Yes, we are in the depths of the low season and there is no denying it is rather quiet, but not to worry, it will be soon back to über busy before you know it. It’s enjoyable being able to get around town with the minimum of fuss, though, sometimes even driving around Seminyak without having to stop at the traffic lights as the traffic jams are now almost non-existent. There is always a silver coating. I’ve been enjoying the afternoon rains lately too. As long as your roof isn’t leaking, I also really do enjoy a rainy wet season. But even with the rain and the low season we still see some amazing acts coming our way and this period is no exception. The return of Jeffrey Sutorious aka Dash Berlin is an interesting show at Sky Garden this weekend. He had a major fallout with his partners over the Dash Berlin name and was burnt out after relentless years of touring, and all this just after the last show he played at The Dome on NYE 2018. It apparently has been year of litigation, accusations and counter-accusations since then and only in the past couple of months the situation has been resolved. I know a lot of people in Bali have a great affection for Sutorius or Dash, however you want to call him, and it will be an interesting show this Saturday. I want to mention another show of interest at LXXY next Tuesday. Superman is Dead, with JRX, who does more than just about anyone on this island to keep it on the right path will be playing live. Should be an interesting gig. Other big shows are on too, and you know where to find them, right inside this magazine or online, thebeatbali.com or our Instagram page @thebeat.bali. Have a good couple of weeks, friends, talk to you soon somewhere around the traps and venues of the Bali nightlife.

SCOOP Nyepi news The Ogoh Ogoh parade on the night before Nyepi, or Pengerupukan, in and around Denpasar may be quieter this year after the Denpasar Cultural Board prohibited the use any kind of sound system on the night. Denpasar Mayor, Rai Mantra, hopes that the celebration will be safe, comfortable and can be accepted by the community within religious and cultural ethics. He explained that they have agreed in only allowing the use of traditional Balinese music instruments because the creativity of the parade should show the cultural identity. He also hoped that all of the ogoh ogoh don’t have any political, pornographic and discriminatory elements and banned the use of Styrofoam. Here’s to a cleaner, more traditional Nyepi Ogoh-ogoh celebration this 2019 on March 6! Nyepi is March 7.
SOS: Schools of Sustenance Indonesia Scholars Of Sustenance Indonesia, Bali’s wonderful Food Rescue subsidiary of SOS Global foundation, is at it again. Recently two new orphanages, Sidhu Astu and Yapendra Sanglah, were added as recipients of good nutrition. From their offices in Jalan Dewi Sri in Kuta, SOS Bali redistributes surplus food from commercial entities to the needy all over Bali. Lately SOS has grown dramatically as excess food from commercial outlets such as hotels is plentiful on our beautiful island. Instead of rotting away generating methane gasses, this excess food fills hungry stomachs. It’s good for our people and environment. Hotels cannot avoid food waste in serving customers, so we encourage all hotels to provide this food to those in need.
Valentine in Bali Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! If you happen to be on the island on that day, you’re lucky! There are many options of things that you can do with your beloved one to rekindle and continue the romance. If you’re looking for some relaxation session for couples, go for the alluring Valentine’s package promos by Karma Kandara or Valentine Week Spa Special by The Body Temple at Finns Rec Club. Other interesting stuff to attend include the Valentine’s Day Single Mingle Party at the Woobar, Valentine vibe at Soka and some fun bowling session ‘Bowl Your Valentine Over’ at Finn Rec Club. Stay tuned to our website for the full details of each event!

Solardo at Omnia Manchester’s popular production duo, Solardo are en route to the cliffside of Omnia Dayclub, Uluwatu for a tech house trip on February 10. After a wild 2018, with standout sets at Circoloco, Manchester and at Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE, EDC, Glastonbury, Lovebox, and their Hï Ibiza residency alongside Eric Prydz, Solardo are just getting started! Their latest release “Accelerator” in collaboration with CamelPhat has had support across Radio 1 with Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Danny Howard to name a few. Whether their touring the world with Jamie Jones, spinning with Green Velvet and Jackmaster in underground clubs and festivals, the support Solardo has is as solid as the bass weight their tracks possess. We caught up with the UK duo, Mark Richards and James Eliot, to talk about Solardo, touring and more! You’ve had a crazy past couple of years touring the world! What are some of the most memorable moments of your career so far? Parklife festival last year was insane. We played
44
www.thebeatbali.com
early on the Circoloco stage as we were playing somewhere else that night and when we got there, about 20 minutes before the set, there was only a few hundred people at the stage. We then went to our trailer and had a couple of drinks before we went on thinking about what to play as the crowd was so small. We then walked up to the stage at stage time and, because of the size of the stage, we couldn’t see the arena. We then walked out on stage to around 20,000 people. We couldn’t believe it. It was very surreal. I don’t even know how that many people could have appeared in just 20 minutes. But it was mint. How does it feel becoming more and more well known in the music world? How did it all begin? Its feels really, really f**%ing great, thanks! Life is a dream and we have to pinch ourselves from time to time. However, we are working harder than ever and as things get bigger for us then it adds new pressures and challenges as the responsibilities become a lot more demanding whilst sticking to our guns. It sounds very
FEATURE clichéd but the pressure inspires us to not slow down, so bring it on! We started by playing and developing our sound at all night basement parties in Manchester with our mates. The ethos of Solardo was and will always be no matter who you are or what you are up to in life then come along, get involved and lets all have a rave. In terms of production, what are some of your inspirations and how do you incorporate these inspirations into your own productions? We’re always pushing ideas, developing our sound and learning. With tech-house it’s easy enough to bang together a sample with a 32 bar beat and a big drop but that ultimately just becomes cheesier and stale as more people jump on that bandwagon. We like to try and make tracks that have a more techno lean to them that are right for that moment at 4am. There’s also others where we spend time trying to incorporate those parts of house music where soul, depth and moving people into our work. As we’ve got more known, commercial opportunities have been presented to us which can be fun to look at as you’ll be taking a body of work that has been made to appeal to a certain audience and delivering our own take on it for what we are about. Sometimes it works, other times it’s straight into the bin. That’s all part of the process and learning curve though. Do you have any upcoming releases that you’re excited to show the world? We’ve started working with a wider group of topliners and session musicians and other artists recently to bring different ideas to the table. With our schedule being very demanding we need to make every opportunity count in the studio. For us at the moment it’s working with various musicians from outside our normal 9 - 5 scene. What are some parties/collaborations/ landmarks you are looking forward to experience in 2019? We’ve got big Ibiza news coming real soon. That’s something we have been sworn to secrecy for the moment so we’d be killed if we told you and we’re not a fan of getting killed :)
Parklife at our hometown in Manchester is always a highlight and we’re in the middle of working on the next run of HIGHER parties (our event series) which lets us program wider house & techno lineups based on our spectrum of taste. How do you feel about the underground music scene in Asia? The world we live in is getting smaller thanks to social media so you see and hear of all types of artists across the spectrum from the UK & Europe going over to Asia and having a great time touring. From where we sit it looked like there was a select number of clubs you’d see put house & techno acts on, with the rest of the market share going to EDM, but as times have changed and more house & techno events are in Asia then it only gets better for us and our peers as there are more people into the music and coming to hear you rather than just a hype thing. What’s your ideal party location? Outdoor? Indoor? Intimate or fully packed? Full of decorations? If you were in charge how would it go down? Depends on the type of event. For us the main thing is that everyone there is having a great time so it doesn’t matter if it’s a blacked out room with a single strobe or the production is in another world with confetti, stage shows, etc. Just has to be the right set up so everyone in the building can get involved and rave. Well, I reckon everyone will be ready to rave at Omnia next Sunday. What kind of vibe can we expect there? The full-on no holds barred Solardo experience What tracks are you starting and ending your sets with right now? What’s the reason why? We usually start our sets with something quite rolling and always brand new, I guess like our upcoming ‘Tango Wango’ track. (shameless plug yes)Towards the end of the sets we start playing our tracks as they get the best reactions. We then might finish on a classic

D’Wan Tea Mountain Side Villa
So you want to escape the commotion of Southern Bali and might have heard about the serene landscapes of Jatihluwih. If you haven’t, Jatiluwih is a UNESCO world heritage site where you can find endless rice paddies and come to grips with the “old Bali”. Among the exotic, lush greenery, up in the mountains, Pak Wawan Setiawan has turned his family home into an incredible bed & breakfast, hosting lucky visitors to a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience named D’Wan Tea Mountain Side Villa. Previous owner of the iconic Warung Tapas in Legian, Wawan moved to the hillsides of Jatiluwih with his wife to grow tea and consequentially was the first one to do so. While staying at D’Wan you are offered their three varieties of tea and are welcome to keep drinking them throughout your stay. Pair that with the spectacular views overlooking the mountains and you have yourself, what feels like, eternal bliss. Our one-night escape turned into two, after a last-minute decision to leave at sunrise the next morning and wake up to the mountain view, one more time. With more time on our hands and a certain adventurous spirit, we walked down to the river below to bathe in the rock pools. After exploring the surrounding, un-touched terrain and chatting to locals, we found our way back and jumped into the infinity pool back at D’Wan. A home-cooked meal for only 100k per person followed and we enjoyed the rest of the evening at the Yoga Shala rooftop before ending a perfect day away from civilization. The room rates vary from USD $89 – $125 on low season and $107 – $139 on high season. Inhouse cooking is recommended and there are a few restaurants a 10-minute drive away. We guarantee this place will be your cup of tea. www.thebeatbali.com

Brazilian Aussie BBQ Seminyak
ining out with friends doesn’t come easy in the rainy days, but meat lovers such as my friend and I would do pretty much anything for a delicious meat fest - especially when it’s at the famous Brazilian Aussie BBQ Seminyak I’ve heard so much about. The rain was pretty brutal that night, so much so that the rain jacket did very little to keep me dry. Arriving at the restaurant soaking wet was the only unpleasant part about the evening as the minute I walked in, I could smell some kind of meat paradise ahead of me. My friend was already there and picked a table for us outside, it’s impressive that the restaurant was still busy despite it raining cats and dogs. It must be that good, I thought. A mouth watering spread including an amazing variety of salads and soups and the rotisserie grill full of all sorts of meaty goodness at the back, such as rump cap, beef hump, garlic beef, michui (Brazilian style kebab), top sirloin, beef ribs, chicken and more. Not to mention a variety of sides such as roast potatoes, lyonaise potatoes, steam white rice and more are also available. Comfortably seated with a plateful of fresh salad on

While the hump was yet another juicy and tender the table and a refreshing glass of tropical slushy IDR meat goodness - the pineapple was a big wowzer to 30K, the staff started to bring in a variety of meats on my taste... and I wanted more. The waiter kept on skewers and shaving it right to your plate, the carvings coming with the glazed pineapple and I just couldn’t itself was very fascinating to watch. Beautifully sliced have enough of its amazing sweetness. Though the picanha was the first to fill up our plate, along with meat was the main star, the grilled pineapple was Chorizo sausages, lambs and delicious garlic bread. quite a highlight. Just head down to Makase Restaurant at Hotel Indigo Seminyak as they are now offering an exciting all-you-can-eat breakfast. Inspired by the resort’s lively neighborhood, the breakfast allows you to sample the distinctive tastes of local and western cuisines all at once, showcasing an abundance of delicious fare which is served across the breakfast’s many stations. Stepping into Makase Restaurant, we were greeted with the beautiful view of unique traditional adornments around the restaurant. They serve the food in various live stations alongside the open kitchen. Sat at our table, we were then served a welcoming shooter of fresh mixed apple and guava juice. Proceeding to the first station, we chose to go with a salad appetizer, then on the hot dishes table we chose from a selection of main courses including fried rice, fried noodles, tomato ratatoullie, sauteed mushroom, roast chicken BBQ, sauteed vegetables and potato wedges. During the feast, while we relaxed on our seat and enjoyed chatting with our friends, the staff delivered some light dishes for us to try. To add some more color to the spread, we tried their fruit station offering various slices and whole pieces of fruit. The pastry station offering some sweet Danishes and desserts. And let’s not forget the selection of dim sum of the day at Srikaya Pao.

What Do You Recommend, Lady L
Kumar Punch
Barman?
Barman: Gota There’s just something about a fresh fruity punch that completes any tropical holiday and makes just about every party that much better. If you need your punch to have a little kick, go for this Kumar Punch (110K++) at the new Lady L Bar in Petitenget. A fresh, amber-colored piece of perfection, recommended by the Lady L Bar barman, Gota. Taking the sophistication of the classic ice fruit punch with sweet and tangy flavours from the muddled strawberry, this cocktail is a not just fruity, but also very tasty. Shaken, not stirred, it mixes vodka with passion syrup and fresh tangerine. Smooth and sweet, Gota would say that it’s a glass of happiness everyone will love. Just ask him and Gota will be ready to mix up a Kumar Punch tropical storm/cocktail for you tonight! www.thebeatbali.com

Fire Restaurant at W bali - Seminyak
Our expectations were high as we strolled from the parking to the lobby of the W Hotel, but nothing could have prepared us for the feast that was to come… Having tried the buffet style, Sunday brunch at Fire before, I knew we were in for a treat with the dinner menu. The restaurant concept is self-explanatory but the story behind the interior is symbolical of the Balinese “Kecak” Dance, with the fire ball chandelier and the sarong styled glass pendants, to the visuals played out on the textured ceiling. Fire specializes in some of the finest cuts of meat, boasting a variety of styles and perfect

execution when it comes to cooking them. My date, however, is a pescatarian and the Fire crew catered to her needs with total care. Things got heated real quick (for me), when the waiter brought out a tray, explaining the different cuts of meat displayed – from the gigantic Signature Whiskey Dry Aged Black Angus Tomahawk, Obe Organic-Grass Fed Beef, to the Argentinian Rioplatense Grass Fed Aberdeen Black Angus. I ordered the finest out of them all, the Kiwami Pure bred Wagyu Striploin 9+ Marble (IDR 1,3M), with
FOOD a side of broccoli and asparagus to keep my date happy. After choosing the meat it was time to choose the knife… That’s correct! A tray of crazy cool knives appeared before us and I went for the French Laguiole aka “the machete”. Before using it, though, head mixologist Villa introduced himself and gave us the run down on the special cocktails that were on the way. The first round of delicious drinks arrived and we were sharing the Green Apple Blossom (145k) and the Liquid of Fire (155k) as the entrées began to arrive. We kept things chilled for the beginning of the meal, but by no means did we keep it that way for long. We shared the A Grade Tuna Ceviche (160k) and a Roasted Beet and Root Vegetable Salad (135k) to start. My previously mentioned Kiwami 9+ arrived next and I couldn’t control my salivations, cooked to a perfect mediumrare... it was a carnivore’s dream. Meanwhile in the pescatarian department, I could see crispy skin and a content smile. My partner ordered the Gold Band Snapper (190k) with a side of creamy spinach and was a happy camper. She washed it down with a Spice Chili Margarita (145k), while I opted for the Uncle Smokey (155k) – one of the W Hotel’s signature cocktails, where its creation is a unique visual experience in itself and perfect for anyone’s Instagram story. We ended the delightful rendezvous with the Salted Caramel Mousse (95k) and had to try the 64% Pod Chocolate Sphere (165k), that melted its way through our mouths and into our hearts, earning me serious brownie points. It wasn’t over though!! We moved to a private room for the grand finale, where our waiter commenced the Fire Ritual (200k). A warm drink that infuses Balinese fruits and honey, blazing them with bourbon and serving as the perfect digestive. Needless to say, this is one of the best date locations and dining experinces you will find in Bali, and worth every cent and gram of it. www.thebeatbali.com

MANISH’S ZODIAC PREDICTIONS The Beat astrologer Manish Kumar Arora reads into the next two weeks. Aries ( 21 March – 19 April )
Cancer ( 21 June – 22 July )
The sphere of finances will bring you several opportunities in 2019, ones that are quite real and with potential. The celestial forces will be on your side, but through your earthly environment you will find a couple of foes. Do not jump ahead about new acquaintances, even if the person fully likes you. Be especially attentive to the colleagues of the opposite sex, as it is them who might let you down during the most inopportune moment. Your relationships to those around you will be practically ideal, as you will start to find common points even in the most complicated and provocative of situations. Favorable Date : 10, 12, 20 Favorable Colors : White &Yellow
This period will be generous as regards the money that will come by means of chance, by secret procedures or by means of some discrete supporters and will favor serious, long-term investments. Your relationships to those around you will be practically ideal, as you will start to find common points even in the most complicated and provocative of situations. The untold magnificent atmosphere of light and warmth will surround you not only within your household, but also outside of its walls. You’ll have a lot of vitality, and even extra energy. Channel your strength towards well defined purposes, exercise and get involved in vigorous physical activities. Favorable Date : 7, 13, 15 Favorable Colors : Yellow&Grey
Taurus ( 20 April – 20 May )
Leo ( 23 July – 22 August )
You can make a lot of progress. You’ll develop very well and you’ll have valuable allies. The period will lend you energy, ambition and enterprising spirit. It will take you to the center of attention, highlighting your qualities and bringing you the respect and admiration of the people around you. It is now the right time to insist, as you can count on strong support. It is possible that sometimes you’ll encounter enmity or that things will develop more slowly than you wish. You should know how to trust, as accepting everyone in your circle would be a serious mistake. Favorable Date : 8, 11, 18 Favorable Colors : White &Red
It’ll be a period of erotic fantasies, secret wishes and forbidden love stories. The sentimental life seems to be surrounded by some discretion uncharacteristic of you. Career and personal achievements will take a backseat. There will be a large number of family celebrations and social entertainment. It’ll be an interval in which love will be the master: it will dictate and you’ll obey. You can experience sublime moments, but guard yourself against excesses as you can experience troubles. The untold magnificent atmosphere of light and warmth will surround you not only within your household, but also outside of its walls. Favorable Date : 8, 12, 15 Favorable Colors : Blue&Red
Gemini ( 21 May – 20 June )
Virgo ( 23 August – 22 September )
Major changes are expected in your career. Promotions and pay rises can be expected. Job changes are likely and they will be for the better. Businesses will undergo total transformations. All changes should be viewed from an emotional point of view. Only then will it result in your personal happiness. Avoid ambiguities and blurry preparations with work affiliates, or consequently they will present you with an invoice that you will be incapable to pay. Relationship with your spouse will be highly romantic. Partying and entertainment will dominate your love life. Favorable Date : 9, 12, 19 Favorable Colors : White & Green
This period you will be presented with plenty of opportunities to get into love relationships. Love will be volatile initially, but becomes very delightful after 21st. Love is to be found in social parties. The period will be warm, seductive and very sensual. The sentimental enthusiasm will reach its peak, and your devastating charm will make victims. A passionate period, the blood will go faster in your veins, your wishes will be more ardent and the impulses will be expressed more forcefully. Sympathize, love, be amazed, “feel” the world around you. Favorable Date : 10, 14, 19 Favorable Colors : Green&Red
72

Libra ( 23 September – 22 October )
Capricorn ( 22 December – 19 January )
This period will manifest energetically, generating great enthusiasm, urging you to make decisions, to open new horizons, to act forcefully. You’ll have to commit, to progress, to fight. You’re not recommended to stagnate. Inactivity can bring along conflicts and accidents. You can accomplish great things. However, you need to act wisely, based on a well-thought-of plan made in advance, not in an impulsive or disorganized way.The sphere of finances will bring you several opportunities, ones that are quite real and with potential. Your task is simple – do not miss them. Favorable Date : 9, 15, 19 Favorable Colors : Grey & Red
This could be quite an ambiguous time, despite the fact that all complicated situations will be solved in your favour. The celestial forces will be on your side, but through your earthly environment you will find a couple of foes through which stars will seriously try to ruin your hopes and plans. Do not jump ahead about new acquaintances, even if the person fully likes you. Try to consider the situation by staying a few steps ahead and see the most possibilities of how the situation can develop. Your immunity won’t be too good, so you can end up developing diseases that attack a weak and exhausted body very easily. Favorable Date : 9, 15, 18 Favorable Colors : Purple & Grey
Scorpio ( 23 October – 21 November )
Aquarius ( 20 January – 18 February )
You are likely to put more attempt on group tasks and make every reasonable effort to make the workplace environment look like the Mediterranean Sea one. You will have their support in accomplishing your financial objectives. Businessmen should focus on promoting their products which will give good returns. Believe the fact that it is far more pleasing to execute among the helpful, pleasant persons than to squabble with co-workers. There’ll appear the impulse of clearing things up, of taking the initiative. Your home will undergo major transformations and luxurious items will be added to furnish your residence. Favorable Date : 10, 14, 17 Favorable Colors : White & Purple
This period could find you forming a new business partnership as you clear the way for a new funding stream. There could be talk of reorganization where joint finances are concerned. Embrace the open road to both travel and education. Developing new ideas and mentoring help you secure much needed income. Putting your ideas to the test can challenge old systems and help you embrace new directions. New responsibilities at work will have you organizing in creative ways. Navigating social connections can be tricky as you bump into territorial types. Your community connections could open doors that were previously closed. Favorable Date : 8, 14, 18 Favorable Colors : Green & Blue
Sagittarius ( 22 November -21 December )
Pisces ( 19 February – 20 March )
Financially, there are optimistic signals. But again, the issue is with patience and strategy. In case you apply the correct strategies, success will come, and it will reach its highest visibility. Envy and disinclination to listen to your association can cause immediate romantic endeavors to end, so just want to prevent this. The formula for satisfying family associates interaction continues to be the same: passion. Pain and investing the nights at the house with family associates and not in the workplace in the organization of other workaholics remains the core. Favorable Date : 12, 17, 19 Favorable Colors : White & Blue
This period highlights both work and health as your energy gets a boost. Reorganize and prioritize work to stay on track as the pace picks up. Energy you put behind projects will spur new ideas to both teach and learn. You can turn a dream into a reality as you partner with others that have the same philosophy and goals. Putting your ideas to the test will launch you into a new window of excitement and possibility. Have faith in your inspirations to go after what you want and embrace something that increases your level of respect and ownership. Favorable Date : 7, 11, 15 Favorable Colors : Brown & Blue

Now- March 4th The Oberoi Bali
The Oberoi Bali is again giving their space to Indonesia’s best artist and this time Dipo Andy has the chance to showcase his best works. As one of the pioneers of new digital-inspired art, we will see the other side of Dipo Andy. In this exhibition, there will be no digitally made painting, no usual pop art works of Dipo as he thought he had to give up the “fake” world his works exposed. Fake because of their referential icons, fake because of the digital print technique he used. And what is the exact opposite to fully digital controlled images? Abstraction. In this exhibition, you will see him let himself go in form and color, toward the unknown. Jl. Kayu Aya, Seminyak, Kuta
Now- April 2nd, 2019 Pullman Legian A total of 50 paintings by local artists from the Batuan Village of Gianyar, Dewa Putu Arsania, is now exhibited at the Pullman Hotel, Legian Lobby. The traditional styled paintings take a lot of ideas from local daily life. In the artist’s first solo exhibition there are black and white and colored paintings in which the oldest of the paintings was created in 1997 entitled Sowarga Rowana Purwa measuring 145x95cm telling a story about Rahwana in Heaven. This exhibition is surely a step for the now rarely found Batuan painting artist to shine brighter. Jl. Melasti No.1, Legian

ART
Laila Tifah I do draw a lot about women. It could be a memorable event, an object that symbolizes women and everything related to women. You can access my collection at http://lailatifah. com/gallery.php or on my Instagram @laila_tifah
Originally coming from Yogyakarta, Laila Tifah had always had a creative mind ever since she was just a little girl. Despite choosing interior design as her major in university, she is now able to make art as her current career path. She always tries to embedded women’s value into her distinctive artworks. She wants to tell her fellow female artist to never let anyone stop you from doing what want to be doing in life. How did it begin? Since I was a kid, I grow up watching my father in his workshop. I was very familiar with canvas, oil paint fragrance and brushes. I feel the energy that flows within my father who chose painting as his profession, even though at that time, painting for me was just a hobby. I have not decided yet whether if I will choose painting for the source of my earnings. Actually, I studied Interior design at ISI Yogyakarta, but once I graduated from the university, I chose to persue painting as a profession. Tell me about your artwork. I don’t specifically follow any genre or any technique in my works. When I start painting, I usually find something new in process that could be really different from what I planned at the beginning.
What do you want to convey to your audience? My drawing are mostly directed towards women. Just like my artwork I named “Condroso”. Basically, Condroso is a weapon used by Estri Soldiers (Mangkunegaran Female Soldier) that is concealed in form of a hair accessory. When a soldier is in a pinch, this hair accessory that at a glance looks like a regular accessory, can be a deadly weapon. A soldier can use the Condroso to stab her enemy with the sharp edge. This weapon is not only used in Java, but in Bali as well. I would like to spread the message that women shall be able to protect her being and her dignity as well. Nowadays, using physical force might be inapplicable. However, women can do this by showing intelligence, behavior, and the bravery on expressing her voice. What is your advice to fellow female artists to stand out in the artist world? You have to set your goal first. You should decide what is your artwork for. You might be disappointed if you only wish to get money from it. You should be ready for the process. Most women get distracted and stop working once they get married. You should always work on new ideas all the time. Note every idea comes to your mind and see the possibilities. You should archive every work you produce. Never stop working, even though the art is not giving you enough money at the beginning. Consider your early work as an investment on creating the Artist you. You’ll never know, maybe one day, the people will start discussing it. www.thebeatbali.com

SPA
Ambiente Spa at Amadea Resort and Villas A fun Massage Course experience LOOK Nestled inside a beautiful resort on Jalan Kayu Aya, Seminyak, Ambiente Spa is divided into two spaces. One on the second floor and the second located on the rooftop of the resort. Ethnic Balinese adornment fill both spaces. The spa houses two single treatment rooms and two for couples with a small shower to refresh your body after the treatment. Before we started, we were offered to fill the consultation form to get the most out of today’s treatment. FEEL The treatments listed on their menu focused on healing and relaxation. They also offer a Fun Massage Course with two hours of massage practice and a free one hour full body massage. We tried their body massage course (IDR 790K net/person). In order to do the course package, we had to bring a friend to be the model of our practice. The course started with a brief explanation of basic upper back and shoulder anatomy. Making sure that we understood, our tutor asked us to point out the name of each anatomic part. The next step is learning the movement. We were taught several massage techniques including Effleurage, Thumb slide, Petrisage and Friction. Our tutor was slowly showing us the right way to do each of these movements and then she patiently guided us to do the the same. If we still didn’t get those right, she would be happy to guide us and repeat everything until we comprehend every lesson. We finished the course and got an attendance certificate, a massage course booklet, one voucher of 20% discount on Food and Beverage at Bistro Batu Kali and not to forget the most awaited bonus, a free one hour full body massage done by their professional therapist. Going to another part of the spa
on the rooftop of Amadea Resort, we started the free massage session by choosing the essential oils. The one hour full body massage gave us a full relaxation time after two hours of learning at the course. At the end of the session, we were offered a cup of ginger tea and cookie to warm up our body. INGREDIENTS For the full body massage treatment, the spa focuses on using local products which contain Balinese herbs and spices as the ingredients. Not only do these oils possess a distinctive aroma, they also bring positive benefits for your body and health. The options are vitality oil made of strawberry and coconut, Balinese oil made of frangipani and coconut, and dream oil made of orange and coconut. MAGIC Ambiente Spa has a variety of treatments on their menu, starting from the beauty treatments, traditional treatments to fullbody rituals. Aside from the treatment, the massage course is definitely worth a try if you want to practice an accurate relaxation massage by yourself. The course was fun and very helpful. The tutor wouldn’t let us leave the course until we nailed the massage movement. This, their affordable prices, and it’s safe to say that Ambiente Spa is one of the best options you can find in Seminyak.

CD REVIEW
8/10 comeback kids
TOY
Happy in the Hollow Stumbling into the psychedelic netherworld of Toy is nothing if not a giddy thrill – all soaring chunks of garage-rock and post-punk drama fronted by scraggly-haired frontman Tom Dougall, who croons away like a hungover spectre from behind his fringe as the rest of the band disappear into a heavily feedbacked Krautrock clatter. Emerging all the way back in 2012 on coattails of East London ‘it’ band The Horrors, Brighton quintet TOY (rhymes with Neu!) had pretty much lost sight of the plot by their third impermeable outing “Clear Shot”. Anything but clear, it undid all the groundwork they’d laid down on albums one and two.
Thankfully, they’re back on sparkling form here, delivering some of their best tracks to date. Curtain-raiser “Sequence One” and the hurtling “Energy” revert to the throbbing autobahn basslines of their self-titled debut. Meanwhile, in a subtle deviation from the usual script, “Last Warmth of the Day” and “Mistake a Stranger” add folky picking and a lazy twanging guitar into the mix for a more sophisticated, less 60’s fixated songcraft. Elsewhere, vocal duties are shuffled around, with Dougall stepping back from the mic to let bassist Maxim Barron have a pop on nu-gazey “You Make Me Forget Myself”. The sound of a recharged and re-energised band, “Happy in the Hollow” shows TOY have found their groove again. Dan Ashcroft
