Rambling Thoughts I'm sitting back after a thunder storm, watching the sun dry everything back up. This is the weather of Western PA that we are so used to. July was a really great month to be out and about. Erie Bike Week and Roar on the Shore bring a great amount of talent and entertainment to the Northwestern PA. area. All over the area there are bike runs every weekend and a bike night semi local to everyone on any given night. This has been a great summer. We are now offering prints for sale from some of the events that we cover. The files will be posted and you can order them right off the site. At this time I am happy with the site except for the shipping charges. The prints are very reasonably priced and this will help cover the costs of our travels. We also will be having a stronger presence at a lot of the events. On August 2nd we had 10,000 hits on our Facebook page and we had one post alone get over 7,000 hits. If you have any events coming up, please let us know. We post any non-profit events and happenings for free. We are read by more people than any printed motorcycle magazine covering Western Pennsylvania. We have had several issues viewed by over 14,000 people. Riding for the Cure On a beautiful Western Pa. Day the Rockann Haven was the starting point for the annual Riding for the Cure Motorcycle Run. The great weather helped in getting a turnout of 390 motorcycles with most of the bikes having passengers. They made stops at The Beer Garden, The Millerstown Tavern, The County Line, The Bonfire, The Belmont II, and then followed up with a pig roast for almost 700 people at The Longhorn Corral. Music was provided by The Pulse. $44,000 was raised from this event with this money going to patient care fund accounts to help them with whatever they need, such as medicine, co-pays, gas cards to get to treatments and much more! They also get hair donated to use and get hair halos made for those who lost there hair from chemo. Over 200 hair halos, hats and scarves have been made so far. Butler Health Systems Foundation and the Richard Laube Cancer Center in Kittanning will received the money they donate.

Thunder in the Burg Thunder in the Burg. Trophies, dancing, bands, corn hole and even a bull, let alone a lot of bull. That was the scene at the 11th Thunder in the Burg in Downtown West Pittsburg. Once again, Lawrence County A.B.A.T.E. put on a great show, had some fine vendors and non-stop music. The bands were Thick as Thieves, Sleeping Dogz and Terrachain Sky. As always, parking is free and admission is free. This was a great day to be out with some friends.

Thunder in the Burg

4 Counties 4 the Kids Saturday August 8th brought the sounds of thunder to the Mustang bar in the small community of Mercer, PA. Edward and Earl Michaels, who co-own the bar hosted the first of hopefully many to come Fun Run as a benefit for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Erie. The event, coordinated by the Mustangs event planner Kathleen Frye, attracted about 200 motorcycles and raised over $9000 to help the hospital's need for a EOS imaging x-ray machine. The EOS 3-D imaging system scans a child standing up, and shows the child's natural weight-bearing posture and allows them to see the interaction between the joints and the rest of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, hips, and legs. EOS imaging uses an ultra-low dose of radiation to provide extremely detailed, high-quality images. It uses a significantly lower radiation dose than a general radiography X-ray. With EOS scans, they can make more informed diagnoses and create individualized treatment plans for children with musculoskeletal disorders. The Fun Run started at 11 AM and traveled 126 miles in Mercer, Crawford, Venango and Butler counties making it 4 counties 4 the kids . Stops included Nates, Casey s, Otto s, West Sunbury Legion and returned to The Mustang. At the Mustang riders were treated to a pig roast and entertainment by Nickel Plated Revolver. Kathleen along with Carl and Edward did a great job of promoting this event but could not have done everything without all of the other people involved, including the Mercer Ladies Auxiliary, the East End Fire Department and all of the Shriners that came out. Also, a special thank you to all the police and first responders along the way that helped to make it a safe, enjoyable run.

Syria Motor Corps Poker Sunday July 9th brought the annual Syria Motor Corps Poker Run. A beautiful morning brought out a great crowd, This is a police-escorted ride that started with coffee and donuts in the morning. After a well-organized run, the riders were greeted back at the Syria Shrine Center to some good food and a lot of fun. There was a special musical appearance by Gerald McGrew who is also known as Pittsburgh s Piano Man. There was also a show set up by the Allegheny Mountain Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America with members from the Tri-State area. This run was one of two that we covered this month with the proceeds going to the Shriners Hospitals. We cover a lot of non-profit and charity events and organizations, but this group of guys who dedicate their time, energy, and money to raising as much money as they do for children is just incredible. Shriners Hospitals treat children with no out of pocket costs. These are hospitals staffed with some of the world's best doctors, people who want to make a difference in the world, who want to help children without insurance companies getting in the way by determining what is and isn t going to be covered. Although the hospitals do bill insurance companies if their patients have insurance, they don t charge any bills beyond what insurance will cover, regardless of actual costs of treatment, and accept patients with no consideration of race, religion, or relationship to the organization. These are hospitals that PCPs and other doctors send children to for the best treatment available, staffed with the best doctors available.

Syria Motor Corps Poker

Dakota I m originally from Youngstown, Ohio but I currently reside in Lumberton, Texas. I ve been modeling now for 3 years now. I have been published in a couple magazines, my next goal is to make modeling a full time career. I want this more than I ve wanted anything and I m going to see how far I can go! Some of my favorite shoots are those that are outdoors, especially in the water. Some of my hobbies are pretty much anything outdoors; hiking, snowboarding, archery, camping, cliff jumping, swimming. I absolutely love being in the water! I love to read! My favorite kind of books are fiction. If I need to escape reality, I like to sit on my front porch and get lost in a good book. Vacations are temporary, but you can always have a book. I enjoy working out. I know, weird right? How can someone enjoy working out? Well that s just my personality I suppose. I never used to like it. I stated working out when I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I was 15 years old. I was on all kinds of different medications to try and manage my symptoms. Being the person that I am I hate taking medication and having to rely on a pill, that s when I started working out. It was the one thing that helped manage the pain caused my fibromyalgia. Along with working out, I keep a strict diet. I love to put color on my plate. I also do MMA. I started taking classes in 2015. If you know me, you d know I m not a coordinated person for sports and yet I somehow managed to be good at it! I ve recently got to travel quite a bit in the last year. I got to see the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Crater Lake in Oregon, the Redwoods Nation Forest in California, Yellowstone in Wyoming, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota and so much more! Being seniors, after almost eleven hours on the road, they were too tired to continue and decided to take a room. But, they only planned to sleep for four hours and then get back on the road. When they checked out four hours later, the desk clerk handed them a bill for $350.00. The man explodes and demands to know why the charge is so high. He told the clerk although it's a nice hotel; the rooms certainly aren't worth $350.00 for four hours. Then the clerk tells him that $350.00 is the standard rate'. He insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appears, listens to him, and then explains that the hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference center that were available for us to use. "But we didn't use them," the husband said. "Well, they are here, and you could have," explained the Manager. The Manager went on to explain that the couple could also have taken in one of the shows for which the hotel is famous. "We have the best entertainers from New York , Hollywood , and Las Vegas perform here," the Manager says. "But we didn't go to any of those shows," the husband said. "Well, we have them, and you could have," the Manager replied. No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, the husband replied, "But we didn't use it!" The Manager is unmoved, and eventually the husband gave up and agreed to pay. As he didn't have the check book, he asked his wife to write the check. She did and gave it to the Manager. The Manager is surprised when he looks at the check. "But ma'am, this is made out for only $50.00." "That's correct. I charged you $300.00 for sleeping with me," she replied. "But I didn't!" exclaims the Manager. "Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have."

Erie BikeFest 2017 Erie Harley Davidson at 3712 West 12th Street in Erie, Pa is Erie s Official Bike Week Headquarters. It is impossible to get a true count on the number of people that attended but it was definitely in the tens of thousands that stopped by the dealership for eight days of motorcycle fun. Highlights included, but were not limited to; daily guided rides throughout the tri-state area; live entertainment by 15 bands which included local, regional, and national bands such as: SourMash, East Coast Turnaround, Geneva, Satisfaction, Land of Ozz; International Master Bike Builders Association (IMBBA) Bike Show; regional and national motorcycle industry vendors at vendor Village; 2nd annual First Responders Appreciation Parade with co-grand marshals Sean Scully from Discovery Channel's 'Harley and the Davidsons' mini series and Millcreek Township supervisor John Groh; tattoo contest; and two people won new 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycles! Roar on the Shore 2017 Roar on the shore 2016 brought on record numbers this year, with some of the best entertainment. Starting on Wednesday, July 12th with the Fallen Riders Memorial Run in the afternoon and finishing up the day with Jackyl in concert on the Main Stage. On Thursday, I arrived in time for the Bringin in the Roar Parade. There was a great turnout, with people lined up along the street on both sides. I had the great honor to see Danny Trejo who was the Grand Marshal. There was a great opportunity to visit the many vendors and observe all the bikes at the downtown event before Molly Hatchet took the stage for the night. As always they put on a great show with their southern style of rock. Friday is non stop with plenty of rides including the ever popular Thunder on the Isle: The Mayors Ride. They had a large crowd for the ride, and lunch before. The streets were packed with bikes and parking for the cages was hard to find. It was another fun night of hanging out downtown talking to vendors and watching the bikes. They ended the night with an outstanding performance by Great White on the main stage.

POLICE MOTORCYCLE SKILLS

FOR CIVILIAN RIDERS Advanced motorcycle skill courses include the same training exercises used by police motor officers and motorcycle rodeo competitors. Classes are conducted in a relaxed, low-stress environment by highly-qualified instructors. All classes are time in the saddle riding. No boring lectures in a classroom. Women s classes and group discounts are available. Precision and Control Course (4 hours) This is a challenging half-day class that will give riders an intimate knowledge of their bikes capabilities. Riders will learn simple techniques that will help them master their rides, and develop ultimate control over their bikes. This course will focus on slow speed and confined space maneuvers with real-life application. Advanced Rider Course (8 hours) This is a full day class for the rider that wants it all. The class will provide defensive riding, slow-speed control and confined space maneuvering skills. Learn and practice techniques that will polish your crash avoidance skills, reinforce proper emergency braking, swerving and rear-end collision avoidance. This course will teach you how to handle your bike with precision and ease, and enhance your overall road safety.
