It

really is amazing how fast the southern part of Bali has been developing in the last couple of years. Yes sure, there is a lot you can complain about, including the condition of the traffic and roads, the lack of infrastructure etc, etc, but Bali still remains a very attractive destination for many new holiday makers and regular visitors. Whatever happened to Low Season? Good question. Around Seminyak it’s as busy as ever and the restaurants and bars are really firing on all cylinders and don’t look like backing off till after Christmas. There are some others that aren’t doing so well, but that’s another story.

The Beat Magazine is Bali and Jakarta’s entertainment gig-guide. Pick it up free at the airport, bars, restaurants, clubs, hotels and Circle K in Bali. We are an independent publication and our aim is to entertain and guide you thru the nightlife and more of Bali and Jakarta.

subscribe@beatmag.com

Meanwhile, the entertainment is flowing into town at a full bore rate. DJs and live performers are coming including The Stafford Brothers, Korina Bliss and Goodgrip, but the big one no doubt is the Living End – Aussie band that is well famed for putting on one of the greatest shows you’ll ever see live – playing in two weeks time. Check for more details inside.

and we’ll send you payment details. Want to be on the beatlist and get uptodate info via email. Send an email to

The Beat Radio Plus 98.5fm is holding a DJ music event at Kudeta on Friday October 29 too. If you want to get into the KUVE area for the action you will need to listen to 98.5fm and follow the instructions on how to get your entry pass, which will get you a very decent welcome drink and a great evening of TBRP 98.5 sounds. There’s a very limited supply of those tickets so be quick.

We’d like to say a fond farewell to our dear Athron at this juncture as he moves onto other pursuits and welcome Renaldi to his new position as editor at this silly little mag. Cheers, and thank you all.

Fransoa Launches at METIS This Saturday night, October 16, at the METIS restaurant anniversary, local French performer Fransoa will be launching his new video and hit track, “If I Had a Hammer” – a tribute of sorts to the late French singer Claude Francois. He will be performing that track and more at the party with the help of dancers and his entourage to celebrate the first anniversary of METIS. The night is themed Retro Disco and it looks like our own Fransoa will be leading the charge back to the future. Get glam and get seventies from 11pm for the performance (150K) or enjoy an elegant 4 course dinner before the show to celebrate with DouDou and Said – but best to book in advance. who is the Fenzi-est of them all?

The club may still be new but Boshe has sure brought in the crowds with its great lineup of performers from DJ’s to bands and singers and the reputation is building as a hotspot far from the usual places in Seminyak and Kuta. To bring the Boshe name to the masses, the club will be searching for ten iconic individuals who embody the Boshe image (and that means all you beautifully ‘cool cats’!). If you think you got what it takes, by all means strut your stuff in the ‘Boshe Fenzi Girl’ search for the chance to be one of the lucky ten women representing Boshe and also be in the running for over $3000 in cash prizes. For more information or to apply for the competition call 3603980 (office) or 8235507(club)

The festival circuit has also welcomed her, showcasing her booty-shaking beats on the stages of DEMF, UltraFest, Bestival, Electric Zoo, Exit Festival, Balaton, and many more. Discovering the Midwest Rave scene as a teen saw him traveling to Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and Milwaukee to hear the unique sounds of the area, where he first heard and connected with minimal acid and techno. Determined to make his own way on the scene, he stockpiled records, bought equipment, and in 1999 moved to New York City where he continued to experiment with music within the minimal scene and found the first public exposure for his work. Jesse now lives in Berlin where music production and Djing are his full time gig, except of course when he’s going international. are Now Both Heidi and Heartthrob will be hitting the top floor at Anantara to bring us a solid mix of their styles for the ‘We Love Techno Part II’ Party. The Stafford Brothers Hu’u Sat 30 Oct 10pm

Why have ‘sibling rivalry’ when you can join forces and take your success even further? The Stafford Brothers have taken this concept to great heights and even bigger stages. Hailing from New Zealand, a move to the Gold Coast in 1995 saw both boys heavily involved in sports before taking music seriously. Quickly gaining a reputation for highly energetic DJ sets, a career behind the decks was built and with it came a stream of production work, remixes, world tours and a signing to dance monolith Ministry of Sound. These days, if you know house music then you no doubt know their work. We got to know Matt a little better before he got to know the sound system at Hu’u bar... What were your initial breaks as a duo hoping to make waves in the music industry? Production of music is something that has helped to make waves for us. Our track ‘More Than a Feeling’ definitely made people more aware of us. We also got to do a lot of festivals in Australia after its release, so were put in front of a lot of people at once, which definitely gave us a break. You’ve now had a career together spanning over a decade; what have been some of your biggest changes in direction over that time and what would you attribute them to?

048 | beatmag.com

Our biggest change in direction was after a trip to Ibiza, we did that very early on in our career and it changed our sound dramatically. The vibe and house sound of Ibiza is one that can’t be beaten, and I think everybody should experience the island as it is definitely magical! Did you have any other career paths that were left behind when you decided to push it all the way in the world of music? Yes, sport, I was a professional Rugby player, and had to make a decision between that and music. I am happy with the choice I made!

onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic What have been some of your wildest experiences on the international scene to date? I would say in Mykonos we have had some pretty endless parties, especially at Paradise club. On one occasion, the crowd was saying one more and it was 8am, but we ended up playing until about 10:30am! That party could have never stopped! What have been some of the biggest contrasts in scenes as you’ve moved around the globe? Everywhere is so different. The crowds change but people all love to dance to good music. Going to Serbia was a very different place to what we had been used to. We are just about to tour South America and we have never been there, so we’re extremely excited to see what that scene is like. Who looks after what when it comes to both your musical collaboration as a duo and taking care of the business side of things? I look after more of the business side and Chris looks after more of the musical side. As I’m doing this interview, Chris is listening to loads of new music, so getting that side of things ready. It’s great to have two of us. Who have been some of the easiest people to work with on the collaboration front?

also did the national Future Music festival in Australia, we played the main stage and performed before Eric Morillo every day of the tour and it was an amazing experience, 35,000 people going crazy every day! What’s been getting high rotation on your iPod of late? Podcasts, I love them! Roger Sanchez, Toolroom, you can also download The Stafford Brothers podcasts from iTunes! Who would you consider a ground breaker on the electronic scene today? The French guys like Justice seem to be breaking new sounds, that’s for sure. Someone like David Guetta is breaking the pop side of electronic music, there are just so many people producing and pushing electronic music, it keeps getting bigger and bigger. Have you been to Bali before? Expectations? We played about four or five years ago at Double 6 club. We had a great time; I got to go surfing, which I love. We were also recently over for a wedding, so I know Bali and I know how beautiful it is, but also how much people like to have a good time. We are really looking forward to coming back.

Jason Herd, Dabruck and Klein, the Hoxton Whores, Tom Neville, all the people we work with really! If a track has been released it is because we have worked easily with that person, there have been a few collaborations that haven’t worked out, but those tracks don’t matter in the end.

How would you define your sound and what can we expect to hear when we see you at Hu’u Bar?

Anyone have a marked effect on your own style or way of doing things?

Plans for the rest of 2010 and beyond?

I think, as a performer, Eric Morillo is always great to watch; The Sweedes, both for production and also as performers. Those are the kinds of sounds we love and its great to be inspired by them, and we definitely look to do what they do. What have been the best moments for you over the last year? This last year we have toured all through Canada, Europe, some of Asia and now we’re about to do South America and Indonesia. I just love going to all the new places and experiencing new things. We

I would say our sound is House music, but music that gets the party going. Expect to see the dance floor rocking!

We have our current overseas tour which ends back in Australia in November, we then have a national tour of Australia, which is taking in the whole country, and also the Summadayze National Festival tour over the summer into 2011. We will then be heading to North America for a tour in Feb/March, so it is super busy at the moment!

Get to know the Stafford Brothers even better by getting to Hu’u on Saturday night, the 30th Oct for their explosive set...

or all the sports fans who love their AFL, the last couple of weeks saw twice as much attention to the game with a grand final that demanded two matches before proving a winner. Both Stadium and Bianco were set up for the masses and as the beer ran cold, the enthusiasm remained strong. Many might wander who wins the most when it comes to a complete rematch that calls for more ticket sales and advertising space, but another chance to let the team spirit loose with friends and booze is never a hard cause none the less. eing a Thursday it was a slower night out for Kama Sutra’s ‘Mambo Jambo’ themed party, but for those that got along, the magic wasn’t lacking with a theatrical magician and fashion show. DJ Boim Getho hit the decks, spinning until the early hours of the morning. Even mid week sessions are worth checking out down Kuta way as the entertainment is on tap and never seems to slow down.

Best: Lines Before a Death

Whether you’re seeing someone off or it’s your own time to kiss the world goodbye, you best be prepared with a line worth writing about. These guys were… Blade Runner. Replicant Roy Batty’s deeply moving soliloquy on a rain-lashed rooftop looks back on his four-year life: “All those moments will be lost in time... like tears... in rain. Time... to die.” Terminator 2: Judgement Day From the catalogue of Arnie killing spree gems, the Terminator’s classic “Hasta la vista... baby,” from T2:JD had to top them all. The Wizard of Oz The stuff of nightmares for generations of kids, the melty death of the Wicked Witch of the West isn’t something she takes lightly: “I’m melting! I’m melting! Oh what a world! Who would have thought that some little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness?!” 2001: Space Odyssey Astronaut Bowman disassembles evil HAL, the killer supercomputer, who suddenly emerges as the human character in Kubrick’s classic: “I’m afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it…” Cue an eerie rendition of ‘Daisy, Daisy’. Creepy, yet strangely moving. King Kong. As the mortally wounded great ape falls from the Empire State Building and his huge heart “derdums” to a gradual halt, Carl Denham explains, “It wasn’t the airplanes. It was beauty killed the beast.” Sob.

Pulp Fiction Samuel L Jackson delivers one hell of a biblical pre-murder speech in this cult classic: “Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you!” Tarantino gold. True Romance. More genius from Tarantino as ex-cop Hopper gets ready to bite the bullet of Italian gangster Walken, who sits in stunned silence as Hopper informs him exactly where his ancestors came from. “Now tell me, am I lying? Cos you, you’re part eggplant!” Bang. White Heat A brutal gangster with an unhealthy obsession with his dear old mum, Arthur ‘Cody’ Jarrett (James Cagney) ends up cornered by the feds on a giant gas tower. Blasting the tank with bullets, he yells, “Made it, Ma! Top of the world!” Army of Darkness: Evil Dead 3 As time travelling Ash Williams points a loaded shotgun at his ‘loverturned-evil-zombie-chick’, she screams, “You loved me once!” to which he calmly responds, “Honey, you got real ugly!” before pulling the trigger. Boomski. Jaws Steven Spielberg managed to creep into the psyche of every man, woman and child who ever entered the ocean, a swimming pool, or bath tub again. Or was that just us? In the closing scenes of Jaws, Chief Brody finally allows us to pry our fingernails out of the sofa cushions, as he sees off the monster shark with the classic line “Smile, you son of a bitch…(BOOM!)” Get some, fishface!

Scaring the Spirits out of Pontianak By Cracker With hundreds of cannons being fired from either bank of a river that runs through the city, each year a festival in Pontianak of West Borneo celebrates the story of the city’s founding; a story that contains ghosts, pirates, a sultan, and of course, some killer cannons at the centre of it all. 064 | beatmag.com

H

aving moved to Bali from Pontianak some years back, my partner Sophie first spoke to me of the Cannon Festival in her hometown as one of her classic childhood memories. Sounding like an event unlike any other I had experienced in Indonesia I was keen to check it out, so before long, plans were set in motion and we were on our way. We arrived in Borneo (or Kalimantan, as referred to by Indonesians) just two days before the end of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting. The celebrations of Idul Fitri were also just around the corner so everybody seemed to be holding their breath with anticipation for holidays, family catch-ups and the chance to get back into some daytime dining. Our first stop was to visit a local crew of musicians that were providing entertainment for the festival by turning a cargo barge into a floating stage. Bingo. We now had a perfect place to view the show.

feature

Left: The crowd thickens around a viewing area where the Sultan is seated.

The festival was still 24 hours away but already we could hear what sounded like a battle raging in the distance. Eager to get some visuals and a grip on the surroundings, we jumped on a bike and headed to the Jembatan Tol Bridge where it was a clear view down the river; cannons sticking out from both sides like stitches binding the banks together. Painted with bright yellow and aqua blue stripes to stand out against the muddy water below, they gave a more playful rather than ominous impression, stationed in clumps of four or five and mostly erected in front of mosques that appeared every few hundred meters, with homes, jetties and small cafes clustered between them, jutting out over the water. Plenty of people had already gathered along the bridge, as flames were ignited below and cannons were set off in random succession. The most impressive

attraction though was the roar of sound that followed each shot. Ripping through the night like magnified cracks of thunder in a cloudless sky, we could only imagine the force of blows our ears would face the following evening when the official festival took place. The next day and it was show time. Heading to one of the main pier areas where we were told to join the floating stage, we arrived to see thousands of people crushing themselves as close to the water’s edge as possible, pushing into each other for a better look at the cannons and squeezing around each other across thin bridges that connected platforms and viewing spaces. As the smell of kretek cigarettes and burnt carbide filled the air, it became obvious just how big an event this was for the city. With closed eyes it would have been easy to believe we had been transported to a

war zone. Being fired in sporadic bursts, each wooden cannon shook the roots of anything close by and breached the air with a sound that sent shock waves through your system. Had actual ammunition been shot from the barrels, the festival probably would have entered the Guinness Book of Records for causing the most fatalities at a family event since the Roman amphitheatres lost their spark, and would have wiped out the entire town in its first year. Fortunately for onlookers though there was no projectile, just a huge flame that burst forth from the muzzle and lit up the night with an impressive flash. Before we had a chance to join our rock crew, word had gotten out that I was writing a story and we were unexpectedly invited to join the city mayor, the minister for tourism and the festival manager in their private viewing area. Wearing my black

feature skull T-shirt and jeans for the night suddenly seemed like a bad idea, but before long we were getting the full run down on why the festival takes place, about the founding of Pontianak and how the land was claimed with the use of some well revered cannons. Back in 1771, a sultan by the name of Syarif Abdurahman sailed into the area with a fleet of ships in order to find a new place to settle. Having found the Kapuas River, following its coastal path eventually led him to an area he believed suitable to build. While moored though, nighttime brought with it a plague of supernatural disturbances and unnatural sounds that scared both the children and the workers. Evil ghosts known as ‘pontianaks’ lurked in the area. Famous for preying on children, these savage demonic beings were believed to originate from both the souls of women who died giving birth and babies lost through miscarriage.Beyond dealing with these nightmarish appearances, pirates also began threatening the crew and were known to make use of a nearby area for hiding out and attacking ships.

feature Believing he could kill two birds with one stone, Sultan Syarif decided to fire into the dangerously occupied area, thus raining his vengeance down for a night of retribution. By morning the sounds of horror had ceased, the spirits fleeing along with any pirates and leaving the land safe for resettlement. On that day, the 23rd of October, the sultan named the city to be Pontianak. Fitting indeed. Before we could go into any more details, the eighth and current sultan Sy Abdurrahman Al Qadrie arrived and after a privileged introduction (with me feeling even more underdressed!) we were shuffled off to join the musicians on the floating stage. This was by far the best seat in the house, sailing along with the main show as huge speaker stacks balanced precariously on

either side of us. Rock bands thrashed out everything from Metallica to local pop favorites and young dancers moved through traditional Malay influenced routines. Cannons continued to be set off and fireworks exploded across the sky above us at every angle. As waves of people filled the shoreline to sing along with the bands, boats also filled up the space between us and the shore, rocking under the weight of excited spectators who gave it their best shot to dance without toppling into the water. With enough noise, lights and commotion being generated to keep the entire city awake and entertained, there was no doubt in my mind that even the most ferocious of ghosts would have fled to quieter waters had they still remained in Pontianak.

After lighting one of the cannons myself I was pretty sure my own soul had been blasted back a few lives to say the least. The entire night was far different to any I had experienced in other parts of Indonesia and certainly stood Pontianak out as a city with a story to tell, whether you happen to believe in stories of scaring away ghosts or not. With satisfied smiles and ringing ears, we headed back to our hotel. It had been a long night of entertainment and despite the cannons, fortunately there were still a few spirits left behind the bar‌ Photos Aruel Photography and Memeth Memo. Boshe Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai no. 89x Tuban – Kuta Tel. 8235508

Tosca gets a sneak preview of the relaxed dining style and great food at huge new venue, Boshe… all before the Grand Opening has even taken place! Lucky girl…

P

ulling up outside the enormous Boshe on Kuta’s Bypass Ngurah Rai, I feel almost a little intimidated. It’s not the sheer size of the place, or even the enormous eagle logo swooping above the entrance, talons outstretched; it’s more the fact that this place states that it’s for “VVIP”s. Am I a very very important person? Am I underdressed?! The answers are ‘No’ and ‘Yes, probably’ – but no matter, because the staff here, in their smart, military-style uniforms, are so friendly and super-professional, my fears are instantly allayed. It seems everyone is given the red carpet treatment here; everyone, is a “VVIP”.

082 | beatmag.com

Boshe provides an all-round entertainment experience. From the huge nightclub with its ultraimpressive and ear-splittingly loud sound system, to the international DJs, top models, 26 private karaoke rooms and lounge, there certainly is a lot on offer. We are shown to the lounge, through a sophisticated reception area, and seated in big comfy sofas. This style of seating covers the lounge area, which, in keeping with Boshe style, is also huge, modern, light and airy, with plenty of cooling AC and floor to ceiling windows. Contemporary wall features and mirrors decorate the room in a stylish and minimalistic fashion, with atmospheric

lighting features at the end of the room, where a billiards table is also being put to use. The bar area provides the focal point of the room and free WiFi is also available. The Grand Opening of the Lounge will take place over two days on the 12th and 13th November, followed by the Opening for the rest of the venue, including the finalized karaoke rooms and club on the 19th November. The Lounge is open from 12pm-1am daily, but the main happenings at the Opening are taking place between 12pm and 7pm, including live music and a choice of anything from the menu for free – you heard me – for free (excluding the Beef/ Pork Ribs)!

of Boshe’s most-ordered dishes so far, cooked up by former Hard Rock chef, Pak Herman. Balinese Pak Herman not only worked in Bali’s Hard Rock, but in Singapore’s also, along with other hotels in both Jakarta and Surabaya. We start with a crisp and tasty, well-dressed Boshe House Salad (40K). The Seafood Fettucini (45K) was up next, which contained crunchy peppers and shaved parmesan to complement the light pasta and seafood taste. Pak Herman cooks up a gorgeous home-made BBQ glaze, which we got to try on the Pork Ribs (105K). Served with coleslaw and fries, the succulent meat literally fell away from the bone, Boshe are aiming and all we needed was a napkin to wipe the BBQ for a relaxed dining glaze smile from our chops afterwards. A range style, therefore all of pizza is also available; we sampled a slice of food is served within the American Favorite (60K), which was heaped the Lounge area. The with the trademark American mass of toppings. To menu is an eclectic end the banquet sweetly, we opted for a gigantic one, serving a range of Western and Indonesian Banana Split (35K), which was as impressive going dishes, and, contrary to what you might think, down as it was on its way to the table. the food is very reasonably priced. The drinks list is, in a word, impressive. Just about every soft Boshe only began operating in August this year, and alcoholic drink you can think of (with the and is an impressive venue. Size wise it has exception, bizarrely enough, of Diet Coke), is become the biggest club in Bali, and its older sister served, along with a never-ending list of House in Jogjakarta is the 2nd largest club in East Java. If Cocktails, ‘Kickers’, ‘Knock-outs’ and Shooters. you haven’t already had the pleasure, put a VVIP These drinks are where you’ll need a little extra date in your diary for the Grand Opening. We’ll weight in your wallet. Take for instance the see you there. cocktail we tried, the ‘Big Boss’; 275K is what it will cost you, but, on a brighter note, this thing is HUGE - made from over twenty different fruit and drink items, apparently - and it will blow your head off! So, if you’re anything like me, this one drink will last you all night long and you’ll still leave more than reasonably merry, 275K seems more reasonable when you think of it this way. One sip of a Big Boss, and we need some alcohol absorption and fast, so we set about ordering some food. Pretty soon, our table is covered with a feast beatmag.com | 083

I

n his second exhibition at Ganesha Gallery, South Sumatran artist Heriawan Siauw has largely turned to abstract studies of pure emotion. Dominated by shades of blue and green with occasional splashes of red for contrast, his moody yet thought provoking images could be considered the visual equivalent to soulful jazz music played afterhours in a smokey café. Heri’s exploration into hues of blue transcend that of the shades of the ocean, and somehow connect to our emotional links with hope and fear. Siauw’s work can be seen as quite daring, especially in a culture where the colors of joy and prosperity are more often symbolized by the color red. Date Venue Tel Email Web

“Blood of the Darkness”

T

o welcome in the horror themed celebrations of Halloween, Sector has prepared a unique performance combining a salsa party with the body art works of Polenk Rediasa and a live opera performance. “Blood of the Darkness”, which is written and directed by Grace Jeanie, tells the darkened love story of Count Dracula (performed by Satrio Welang). The tale of the damnation of Count Dracula, whose loss of true love and cursing of the holy cross cause him to roam the earth as a blood thirsty demon, is retold in this stage show, reminiscent of the ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ movie from 1992. Like the movie, this theatrical play also shows the passionate side of Count Dracula as he searches for his eternal love. Date : October 28 Venue : Sector Bar & Restaurant Jl. The World is My Stage

Born : Cimahi , 14 October 1976 Contact : hendrautay@yahoo.com

Conceptual Basics

Hendra bases the concepts of his art on tapping into the voice of the universe. Believing in the limitless understanding of expressionism, this can be achieved through the movement of the human body or more precisely, theatrical performance. Stating that words tend to become misleading and problematic, his choice of medium to convey his message is unique. The boundaries of nationality, culture or religion in Hendra’s eyes are all universal and can easily be perceived no matter what someone’s background is.

98 | | beatmag.com 098

stage experience

Hendra began performing in a drama series for local TV station TVRI Bali in the early 90’s while also participating in many theatre acts with Sanggar Posti from ’92 to ’97. His talents on stage led him to become a representative for Bali in the play ‘Racun Tembakau’ by Anton Chekov in Jakarta back in 2005. Apart from his stage performances, Hendra is also an acclaimed poet with several of his poems being featured in a poetry anthology of 21 Balinese poets, titled ‘Keranda Emas’.

KEMANG

FISH & CHIPS SHOP

K

emang is an area in Jakarta where there are a lot of things going on at once. You have your boutiques, specialty shops, beauty salons, cafes, clubs, and of course, restaurants. But I always have a fond memory of this one particular place. I remember going to Kemang Fish & Chips Shop when I was a young boy with my late father. It was in this tiny eatery that my father introduced me to a simple dish called “Fish and Chips”. He told me that it was one of his favorite meals during his travels abroad.Located at Jalan Kemang I, Kemang Fish & Chips Shop has been around since the mid‘90s. It was then owned by a British expatriate, but about 2 years ago, a local gentleman by the name of Rahadi Arsyad took over. Rahadi spent most of his childhood in Sydney, where he too grew fond

Kemang Fish & Chips Shop Jl. Kemang I No. 3 Jakarta Selatan Phone: (021) 719-6884

of this simple dish. With his experience working at 5-star hotels in Jakarta and Bali, he runs this place as a ‘labor of love’. I don’t think it has changed much since the ‘90s. When somebody says ‘lack of ambience’, another says ‘decidedly simple’. The color blue dominates the room and there are only a handful of tables inside this small restaurant. On a recent lunch visit with a friend, I saw just a couple of small parties of diners and the place looked full. From their conversations, I

could tell that they were long time fans of this establishment. I also saw a good number of people ordering take outs for lunch. And despite the small staff, I can see that they do deliveries as well. Now about the food. Rahadi told me that the premium quality dory fish are specially imported from Vietnam. But the one thing that I personally love about their fish and chips, is that the potatoes are hand-cut and fried to perfection. No frozen supermarket French fries here! The fish and chips come in three sizes: ‘Admiral Feast’ (48K), ‘Captain’s Meal’ (38K), and for the little ones, ‘Sailor’s Bite’ (28K). As well as the speciality dish, they also have an Aussie-style Burger (35K), a delicious twist to a traditional hamburger, topped with beetroot and

egg. And in keeping with the Australian theme, their Meat Pie (35K) is also gaining popularity among the customers. To cool off, go for the fresh juices (15K). You can choose between Guava, Strawberry, or Star fruit. But, should you feel like indulging a little bit, try their Milk Shakes (16K) or Thick Shakes (20K). Strawberry, Chocolate, or Vanilla, all full of goodness… I remember sitting in this small but warm eatery with my father years ago, where he told me unique stories about his overseas travels. And how a simple man like him could forget his (very Indonesian) craving for rice for just a little while, with a simple, tasty meal like fish and chips. Thanks, Dad. I’m having this one in honor of you! Budi iskandar
