The purpose of the United Nations as a peacekeeper of the world has lost its significance. The evil designs of people who insist others for war is more evident. However, our nation under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi stood against the war by keeping neutral stand. Our Prime Minister promptly spoke to both the leaders of Russia & Ukraine to adopt the path of discussion.

viuh ckr International Women's Day was celebrated across the nation on 08th March, 2022 with the theme `Break the Bias`. I am happy that the National Headquarters celebrated the event on digital platform with our youth. Some of the speakers highlighted the multiple roles of women in different spheres of life. Indian tradition glorified women stating, “Where women are honoured, the deities stay pleased there.” The Bharat Scouts and Guides encourages equal participation from girls and boys which itself breaks the bias. Youth should develop right attitude towards girls and women, and this can be put in practice by giving them equal opportunities to express their opinion.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides has been organising Yoga daily and Zumba on every Sunday in virtual mode.Physical exercises should form part of our daily routine as suggested by our founder.

The ongoing war between Ukraine-Russia calls to maintain International Peace & to put an end to human and environmental catastrophe. It is time to apply creative thinking to establish peace in the affected region. Our future generations should get the message of peace and they should say `no` to wars. Today plastic is damaging the earth. The Bharat Scouts and Guides has been organising a number of activities under the `Tide Turners Plastic Challenge` to fight plastic pollution. I appreciate the state associations for designing various activities to protect and preserve our Earth for future generations. World Earth Day is going to be celebrated next month. Green future is a prosperous future. It is everyone`s responsibility to preserve and protect our health, our families and our livelihood. I look forward to seeinga plan of various activities from all the states on the theme `Invest in Our Planet`.

lEiknd dh dye ls I had an opportunity to visit Raipur, Chhattisgarh and witnessed District Organising Commissioners Meet for Membership Growth and Online Registration. I also joined the APR Foundation’s Donors Appreciation and MAIC College Rover Crew and Ranger Team Annual Award Ceremony which was really amazing. During the above visit I was introduced to Mr. Prem Prakash Sharma, C.E.O., Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh who is a Rashtrapti Scout and Trained Scoutmaster also. Proud to have such Joint Collector rank official as State Commissioner of Scouts of Chhattisgarh State Bharat Scouts and Guides. We request all the District and State officials of the Bharat Scouts and Guides to find out such officials in their areas and have their contact details so that we can take their help for the development of the movement in the country. The members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides across the nation celebrated International Women’s Day on 08th March, 2022 with the theme #BreakTheBias. Various programme and competition on the theme were organised virtually and physically to mark the significance of the day.

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS 10TH ASIA-PACIFIC REGIONAL SCOUT YOUTH FORUM For the first time in the history of Asia Pacific Region, 29 NSOs participated in the 10th Asia Pacific Regional Scout Youth Forum held from 09th to 13th February 2022. 20 young people from BSG represented the Bharat Scouts and Guides India as one delegation from the National Headquarters, New Delhi with full enthusiasm, devotion and dedication to keep the name of BSG high. Mr. Amar B. Chettri, Joint Director of Scouts (Programme and Training). Mr. Madhusudan Avala, former Dy. International Commissioner and Dr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director, The Bharat Scouts and Guides. Congratulated all the participants for their active participation in 10th Asia Pacific Scout Youth Forum. Mr. Supreeth Balaji won the election of Regional Youth Representative.
DUTY TO OTHERS - A GOOD TURN BY DR. VAISHALI AND DR. ANSHUL ROHILA The famous saying in Scouting–Once a Scouts/Guides is always a Scouts/Guides. This was proven by Drs Vaishali Rohilla (Daughter of our Leader Trainer Shri Naresh Rohilla of Bhiwani),who had been a Guide during her school days and Dr Anshul Rohilla. On 8th March 2022 my Daughter Reema Thakur suffering from an acute pain of Appendicitis and she was admitted to hospital and doctor suggested for immediate surgery . Fortunately I was also at NHQs New Delhi and reached the hospital to see my daughter. When I came to know that the daughter of Naresh Rohilla is a doctor at Delhi hospital I contacted her at 11 PM and she at once reached the hospital with Dr Anshul Rohilla despite the fact that she was to appear for the exam at the very next day. The whole night they both were running here and there to get the various test done so that timely surgery may be conducted, with their untiring efforts my daughter was operated successfully . My heartiest thanks and gratitude to both the doctors for the GOOD TURN they did (L. S. Verma ) towards me and my daughter. State Training Commissioner (Scouts) Haryana

NATIONAL EVENTS NATIONAL INTEGRATION CAMP The Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Headquarters organised National Integration Camp at National Youth Complex, Gadpuri, Haryana from 19th to 23rd February, 2022 to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the theme “Ek Bharat - Shresth Bharat:”. 289 participants & staff from 15 State Associations participated in the camp. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director, Bharat Scouts and Guides on 19th February, 2022. Shri S.K. Biswas, State Commissioner of Scouts, West Bengal State BSG was also present during the inaugural ceremony. During the event competitions like- Patriotic Song, Folk Song, Folk Dance, State Exposition, Festival of India, Marriage of India, Food Plaza and State Exhibition were conducted. During the event, Founder’s Day/ Thinking Day was also observed on 22nd February, 2022 by garlanding the statues of Lord & Lady Baden Powell and paid tribute to the founder of Scout Movement. Thinking day fund was collected. Dr. Brahma Deep Sandhu, Chief Medical Officer, Palwal was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function. Shri S.K. Biswas, Chief Commissioner of Scouts, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Dr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director, Bharat Scouts and Guides and other officials of the NHQ were also present on the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the winning units of the competitions. The event was conducted under the leadership of Shri Amar B. Chettri, Joint Director of Scouts (Programme & Training), BSG, NHQ. GOLDEN ARROW AWARD CEREMONY FOR CUBS/BULBULS The Golden Arrow Award Ceremony for Cubs and Bulbuls for 2021 was held on 22.02.2022 at the Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Youth Complex, Gadpuri, Haryana. Keeping in view Omicron variant of Corona virus, for this year,. Cub Masters and Flock Leaders of the eligible states were invited to receive the awards on the behalf of Cubs and Bulbuls. The representatives from 12 states

received the awards. The awards were distributed by Shri S. K. Biswas, Chief Commissioner of Scouts. Shri Alok Goel, National Treasurer, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Dr. Brahma Deep Sandhu, Chief Medical Officer, Palwal, Dr. A. K. Yadav, Senior Medical Officer, Palwal, Dr. Surendra Arya, Block Medical Officer, Palwal, Dr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director, Bharat Scouts and Guides were also present. FELICITATION CEREMONY OF FRIENDS OF BSG Felicitation Ceremony of Friends of the Bharat Scouts and Guides was held at National Youth Complex of the Bharat Scouts and Guides on World Thinking Day i.e. 22.02.2022. Members were felicitated by Dr. Brahma Deep Sandhu, Chief Medical Officer, Palwal, Shri Shyamal Kumar Biswas, Chief Commissioner of Scouts and Shri Alok Goel, National Treasurer. Dr. Raj Kumar Kaushik, Director and Ms. Darshana Pawaskar, Joint Director of Guides, Bharat Scouts and Guides were present on the occasion. This year Mr. Shital Agrawal & Mrs. Poonam Agrawal were felicitated as BSG Chancellor. Two Platinum, 7 Gold, 12 Silver and 42 Bronze Members were felicitated on the occasion. WEBINAR 3 OF WOSM INITIATIVES The webinar on “Scouts Go Solar” as a part of the series of WOSM Initiatives was organized at the national level on 1st March 2022 on Zoom and telecasted live on YouTube channel of The Bharat Scouts and Guides. The hosts of the event, Ms. Priyanka R and Mr. Vedadri Sai, introduced the webinar which began with the BSG Prayer song. Mr.Analendra Sharma, Assistant Director - North Eastern Region delivered the Welcome Address on behalf of the NHQ to the esteemed guests and resource speakers of the event. Shri Kali Prasad Mishra - Vice President BSG India and the State Chief Commissioner, Odisha BSG was the Chief Guest. Heencouraged the youth of the webinar to initiate action for a better world. Shri Rajkumar Kaushik, Director, BSGoutlined the nature of the series of webinars on WOSM Initiatives. The resource person for the event, Mr. Bernz De Leon - National Programme Commissioner for Community Base Scouting, Boy Scouts of Philippines, engaged the participants in an interactive

manner to communicate information about the Scouts Go Solar Initiative. The objectives/goals and its role in furthering the SDGs was the starting point and moved further with information about various levels of Scouts Go Solar. Activities, games, roadshows, exhibitions and developments in the initiative were communicated with the participants to create awareness about the initiative. The reference material for the same were shared with the participants which served as a starting point for creating awareness. Few videos on the efforts undertaken on Scouts Go Solar from across the world were shared to motivate the attendees and viewers. The Executive Director, Shri Krishnaswamy R, encouraged the youth to take action by providing glimpses of Scouts Go Solar in Hindi for creating a wider reach and to inspire them to take more actions. The event came to a close with Vote of Thanks presented by Ms. Ayantika Kundu - former Co-Chairperson, National Youth Committee BSG, who expressed her gratitude on behalf of the NHQ, to the guests, resource speakers, the participants and the organizing team. The webinar ended with National Anthem. NATIONAL LEVEL SERIES OF WEBINAR ON "UPSKILLING OUR NATION'S YOUNG WORKFORCE" The national level series of webinar on "Upskilling our nation's young workforce" organised by the National Headquarters – New Delhi on every Wednesday from 4 p.m.to 6:00 p.m starting from 8th December 2021 through Zoom Cloud Meeting & YouTube Channel of BSG-India has completed 15 episodestill 16th March 2022. 09th Webinar of the Series was delivered by Mr. D. Poornachandran, LT© & District Secretary, Maharishi District, Tamilnadu State BSG on the topic “Proficiency Badges – Computer Awareness” on 02nd February 2022. 10th Webinar dealt with “Cyber Security & Safety” by resource Speaker Mr. Rony Das, Security Engineer, Researcher – Assam on 09th February 2022. 11th Webinar was conducted on the Topic “Proficiency Badge – Healthy Man & Health” where session was delivered by resource speaker Mr. K. PLASTIC TIDE TURNER PROJECT EASTERN RAILWAY Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g. plastic bottles, bags and micro beads) in the Earth's environment that adversely affect humans, wildlife and their habitats. Plastics that act as pollutants are categorized by size into micro-, meso-, or macro debris. Plastics are inexpensive and durable making them very adaptable for different uses; as a result humans produce a lot of plastic. However, the chemical structure of most plastics renders them resistant to many natural processes of degradation and as a result they are slow to degrade. Together, these two factors allow large quantities of plastic to enter the environment as mismanaged waste to persist in the ecosystem. On the eve of World Day of Social Justice celebrated on 20th February,2022, our Officers’ Colony Group of ERBSG under Kanchrapara District Association took a vow to launch a plastic cleanliness drive, near the Kanchrapara Station area, watching the current situation of filthy atmosphere lying here and there with 31 scouts, rovers and rangers. We cleaned plastic bags and wastes thrown every where followed by a poster rally depicting to stop the use of plastic all around. Ashort nukkad natak or street drama portraying the challenges faced by animals for the overuse of plastic in daily life was presented. KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA SANGATHAN To improve the living standards of the community and to make Earth a clean, green and plastic free planet, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Alirajpur Enclave organized a Plastic Awareness Rally, aiming to provide factual information about the types of plastic pollution and harmful effect of plastic waste.The participants of the rally suggested changes that will have an immediate impact on our environment and change it for the better. During the drive students interacted with the shopkeepers, customers and others about hazardous effects of plastic and distributed paper &cloth bags to the shopkeepers. Students also organized a rally and the rally was flagged off by In-charge Principal of Say No to Plastic the school wherein the students headed off to the nearby society and vociferated slogans `‘Say No To Plastic and Save Earth;`If you can’t Reuse it then Refuse it, Don’t be Drastic,.`and along with the posters, NUKKAD NATAK to

Ms. Amelia Swer, Former International Commissioner (G), BSG, India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and also inaugurated the Exhibition. She also shared words of wisdom and encouraged the participants to create awareness to reduce, recycle and reuse of plastic waste. NORTHEAST FRONTIER RAILWAY To commemorate “75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav”, the members of Bharat Scouts and Guides, North East Frontier Railway, Tinsukia District Association organized an Awareness Campaign on Single-Use Plastic on 15-02-2022 at Hijuguri Railway Colony. The members collected the Single Use Plastics and disposed it off at a suitable place. They also visited door to door & educated people about the disadvantages of Single Use Plastic. SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY South Eastern Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides, Chakradharpur District organised Plastic Tide Turner Champion (Hero Level) in two phases. First phase was organized on 18thFebruary, 2022. Many activities like- Pledge to make Plastic Free Nation by Guides & Rangers, Face Painting on- Say No to Plastic, Cleaning Program and Guides Entry Level Course were organised. Road Show& Rally on Plastic Awareness, Door to Door Campaign, convincing shopkeeper not to use Plastic, clean the Buton Lake etc. activities were organised in second phase on 20thFeb 2022. 20 members participated in this programme.

NATIONAL ADVENTURE INSTITUTE, SNOW VIEW, KURSEONG, WEST BENGAL The 17TH National Adventure Programme was conducted at National Adventure Institute, Snow View Kurseong, Darjeeling from 21th to 25th February, 2022 in which 88 participants attended from Bihar, Eastern Railway, Rajasthan and Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi Uttar Pardesh. During the programme, participants visited different places like HMI Darjeeling – There they did activities such as Obstacles Crossings, visited a zoo and historical museum which describes the life of a mountaineer and their belongings who made history. Trek to Eagle Crag, Dow Hill forest. In camp site rifle shooting, archery and back woodsman cooking was conducted for the participants, and different types of games for their self development. They all enjoy the day and were happy to explore their knowledge. On 22nd February, 2022 “World Thinking Day” was celebrated by the participants and staff of NAI, Kurseong in the presence of Shri Jogendra Prasad, State Commissioner ©, West Bengal. Smt. Surekha Shrivastava Dy. Director and Shri Jogendra Prasad, gave the small introduction about the Lord Baden Powell and Lady Baden Powell also the story how they meet each other. Lyngdow. Ms. Darshana Pawaskar, Jt. Director of Guides (programme and Training) graced the occasion motivated the youth to create a Smart Digital India. The Team Members of BSG-DSG handled all the sessions very effectively under the guidance of the Project Coordinator Ms. Madhu Shree K S, Project Coordinator, BSG - Digital Smart Generation, Surf Smart 2.0, NHQ. The programme was well-conducted by Ms. Ankita Pandey of N F Railway. Very dynamic Team Members of BSG-DSG - Pratham Nag, N.F.Railway, Vedadri Sai K, Andhra Pradesh, Nobin Kumar Bairagi, West Bengal, Ankita Pandey, N. F. Railway, Lakshmipathy R, Karnataka, Neharika Puri, Jammu & Kashmir, Saranraj V, Tamilnadu & Ritika Sharma, Jammu & Kashmir delivered the various sessions of the webinar like DISCOVER activity, CONNECT activity, PROTECT activity, RESPECT activity&IMAGINE activity etc. The webinars have been conducted under the leadership of Shri Analendra Sarma, Assistant Director, and NER-BSG. About 100+ members have participated from the regional states through Zoom.
NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE, PACHMARHI The Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Training Centre, Pachmarhi has organised four specialised courses from 28th January to 01st February 2022 i.e. Signalling Course, Pioneering Course, Mapping cum Star Gazing Course and First-Aid Course. The participation in the courses were 18, 30, 28 and 20 respectively from Central Railway, Eastern Railway, E. C. Railway, Maharashtra, N. F. Railway, Bihar, S.E.C. Railway, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Northern Railway, N. W. Railway and Uttar Pradesh states. The courses were organised as per the syllabus of Scheme of Training. Apart from the input sessions daily, in the second half practical sessions were taken-up, in all the four courses. The participants took active part as they are running the units effectively. Besides this, the activities for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav were also organised. Grand camp fire was organised on 31.01.2022 at 07:00 P.M. where Mr. Amar B. Chettri, Joint Director (Scouts) was the Chief Guest. Participants presented colourful programmes during the camp fire. The Chief Guest presented motivational speech which inspired the participants. On the last day, participants had All Faiths Prayer meeting in the morning. After the completion of the open session and lowering the flag followed by National Anthem, the courses came to an end. The Courses were conducted by Mr. Krishnaswamy R., Executive Director, Ms. M. N. Machamma, DDGLT, Mr. Subhash Chandra Behera, W/QM, Mr. Sunil Patel, Computer Operator. Mr.Shubhanshu K. NATIONAL ADVENTURE INSTITUTE PACHMARHI The National Adventure Institute Pachmarhi has conducted three specialized National Adventure Programmes for the Chhattisgarh state Bharat Scouts and Guides from 22nd to 26th February,2022, 02nd Camp from 27th February to 03rd March,2022 and 03rd Camp from 3rd to 07th March,2022. The 444th and 445th regularNational Adventure Programmeswere held from 22nd to 07th February, 2022 and from 03rd to 09th March, 2022. There were 530 participants from Chhattisgarh state and 11 participants from Uttar Pradesh state in the two regular NAPs. During the programme, activities such as Rappling, Rock Climbing, Valley Crossing, Obstacles Crossing, Sky Cycling, Valley Crossing, Zip Line, Rifle Shooting, Archery, Horse Riding and Boating. All the participants enjoyed the trekking to Jatashankar, Rajendra Giri, Pandav Caves, Bee Fall, Sangaum Mahadev &Chauragarh. U-Report session was also organized during the programme. As is the practice the candidates collected polythene bags from Bee Fall under the Swachh Bharat Sunder Bharat Abhiyaan. While returning from Bee Fall with the polythene, on the way till Raj Bhawan area, they collected the polythene.Shri Nitin Tale, SDM,Pipariya and CEO, SADA,Pachmarhi, Shri S.K.Bembey,Sub Eng.SADA Pachmarhi, Shri Rajesh Diwan, A.S.SADA interacted with the participants and praised their services.Sh. TRAINER’S CORNER ELEMENTS OF SCOUTING : B) SCOUTING … FOR YOUNG PEOPLE We are aware of the fact that Scouting is an educational movement for young people. Scouting provides a concrete programme to the young people from childhood to adulthood. Scouting offers progressive scheme of activities to help them to develop the competencies, values and attitudes needed for active citizenship. Competencies include skills, behaviours, knowledge and abilities. Though Scouting is for young people and a movement of young people, young people need the support of adults in their activities. It does not mean that the movement is managed by adults. Young people learn to work in partnership with adults to share their experience. All the young people can enjoy Scouting irrespective of age, gender, race, religion, identity, capabilities, experience or background. Scouting contributes to their empowerment. If young people spend more time in Scouting, the achieve their potentials. Even though it is a movement for young people, it has limitations of age. Originally the programme was started from the age of 5+ years to 25 years of age all over the world in three sections. Different countries named the sections differently just as cubs are called Beavers. As far as The Bharat Scouts and Guides is concerned, in connection with the International Year of the Child- 1979, The Bharat Scouts and Guides started the scouting from the age of 3 years as Bunny section when the children attend Pre-school stage or Balavatika and they pass through different stages of Cub, Scout and Rover as they grow and they cease to be Rovers before completion of 25 years. So, much of the adolescent period is covered to train the youth in Scouting activities. Scouting observes age range because Scout Method can be used with young people who are at a developmentally appropriate level. For example, Cub Promise and Scout Promise or Cub Law and Scout Law are carefully worded taking age range factor into consideration. Young people at that age will show interest to learn new things, and their inquisitiveness and creativity are high. They can remember well. Memory is sharp and they have lot of energy They believe in what the leader say i.e a `make-believe` tendency and their emotions are at controllable level. They learn to work in small groups to build unity and family atmosphere. At young age, they develop the characteristics of responsibility, self-reliance, self-confidence and readiness. That is why the Patrol System works effectively to train them in leadership.

Young people can be moulded easily. The Founder was of the opinion that character building should have its foundation from childhood stage. It is not appropriate to apply the youth programme beyond the years of adolescence. Youth like to work in groups and to live in groups. So, they exercise the leadership in small groups. Scout Method provides the opportunity to develop the ability to make their own decisions and reach a higher stage of autonomy, leading from dependence when they are Cubs, through independence when they are scouts and to interdependence when they are rovers. Hence Scouting is offered to young people, so that the experience they gain till they become adults will benefit them as individuals and benefit the community and the country at large. In other words, it is a movement for young people. They need the support of unit leaders and other adult leaders in their activities. In conclusion, it is contextual to quote what the Founder said in his last message to the scouts, “One step towards happiness is to make yourself healthy and strong while you are a boy, so that you can be useful and so you can enjoy life when you are a man….. stick to your Scout Promise always even after you have ceased to be a boy.” Note: In order to develop human resources, Scouting was introduced for Children in the age group of 3 to 6 years as Bunny Scheme (combined for boys and girls) during the time of Mrs. Lakshmi Mazumdar, Former National Commissioner. - D. INDIAN SCOUT/GUIDE FELLOWSHIP A webinar was organised covering practical steps to reduce cancer risk on the occasion of World Cancer Day on 04th February, 2022. Action to be taken to reduce cancer risk was elaborated through a series of presentations and discussions with Dr.V.P. Gangadharan, one of the best oncologists in India. Topics covered included Eating for health; Radon; Skin Protection; Breastfeeding; know the signs, find cancer early. On 22nd February,2022 Cure Violence Medical Guild celebrated the World Thinking Day with children and old age group. Ritesh Bhattacharya Da ZSM of Haldiram, Nagpur provided a beautiful cake and Babita Sengupta provided snacks. Guild members Raksha Parpani, Toshima Dahariya & Sameera Rathore participated in the successful conduct of this programme. On the occasion of ‘International Mother Language Day, celebrations were held in the local public School in Lakshmidevipalli Mandal, Indira Nagar Colony on 21st February, 2022.
