think one of the main things 2010 for which will be remembered is the way the Internet truly came of age and snatched control of the basics of communication like news, promotion and commentary from a privileged few and gave it to the masses. Information is now available everywhere, and people are now more connected than ever - in the virtual world at least. The downside of all this indoor connectivity is that it seems people aren’t communicating in the real world as much. It can’t be denied that numbers were down across the board in the bars of Bali this year, even with record numbers of arrivals. Not long ago people had to go out to meet other people, which was the basis of the entertainment business, but now it appears people can sit in front of the computer screen, socializing and meeting as many people as they ever did before without moving an inch out of the house. In an ever changing world, right now it all seems to be changing faster than ever and the rules of the game appear to have all changed with it. Kinda weird but challenging and exciting at the same time. Another star of this year was the weather. I’m not sure of the statistics but it seemed to rain more this year than any other in living history and the dry and wet seasons were turned upside down. They say the La Niña effect will be with us until April 2011, but I guess nobody even knows for sure what that actually means – wet or dry – so we’ll just have to wait and see. Another major effect this year was Ramadan falling on August 11, which gave us a rather schizophrenic August, and probably the quietest high season on record. The bad news is that Ramadan falls on August 1 in 2011 so we’d imagine the next high season is going to be even stranger again. Thankfully, there were high points during this year too. The plethora of international bands, DJs and performers coming to town was unprecedented. The variety of new venues and restaurants opening up all over Bali was also staggering. With the right town planning and organization, Bali could be heading for a very strong future with record numbers of visitors and people moving to the island to live. However, if the town planning continues in the same mode as the past few years there is a chance that we are all going to be swallowed up by the fumes and chaos of one massive grid-lock on the traffic front… And that surely wouldn’t be good for anyone. We’d like to wish all our friends, readers and advertisers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Prosperous New Year. Please send contributions, letters, etc to editor@beatmag.com The opinions expressed in any article or advertisement are those of the writer or advertiser and not necessarily those of the Beat. Denpasar Festival 2010
The Denpasar Festival has returned once again this year, and is set to bring more people to the heart of Bali. This year’s festival has adopted “Buana Citra Kara” as its theme in order to celebrate creativity and performance. The event will run from the 28th of December until the end of the year featuring culinary, floral and agriculture displays within the festival lineup of events. If you’re a culture vulture the Denpasar Festival is the place for you as plenty of traditional Balinese dance and art will be featured this year. To bring in the younger crowd several local bands will also get the chance to take to the stage. Kawasan Gajahmada Heritage is the chosen location for the Denpasar Festival 2010 and is sure to be a great end of year celebration.

Other prizes up for grabs are Rp100M in prize money and a return ticket to Nagoya, Japan. Bali Airport Arrival Hall Expansion
3 020 | beatmag.com
The managers of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, PT Angkasa Pura I (API), are currently in the process of expanding the Visa-on-Arrival hall. A larger arrival hall is said to hopefully be in operation before the end of December 2010. The larger arrival hall is expected to help reduce bottlenecks for waiting visitors which tend to occur when several planes arrive within a close time proximity. The peak hours when lines are said to be at their worst occur between 2 pm and 5 pm when arrivals from Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Australia converge on Bali’s sole air gateway. In addition to a larger arrival hall passengers will also be given free mineral water and amplified music to reduce the stress of waiting in line, but the question of whether more immigration officers will be added remains unclear.

Deejay Club Gets Bigger
Regulars to all night party hot spot Deejay Club in Kartika Plaza will have noticed that the club area has expanded somewhat from before. The once standard sized area has now expanded to fit in more relentless late night partygoers. Another new addition to Deejay Club, apart from its area expansion is the new CDJ-2000 mixer, which is the first of its kind to reach the shores of Bali (besides Donni One’s of course). With the new mixer, all DJs who get behind the decks can enhance their musical prowess with this new state of the art sound equipment.

Junior Jack & Kid Crème Hu’u Sat 25 Dec 11PM
Sound Like House Hail From Belgium
have Been Acclaimed producer and DJ Vito Lucente has been releasing records under many different names but his best known moniker is without a doubt Junior Jack. Vito caught the house music virus in the early 90’s and soon started to record tracks under different names including Kafé (‘Can You See It’), Hugh K (‘Shine On’) and Mr. Jack (‘Only House Music’). Around the same time he launched his own label Noisetraxx to which DJs and producers like Roger Sanchez, Mouse T, Erick Morillo and Robbie Rivera contributed their remixing skills. His first recorded success under the name of Junior Jack was with the single “My Feeling” on PIAS recordings in 2000 which entered all the national charts in Europe, the US and Australia. Kid Crème aka Nicolas Scaravilli is a man on a mission. To deliver quality house music through his productions and DJ sets around the world. He is a perfectionist who will happily delay the release of one of his own records if the bass needs tweaking or the vocals aren’t sitting perfectly in the mix once he has road-tested the track on one of the many quality sound systems around the world on which he and DJ partner Junior Jack play. are Now The duo of Junior Jack & Kid Crème are both successful in their own right - clearly seen in the success of both artist’s solo albums - but are even more powerful when both their skills come together behind the decks. Be sure not to miss their performance when they perform at hu’u on Christmas night.

Hail From UK
Has Been Like many of us, it was his parent’s record collection that switched James Lavelle on to music, getting the musical buzz through the likes of Stevie Wonder and Deep Purple. A DJ known for his Hip Hop beats, James is also label owner for Mo’Wax, named after the event ‘Mo’Wax Please’ that he once promoted at Bar Rumbawa in his early DJ career. Mo’ Wax has taken the Lavelle musical approach of ‘anything goes eclecticism’ to even greater heights with the release in 1996 of DJ Shadow’s seminal ‘Entroducing’, a record that turned music on its head and catapulted Mo’ Wax into the spotlight. In between playing records, James has found time to produce guitar band South, and provide the soundtrack for Jonathan Glaser’s acclaimed movie ‘Sexy Beast’ which threw him in at the deep end but gave James the chance to rediscover his DIY approach to music. is Now With success in the European club scene, (especially the UK) James Lavelle has prepared to bring his Mo’Wax Hip Hop style beats to the rest of the world. One of the places that will host this UK performer is SOS. James will be performing on the 5th of January, check beatmag.com for more details.

Michael Franti & Bali
Such a harmonious Union The Beat has a quick chat with Michael Franti
American composer, singer, film maker, poet, and all round great entertainer with an honourable message, Michael Franti is a regular visitor to Bali and is on his way here again. Like most of us on Bali it seems that he arrived one day and has since been drawn back repeatedly to the island. Is that the way it happened with you, Michael? Did you arrive here one day and just think to yourself, wow, this place is for me? Yes. That’s almost exactly how it occurred. I have been to many beautiful places in the world and the second I got off the plane I could see and smell the beauty of Bali. It wasn’t until a few hours later when I met my first Balinese person that I knew this was a place I would always be returning to. We haven’t seen much of you this year. Where have you
070 | beatmag.com
been and what have you been doing? For the past 10 months, I’ve been on tour in America. We have a new album that came out in September called “The Sound Of Sunshine” and now I have a break for most of December and part of January to spend in Bali before we go back home and make a video and start rehearsals for an international tour. You always seem to be in Bali at this time of year, is there a reason for that? The main reason is that it’s the one time of the year
onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. onthemic. ont
I’m certain to not be touring. I live in San Francisco where it’s very cold in December and January, so I do whatever I can to escape, because being barefoot for 10 years, I much prefer hot weather! Where do you live while here, exactly, Ubud or Seminyak? And why? Do you have some kind of affinity with that area in particular? You seem like a bit of an Ubud kinda guy, but I could be wrong. I live in Ubud at the Stay Human Retreat, which is a place that we’ve been building for the past two years. It’s a place where people can come to stay a night or a weekend or to bring a retreat of people to practice yoga in our rooftop yoga studio. I like Ubud because it’s a little less touristic than the beach areas and it’s easy to take a scooter and be in the country in a matter of minutes. So, you will be back in Bali again this New Year’s Eve with a benefit show for Bumi Sehat Natural Birthing Clinic and the Environmental Bamboo Foundation. What can you tell us about those organizations and why should we all be getting behind them? Bumi Sehat is a natural birthing clinic that provides free services to pregnant women and their families. They believe that bringing a baby into the world in a peaceful way is one of the keys to bringing about peace on the planet. The Bamboo Foundation is dedicated to teaching about the sustainable use of bamboo for all types of building. They also work to protect bamboo forests, which fight erosion and keep the fresh water shed high to prevent deserts being formed where there was once old growth forests.
Michael is generously donating his time to make this fundraiser a success and we’re sure it will be one hellova great show (as all of Michael’s shows are). A Michael Franti show isn’t exactly a sit back, relax and listen to the show gig, but one that gets all the audience involved and even at times all huggin’ each other. For people who have seen him and his very talented band in concert you will know what I’m saying and those who haven’t, you should get along just for the experience while you have this New Year’s opportunity. And at the same time help a very worthy cause.
Michael Franti’s NYE will be held at Pachoran Retreat, Ubud on Friday 31 Dec. www.stayhumannow.com for more details.

SARAH FORBES (Surfer Girl GM) Hi: It would have to be one of those fabulous snorkel day at Candidasa. Lo: Definitely when I realized I hated my job in China.
RIRI DJALIL (Dejavu GM)
It
was definitely an up and down rollercoaster ride of a year again for most people in town. One of the positives was the amount of international acts coming to Bali. Plenty of punters arrived too, breaking all previous records at the airport. Hotels were jammed and restaurants packed, but what was the problem? Something wasn’t right. Maybe too much competition. Maybe the weird weather. Maybe too many budget travelers arriving... They could have been factors, but it seemed that through the year things just weren’t that rosy for some until right at the end when it all appeared to loosen up a tad. Ahhh, 2010 will go down for things like The Beat 10th Anniversary Party being a bit of a dud, most big shows going down like lead balloons, less crowds at Kudeta parties (which actually made them better, anyway) and a huge bunch of new venues that only promoted themselves on Facebook…. Hallelujah! Yes, all those international acts arriving to our shores like Living End, Ian Brown and Temper Trap helped to keep the life in the party, but the question begs, were there more young people spending more time in front of computer screens than getting crazy down the local watering hole than ever? Most probably yes, and maybe that was the biggest problem of all. Here’s how some people around town saw the Hi’s and Lo’s of the past year 2010. (Excuse the pillaging of FB profile pics)

I know maybe it’s because the uneducated locals treat them like kings and queens, but we can’t just do nothing about this. It’s getting to the point where locals need to do something and put some dignity and respect on this island. The way I see it, Bali/Kuta is lucky to have tourists coming over, but the tourists are way more lucky to be able to come here, therefore they have to respect Bali. The international Chef
What do you do here in Bali?
Currently I am the Executive Chef & General Manager for hu’u bar in Seminyak Bali.
Do you see that as a dream job?
In my eyes no matter what “job” you do you have to love it. I love people, food, hospitality, service, nightlife, and Bali so I don’t really see it as a job.
Give us a short history lesson of how you got to be in this job.
Straight out of chef’s school I worked all over the world including Asia and then back to The States. Left for abroad again to Kuala Lumpur, over to Jakarta, then to Singapore, now here in Bali. Education was a big factor early on. I have always considered my diplomas from school important and have treated them like a passport because they have given me the opportunity to travel extensively and work almost anywhere in the world.
Out of all the places in the world, why Bali?
I like this particular region of the world. As a Chef the ingredients that Bali offers along with the vast resources in the country of Indonesia are like a playground.

What’s a little secret you keep to yourself that you don’t mind the world knowing about?
You are only as strong as your weakest link. It’s no secret actually the reason for any persons success and that’s the people he or she is surrounded by. I’m blessed and fortunate enough to work with some of the best, most talented, dedicated, professional, creative, hard working, committed people on the island. From my managers, to my administrative team, to my kitchen staff, dishwashers, all my bartenders, security team, gardeners, engineers, drivers, supervisors, so on and so forth. rriving in Changi Airport, travellers to Singapore are suddenly bombarded by an assortment of advertisements either offering the latest gadgets or the most fancy activities, which on my trip there at the time was a ride on the Singapore Flyer, Asia’s equivalent to the London Eye, with a complementary glass of champagne. Something I wouldn’t spend half an hour doing, nor waste my hard earned cash on, (unless was in the mood for a splurge that is) but I’m here to talk about budget travelling. Even before you check into customs, travellers can peruse the many stores, fast food joints and duty free shops there, which in my opinion made the airport feel more like a mall than an arrival hall. The only thing that made it feel like an airport was the smile-less faces of the customs officers, which seems to be par for the course wherever you may be going. When all permits to enter Singapore have been approved, I’d advise people to go to the MRT station and get yourselves an Ez-Link card, as

feature malls. There is an exception to this rule though, if you happen to be in Singapore during the Christmas season, Orchard road is a must see. The malls are all wonderfully decorated in lights both inside and out. Just remember to keep your wallet safe from temptation. As a regular visitor to Singapore, I wanted to see what Singaporeans do on the weekends and so always ask around in my broken Mandarin. The Chinese Gardens are always highly recommended. You’ll find it situated several MRT stops before Joo Khun and it’s commonly used by locals as a recreational park and for starry-eyed lovers as a romantic place to avoid prying eyes. The main show stealer is the seven-tiered pagoda and the
this will be your lifeline to catch any train or bus in the city. The MRT is the best way to travel around Singapore, unless you get stuck in the afternoon rush hour, then you’re in for a tight squeeze. Also remember always to top up the card every day, because you don’t want to be keeping up a queue of impatient Singaporeans ready to board the train because you ran out of credit. It’s an embarrassing feeling and I speak from experience. Accommodation isn’t difficult to come by, with budget hotels and hostels scattered all around the city, you’d be one very unlucky traveller to not get a room, but it’s always better to plan ahead and book online. A good area I would suggest to those seeking cheap digs would be around Geylang or Chinatown as you’ll be close to an MRT station as well as the cheapest hawker stalls around. Best avoid fast food joints and stick to these hawker stalls; they’re all clean, sound, and dish out delicacies from all over the South East Asian region. One thing I would suggest people to try is the traditional Singaporean breakfast. I won’t go into detail what it is but it’s a must try. If you’re still in the mood for a little shopping, Chinatown and Bugis Street are the places to go. Get the cheapest deals on the trendiest threads they have to offer. A word of warning, if anyone invites you to go to the Mustafa Center to check out a 24hour mall, just say no! If you’re a true budget traveller you’ll know to stay away from

Japanese garden housing many bonsai trees. It really is a great place to escape the bustle of city living. No wonder the locals keep it a secret. Singapore may be South East Asia’s shopping hot spot, but budget travellers need not avoid it. If you’re willing to plan ahead and spend wisely, Singapore can actually offer more to a budget traveller than one may think. I went to Singapore with only Sg$200 in my pocket for the weekend and came home with a little under Sg$100 left, and a memory card full of pictures plus a few trinkets for mates back home. Twitter 5 Pre-Sale Tickets, Like it or not, you have to agree with the power of Twitter—or social networks, at least. Look what happened with Maroon 5. They are scheduled to play in Jakarta on April 27, 2011. Java Musikindo, the promoter, started promoting the concert a month ago and opened the sale of pre-sale tickets on Sunday, Dec 5 (note: Although the information about the pre-sale tickets was only published on Twitter and a few big banner ads, the 6000 tickets were sold out in less than 10 hours!
& The Power of Twitter
Jakarta on Feb 8. Their pre sale tickets were sold for one day on Nov 27, a few months before the gig. Although no proper data is published as to how many tickets were sold, if we look from the Twitter time line obviously the Deftones concert has created a lot of hype on that web platform.
A similar thing happened a few months earlier, Java Musikindo sold pre-sale tickets for Pitbull, and 4,400 of them sold out in less than 24 hours. As with Maroon 5, Java Musikindo only promoted the pre-sale tickets via Twitter, and it worked really well. Who would’ve thought that Pitbull would get that awesome response from the public?
Earlier in October, JavaRockin’Land already proved how effective this Twitter marketing can be. By creating its own account which people can follow and know what’s going on minute by minute with JavaRockin’Land (e.g. Smashing Pumpkins confirmed to play? When are the pre-sale tickets on sale?). The gig itself ended up a massive success. Almost 50,000 people came to witness the biggest rock concert in South East Asia. Maybe not all because of Twitter, but there’s no doubt that Twitter played a major role here.
Java Musikindo is also using this strategy for the upcoming Deftones gig, scheduled to play in

DOMESTIC GRO OVE C e l e b ’s C h o s e n S e v e n What music are you into at the moment? Well, I think I’m pretty eclectic with my music taste but pretty much loyal to my favourite artists. Since high school I’ve been influenced by punk rock, ska and reggae. I’m still very much into them till now. But at the mo’ jazz instrumentals, especially guitar instrumentals is what I’m into right now. Soothes the mind some what. The likes of Joe Pass, Tal Farlow. Great guitarists. What was the first record you bought— any interesting story about it? I think my very first album that I ever bought was a punk compilation called Punk-ORama by Epitaph Records. And I think I stole 15 bucks from my dad’s wallet to buy it. I still have the cd, but it’s all scratched up. What is your all-time favourite album? Why? So far, Rx Bandits - The Resignation. I love this album. Their music’s energetic. I’m also energetic. I could play it whenever. It has messages in the lyrics and perspectives that I could relate to. It keeps me grounded in a city like Jakarta. What was the worst record you ever purchased? Burger King compilation... Exactly. I think my mind was controlled at that time by some capitalist device that Burger King was working on, whilst ordering my meal... I was 13. Hahaha...

Tried sky diving last year, and I pissed my pants doing it. Best 45 seconds of my life. I guess that would be pretty wicked doing it every day. What album do you choose to start your weekend? Depends on what type of a weekend I’m having. If it’s a biking one, usually complimented with a bit of punk. Suicidal Tendencies - Freedumb; a good jolt to the heart. And album you choose to end your weekend with? I would listen to Elvis Costello - North, a good album to reminisce on things.

Santana Guitar Heaven
Arcade Fire The Suburbs
The guitar legend of many decades compiled a list of classic rock tracks for this album, reviving popular songs from the 1960s to 1990s with the help from some friends. Working with India Arie, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Scott Stapp of Creed, Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, Chris Daughtry, Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Rob Thomas, Joe Cocker and rapper Nas, Santana has brought together some great talent for some of the best tracks over rock history. It’s an interesting concept and well executed. If you’re a fan these songs might win your heart, but if you want to hear Santana’s undiluted skills, we suggest you switch on to another CD of his excellence.
Compared to their previous album Neon bible, The Canadian post punk act Arcade Fire’s new album feels a little more toned down. It’s not the big fast sound like before, but casually relies on simple riffs, lazy bass lines, calm piano, and deep-haunting vocals. ‘City With No Children’ is the album’s most charming song, borrowing the spirits of Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and The Smiths altogether in a 3 minute long dark lullaby. ‘Month of May’ carries a big dose of punk rock, Ramones-esque side to The Suburbs. Vocalist Win Butler seems to direct the album as a tale of suburban children with deeper enunciation, bitter aphorism of life and memory, sung and recorded to charmingly disturb your comfortable mind.

Ayam Taliwang - Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara) If you’ve ever traveled east to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara you will definitely have seen many places offering a local delicacy called Ayam Taliwang. This dish can be considered as one of Lombok’s main dishes, with its humble beginnings in the village of Kampung Karang Taliwang (where the dish got its name). It is said that a man named H. Murad and his wife created the original recipe, which became an instant hit with people in the village and eventually spread throughout Lombok. Ayam Taliwang itself is grilled chicken coated with a special marinate and always eaten with a very spicy sambal on the side. Ayam Taliwang can be found all over Bali. 126 | beatmag.com

Cocoon Recently established Cocoon Beach Club has brought a little touch of the Med to happening Double Six Beach, causing quite a stir amongst residents and visitors alike. Dan Ashcroft stopped by to see what all the buzz is about...
128 | beatmag.com
What exactly is it that defines a beach club? Is it the food? The proximity to the beach? The bright, breezy and laid-back atmosphere? If it’s a combination of all of those things, then Cocoon certainly ticks all the right boxes. Strolling up the sweeping steps to the reception area one hot Seminyak afternoon I’m immediately struck by the open, white interior and relaxed cool ambience. Chill-out tunes spill lazily from the speakers as the friendly and efficient wait staff escort me over to a table on the lower floor of the splitlevel premises. Cocoon has been purposely designed so that wherever you choose to park yourself - be it inside or poolside - you can’t help but take in the dazzling white sands and deep blue of the Indian Ocean whilst grazing away the afternoon. There are dedicated menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner depending on what time of the day you stop by. Being mid afternoon I’m up for something a little lighter, and check out the ever-evolving grazing menu. Chef Stephen Moore has created an incredible mix of Mediterranean style dishes - all perfect for sharing with a few friends or family. To kick things off I order a cold drink and the grilled flatbread with homemade dips (Rp45k/each) - in this case mixed marinated olives, marinated goat’s cheese, babaganoush and chickpea puree. It would be easy to snack on this all day but I manage to reign in the temptation and leave some room for the next serving of cauliflower, goat’s curd and wild rocket salad (Rp 75k). Scattered with pomegranate seeds and a few splashes of balsamic on a long serving dish it’s a delicious mix of flavours and textures. Next up comes the tuna tartare with poached quail eggs and wonton crackers (Rp 75k), the soft tuna combining perfectly with the crunchy crackers. Last up I go for a touch of local sweet with the salad of fresh lychee (Rp 75k) topped off with crunchy merangue pieces and fresh orange sorbet. Cocoon is a fantastic place to hang out at any time of the day, with families, individuals and party animals alike well catered for. Be sure to check out Cocoon Beach Club this coming Christmas and New Year’s Eve, where they offer a wonderful Christmas Lunch (990k++) and on NYE a magical night of transformation, the entire beach club will be transformed into a tantalizing dreamscape boudoir of burlesque and piquant frivolity - Degustation Menu 1.3++ plus other general admission options available.

WHOSE CANVAS IS THIS ?
Farid Stevy Asta Born : Gunungkidul, 20 Oktober 1982
Concept
Farid always inserts a message within his works of art, commonly related to matters of social importance. An example of his message bearing masterpieces is the piece titled ‘Decadance’ which is meant as a critique on the world of television, which in Farid’s eyes has become a negative pleasure for many, especially the younger generation. Seeing how sex and violence radiates from many of the shows, even in the informative news shows it seems violence heads the main topic. That is why in Decadance Farid uses the image of a television in a horrific form, depicting the negative aspects of this form of media.

His first solo exhibition was in 2008 at Magelang and was titled ‘Dynamic Duos’. Farid not only uses the canvas to express his artistic side, but also his voice. G-Five is formed by a group of five Balinese artists who have left their homeland of Gianyar to create works of art in Yogyakarta. Each artist within the group creates works of art that expands within the realm of contemporary art. The unique development of the different works of art created by each member of the group is their tenacity to experiment within two dimension images as well as three dimensions and be able to express a certain message within their pieces. In general the pieces of art created intensely explore different mediums to present an esthetical value, even though the message they wish to convey leans towards metaphorical descriptions of the case in hand. They continue to explore different ways to express their interpretations regarding certain themes or matters close to them and represent these matters in a visual manner with each artists own twist.

Burn, Stab, and Get Big!
Ve Handojo is a screenplay writer and the TBJ film critic.
Take a journey with these three blockbusters to get where you want to be! Be it playing with fire to clear your name of murder, cutting a few throats to get your dream home, or maybe dicing with death in the Bermuda Triangle... Solve the crime, chill your bones, and travel with a smile at www.blitzmegaplex.com!
The Girl Who Played with Fire Crime, Thriller. Director: Daniel Alfredson. Writer: Jonas Frykberg. Cast: Noomi Rapace, Michael Nyqvist, Lena Endre. The girl with the dragon tattoo (a.k.a Lisbeth Salander played by Noomi Rapace) is back, now to fight fire with fire. If you are a fan of Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Trilogy books and their first movie adaptation and sequel, you should be quite anxious to see this second sequel. Well, as the director for this one is different from the first sequel, be prepared to forget your expectations. The first sequel might have gripped us with its Agatha Christie like mystery atmosphere, but this second sequel is more likely to thrill with its crime action scenes and disclosure of Lisbeth’s family and past secrets. Be patient, after playing with fire in the last sequel, the girl will be back to kick the hornet’s nest in January 2011!
Dream Home Drama, Slasher. Writer & Director: Ho-Cheung Pang. Cast: Josie Ho, Anthony Wong Chau-Sang, and Michelle Ye.

For every gore and slasher fan out there, this acclaimed Asian ‘bloodiest’ film from Hong Kong is something you surely do not want to miss! The story is simple and engaging in its plotline of how far a middle-class Cantonese working woman will go to get her dream luxurious apartment with a view to the bay - even if means killing her would-be neighbors. Macau casino tycoon billionaire, Stanley Ho’s daughter, Josie Ho (winner of Best Actress for “Dream Home” at the Sitges Film Festival) plays a believable role of a sadist murderer/fragile driven woman. The combination of sympathizing drama and bone-chilling thrill ride will definitely make you shrink in your seat, so prepare for a blood bath on the screen!
Gulliver’s Travels Adventure, Comedy. Director: Rob Letterman. Writer: Nicholas Stoller, Joe Stillman. Cast: Jack Black, Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Amanda Peet. Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black, The School of Rock) adalah seorang petugas administrasi biasa di sebuah kantor majalah.
The poster itself shows a man getting tied up by a bunch of tiny people, and gives us an idea of how hilarious this movie will be; the Jack Black kind of hilarious! The story tells of how Gulliver gets assigned to cover a story on the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, but ends up stranded on the island of Liliput where he is a giant to the people of its kingdom. How the story ends isn’t what matters here; to see every scene with Black as a giant harrased by tiny people will surely crack a smile. With other hot players like Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada), and Amanda Peet (Something’s Gotta Give), this movie is sure to tower over everything else this month!
