photographers down there each night and you can see what they came back with inside and online (there is more). We look forward to what Omnia has up its sleeve as we get closer to the high season. Will it be EDM or deep techno, we’ll just have to wait and see. But one thing is for sure, if it wasn’t a crowded high season before now, it sure is gonna be a crowded season of events this year.

So what else is new? Well, down in Kuta there is a new club and really quite a stylish club to boot. There is speculation that LXXY is the beginning of the new upmarket Kuta future – or did that already begin further back up the road last year? You must admit that Kuta has been heading towards a higher standard over the past year or so, and attracting a higher-end crowd from the new Bali tourist market. Let’s hope it continues in that same direction in the future. You can read more about LXXY inside as we interview the GM, Mr Budi in this edition. There are a load of good events coming in the next two weeks, check inside for all the details of what’s on around the venues or you may miss out. Check online www.thebeatbali.com for the latest.

LXXY Bali Is this the beginning of a renewed Kuta?

58

www.thebeatbali.com

FEATURE LXXY held their Soft Opening last Saturday night in downtown Kuta. It is a 3.5 floor building, with a restaurant, nightclub and dayclub. It’s new, exciting and sure to bring some new life to central Kuta. And that’s gotta be good for everyone! The day club complete with swimming pool could well become the place to be during the day and the club itself is spacious, clean and pumping. We are speaking LIVE with the new General Manager, Budi about what we can expect at LXXY Bali (on Facebook last week) How are you today Budi? Hello! I’m doing great! That’s awesome. You must be happy after all that work to finally get LXXY open. How long has it been since you first started building? Yes, we are all very happy to get the party started over at LXXY Bali. We started building nearly a year and a half ago. A long time in the making. So, tell us a little bit about the club. What’s happening on those 3.5 floors? Upon entering thru LXXY’s main doors you’ll find a Bistro & Bar on the ground floor serving Spanish cuisine and playing some fresh Hiphop & R&B music. Our second floor features our Nightclub & VIP Lounge that will soon feature some of the world’s top DJ’s (including Cheat Codes and CADE as well as several other exhilarating events). Once you reach our rooftop you’ll find the Dayclub. Which we’ll be launching this Saturday with Bondax. Here we feature wild pool party events, our Spanish Buffet every sunset from 4pm-8pm. So there is a Spanish theme in the cuisine? How about the mezzanine floor

overlooking the main club dance floor, what goes on there? Yes, our Bistro & Bar on the ground floor serves a different menu from our rooftop buffet. The Mezzanine area is the VIP Lounge. Here guests can indulge in proper VIP service featuring private security, terrace, and bar service while enjoying an overlooking balcony view of the entire nightclub. What’s the music style of each floor? And how about the operational hours? We’re catering to every part of your day as well as different music tastes. Our Bistro & Bar features mostly RnB, moombahton, and hiphop. The nightclub features RnB, hiphop, EDM mashups, and trap. Then our rooftop Dayclub features house, deep house, tech house, and future house. The Bistro & Bar is open from 11am-late. The Nightclub is open 9pm-late. The Dayclub is open from 11am-late. It’s all open 7 days a week and there’s also an abundance of parking next door to the venue. Sounds like a good mix of music and food. Any special offers/promos punters should be thinking about? And how about big events? Anything coming soon? Besides our all you can eat sunset Spanish buffet for 99k+ from 4pm-8pm our entrance was free of charge until Thursday last week. Friday May 4th, we’ll have Cheat Codes & CADE in for 200k FDC. Saturday May 5th we’ll have Bondax in the Dayclub for a Sexy Pool Party launch. That sounds like a blast. What kind of people are you going for on those three floors? We’re opening our doors to Bali’s visiting party goers looking to get everything they possibly can out of their trip to Bali as well as embrace and welcome our community of socially active experience seeking locals and expats. Well I hope everyone gets down to LXXY and tries it out soon. It’s great for Kuta and the Bali nightlife.... The more the merrier! Thank you for your time, Budi and good luck with continuing success of the club. Cheers! Hope to catch you at LXXY Bali soon!

Join in on a fun-run like no other, where the aim of the run is to gain weight by the end of the run! On June 2 – 3, runners will jog for 3.5km with 10 dishes of the best local food on the market served along the way. After tasting the selected dishes, the runners who gain 0.5kg to 1kg will receive the special KG medal. Strange way to enjoy the pleasures of food and running but what the hell! What Do You Recommend,

Barman? Red Carpet Champagne Bar

Espresso Martini Barman: Dedy The glamorous yet casual Red Carpet Champagne Bar is meant for people who love a good time, and that also includes good drinks. And when you’re looking for a cocktail that kicks a punch without tasting like it, look no further than Red Carpet’s Espresso Martini (125k), as recommended by the barman, Dedy. According to the super experinced bartender, this best-selling cocktail is better than just about anywhere else as it mixes vodka with Sierra Tequila instead of Kahlúa. Complete with coffee extract and two shots of espresso, it has quite a kick, it’s richly bitter and less creamy, sure to make an equally good post-dinner drink, especially in summer time like this. Garnished with coffee beans and served in a martini glass, it is then put in a thick blue glass filled with cold water, so that you’ll keep your drink chilled longer. What a delicious cocktail!

SALAZON 64

FOOD We have been hearing a lot about Salazon at En Vie Lane - one of the latest additions to Seminyak’s dining scene. This industrial-look restaurant and bar is situated on famous Oberoi Street in the heart of Seminyak. The moment we entered the restaurant, right away we were intrigued by details that dominated this very chic designed space. The chandeliers caught my eye first, and you could see straight away that the interior design really pulled this enormous space totally together. The concept represents Balinese and Indonesian culture. Besides the locally and custom made furniture throughout the restaurant, you can also see the space is fully decorated with artworks of indigenous animals and an enormous ceramic map of Indonesia. I personally was mesmerized with the whole open concept where you can witness the entire cooking process unfolding before your eyes – to me it’s quite an interesting and intimate way of dining. The open kitchen features a 5.8 ton Scotch oven – this wood fired oven apparently remains burning all day long at a different level of temperatures and is the inspiration for the whole concept. The oven burns three varieties of wood that produces the coals that fuel the grill, the smoker and all the other cooking processes in the kitchen – even the ash is used. It reminded me a lot of how my grandparents cooked our meals back when I was little and perhaps it was the reason why their cooking was so good.

The glass, dry-aging room is a feature on the back wall and is where they showcase a range of meats, fish and poultry that are dried nine to a maximum of 120 days. The bar area and a beautifully set up wine cellar is also at this end of the restaurant. Almost everything is smoked at Salazon, even the cocktails. You might want to try a smoked negroni from the extensive cocktail list, which is mixed rigth at your table. Executive Chef Paul Lewis and team also make everything on-site, from the dry-aged meats to pastries as well as sauces, vinegars, pickles and sweets. When we sat down at the long bar overseeing the open kitchen, we ordered hand chopped tuna from their Raw & Cured menu selection which I had all to myself as it was so good. My partner had grilled octopus and Bultarra lamb cutlets from the little plates menu which was simply delicious as well. Then we shared Roasted pink snapper from their big plates menu and it was one juicy and flavorful fish bite after bite and we totally loved it! We aslo opted to share grilled broccoli which turned out to be surprisingly delicious and an excellent side dish. If you like your meat, tender as can be and in a brand new style you have to try this restaurant soon. Everything is next level at Salazon! By : Nineth Rachma

Kori Restaurant

Jalan Legian, Gg Poppies II, Kuta, Badung Kori is a restaurant that caters for westerners and locals alike, with excellent selections throughout their menu day and night. As of recently, they have been shuffling through new ideas for their menu and have added the delicious focaccia and dip that you can see in front. An exceptional choice, might we add, as the daily-made bread simply melts in your mouth, not to mention the ingeniously paired homemade dips! Favorites like the Australian Prime Beef Fillet are always a winner too, sat on top of a hot stone for you to grill yourself, talk about fun dining. Knock that off and you’re on to dessert, and what better way to treat yourself than with a scrumptious mango cheesecake. Kicking back in Kuta? DESIGNERS AND GOVERNMENT READY TO MAKE INDONESIA THE CENTER FOR MUSLIM FASHION

A total of 28 Indonesian Moslem wear designers were welcomed by Indonesian president, Jokowi, at the Presidential Palace of Bogor on April 26 to discuss about the concrete programs to develop the Moslem fashion industry in Indonesia. On this meeting, chairman of Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC), also one of Bali’s fashion shining lights, Ali Charisma expressed his hope that Indonesia would become the center for modest fashion, following the fact that Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, well-known for its Muslim fashion design. Additionally, Indonesian Muslim fashion style is also seen suitable for the international market, especially for those in Middle East, Europe and Asia. Furthermore, positive response from Indonesian government is hoped to be a solution to improve the quality standard of Muslim fashion style, as well as supporting the designers to implement their programs. Ali Charisma is also behind the Fashion Trend show at TS Suites next week.

This FIFA approved football tells you not only how hard you’ve stuck it, or how much spin you’ve applied, but can also tell the exact impact zones and flight trajectories of the ball. Syncing wirelessly with the accompanying app, the ball records and stores information one kick at a time, which may be slightly restrictive at times but this gadget isn’t only for lone use. You can set challenges and go head-to-head with friends in a power-range based penalty shootout, or try to replicate shots by pro’s like Ronaldo or Neymar. Charging the ball is easy too with the bundled wireless charging dock. The only hiccup was the price factor, priced at roughly $300, about $200 more than the official World Cup ball. Now it’s on sale for $99! If you’re into tech and can afford this ball, it is definitely worth a crack! www.adidas.com/us/smart-ball

Cool mining.

PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING Every Valley Charting the rise and tragic fall of coal mining in industrial South Wales would never be an easy story to tell – much less so when told by a trio of London art rockers barely out of uni, but Public Service Broadcasting have achieved a rare thing on their third album: a genuinely sincere ode to one of the most sensitive periods in modern British history. Relocating to Ebbw Vale, deep in the heart of the Valleys, front man J. Willigoose Esq. immersed himself in getting to know the area, and even recorded the album in a warehouse next to the town’s defunct steelworks. Spun as an electro concept album interspersed with sampled clippings of news broadcasts and public information films during the latter part of last century, “Every Valley” leaves a profound impression throughout its immersive 45-minute run time. The optimism and pride of an industry in boom during the opening act (“every little boy’s ambition in my valley was to become a

miner” we’re told by one of the “Kings of the Underworld”), slowly give way to the creeping doubt of progress; “machines will do our jobs, brains not brawn”. The clipped British accents and deep-voiced valleymen set to swelling electronic keyboards do little to soften the nightmare of pit cave-ins, impending picket lines, Thatcherism and the looming presence of Arthur Scargill. By the album’s central act beginning with the rage-filled stomp of “All Out”, and defiant “Turn No More” (featuring Manic Street Preacher James Dean Bradfield) it’s clear that Welsh coalmining is doomed. Only the final moving chorus of “Take Me Home” by the Beaufort Welsh Men’s Choir is able to provide a glimmer of hope. Stirring stuff, beautifully executed. Dan Ashcroft

MANISH’S ZODIAC PREDICTIONS The Beat astrologer Manish Kumar Arora reads into the next two weeks. ARIES ( 21 March – 19 April )

CANCER ( 21 June – 22 July )

Professional and financial concerns will feature, but the focus or impetus about which course to take may come through partners or close associates. Your need for recognition and appreciation from others is at an all-time high during this period and you can be over-sensitive when the people around you don’t seem to appreciate you. Your love life heats up after 13th May. A partner is in a playful mood, and you respond in kind. The mood is light-hearted and communicative when it comes to your love life. Favorable Dates : 5, 8, 14 Favorable Colors : Blue & Red

This is a power period for you on a business and professional level. You enjoy a major boost of energy and activity. Your efforts will start yielding results. Your sweet tooth for material things is strong right now. Investments are favoured, but don’t take major risks. If you remain occupied, you may miss on a good opportunity. A romantic partner is looking for more intimacy. Luckily, you are prepared to give it. Honest communication on emotionally-charged topics, like power dynamics and shared finances, is the way to go now. Favorable Dates : May 8, 13, 17 Favorable Colors : Blue & Red

TAURUS ( 20 April – 20 May )

LEO ( 23 July – 22 August )

Career concerns or responsibilities may be costly in time, energy or money. You may ask yourself what you want or what you want to do, as you stand at the edge of a risk or crucial change. It’s an excellent time to take stock of your life and to get your life in order–from your paperwork to your long-term goals and priorities. Striking a balance between energy spent on work and time spent on personal matters is essential now. It’s time to prioritize. Otherwise, you run the risk of overextending yourself and alienating your loved ones. Favorable Dates : 7, 10, 13 Favorable Colors : White & Green

The period is a strong period for you on a financial level. Opportunities to increase your income could come from travel or overseas, and good news arrives in the second week. If you have been on the fence about pursuing a love interest, this is a good time to do so. You may be inspired to create better health habits, or to begin a new diet or fitness regimen. You’re learning about sharing your resources (which can include money, possessions, your time, and your energy) with others this period. Favorable Dates : 5, 11, 17 Favorable Colors : Green & Red

GEMINI ( 21 May – 20 June )

VIRGO ( 23 August – 22 September )

You may begin a new, long-term initiative–perhaps a project or business venture–that will benefit you in the period to come. Success is very possible under this long-term influence. You may meet an important contact whose influence subtly but significantly changes the course of your life for the better. You may have a strong desire to expand your family or your home. A pleasant surprise in the romance department is in store the second week–a period when most things seem to be flowing smoothly and in your favour. Favorable Dates : 5, 13, 14 Favorable Colors : White & Red

The cosmos will force you to get serious about your finances from 11th, so it would be wise to start working on getting things in order before then. The good news is that you have the energy to do it. Your love life is speeding up, and a powerful attraction could be part of the picture mid-period. Your home and family become a major focus for you and a source of pleasure. You may have a strong desire to expand it at this time. These are power days for attracting love or cementing a current relationship. Favorable Dates : 7, 11, 16 Favorable Colors : Purple & Red

LIBRA ( 23 September – 22 October )

CAPRICORN ( 22 December – 19 January )

This period infuses you with strength of mind, quiet confidence, and strategic ability. You may be ready for a dose of passion, but don’t step outside the boundaries to satisfy your needs. Reflect on your own drives and motivations. If you’re involved in sport or intense physical activity, begin a regime of self-improvement in order to lift your game. Your dreams and visions will be put to the test and you are called upon to back them up with hard facts. A business romance or partnership is a strong possibility towards the end of the period. Favorable Dates : 9, 11, 16 Favorable Colors : Blue & Grey

You may be feeling low and dejected, and may be on a self-fault-finding mission. You are especially sensitive to the appreciation and recognition you receive from others, both personally and professionally. Spend time in activities that will rejuvenate you. Also, spend quality time with your loved ones. You may not feel very much in control in terms of relationships during this period, but you have the opportunity to get in touch with what it is you actually need and want in your partnerships through your experiences with confusing or unexpected circumstances. Favorable Dates : 10, 12, 16 Favorable Colors : Red & White

SCORPIO ( 23 October – 21 November )

AQUARIUS ( 20 January – 18 February )

Your attitude shifts to a more responsible, practical one. Your finances get some attention this period. Issues surrounding what you own and how the finances of other important people in your life affect you come to light. Career concerns, your own needs and the needs or demands of others may all have to be met. Work will be required to find the balance of everyone’s requirements. Don’t let extremes or exaggerations sway your judgement. Review what you have or share with others and look at new strategies for conducting such affairs. Favorable Dates : 8, 12, 17 Favorable Colors : Blue & Yellow

You need to keep your eye on shared resource. While you may have a good handle on your own finances, you might find that others are either asking for financial support or their mishandling of money is affecting your life considerably. You may feel like you are not getting enough, and you feel limited or restricted by situations. Circumstances may be such that you are called on to support other people in your life. You experience a distinct shift in your attitude towards pleasure-seeking activities in your life. Superficial romances simply don’t satisfy you any longer, as you seek more intimacy. Favorable Dates : 6, 8, 15 Favorable Colors : Purple & Yellow

SAGITTARIUS ( 22 November -21 December )

PISCES ( 19 February – 20 March )

You are more resourceful than ever in this period, and your will power is stronger. If you so desire, you can rather effortlessly slip into a role of leadership during this period. Selfimprovement is the name of the game, and you stand to really get yourself together. It could be an excellent period for investments and speculation, as long as it’s within reason and you use strategic thinking. There could be a collision between your dreams and reality when it comes to personal finances, if you have planned well. Favorable Dates : 6, 13, 15 Favorable Colors : Green & Purple

This is a good time for you to attract positive people and circumstances into your life. Your living conditions are apt to improve this period, and you could find yourself feeling very proud of your family and home. This period can mean a real boost from family members, a new addition to your family, the urge to expand, redecorate, and build your home and domestic life, or the beginning of a new, long-term project or business venture. You have more energy to pour into work, organizing your personal environment, and health routines. Favorable Dates :3, 5, 12 Favorable Colors : Red & Yellow

EXHIBITIONS ON NOW

Send your art exhibition info to art@beatmag.com

Now – May 13 Denpasar Art Space Taking place at Denpasar Art Space, “Campuhan Rasa” is an exhibition that brings together modern Balinese art and literature. The exhibition involves ten artists and ten young writers who pair up to respond to social phenomena in Bali, creating the works of art which emerge from their discussions. In a nutshell, this exhibition presents a new perspective that sees a meeting point between visual encounter and language strength. Denpasar Art Space, Gedung Merdeka, Jl. Surapati 7, Denpasar.

Now – May 15 ARTOTEL Sanur Collaborating with Cata Odata, ARTOTEL Sanur currently showcases the newest set of works by five male artists in an exhibition called “The Enigma: Looking at Life through Women’s Eyes”. This exhibition sees the artists attempt to share their visual stories about encounter, dialogue and connection with the women who inspire them. For them, it is a reminder of their respective daughters, partners, sisters, mothers, friends and lovers. Through the works, audiences are invited to look at the roles of these women within society, as well as the intricacies of their day-to-day lives where women are no longer being framed merely as beautiful propaganda. Here, these artists shift the viewpoint by embracing the connection between men and women in certain frameworks and boundaries, as well as the social and cultural contexts they live in. ARTOTEL Sanur, Jl. Kusuma Sari No. 1, Sanur.

Now – May 29 Titian Art Space Titian Art Space is back with its latest exhibition by Made Griyawan titled “Playing in the Water”. As a self-taught artist, he holds firmly to his father’s advice to never imitate, as well as to seek his own way in creating art. Here, in his third solo exhibition, he discovers a zone that has made him dare to further explore the idea of a simpler and universal theme. Imagery of ocean waves that adorn many of his works seem to provide a fertile ground for the birth of renewal in his adventures. The water which is only a complimentary element of his previous paintings, has transformed gradually into a novel visual language. Meanwhile, in some other works, he has the courage to make ‘water’ as the central topic. Titian Art Space, Jl. Bisma No. 88, Ubud

Peaceful Seeker #1 Now – May 15 Tonyraka Art Gallery Concept of peace might be different for each person. For some people, peace can be defined as a quiet state. For the rest, it can refer to an agreement to end the war. Meanwhile, seeking peace can also mean moving toward true self-definition which will bring us to the subtle wisdom. Embracing the concept of peace, “Peaceful Seeker #1” sees six artists represent their hypothesis about character, memory, identity and human-nature relationship which are all based on their anxiety to find and define the essence of peace. | Tonyraka Art Gallery, Jl. Raya Mas No. 86, Ubud

The Purity of Esthetic Now – May 16 The Oberoi Bali

The Oberoi Bali showcases the works of Indonesian artist, Adrian Palar, in an exhibition themed “The Purity of Esthetic”. The artist’s abstract geometric works express a vision of the world, implicitly showcasing the Indonesian nature, as well as its colors. For him, the world is structured along two lines; the horizontal which expresses the complexity of natural and social reality, and the vertical which expresses one’s attempt to escape and relate to the unknown and godly. These lines are often expressed in green, representing his idea of living among the rice fields. | The Oberoi Bali, Jl. Kayu Aya, Seminyak

ART

IBK Sindu Putra Balinese artist, IBK Sindu Putra, is probably one of the most emerging artists in the island today. He works with crumpled-paper and he also creates puzzle-like works. Through his crumpled, black and white works, he presents his artistic take on Balinese exoticism and past. He also often borrows the characters from his favorite comic books and he puts them side by side with Balinese traditional motifs. His art is a reminiscence and exploration, and this is what he wants to show his audience. His works are now displayed at three venues; Denpasar Art Space until May 13, as well as at ARTOTEL Sanur and Tonyraka Art Gallery until May 15. How did you become an artist? I began my art career professionally in 2004 when I first exhibited. Meanwhile, I’ve been experiencing art since I was a child. Besides being influences by my late grandfather who was a self-taught carver, I also lived in a Brahmin environment where I could easily find art objects used for religious ceremonies like puppet paintings, carvings and statues. It’s embedded in my memory indirectly. After elementary school, I preferred to see pictures from the magazines purchased by my father and imitate them. When I was in junior high school, I liked to read Japanese comics; the most famous one was the Dragon Ball. From there, I started drawing human figures. Seeing my interest in drawing, my father then advised me to continue my study at High School of Arts in Batubulan, so that I could hone my skills. Where do your inspirations come from? Everything that happens in my life is a source of inspiration for my work. However, I prefer to work on self-criticism which may later be a mirror for others to see the ‘soul’ of my art.

How did your idea of creating art with this technique begin? The idea of working with these materials began from seeing the crumpled paper used to wrap rice. The crumple of this wasted paper then gave me an understanding of memory and life experience. Just like a blank sheet of paper, humans start as a pure being before experiencing so many things in life. Not always the good experiences, but also the bad and painful ones. And after that, they might be getting thrown away, just like the crumpled paper. However, they often don’t realize that all the memories of those experiences can make them stronger today to face the future. With this in mind, I create an art concept of ‘feeling’ the memories. The memories here can be the past experiences related to myself. Technically, the crumpled imagery is the metaphor of the past memories. Meanwhile, the puzzlelike concept is an analogy of how human memories and thoughts about the past, just like the process of finishing a puzzle. In some of your works, you also blend anime characters and their traditional motifs? What’s the meaning of it? The anime characters mark the metaphor of my desire as an artist. Meanwhile, the traditional motifs represent my responsibility as a Balinese.

SPA

Lumbung Spa Recently renovated, this spa marries local and natural in each of their treatments

LOOK Among the lush gardens and tropical trees of Hotel Vila Lumbung lies Lumbung Spa where guests can immerse themselves in a rejuvenating spa experience through the selection of treatments offered. Utilizing its own lumbunglike building, this spa maintains the classic Balinese details in its interior, featuring wooden furniture, local paintings and carved doors. The spa houses two couple rooms, a dedicated area for hair treatments, manicure and pedicure, as well as an outdoor treatment bale for those who prefers different ambience. FEEL Lumbung Spa offers a quite extensive selection treatments for face and body, including various massage and exfoliation options. What we preferred on our visit was their 30-minute “Back Massage” (110k) which was not only good to cure back pain, but also super relaxing. Using a deep pressure, the massage aimed to help alleviate our muscle tension. The pressure was applied gently along the meridian, as well as to the pressure points, helping the joints function better. Our session on the day was then continued with the 60-minute “Refresher Facial” (210k). What made this treatment special was that it used fresh, natural ingredients for the whole treatment, including cucumber, candlenut and yogurt. Using products with no preservatives and additives, what we had as a result was a rejuvenated, nourished

and healthier skin. Moreover, it was also super safe for sensitive skin. INGREDIENTS For the massage, the spa offers three kinds of aromatherapy for guests to choose from. The options are jasmine, lavender, lemongrass and sandalwood. Each provides a pleasant aroma to help the mind relax during the treatment. For the facial, the ingredients used include yogurt as the toner, mashed candlenut as the scrub and sliced cucumber as the mask. MAGIC Having been renovated recently, Lumbung Spa now presents a new concept of wellbeing through their newly-curated menu. Inspired by Indonesian heritage, their treatments combine traditional techniques and natural herbs, providing their guests an unforgettable spa experience. Add it with their trained therapists, this spa could be in your list when you’re looking for a spa destination in Seminyak.

My first session at Nirvana was amazing in so many levels, with approximately 11 years of never ending learning experience as a fitness professional myself – I have tried many different trainings and the class with Ian turned out to be that last piece of the puzzle I’ve been searching for. Nothing more exciting to a fitness enthusiast than a well thought out training class led by a knowledgeable coach. The class started with Ian guiding us through the basic fundamentals. One of the things we worked on in the class that day was performing a chin up hold in the top position for a required 5 sets of 60 seconds with 30 seconds over a grip bent lean on the stall bar as recovery in between sets. As simple as it might have looked, much to my surprise performing an iso-hold for that long was a total savage to say the least. I guess I figured one of my weaknesses. Though we all tend to avoid working on the weak side – it doesn’t work that way at Nirvana, this is the place where mastering the basics is a must, a place for everyone to up their game by first learning about their body and acknowledging that first we must be willing to work on our weaknesses rather than skipping them as part of the process of mastering amazing athletic skills. I was totally amazed with how much the class Ian led taught me about my body and how rejuvenated I felt after the class, certainly not a common feeling you experience often after a training session. Nirvana covers all the bases and all classes are focusing on mastering the basics first. They offer a progressive system of gymnastic strength training and Olympic weight lifting classes for both beginners and advanced students based on progressive exercises to create long, lean strong muscles. Over 70 fitness classes are being offered from Essentials, Mobility, Flexibility, Movement, Gymnastic Intro, Gymnastic Conditioning Essentials, Gymnastics Intermediate, Handstands intro, Rings intro and many

more – all performed with attention to detail through knowledgeable programming to get your fitness to the next level. Their facilities are as state of the art as the coaching and programs. The spacious gym has all the highest quality equipment such as stall bars, ring bars with gymnastic flooring specially installed to meet the highest standard – they also have the best weight lifting platform I’ve ever seen on the island, the restaurant have everything you need to fuel you both pre or post workout. No that’s not all, they have EMS lounge and Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers beside other recovery amenities such as dipping pool, dry sauna, ice bath as well as hot bath – now that’s world class! Nirvana’s intelligent programming, knowledgeable coaches with fantastic facilities to match has made it a perfect place to both train and recover, it’s suitable for everyone with any fitness level and abilities wanting a complete fitness package. If you are weight lifting enthusiasts, you don’t want to miss their upcoming event : a two day seminar with a world champion Zhang Jie on June 2 – 9, 2018, where you will get to train with this former Chinese World Champion and the current Singapore National Team Coach. It is the first time a Chinese champion will coach the Chinese methodology outside of China. Words don’t do justice to explain how amazing Nirvana is, you must come and see for yourself as there is so much more to it and if you want to try the classes, this is the best time as they still have 10% OFF of the all access Membership (ends May 31, 2018).
