Rambling Thoughts August is the last official month of the summer with cooler weather coming, school starting and there will be fewer and fewer events coming up on then weekends. This was a great summer for western Pa. The temperatures stayed moderate and we had many weekends that had perfect weather. This summer brought the MOTOAMERICA to Western Pa, with hopefully many more years to follow and we had two really great shows here in August, The Readers Ride-in Bike Show by Cafe Racer magazine and the Brews Bands and Bikes in Mercer. A lot of new bikes will be hitting the floors for the 2018 season, so fall and winter will be a great time to check them all out. Stop on in while the dealers have a little more time. I do have rides listed into October and then all of the dealers will be starting holiday events. Fall also brings a lot of other activities that will occupy the masses like football, hunting seasons and some of the best fishing of the year. Predictions are for a mild winter this year, so maybe we can keep the bikes out. On August 2nd we had 10,000 hits on our Facebook page and we had one post alone get over 7,000 hits. If you have any events coming up, please let us know. We post any non-profit events and happenings for free. We are read by more people than any printed motorcycle magazine covering Western Pennsylvania. We have had several issues viewed by over 14,000 people. Annual Memorial Ride The Saeler-Solkovy Annual Memorial Ride held on August 19th was once again a huge success. They put a ton of work into this event turning it consistently into one of the best runs in Western Pa. Everything started at The Beer Garden where there is ample room to handle more bikes then you could ever dream of along with all the support tents. Stops included Runt s Roadhouse, Vin and Joe s, St. Cloud and Otto s. Entertainment for the night was provided by The Shiners. Every year they pick a new charity to donate the funds from this event. This year the proceeds went to the following police and fire departments, to help offset the expense of new radio systems required for 2018. They have so graciously supported us and ensured our rides were safe and ran smooth throughout the years. It was our turn to give back . The departments involved are Lick Hill VFD, Oneda Valley VFD, East Butler VFD, Mercer Road VFD, Butler City Police, Butler Twp. Police Butler County Sheriff and Penn Township Police

Lawrence County Stand Down Stand Up For Homeless Vets Motorcycle Run
The blues sky smiled upon August 6, 2017 for Lawrence County Stand Down s first motorcycle run. This very successful event was held out of Cascade Park and raised over 11,000 for Lawrence County Stand Down. This run had over 200 bikes out supporting a worthy cause and even more importantly they were able to spread the word about the work that they do. Lawrence County Stand Down's mission is to promote public awareness throughout the community about homeless veterans, and provide services to help them and give them a hand up. Many people were involved both directly and behind the scenes. To point out just a few that were involved, New Castle Police Department, LCCAP's SSVF and a great many other volunteers all shared their time, efforts, and information. This event was so successful; volunteer s pledged their time and effort for next year already Great job! The 3rd Annual Colbee Regis Lovich Memorial Ride August 12th was a great day to be out and ride. The 3rd Annual Colbee Regis Lovich Memorial Ride was a huge success and a great place to start that ride. This ride started at the American Legion Lyndora Post 778 and stopped at the Bon Fire in Leechburg, then the Hot Spot in Kittanning, up to the Millerstown in Chicora then back to Butler at the Legion Post on Main Street ending up back at the American Legion in Lyndora. There was a DJ followed up by Rustic Revelation. This benefit ride is in memory of Colbee Regis Lovich, who passed away September 15, 2014. Colbee was a spirited 4½ year old boy who loved attending his second year of preschool as well as helping others. He was an organ donor who continues to give to others, with all the proceeds going to The Colbee Regis Lovich Scholarship Fund & Children s Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA.

Ride For Kids On August 6th, 2017 more than 300 motorcycles gathered at Seneca Valley High School to show their support for local children and their families in the Western Pennsylvania Ride for Kids. This ride raised more than $37,800 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation - far exceeding their goal for 2017. Riders completed a scenic route through the community before reconvening at the school. Following the ride, Eternal Star Ryan Cenk was honored as the top fundraiser. Ryan was a dedicated and passionate volunteer for the ride and loved attending these events. He raised $5,630 before passing away a few months ago, and his team, Be Kind Like Ryan, raised $20,810 in his memory. During the event, his father Bill Cenk spoke and thanked everyone on Ryan s behalf. Donations for the Western Pennsylvania Ride for Kids are still being accepted online at www.rideforkids.org/westpenn. Special thanks to event emcee Jack Cohen and task force leaders Laura Ebbert and Jennifer Sizemore for their work on this year s event. Sarah I am a Registered Nurse and a Promotional Model. In my free time when I am not working I love to go biking, fishing, hiking and riding my motorcycle. I love being out in nature and seeing new sites! I am very passionate about traveling and have been to Europe twice, visiting various countries while I was abroad. I have been known to spontaneously decide to travel to different states for a weekend. My ultimate goal in life is to get paid to travel, whether that is through nursing or modeling or possibly even another route. I like doing creative photo shoots that are unique and fun to shoot! Humor to relieve relieve Humor to stress At The Adoption Agency A husband and wife who work for the circus goes to an adoption agency. Social workers there raise doubts about their suitability. The couple produces photos of their 50-foot motor home, which is clean and well maintained and equipped with a beautiful nursery. The social workers raise concerns about the education a child would receive while in the couple's care. "We've arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child all the usual subjects along with French, Mandarin, and computer skills." Then the social workers express concern about a child being raised in a circus environment. "Our nanny is a certified expert in pediatric care, welfare, and diet," the circus couple explained. The social workers are finally satisfied. They ask, "What age child are you hoping to adopt?" "It doesn't really matter, as long the kid fits in the cannon.
A guy at the Psychiatrist A guy went to a psychiatrist because he was having severe problems with his sex life. The psychiatrist asked him a lot of questions, but he couldn't get a clear picture of the problems. Finally he asked, "Do you ever watch your girlfriend's face while you're having sex?" "Well, yes, I did once." "And how did she look?" "Oh boy, she looked very angry!" At this point the psychiatrist felt that he was really getting somewhere. The American Veterans Traveling Tribute Photos on this page Kelly Montag Kramlich Wednesday a gathering of 1030 motorcycles, three helicopters, and a line up of police and fire vehicles met at the Victory Family Church in Cranberry Township, Pa. to escort a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial from Cranberry Township to Butler Township. The Butler County American Legion Riders, who frequently do escorts for members of the military returning home from overseas and for the remains of soldiers that are being returned for burial did a great job of organizing this event. The American Veterans Traveling Tribute is a 360-foot long and nearly 8-foot high replica of The Vietnam Monument that is located in the National Mall near the Capitol and Washington Monument. On it are the names of the 58,000 men and women who gave their lives while serving in Vietnam. A special thank you to Kelly Montag Kramlich and Frank Rickman Jr for the enclosed photos.

Café Racer Magazine Readers Ride-in Bike Show August 12th, brought the 10th biggest and best Readers Ride-in Bike Show that the staff of Café Racer magazine have staged
to date. The annual custom bike show invites the magazine s readers to compete for bragging rights for Best Custom Café Racer motorcycle. The event took place at Sewickley s War Memorial Park on Blackburn Road, with awards in cash and prizes for handbuilt streetbikes in six different categories. Both professional and amateur motorcycle builders competed from across the U.S. and Canada for a combined $500 for Best In Show and People s Choice awards plus prizes which include new motorcycle leathers, tires, tool kits and more. On Friday, Rebel Yell Bourbon sponsored a Cocktail Party at The Slippery Mermaid restaurant and tiki bar, located at 613 Beaver Street in Sewickley, followed by Two Wheels on Two Reels, a screening of the British Mods and Rockers film Quadrophenia at the Tull Family Theater, located at 418 Walnut Street in Sewickley, at 9:30 p.m. Saturday s Readers Ride-In Custom Bike Show, sponsored by Rebel Yell Bourbon and Royal Enfield Motorcycles, was a full day with new Honda, Triumph and Royal Enfield motorcycles, as well as food trucks, prize giveaways, A special, day-long café racer film festival featuring classic British biker flicks, and the country s largest custom café racer show. With free car and motorcycle parking, and admission was just $5 per person, $10 for bike show entries this is a day well spent.

FOR CIVILIAN RIDERS Advanced motorcycle skill courses include the same training exercises used by police motor officers and motorcycle rodeo competitors. Classes are conducted in a relaxed, low-stress environment by highly-qualified instructors. All classes are time in the saddle riding. No boring lectures in a classroom. Brews Bands and Bikes August brings two of my favorite bike shows in the Western PA. area. August 5th was the third annual Brews, Bands and Bikes and then on August 12th there was the Readers Ride-in Bike Show put on by Cafe Racer Magazine. The Brews, Bands and Brews is held on the diamond of Mercer in front of the historic Mercer Courthouse. Tom Banks brought his 1912 Harleys that I was told is one of the oldest original Harley that there is in existence. We even had a chance to watch him fire it up. The show included many great bikes from the older ones to bikes that are ridden on the daily basis. Ben Brown was there with his 1915 Harley-Davidson Bandito that he has competed in the Motorcycle Cannonball being a finalist in 2016. This is a competition that runs for 15 days and travels 3,304 miles from Atlantic City, New Jersey to Carlsbad, California. The crowd was entertained with music from Memphis Cradle, Bishop Road and the Rodgers Montgomery Blues Band. Topping things off were the fine list of Craft Beers and also Wine Slushies from the Webb Winery. This is a show that I am already looking forward to seeing next year.

Beaver County Radio Almost 200 people participated in the annual Run For McGuire A Special Ride For Special People on Sunday August 6, 2017. Early estimates predict the fundraising total to be between $6500 and $7000 generated in net proceeds that will be donated to The McGuire Memorial Foundation from the motorcycle ride fundraiser. That is by far the best year for The Run For McGuire . Prior to the start of the ride, a special opening ceremony was held with a Blessing of the Bikes by Father Michael Greb from McGuire Memorial, and local dignitaries including State Representatives Aaron Bernstine and Jim Marshall, Beaver Falls Police Chief John DeLuca, and Beaver Falls motorcycle patrolman and Police Escort, Jim Siget. Lead Bike instructors Brad Bailey and Richard Kosten then addressed the crowd gathered in front of WBVP-WMBA on 7th Avenue in Beaver Falls with particular points and notes of safety and caution for the ride. Texas Road House In Monaca rewarded the generous ride participants with a superb picnic buffet. The Ride made a stop at McGuire Memorial along the way to visit some of God s Entrusted Treasures before heading back out for the second half of the ride and eventually arriving by thundering through the tunnel entrance to Big Rock Park In New Brighton around 1:45 P.M. for a picnic celebration featuring food from Texas Road House in Monaca, Beverages from Fischer s New Brighton Foodland and Bottled water courtesy of Sam Spanos from Raymond James Financial in Beaver. After enjoying lunch, several Chinese Auction prize winners were selected and announced. This was the fourth year that Beaver County Radio, WBVP and WMBA organized and sponsored the Run For McGuire . Each year the event has grown, almost doubling the amount of money raised in each of the past two years. Plans are already underway to stage the ride again next year on the first Sunday In August. Volant Fire Company Poker Run The quiet town of Volant, Pa. Came alive with a roar from a different source. About 100 steel horses ascended on to the Volant Volunteer Fire Company for their 12th Annual Poker Run. This is a great fundraiser for the small community fire department getting a lot of great people out to help, go for a nice country ride and return for some great food.
